Scoutcast Episode 367 – Double Gameweek attention turns to Leeds and Saints

Joe and Seb are joined by David to look at the key issues facing Fantasy Premier League managers ahead of Double Gameweek 25.

As part of a flurry of Double Gameweeks, Leeds and Southampton take their turn to play twice in the upcoming set of fixtures.

As well as playing each other, the Yorkshire outfit take on Wolverhampton Wanderers, while the south coast side face Chelsea’s resolute defence.

With the more favourable of the fixtures, Leeds assets take top billing. As a fan of the club, Seb takes our trio on a deep dive into Marcelo Bielsa’s tactics, favoured line-up and team strengths, ahead of these important Gameweek 25 matches for Fantasy Premier League managers. This discussion includes David’s analysis on why one particular Leeds player is so key to their chances of goals and clean sheets.

Danny Ings (£8.4m) looks to be the main target for the Scoutcast crew among Saints options, especially with his lethal finishing. He could also be a shrewd long-term investment should his side gain further double Gameweeks over the next month.

Elsewhere, Joe wonders which well-owned players could be surplus to requirements in the clamour for Double Gameweek stars. Could Liverpool and Manchester United’s penalty takers be jettisoned? Or is a certain Aston Villa talisman the man to make way?

Our trio give an update on their mixed fortunes in Double Gameweek 24 so far and reveal their transfer and captaincy plans for the week ahead.

Meanwhile, next four fixtures are frisked as the short-term gain of Double Gameweeks is assessed alongside the longer-term points potential of planning ahead, for the single and Blank Gameweeks to come.

    Adams, Watkins, Bamford

    Use wildcard?

    Or

    Save and use 30/31?

Grealish has blanked 4 times in the last 9 weeks... here’s the teams he blanked against:

    Chelsea
    City
    Arsenal
    Brighton

4 teams with some of the best defensive stats in the league...

Good fixture run for Villa is coming so expect him to start firing again and punish sellers

He could punish sellers as he's clearly a brilliant player....but having watched the last few games, he's clearly out of form (maybe playing 90mins every game is catching up with him) and he's getting targeted by other teams who double up on him. Watkins is better value for me

Agree with you on Jack. He looked especially poor in the Brighton game. Villa look to be a team whose season is catching up on them.....for that reason I don't fancy Watkins as an option either. Martinez is the only Villa asset worth owning currently imo

Like look of this team on WC

Bb26 (also have FH for 29)

    Martinez McCarthy

    Dallas AWB Stones Cancelo Lowton

    Kane Ings Bamford

Nice, although missing Villa players they have a really good DGW. I would think Grealish instead of Maddison maybe ? Or konsa instead of Lowton.

Lots of focus on which 3 Leeds players to get as it everyone has the FTs, the relevant strategy or assuming they are worth hits? I love the depth of the Leeds insight, but the Scoutcast was lacking a bit of oversight imo.

Personally not planning to own any Leeds this week, which may of course hurt in the very short term (one gameweek). Although, I could also get more points, both this week and in subsequent weeks, from buying Kane instead of Bamford, for example. Likewise, by investing in defenders from teams who are liekly to have higher chance of clean sheets across the next 4 or 5. Spending a FT on Dallas now might mean taking a hit, or missing out on another player, down the line. Etc, etc...

I appreciate it's not possible to cover everything, especially with such variation in chip strategies, but as a general rule, I'd find more value of comparing players to players without restricting the analyses almost entirely to [within team X], since I try to avoid biases from coverage-thinking and would like to contextualise the stats and opinions. On the other hand, perhaps other people find analyses in a bubble to be useful. I just think there are interesting and important questions to be asked, while 'which players from Leeds should I be owning?', isn't the most helpful unless you have WCs every week, and even then, isn't so high on the list, for me.

Still, the Scoutcast is useful for getting access to some of the stats and keeping up to date, so I did listen to the whole thing, and appreciate the effort. Cheers (no one will read this anyway 😀 )

If you're going low on Leeds assets now I'm assuming you're playing WC/FH in 29?

      1. Deulofail
        • 8 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

Well, I have none right now. So I couldn't get 3 without a hit, and then I'm ignoring the benefit of players who have other doubles. So, the path of least resistance is probably to FH in 29, yeah.

Agree, I'd love Raphina this week but it would mean spending an FT & selling a player I want for future game week, all of whom I couldn't afford to buy back without selling other player I want to keep.

I get what what you’re saying but this all depends on your current situation, if I had no Leeds players like you I definitely wouldn’t try and get 3 but at least one, however, some like me already own Bamford and Dallas so it’s easier for us to consider the third.

Yeah, and half the Scoutcast was aimed specifically at you and your kind! 😀 While even for you, buying a non-DGW player this week might be a better option than a third Leeds.

Werner, Alonso, Rudiger to be all the rage then?

They have serious fixtures from GW30 - might be no harm in dabbling earlier, particularly if you have a FH still in hand to deal w/BGW29

    1. Dasher0303
      • 7 Years

If Werner catches proper form I would get him in a heartbeat he gets a lot of chances

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus

        3 years, 2 months ago

Yeah to be fair to him he does have the ability to go & get 15 attacking returns in the last 10-or-so games if he was to tighten up his finishing

Very interesting option at around 9.0

Having a plan to get him for Leeds GW28 mightn't be a bad thing depending on how he looks in the next few

    2. Skymonkey

Werner is not the best option with a MUN and LIV double GW coming up. Kane is better tho its an extra 2 and he has way better fixtures

        • 14 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

Pre-GW28 looks too early from a pure fixtures perspective, but for teams with Son, Werner may be an acceptable alternative to Kane

With southampton's form they could concede any amount of goals on saturday though, should be interesting to observe

He's definitely gone onto the watchlist anyways

    Wildcard this?

    Martinez Forster
    Stones Dias Tarkowski Digne Coufal
    Salah Son Bruno Gundo! Grealish
    Antonio! DCL! Wilson!

Got all chips in hand, 1 FT, several injuries and no Leeds or Southampton assets.

    Thoughts?

I would just do Wilson to Bamford and coufal to Dallas and you can’t still play a 451 or even a 541, or if DCL is fit then 442

Probably give him the armband if I go for him. Trouble is SOU form isn't great. Neither are their fixtures really. Literally just playing the odds and punting on the amount of fixtures coming up on a injury prone player. Might be talking myself out of it as I type. Thanks.

For those considering Brighton defenders on a wildcard, remember that Lamptey is an outside option despite his red flag. He could return from injury this weekend and is 0.3m cheaper than Dunk. Only thing putting me off a punt is that I'm bench boosting 26 and wasting the FT on getting rid of him again would be annoying if Veltman holds the rwb place.

    Man City fixtures:
    We'd 24th Feb 8pm Borussia Monchengladbach
    Sat 27th Feb 12.30pm West Ham(1st game DGW26)
    Tues/wed 2nd/3rd march (2nd game DGW26)
Sat 6th March 3pm Manchester United.

That's 4 games in 11 days (with probably the two most important games not the DGW fixtures).I'm just trying to point out how impossible it's going to be to find Man City players playing 60 mins twice in DGW26.

Would go a but also thinking of dropping Fernandes in gw 26 or 27 to dead end my team in 29 as Salah has the better fixtures

Is it worth using my 1FT to get Raphina in for Soucek if I am just going to remove him GW26. Should I do it or save FT and have 2FT next week?

        It’s a move I’m considering

Don’t forget he still has 3 games in 2 game weeks which is exactly the same as all other players so I’m judging my moves off the 3 games not just on 26 so saving a transfer doesn’t really buy you anymore games from your players

        DG26?

    Current team:

    Martinez Forster
    Stones Dias Tarkowski Digne Coufal
    Salah Son Bruno Gundo! Grealish
    Antonio! DCL! Wilson!

Got all chips in hand, 1 FT, several injuries and no Leeds or Southampton assets.

    Which strategy is best?

    A. Wildcard now, exploit lee and sou and bb/tc in 26
    B. Bamford and Dallas for Coufal and Wilson -4 and TC in 26 (already have 10-11 dgw'ers in 26)
    C. Something else

A, and make sure to have at least 13 DGWers for BB. I'm doing the same though I'm taking a -4 hit in GW 26 by transferring Raphinha and Ings out for Watkins and Grealish

I'm in a similar position Gundo, Antonio, DCL and Lamptey and have hit WC.

I'm still not going all in on GW25 however, as Leeds won't have a DGW26.

        Martinez, McCarthy
        Dias, Stones, Shaw, Strujik, 4.5m
Salah, Bruno, Grealish, Gundo (or Foden), Jorginho
Kane, Ings, Bamford (will switch to Wadkins for GW26)

Contemplating one of these two moves for a -4, I already own Bamford and Dallas
    Grealish > Raphinha
    Lowton > Ayling
    Thoughts?

shouldn't do the Grealish one as Villa has a decent DGW and might have more DGW in GW 27, 28, and also most likely have a fixture in BGW 29 with the spurs. Hold him. either that or you'll be using another transfer to get Raphinha out

Cheers was more towards ayling anyways, villa have 3 fixtures to be scheduled so wasn’t as keen on taking grealish out anyways

    Pope, Johnstone
    Cancelo, Stones, Coufal, Digne, Lowton
    Salah, Bruno, Son, Soucek, Raphinha
    Richarlison, Bamford, Antonio

    1FT £0.9m ITB
What to do with this team?

Get a third Leeds with the transfer one of the defenders, they have a double this week and play in the blank in gw29

Get rid of West Ham players. You could do Soucek to Gundo if he's fit against ARS and he has a DGW 26. In the GW 26 deadline, you could bring out Antonio for Watkins. Antonio doesn't have DGW 26 and faces Man city that week
