Bamford, Raphinha and Dallas all deliver as Leeds beat Southampton

Leeds 3-0 Southampton

  • Goals: Patrick Bamford (£6.9m), Stuart Dallas (£5.0m), Raphinha (£5.4m)
  • Assists: Tyler Roberts (£4.6m), Hélder Costa x2 (£5.0m)
  • Bonus points: Dallas x3, Illan Meslier x2 (£4.7m), Raphinha x1

WHAM BAM

Patrick Bamford (£6.9m) finally delivered the Double Gameweek goods as he netted in Leeds’ meeting with Southampton.

After watching a second-half effort ruled out for offside against Wolves, the mid-priced forward notably adjusted his run to convert on Tuesday night.

Tyler Roberts (£4.6m) put him through the middle of Southampton’s defence for a routine finish, his 13th goal of the season and his 21st attacking return.

Backed by 1.6 Fantasy Premier League managers for the Double Gameweek 26 captaincy, Bamford has now produced a goal or assist in five of his last six home league matches. That bodes well for further returns considering three of Leeds’ next five Premier League fixtures are at Elland Road.

As per usual, the size of Bamford’s latest score could have been bigger. His best chance outside the second-half goal came in the third minute when he powered through the middle and, when he probably should have unleashed an effort from just inside the Southampton box, he laid off to Roberts who could not reach the pass.

Meanwhile, Bamford even contributed at the other end of the field in the second half, turning a Jannik Vestergaard (£4.7m) header over the crossbar in the 64th minute.

RAPH TRADE

Just as was the case at Wolves on Friday night, Raphinha (£5.4m) was exceptionally unlucky not to come away with another massive haul, although like Bamford, he did, at least find the net.

Despite being one of Leeds’ best players against Southampton, the Brazilian winger was denied both goals and assists with frustrating regularity for his 9.7% ownership.

In the 24th minute, Raphinha found some space behind Ryan Bertrand (£5.0m) with a mazy run and could have gone down for a penalty but squared for an unmarked, onrushing Roberts who skied a big chance.

Then, 14 minutes later, the Leeds wide-man was played through on goal in a gilt-edged one-on-one with Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) only for Oriol Romeu (£4.5m) to sprint back with all the endeavour of a Bamford captainer to put in arguably one of the best tackles of the season to deny him.

There were two more glaring misses from Raphinha passes in the second half that would have hugely frustrated his backers.

Roberts fired wide again in the 50th minute before Diego Llorente (£4.4m) forced an impressive save out of McCarthy but should have scored himself.

It was in the closing stages that Raphinha finally got his due, rifling home a free-kick from range after a foul on Hélder Costa (£5.0m).

Line-up Lessons

Stuart Dallas (£5.0m) returned to central midfield against Southampton although only after another enforced change for Bielsa.

The Northern Ireland international started the game at left-back once again, the Leeds’ cause helped by Llorente making only his third appearance since joining in the summer.

“(Llorente starting is) necessary in this moment and we hope he can show the qualities that brought him here.” – Marcelo Bielsa

However, Dallas still found his way to central midfield thanks to an injury to Mateusz Klich (£5.2m) in the second half.

With Pascal Struijk (£3.9m) occupying the Kalvin Phillips (£4.9m) in defensive midfield, Ezgjan Alioski (£4.4m) was the nearest replacement with Dallas able to step forward.

Like Raphinha, he was also unlucky not to get an even bigger haul. It was Dallas who played Bamford for that chance he tried to move onto Roberts before the forward missed another Dallas key pass in the 52nd minute, forcing a good save from McCarthy.

Still, that shift forward allowed Dallas to get involved the goals all the same, toe-poking an edge-of-the-box strike beyond McCarthy after a Costa cross in the 78th minute.

Leeds United XI (4-1-4-1): Meslier; Dallas, Cooper, Llorente, Ayling; Struijk; Harrison (Costa 46′), Roberts (Hernandez 75′), Klich (Alioski 59′), Raphinha; Bamford.

Southampton XI (4-2-2-2): A McCarthy; Bertrand, Vestergaard, Salisu, Bednarek; Tella (Minamino 58′), Romeu (Djenepo 70′), Ward-Prowse, Armstrong; Redmond (Ings 58′), Adams.

    Dallas to Dias
    Or
    Lowton to stones

Have FH, is Dias nailed? Better to keep Dallas if he's gonna play in midfield?

Have you considered Ederson for nailed City? Or are you already on him. Same ceiling really as the other 2 if you take the Stones haul as random defender points

Yes, but ederson is just out of budget as my second keeper currently is Sanchez and going ahead there'd be a major headache between benching ederson & Martinez

Nothing subtle or humble about it, just came to share my best score this year 110 points with only Fabianski blanking and no chips used.

Guess it makes up for the shite GW's.

Guys judging from last night's performance from Leeds, I would like to bb this gw, but need your suggestions though.

    Martinez martin
    Dias cancelo digne Dallas lowton
    Salah son bruno gundo raph
    Dcl bam antonio

    2ft

    Two questions guys,

    1) should I bb with 3 Leeds Lowton areola and 11 other dgw players
    2)
    A) Antonio son martin to Kane barnes areola -4
    B) Antonio salah Martin to Kane Barnes Ariela -4(no fh so 29 saves me from an extra transfer of son of opt this option)
    C) Antonio raph Martin to Watkins Barnes areola -4

    TIA.

    Already committed to a -12.

Now also really want a better GK to bench boost with than McCarthy.

Martinez a no brainer given potential DGW28? Already own Areola so covered for 29.

    Case for DCL (TC) !!
    -------------------------------
    - Tied Top goal scorer out of all fpl forwards (13)

    - Good form. 2 goals 2 assists in last 3 pl games

    - 2 great fixtures (SOT wba)

Infact Soton and West brom are bottom two sides in current form table (last 6 gws)

Both has conceded most goals in that period too with Soton conceding 19 and West brom 12.

    - Richarlison Digne and James all fit. So got the creative trio behind him

    - Keep in mind DCL grabbed a hatty last time he faced westbrom this season . Digne playing OOP wingback further increases his potential

All these factors conclude that DCL is a great shout for TC this gw.

    Agree? Thoughts are welcomed.

Agree he is a great option. It just their inconsistency and instability in injuries. James got injured and the whole game is changing. He is too coming back from injury.
I really like the fixtures though - SOU with no Romeu probably too.

Honestly all factors leads towards a good haul. not to forget Everton will be buzzing after beating arch rivals after long time.

If it fails just be it. There was good logic behind the decision regardless of the outcome

The return fixtures against Burnley and Fulham produced a grand total of 2 goals for Spurs. They were quite good then

I brought him in because of price drops, and because of fixtures. I am not likely to captain him, however, with that honour either going to Sterling or Bruno. Citeh in Europe tonight, Utd tomorrow, there's loads of time to pick an arm.

              or

              B) a -4 to get KWP to Aina / Rudiger and BB 12 DGW players with
Dallas, Raph, Bamford all on bench ?

I could go either way here.
              What do you think ?

B imho. Then again you can still play the waiting game if you like. I feel like I would be glad to play the BB this week. Biggest double in fpl history and a decent game for Leeds even though I think Martinez will give them a tough time. Then you can really get the best out of the second wc not having to use money for say a second keeper.

Actually I think I've just answered myself too below.

Two real options for me. Help choose, would you?

              A) Raph+Ings -> Barnes+DCL -4 for a solid 11 (no chips)

              B) Steer+Ings+Antonio->Lloris+DCL+Watkins -8 (BB with Marty and Leeds trio)

As it is, neither options gets me Kane, B leaves me without Lei but gains me practically a free keeper this week, who also has 29. Watkins troubles me but can't afford a better option.

Some very tight calls here.....but as you said Leeds playing a non Grealish Villa is a decent fixture and very good option for BB. Whilst maintaining 3 players that play in GW29

Im in a very similar position ... see my post above.

Leeds beat Villa 3-0 in the reverse fixture... so im very tempted to activate BB with 3 Leeds on the bench

He doesn’t. He’s a decoy for Barnes and Maddison. Simoly look at Vardys output since GW 15

I have gone Kane and no Leicester. Don't know how they will perform with possibly Maddison out. Vardy himself has not looked that sharp. Plus Arsenal, Burnley, Brighton look good on the fixture tracker but they really aren't.

All very good points. Vardy hasn’t had a haul since GW 14, highest has been 6 points and he’s a decoy for Barnes and Maddison now I feel and yes if Maddison is out Barnes and Vardys output may be greatly affected. Also yes Arsenal and Burnley aren’t walk overs

I know that Grealish might not play one or even both DGW fixtures but the two fixtures are quite promising for the Villa attacking-wise. Not to forget they still have the likes of Barkley, McGinn, Traore in the attack.

Hence I am still considering bringing in Ollie Watkins. Thoughts?

I would say Wattkins is a good call, but recently Aston Villa is not convincing me at all, especially from the attacking point of view. Would need to check precisely but I think that in the last couple GWs they have the worst attacking stats in the league. If the double GW was a month or two ago fhat would be a no brainer for me but now I'm not so optimistic for Wattkins.

Do you think KDB will even make both games in the double GW? To be honest I'm not sure. It would be 4 games in 2 weeks for a player returning from injury. But on ghe other hand Pep rarely rests KDB.
