      UEFA's own game ;
      You'll notice I avoided group F and that my bench are starting Gameweek 1, there's some pretty flexi subbing allowed, so first draft ;

      Lindner
      Alba, Meunier, Dumphries, Bonnucci
Alaba, Chiesa, Tielemans, Van De Beek
      Immobile (c), Trossard

      De Gea, Cancelo, F.Torres, Depay

The winner of FPL this year has 1 top 100k finish and no top 10k finishes in the past 12 years, which changed this year. Being close to winning takes alot of luck, but coming top 10k relatively consistently takes skill.

While luck plays somewhat of a role, you can’t downplay the level of skill behind a winning FPL season.

For example, I haven’t had too many top 100k finishes but I managed to get just within top 3k this season. I still have about 15 decisions I made wrong since the beginning of the season, and I always noticed the opportunity cost of loosing points in those situations. The higher the finishing quadrant, the lesser the margin for error.

In my opinion the higher the finishing quadrant, the more luck you need. If there are millions of players there will always be someone who will make those 15 decisions right. Or even 100 decisions. Just a big numbers rule.

The winner played a blinder and made a smart calculated risk with Mane (c) for gw 38. When you look at how good a smart dead team can do, it shows we all have a chance, just need to do a good job of our captain picks and avoid too many hits.

Commitment and playing safe is all it takes not really a skill

Winning FPL requires a different approach to finishing well. Most years it requires a step up in risk taking and a large dose of luck to pull it off. Playing the same way that will get you a top 10k or even higher finish is very unlikely to win it.

It might be worth starting with a slightly higher risk/reward strategy to start with to try and secure that better start. The flip side of taking that risk is that without the luck element you leave yourself open to a (potentially much) poorer finish than usual.

I think winning it takes a special skill. When you haven't got a great start or don't have anything to play for money-wise, I can see lots of very good managers paying less attention to it. Does that make them worse managers or just ones that don't have motivation?

And yet once they do get that really strong start and start playing seriously, they can keep up and even get ahead with some research. Because let's face it, FPL isn't as much skill as we think it is nor can you change your team radically week on week.

I think a lot of top players tend to surge late on when a lot of folks have lost interest. That, and they also overthink things a lot. I think someone who isn't worried about protecting their rank for their twitter profile probably plays with a level of freedom others don't.

I'm a total noob in fantasy Euro 2020, who are must haves in this game? Best value picks? I came up with a team, any glaring mistakes? Did I forget about someone?

    Lloris
    Meunier - Denayer - Florenzi - Ake
    Chiesa - Torres - Bale
    Lukaku c - Depay - Immobile

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Have a good bench, have players play on different days so you can switch out when players blank

Portugal? You need 3 of them in game 1
You avoid them on day 2/3

Tactics seem to be build a team entirely for GW1, then used wildcard and limitless gw2 and 3 then unlimited transfers for round of 16. Have captain options as many days as possible, you can change it each day but only one player will get double points so if someone does well make sure you don’t change it. You can sub players on too between game days, as soon as someone is off they get 0 though. So a strong bench is important and have players playing on the last gamedays in your bench.

With regards to picking a team, as it’s only for one game week, look at Clean sheet odds etc. For the defence, as well as knowing which team are likely to play wing backs (same as fpl these are likely to score big). Try and get midfielders who are likely to play on the wing or up top I.e. F Torres. Then have at least 3 premium option on different gamedays I.e. kane, lukaku etc. As your main captain options.

      Good luck.

Exactly this. Thus a bench for the last day should be as strong if not stronger than fielded 11. And Portugal happen to play Hungary.

Just don't stick your captaincy on Ronaldo on first day. Terrible move tactically.

I wouldn't have a GK from a 'Group of Death' team personally. I think Donnarumma or Courtois are better picks to start with at least.

There's a possibility that Castagne could start ahead of Meunier. They've played an equal number of international games in 20/21.

Marcel Sabitzer could be a good budget pick.

    Feeling quietly confident.

Unlike FF, a superstrong bench is paramount here. Thus:

    Hradecky.
    Kjaer. Bednarek(Cap4?). Meunier. Spinazzola. Florenzi(Cap1)
    Alaba. Sudakov. KdB.
    Lukaku(Cap2). Arnie(Cap3).

    Subs: Patricio. Negro. Fernandez. Ronaldo(Cap5)

Been looking at the euro cup match venues...

The following teams play all 3 of their group stage matches at home.

      Italy
      Denmark
      England
      Netherlands
      Spain

These teams play 2 of their group stage matches at home:

      Russia
      Scotland
      Hungary

So I’m loading up on players from those who play 3 matches at home.

      Any concerns here:

      Depay morata arnautovic
      Eriksen Torres Alaba mount
      Florenzi coufal bonucci
      Donarumma

      Schmeichel Robertson Alba kimmich

Still tinkering...looks a lot different to other drafts I’ve put together and the ones I’ve seen on here.

Don't like Kimmich, Alaba or Alba.

Kimmich is a defensive mid. Alaba could end up playing in defence.
Gaya could start at left back for Spain ahead of Alba.

Kimmich is more a defender. I'd leave the German mids at mo. But if someone held a gun to my head I'd def opt for Goretzka.
