Pope returns for Burnley after two-game absence

Having been sidelined for the past two gameweeks with a shoulder injury, Nick Pope (£5.5m) takes up his rightful position between the Burnley posts in Blank Gameweek 33.

Matej Vydra (£4.8m) is also back in the Clarets XI, having been sacrificed for the trip to Manchester United last weekend as Sean Dyche opted for an extra body in midfield.

The budget forward does have extra competition for that spot partnering Chris Wood (£6.3m), however, with Ashley Barnes (£6.0m) fit enough to take a place on the bench alongside Jay Rodriguez (£5.7m).

Josh Brownhill (£4.9m), who played in a more advanced role against Man Utd, moves to right midfield as Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£5.4m) drops to the bench.

For Wolves, Ruben Neves (£5.1m) makes a slightly surprising return to action after Nuno revealed that the midfielder was still isolating on Friday.

Neves replaces his compatriot Joao Moutinho (£5.1m), who is absent from the Wolves squad.

“Ruben [Neves] was in isolation, he tested on Friday and had the clearance on the afternoon. Unfortunately, Joao [Moutinho] had a small injury and he cannot be in the game.” – Nuno Espirito Santo

Conor Coady (£5.0m) plays alongside Romain Saiss (£5.0m) and Willy Boly (£5.4m) in a familiar back-three system for Wolves.

Tipped in FFScout’s weekly ‘Spot the Differential’ article ahead of Blank Gameweek 33, Daniel Podence (£5.3m) will operate as part of Nuno’s front three alongside Willian José (£6.8m) and Adama Traoré (£6.1m).

Wolves XI: Patricio; Saiss, Coady, Boly; Ait-Nouri, Dendoncker, Neves, Semedo; Podence, Willian Jose, A Traore.

Burnley XI: Pope; Taylor, Mee, Tarkowski, Lowton; McNeil, Westwood, Cork, Brownhill; Wood, Vydra.

Why? For as cheap as you can get, you cant expect premium returns. He's a great 8th attacker, bench player. Arsenal as a whole are rubbish lately, not necessarily sakas fault

        He hasn't returned since GW24

Forget "premium returns" FPL wise he's just been dreadful.

What a sad thing to say. When you look at the value per season he's in top 10 for midfielders I think. If you jumped on the bandwagon after trashing of Chelsea, you had the perfect 4th MID for month and a half. After that you just have to be flexible FPL manager, change players and move on.

Now he's burned out and was flagged almost every week. There were minor injuries and he's been playing through pain at times. Bukayo is also 3rd for played minutes behind Leno and Xhaka. You can't expect miracles with this team but he came close to scoring pretty much every game. So you have to consider different factors: fatique, injuries, "luck", great saves by goalkeepers, wasted chances by him and which he created for others, VAR decisions and of course Arsenal as a whole massively underperforming.

Nevertheless, there's still 5 games left in which I believe he could still shine.

I think this will be a prime 'bad for FPL, but a lot of goals' match.

Probably end 2-2 and yet no one will move up or down FPL ranks from it

Dyche has built a fairly good squad for what money he has been allowed to spend. He has pretty much two players for every position in his 4-4-2 formation. Interesting to see what happens to them as they are still in a relegation fight.

      GK: Pope, Peacock-Farrell
      LB: Taylor, Pieters
      RB: Lowton, Bardsley
      CB: Tarkowski, Mee, Dunne, Long
      CM: Cork, Westwood, Brownhill, Stephens
      RM: Gudmundsson, ?????
      LM: McNeil, Brady
      FW: Wood, Barnes, Vydra, Rodriguez

        +1

Only thing I didn't like about ESL was the format re: promotion/relegation and the additional number of games for players

I feel the ideal scenario would be:

        1. Champions League (Knockout)
        For only domestic season winners

        2. ESL (One fixture against every club at neutral venue)
Top 3-4 clubs from major leagues (say 5 leagues) - 20 clubs in total, 5 teams relegated every season and a new team from every league based on position in domestic league

        3. Domestic League

        4. Domestic Cup

        Remove all other domestic cups

        1. R.C
          • 6 Years

          (5-6 leagues*)

          promotion for a new team*

        2. pingissimus
          • 5 Years
          2 years, 11 months ago

          Ultimately incoherent

There is nothing to say that the bottom 5 clubs in the ESL will be divided equally between your chosen 5 leagues. It could well happen that two seasons go by and no PL team is relegated and that would mean that the the race for the ESL spot would be for the 6th or 7th team in the PL. Is that team going to add more interest and quality than a champion club from a lesser nation? Rather doubt it myself.

Worse the team that finished 6th or 7th in the PL and missed out on ESL might finish still finish ahead of a team that concentrated on ESL. This is the slow death of domestic football - teams prioritising a league other than their domestic league.

Whichever way you slice it a system that preserves "elite" status without reference to performance in domestic football will create imbalances and situations where teams that perform best in domestic football are not rewarded and vice versa.

If something like this appears the only way it can work is if there's absolutely zero guarantee of elite football without reference to domestic performance. If Manchester United or Liverpool finish 5th in the PL then they miss out on ESL the next season. Too bad.

Neutral venues? Absolutely no. No no no no no. Football is for the fans and this is precisely not for the fans.

It never ceases to amaze me how much value is put on DGW players. I was in a chat earlier about DCL. He has a dgw in 3 weeks time and people are holding him until then when a woeful Everton, creating no chances apart from Richa to mess up. I think of times I have held onto such players apart from just getting the bloody obvious. Guess DCL's dgw. 2 4 2 2 2 (smile)

        I think that’s a fair point.

I am one of those players that goes all in on DGW not necessarily because it’s the always the best move, but because I play FPL for fun and want to have as many players to cheer on as possible.

That is my excuse for why I will never win it!
