The best Neto replacements and whether FPL managers should stick with Fernandes

Sitting not far outside of the top 1k heading into the final seven Gameweeks of the season, Let’s Talk FPL’s Andy looks at a number of burning questions facing FPL managers.

Chelsea’s Defence

I think the case of Chelsea’s defence is a good example of not letting outcomes change your future decisions.

With a run of fixtures starting with West Brom and Crystal Palace, a lot of us were keen on the Blues’ backline, and rightly so: only Manchester City had conceded fewer expected goals (xG) over the season.

Set on using BB this week as trying to have a fully playing bench has hurt my WC slightly:

    Mendy
    Dias Rudiger Shaw Phillips
    Salah Bruno Son Lingard Jota
    Kane Nacho

    (Forster, Phillips, Fofana, Vydra)

With 0.0 ITB, can you see any uses for 1FT?

My team is almost the same as yours. But I wouldn't BB with Forster, at least not this week. Maybe hold on to it?

Problem is, if for example someone like TAA becomes essential, I'd want to change one of my bench for trash to help free up funds, which then devalues my BB.

Anyone reckon Liverpool's form is about to jump off a cliff? Ramadan for both Salah and Mane, not sure if the impact of that on key players has ever been looked at in previous seasons but it's an extremely tough time for footballers to manage with no water or food during daylight hours.

As far as I know they've always observed it and I don't think it's effected them too badly?

I know Salah was fasting before the Spurs champions league final and the 2018 world cup so takes it pretty seriously.

Believe they all do - just wondering if this has ever affected their underlying stats. Can’t imagine them sprinting as much in games...!

Not sure Mane is particularly relevant to Liverpool's form diving - solid argument that it would improve without him featuring.

I think we all know that, against Villa when he refused to pass to Jota at the end shows he’s low on confidence and making bad decisions...

It’s not stopped them before so I’m not sure why it would now?

Mane is woefully out of form, so maybe some religious centring might bring him back round.

What I mean is I’ve not seen anything to suggest whether it has impacted their form. Salah’s been explosive in previous seasons of course but no idea if that slowed down during Ramadan. Would be interesting to see impact.

GW37 most likely, GW35 as part of a possible 8 team DGW if GW36 and GW37 fixtures are switched to accommodate fans at each ground before the end of the season.

Interesting point about Bruno there from Andy about being a non-captain choice here on in. One possible wrinkle is that he has a chance of a DGW in 35 hypothetically - that doesn't apply to either of the other two.

    1. pingissimus
      • 5 Years
      3 years, 11 days ago

Another perhaps more serious point is that from 35 on Kane isn't much of a captain choice either ahead of Mo - he and Bruno have extremely similar fixtures then on and it's a bit of a coin toss which you lose if you are fixture driven.

      1. Andy_Social
        • 11 Years
        3 years, 11 days ago

imo you can't think that far ahead in this situation. There's a (smalll) chance Mou could finish the season with crowd-pleasing football to attempt to save his job, in which case Kane would fill his golden boots.

Yes, for all of them probably. Grealish may not play again this season but worth holding a little while longer to make sure. I'd get Pererira in for Trossard if I could

Saka for Pulisic looks the best move as Chelsea stand today, though Chelsea have a reasonably tough run in, what with Pulisic being a favourite of TT and finally finding some of his form, coupled with last season he had an explosive finish at the end of last season.
Grealish is difficult, but I'd hold him until the next but of news. Trossard and Pereira are basically the same type of player.

If Sterling plays he is a huge differential.
All the others are playing team fighting for survival

Kun to anyone, even Brewster would be a better option than Kun

What are the chances of Sterling starting?

He was rested in CL (bar the final few mins)

How essential is Son this week? Given he has a blank the week after I'm not sure he is. With this in mind what is the best move?

    A: Bruno to Son
    B: DCL to Nacho

If you already have Kane and bring in Son, you'll have two big holes for the blank next week. Whilst Bruno himself has two nice fixtures coming up. So Bruno -> Son not a good idea. Go with B.

I’m likely to be without son, he’d be straight out next week and transfers wasted.

Pray he gets limited minutes against Southampton for the final and for coming back from injury.
