So FPL are saying they’ll add 0.5m to the English players if they win the final tonight?

No, he'll get more game time than last season but Bamford is still first choice.
Def worth watching how his minutes go though, I've had him in at least two of my drafts!

He was brought in as an upgrade to Bamford, then a month or two later it was to find a way for them to play together, and by the end of the season Bamford looked knackered and Raph was grabbing the headlines.
So no one really knows. I rate him highly on the eye-test, if he gets minutes I'll buy him, but Bamford is the one I've got in just now

Entering every game as top dog instead of motivation from being the underdog. Completely different situation for the team at the start this time.

They finished the season so strong, just when I thought they would start to tail off. This team just keep going.

I think Bielsa will keep them fit and motivated.

I don't think so personally, provided they keep Phillips and Raphinha. Bielsa did talk about an evolution, so they might tighten up in the big games, but otherwise I reckon it's the same Leeds. They're a quality side, the real deal imo.

I expect them to be more resillient than the Blades were. Much more dependant upon players quality than the system.

When Bielsa goes they would possibly be at risk of imploding

But as long as he’s there they’re the golden tickets for FPL imo, they have an attack just bristling with goals

12 scored in their final 4 games despite the fatigue issues that would creep in from time to time after Christmas

Don't really have a draft yet, but my program is telling me Harrison is slightly better value than Raphinha. So on paper, I agree with you, but the eye test tilts it Raphinha's way for me personally... When the numbers are close-ish, I go with the eye.

I think he ended up managing two starts in Leeds last 19 games (GW37 & GW38)

And he was taken off at half time again in the second of those starts

He definitely has a bit of class - and got the 4G 1A in the last four appearances… but when you look at his game by game history it just screams “not physically capable”

Maybe it was just bad luck & he gets fit this year, but he’s not getting any younger either

I'll be wanting to monitor the left wing - I can see Firpo taking a few chances off Harrison.
The manner of Leeds' pressing is not something that can be 'found out' - they'll be great to watch again this season.
I'm definitely starting with Raphinha and quite possibly Bamford. For the rest I'll assess over the opening fixtures, but I'm looking to bring in one (or more if I drop Bamford) of Meslier, Firpo, Ayling, Llorente and/or Harrison

Think I'm gonna go with 8 outfield England players, plus Donnaruma, Chiesa and Immobile/Florenzi/Chiellini.

Was planning to swinging the other way, but I think England defenders are little stronger than the Italian, in fantasy terms, which gives me at least 4 set players for England, inscluding Sterling, versus 1 for Italy (Chiesa), while the rest is more of a crapshoot.

Not that many, Salah and TAA probably. I'm highly likely to go with Toney at 6 mil. I can't see a better option as 5th than Gilmour ermerging before start of season and if any evidence Forfana is nailed he is a no brainer too. If Greal stays at Villa I'll defo have him.

Yeah, toney at 6 is appealing, better than the 6.5 in the main game. Also like havertz at 8, grealish at 7.5, agree on gilmour at 4.5 too. Sancho at 9 is defo tempting me in!

Havertz could be good but just doesn't feel nailed yet and if he does start likely to be subbed off before the 90 and miss out on the extra point in fanteam. I like Raphina, shame he isn't as cheap as FPL but even at 7.5 he could be very good.

If Grealish stays, I'll probably double with him and Watkins.

I like the flexibility someone like Grealish would bring. After the first 3 games you can then transition him to a wide array of potential options like Foden, Gundogan, Greenwood, Jota, Pepe, Barnes, Torres, Saka etc, depending on who looks nailed and good value. Got on my eye on Foden/Gundo especially...

I might be alone here, but I really hope the impossible happens and Gareth benches Kane. He's looking as leggy as he was in the final two matches of the WC, which really hampered the attack. He's done his job. Time to freshen up and bring him on for pens of to shore up the game and start counter attacks when we're already on top.

His through ball to Saka for England's equaliser was critical to England beating Denmark. They might have been tough to break down sitting on a 1-0 lead had he not found that ball. Kane is worth having on the field for his passing alone.

Unavailable in my country. But Kane isn't exclusive in having passing ability. And what he gives in passing ability, someone else can give in passing ability plus other traits and tactical advantages. I excpect to see him hanging offside at critical points of tonight's game, without the legs or motivation to jump back onside again. Lacks the dynamism or agility of Grealish, Foden, Sancho, DCL. Not that I'm arguing that DCL should necessarily start. Besides, Grealish was critical to getting both goals against Germany, but apparently that's not a reason to start him, while 2 through ball from Kane is strong enough evidence? All those players above can turn and pass.

It's all opinion at the end of the day, but I personally feel what Kane offers as an overall package is unique, and cannot be replaced by any other player. He's an extraordinary player imo.

With regards to Grealish, Gareth prioritises defence, and I don't think he fully trusts Grealish in that department, not as much as Saka, Mount or Sterling, who are all fantastic defensively.

Grealish is the perfect guy to bring off the bench when you need a goal. He's a risk taker, he makes things happen, but he also loses the ball sometimes, so he's a weapon to utilised at the right time. He could be a key player tonight, but I think he's best used from the bench.

          Just my opinion anyway....

I get that. I'm not saying that he should be dropped due to his lack of quality, but his lack of stamina, which reduces his quality and pace. Just my opinion, of course. This is an opinion.

Crazy team, I know, but Italy's midfield three make them tick, so time to match up with them and use Saka as the extra man who can drop into midfield to outnumber them.

      Pickford
      Walker Stones Maguire Saka
      Phillips Rice Henderson
      Mount Kane Sterling

Why not use Shaw in the role he's already doing? Many think he's been the best LB in the tournament, and he already drops into midfield (or drives forward in midfield) when required as well. Which is something that I'm sure Saka could do, but hasn't been tested in that role except pre-season games. His LB role has been about adding width/overlapping Martinelli or whoever. Even Arteta used Xhaka and Cedric for that role before Saka, even though they have competent replacements for the right-forward role.

Concentrated a lot on one thing there haha.

When the opposition play with only one striker, he does.

But if the opposition are leaving two strikers up the field, then he'll stay back to make a back three and keep it 3v2 for counter attacks and help build from the back.

I think it's the same fluid role he plays for City. Such an important player...

His performance against Ukraine and Denmark was really good. He has spoken a lot about peaking in the finald and it really looks like he has. Says he was too tired in Russia because of the excertion beating Panama 5-0

Yeah it's just that my eyes tell me he's peaked already. So it would be better to select a specific circumstace under which to utilise him. I think when England are winning is the best time. Making the opponent work and countering with his passing. Plus it's nearer to the shootout if it goes that far.

Seeing as finals are always tight matches….I’m surprised no one is including Jorginho in their squads….purely because he’s on pens. Wouldn’t you want to have both teams main pen taker?

I know he’s unlikely to produce any points outside of a pen but he’ll be sure to play the full match.

This may be a stupid question (it definitely is..) but how do the substitutions work for EURO Fantasy tonight? If I pick Saka and he doesn't play or come on, does my first sub drop in, or is the bench tonight purely for show?

The former, but you'll have lineups so really it'll be the latter unless you have t lock and load it early!

First sub will come in but we get the lineups before deadline, so bench is useless unless you won't be around when lineups are released.

    Afternoon all,

I'm in the final of an auction type game and have ended up with what looks the weaker team:-

    Me:
    Donnarumma
    Di Lorenzo Stones Maguire Emerson
    Sterling Chiesa Grealish Harrison Pessina
    Calvert-Lewin

    Him:
    Pickford
    Walker Bonucci Chiellini Shaw
    Verratti, Barella Insigne Saka
    Immobile, Kane(C)

Who would you recommend captaining to have the best chance?

    A) Italian defender and hope for a c/s and lettle attacking output from either team
    B) Sterling and hope he outscores Kane, Immobile, Insigne, etc.
    C) Chiesa
    D) Someone else

I'm favouring A with a punt on Emerson

Cheers and good luck tonight whoever you support.

Out of curiosity are there stats available for the Championship?

One set of stats I'd be interested in seeing would be for Bamford. He had a poor conversion rate last season but not out of sight terrible - was wondering if simply matched what he did in the Champo or was an improvement. Could he be one of those players who is a comparative late developer?

A clinical Bamford would be fantastic.

Understat is v good for XG - seems better than the Opta XG model at least (which caps every open play shot at 0.25 - e.g. Lingard’s open goal vs Leciester)

For Championship seasons - infogol - put them together to get this:

      19/20 - 18 attacking returns from 28 XGi
      20/21 - 28 attacking returns from 23 XGi

      https://understat.com/player/822

Ty Max - will have an explore.

Largely thanks to you I moved on from Opta XG - not that I was much of a believer anyway. Not sure how better it is as a metric but now veering towards big chances as my lead stat for finishing form/ability.

I was likely to captain Sterling anyway. With wingbacks all but confirmed, my gut is telling me to captain Shaw or Trippier, but then maybe Sterling is still the better option as you say 🙂

Chasing 17 points, against a rival that had 6 England players to 3 Italy last round (and I can't see that balance going more than 50/50 of each).

Given lack of high-scoring differentials, I've got to go maximum Italian defence, haven't I?
