What impact will FA Cup quarter-final results have on the FPL schedule?

Manchester City and Southampton have booked their places in the FA Cup semi-finals to help add some clarity to the upcoming Blank and Double Gameweek situation.

The two sides won their respective quarter-finals on Saturday against Everton and Bournemouth, respectively; results which could potentially benefit owners of Spurs assets.

The next stage of the cup competition occurs during the same weekend as Gameweek 32 of Fantasy Premier League, although it will be considerably less affected than Blank Gameweek 29.

Semi-finalists Southampton are scheduled to host Crystal Palace on the weekend of Saturday, April 17 although this match has not yet been officially postponed.

That is because there is a free midweek slot between Gameweeks 32 and 33 which could play host to the Saints and Eagles’ Premier League clash.

Of the two sides, Crystal Palace are more likely to face a Blank Gameweek in that round, considering Southampton have an outstanding fixture against Spurs still to be rearranged, which could come into the equation.

That match could go into the aforementioned midweek slot and, if it does, that would see Roy Hodgson’s men miss out on playing in Gameweek 32, considering Southampton’s FA Cup commitments.

Meanwhile, with Manchester City barring Everton’s participation in the FA Cup semi-finals, the Toffees’ already scheduled Gameweek 32 match against Spurs can continue as planned.

Therefore, if Gameweek 32’s midweek slot is used to accommodate Southampton’s trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Harry Kane (£11.5m) and his colleagues would play twice in that round.

That said, such a scenario is only one potential permutation that cannot be confirmed until further match dates are announced by the Premier League.

Manchester City’s progression in the FA Cup is likely to interfere with the timing of their Gameweek 32 trip to Aston Villa.

Like Southampton’s situation, a midweek clear of Champions League action between this round and Gameweek 33 means the Citizens could travel to Villa Park on Tuesday, April 20 or Wednesday, April 21.

Manchester City remain without a fixture in Blank Gameweek 33 because of their participation in the EFL Cup final.

Their opponents Spurs will also miss out on a Premier League match that round, as well as Fulham and Sheffield United.

The Blades travel to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon to compete for a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Leicester City and Manchester United meet in the final match of the quarter-finals on Sunday evening.

Current Gameweek 32 fixtures

  • Arsenal v Fulham
  • Aston Villa v Manchester City

  • Everton v Tottenham Hotspur
  • Leeds United v Liverpool
  • Leicester City v West Bromwich Albion
  • Manchester United v Burnley

Thought I would repost as there's more here now but where do we rank these mid range mids for the run home?
    A) Gundo (+ plays on the best side, cheap - expected heavy rotation)
    B) Barnes/Madd (+ Great fixtures, on a good side with things to play for club/country. - Returning from injury, people who own Vardy may not want to double up)
    C) Neto ( + Great fixtures, plays OOP some weeks. - Not much to play for, plays on a low scoring side)
    D) Lingard ( + great form, lots to play for club/country. - Mixed fixtures, may not want to double up with Antonio)
    E) Jota (+ Cheap way in to the L'Pool side, should start most weeks, still differential, good fixtures soon. - Pool been shaky all season, will he be rotated for Europe?)
    F (Other)
    Interested to hear your thoughts!

Their all great. Timing which one is in your team will be the deciding factor.
The only one I don’t like on that list is Neto. Wolves don’t score enough.
I’ll be WCing. I’ll start with Saka and Raphinia and plan to move them between Your above players depending on fixtures and form.

I agree with this, it is hard to decide which, may end up being a fixtures or form question when it comes down to it. I agree also with Neto, it's a shame Jiminez will be out for the forseeable future still but good to see he is stepping up his recovery, if Wolves score it seems Neto is around the goals and will pick up BP's for his involvement but they are almost to far between. Upcoming fixtures look great though if they can Willian Jose scoring so Neto can assist someone

Will most likely add Saka/Odegaard to the list after the matches today. Saka is going under the radar imo though and now his price is looking good at only 5.3 and with good fixtures he's one to look out for, same as Odegaard. One must wonder with Saka is he is at that price point where you're not sure if he'll be your 4th or 5th mid, throw in European rotation as well but will certainly keep an eye out

Don think he is under the radar at all, if hadn’t been an injury doubt would have been the go to asset ahead of Auba

Considering him for WC but with the high range options such as Cresswell, Azpi I guess even Digne and TAA at a stretch all being a reliable source for 90 minutes and possible returns themselves would hate to see an Alonso 0 staring at me from the bench, in saying that he doesn't mind a 14 point return so its a gamble which like you said would require a good sub

Seen about three different organisations of the Chelsea lineup today.

The proper tweet has it like this.

    https://twitter.com/ChelseaFC/status/1373621525333618695?s=19

Which could mean CHO is RB...

Previously a graphic had Emerson in the LCB position, but that's weird when Chilwell is also on the pitch as like with Atletico, Emerson played higher up. Could rally be him at RB lol

My conundrum also, Barnes looking good now he's cheaper and only owned by 4% but something is telling me to own Vardy instead. Maybe because I was one of the unlucky ones that brought in Barnes the week of the double when he got injured and feel I won't have any luck with him this year, could still change though

Bamford is a valid captain option in 30.

Maybe but I don’t want triple Leeds after 30. Bamford fitness pushes me to Raphinia.
        Vardy a longer term pick.

          Fair dos

But the Leeds fixture turn isn't that long all in all. Would lose Dallas first simply because there are so many options at the back.

Just not sure it's worth going two weeks early on Vardy. He's been 3rd/4th best in that attack for consistent returns. I'd wait on Barnes. Should be back around when fixture turn starts.

Yeh you might be right about Vardy. He could be Bamford.
Raphinia could be Jota after 30.

It's tricky with both Raph and Bamford with all the rotation about and tricky to find nailed mids - not an easy call at all.

Still think both are worth it in 30 mind.

I nearly benched Lingard but ended up on Watkins - just thought Lingard was safer to play given everyone was getting him. Confused about why you would ever bench Antonio though..that means you played 4 atb, and this was not a week to play 4 defenders IMO.

Trossard isn't the only one that could score in the game though. I understand having insurance in some spots and if it was a close decision between Antonio and Lascelles (ie. their expected points weren't that much different) then I could understand it. But when Antonio is so much better, it's not worth spreading the risk. Just go with your decision and hope it works out! congrats on the trossard captain punt though.

There's a reason common advice is "never bench an attacker over a defender" - ofc, there's some exceptions when all your defenders have 45%+ chance of a CS and your attackers have a bad fixture, but Newcastle had really low odds of a CS (20%) and their defenders were expected to score no more than 2.5 points on avg if you look at models. Meanwhile, Antonio is expected 3.9 points (4 is often very typical and average for a good attacker in an avg fixture)

Who to sell for Fernandes out of Salah and Aubameyang? Ideally I would sell Salah and look to get back against Leeds so I can have Aubameyang for the Sheff Utd game but there's a chance he doesn't play which would be terrible.

Salah still top scorer in the Prem...

Auba been pretty poor (or not starting) all season long. Seems an easy decision to me...

But, having said that, have you considered Jota (+ a shed load of cash) instead

      1. F_Ivanovic

That's why the plan would be to get Salah back because I much prefer him over Aubameyang generally - it's just that Sheffield United fixture that is wanting me to keep him. I'll probably look to get Jota in but not in place of Salah unless I want KDB (which I can't see given all of City's rotation)

I am wildcarding in 31 and my initial plan is to switch Salah and Auba with free transfers targeting the fixtures, avoid transferring defenders and cheap attackers. Sure, dgwks will affect that plan. For 31 it will be either Auba or KDB as mid big hitter and then transfer to Salah.

I guess United will use the Sancho money to get him unless they start lowballing again. City could get him too, although they are eying Haaland. With those funds, I could see Spurs sacking Mourinho and start rebuilding with new manager.

Thats right. Arsenal main threat is from left side. Tierney always play higher up.......... If ESR play there its not easy for opponent. Auba is tougher and harder to defend tough.
