I have had even three in some of my drafts. Usually two. I think I will have at least one. Bruno and Sancho are attacking options and Shaw, Henderson and even AWB (if Shaw has issues) are not out of the question. (I can see AWB giving simple pass to Sancho and if Sancho is good, he may get through defenders and score.)

It's their COVID and preseason situation putting me off, not the players themselves.

      I like the Compare-3-players tool.
Following my rank live is 'meh', but following my squad live would be great; rather than compare with the world or one other player, could it be done for a mini-league. Currently I use Ragabolly's LiveFPL for that, so I know FFS had the know-how.

I am liking this setup so far. Have just downgraded TAA to Robbo to free up 0.5.

Upgrade second keeper, 4.0 def or ESR?

    Sanchez – 4.0
    Robbo – Coufal – White – Ayling - Omo
    Bruno – Salah – Son – ESR/Townsend - Brownhill
    Watkins - Toney – Nacho/Wilson

      No on Dele at first.

VVD and Dias over TAA and Robbo is a dumb move because the fullbacks bomb forward and have more goal and assist potential. Unless you want to count on the odd goal from corners. I went with VVD GW1 last season and was rewarded with a goal even though Norwich scored but you could always split the difference and go VVD and Trent, or Dias and Trent, or whatever.

Would have to be certain Alli starts. Many a player tears up pre-season only to disappear come GW1.
In defence, you get a lot for the extra outlay.

I’m starting to knee jerk to go without a liverpool defender.
Do we know when Henderson and/or Fabinho will be back?
VVD and Gomez surely need a couple to get going leaving Konate and Matip who don’t have the experience together.
Mix that in with no Wijnaldum running box to box and possibly either none or one of Fabinho and Henderson to start the season.
I’m starting to feel no clean sheets in the first 4 GW’s

If you are starting to knee jerk already, my advice is to get Trent, set, and forget. I think you have talked yourself into believing that they won't get clean sheets in the first 4 GW's but VVD alone with set them up. Watched highlights of Konate at Leipzig and he seems like a solid backup for VVD... similarly physical presence, together they could become so solid. I imagine Klopp will start off by pairing Gomez/Matip/Konate in rotation with VVD but you know Trent will play every game so might be worth it to bring him in...

Not worth it to downgrade Jota and Toney within 2 GW's ... think longer term. If you really want Kane, you may have to sacrifice in defense for one of Shaw/TAA or in Ihenacho.

Do you think Sarr could be a good option over the first 6 GW's?

Is Jorginho worth bringing in for PK's as a differential when many will be steering clear of Chelsea?

What about Saka? Are people avoiding due to fixtures against Chelsea and City? He could still play and be another solid differential.

Which 2 would you go with for GW 1-7, say?

A report here on Watford, suggesting they are currently disorganised, put me off Sarr or any other Hornet.
Jorginho only scores from penalties. I think post-Euros refereeing and VAR will be more restrained and we won't see a silly number of penalties in the new season. So, he's not worth playing, imo.
Saka is a good differential. There's just a question of rotation - with Pepe in his FPL most dangerous position. At the same price, Raphinha and Buendia are nailed and thus, preferable for me. For 0.5 less, Harrison is also the best 6.0 for me.

        1. Andy_Social
          • 11 Years
          2 years, 8 months ago

A balance of both. Let's say, Norwich have one point but they've played very well. If their fixtures improve, form suggests results will. Villa won their first 3 games but unimpressively - with fixtures changing for the worse, I'd hop off.
Leeds have 5 points from 4 games which included United and Liverpool - I'd have 3 on my WC. and so on.

    2. Holmes
      • 10 Years

We don't have any idea of form at this stage, so fixtures and reliable player is all we can target initially. After 3-4 GWs, we can move toward form players.

    RMT

    Bachman
    Digne - Shaw - Robbo - Trent
    Salah - Bruno - Raph - Sarr
    Watkins - Antonio

    Foster - White - 4.5 - 4.0 (0.5 ITB)

I'm thinking to go big in the back to start. Get some great value set and forget defenders with some nice fixtures and focus any transfers into the midfield or forward line early on. Don't like booking in any early transfers and leaving some extra cash ITB to allow for some flexibility.

I like. The more i play the more I cant help thinking there's better value in midfield and defence.

the only point id make I assume this means you'll have a 4.5 forward and 4.0 defender - neither are likely to play. Given the world at the moment not having a bench might come back to bite you.

    2. Eze Really?

Cant see Dias being great value tbf - even with a massive 17 cleansheets last season he still struggled to break 140

He needs more attacking returns to justify 6.0 for me (2.0 XGi is just not encouraging at all)

Also with Laporte, Stones & Ake fit - I can definitely see Pep rotating Dias, particularly for the “easier”/lower risk games (i.e. home bankers)

Dias and Man City had a fantastic season and got 140. Robertson and Liverpool had a 'bad' season and he got 160.

Doubt Liverpool are going to perform any better than their "bad" season. 20pts difference isnt much, just 0.53ppg, not worth extra 1m. (doubt anyone would keep them for whole season anyway)

    3. Vlekz
        2 years, 8 months ago

I don't think it's as straight forward as that. Going the robbo route means I need to play some other midfielder too and for havertz a defender.
So it probably comes down to choosing between

        A) Robbo + sarr/esr
        B) ayling/white/lamprey + havertz

I don't think there is a massive gap there if havertz is chelseas striker and Brighton / white provide excellent value at 4.5

      Now then,

This is very much basd around Kane being a city player...... thoughts:

      Sanchez (Steele)
      Shaw - Coufal - Fofana - (Ayling) - (Holding)
Salah - Bruno - JWP - Smith Rowe - (Bissouma)
      Kane - Watkins - Toney

Will likely switch between 343 and 433 depending on fixtures. Gives decent captaincy options.
not sold on Smith Rowe and Holding, any suggestions?

TAA is on a goal, 5 assists & 6 cleansheets from his last 12 starts

With his ownership & his fixtures, going without involves huge risk

If you’re ok with that risk, then you’re ok

Its a good point, TAA is class, i'm assuming that's the last 12 games of last season? On that basis we should have chelsea defence treble up.

Its just hard to break up the salah, bruno, Kane trio - and I'm unlikely to find 2.5m in the others......

I am basing it on his entire body of work.

For most of last season the team were out of sorts and he was a big part of that. Some of that was injuries to the team, some of that was players out of position and some if it was covid. He looked leggy for months following covid.

Then the last 12 games happened. Liverpool stopped losing players to injury, settled on a team, played players in their normal position and best of all, trent found his legs again.

I have no access to members area so this is the eye test from a season of games. If you do have access check his heatmaps. It may just be 12 games but this guy did that kind of work for 2 to 3 seasons before that. You must factor that into your thinking. Tuchel has only been there 12 games. That's where your comparison falls flat. If you have other reasons for leaving trent out, fair enough, but if it's because 12 games is not enough evidence, I think you need to find a better reason. When a world class player loses form for a few months and then gets it back, it would be silly to assume it's a flash in the pan. There is an anomaly here and it's not the last 12 games.

TAA isn’t subject to the same rotational risks as Chelsea defenders though - players aren’t going to get you points if they’re not on the pitch for 60 minutes etc

TAA got 1 goal 3 assists and 4 cleans sheets from his first 22 stars last season.

With his ownership and very poor fixtures in 3 and 4 going without represents a great opportunity at his inflated price 🙂

Wow. If ever there was an argument for the way stats mislead us this is it. Luckily for me I watch games and I have a much better handle on my team and players. Trent was the first name I picked. Let's see whose opportunity pans out.

Planning for the exception rather than the rule is very risky though

His first two thirds of the season - he missed GW9, 10 & 11 with a calf injury

After his return in GW12 he farted out another flurry of points from GW14-20 (a goal, 2 assists & 3 cleansheets in 7 games)

We know what TAA does, we know his ownership, we know his fixtures, we know the risks

As I said above - if you’re ok with those risks, then you’re ok 😉

Was thinking mother of clean sheets really and not attacking returns - the last 12 matches are the exception there. Clean sheet record over the last 18 months is poor enough early. VVD? They were leaky with him between March or so 2020 to beginning of last season.

Have him of course just laughing at the selectivity of your stats. United on your rationale will be outscored by plenty of teams including Arsenal WH and Spurs and be matched by Newcastle.

                See below

You’re basically hoping for the defensive & offensive bad luck he had GW1-13 to continue (he was grand from GW14 onwards, and obviously the 80 or so gameweeks before that!)

Risky, risky business to be advocating going without imo

But everyone has a different risk appetite tbf - just do it with eyes wide open 😉

                  Reading skills lapse there Max.

Teasing you about your characteristic selective statting to prove the point you want to make. Now I'm just trying to work out the likely United GI next season on the basis of the last 13 gameweeks - just 20 goals scored.

Read again and you'll see I have him but I"m sceptical about cs.

Brevity is important though - what’s a better representation of TAA as a player - the last 12 gameweeks, GW14-38, GW1-22, the last 3 seasons, his whole PL career, some other range?

We can’t include every single game, so in making a point about the risks of going without - one of those samples above is most appropriate…

You could definitely use inappropriate samples, depending on the point you’re trying to make - but it just looks a bit silly with a player like TAA 🙂

Same as what’s a better representation of Man Utd’s attack - full season? Last 10 gameweeks? Last 5 gameweeks? First 15 gameweeks? Since Bruno joined? Last 5 seasons? Last 10 seasons? Etc etc

It’s not a case of just randomly pulling samples out of your arse - they need to be appropriate/quality - the less influenced by “non-normal” factors ideally the better 🙂

Plus even in that GW1-25 sample - he had the highest XGi for defenders in the game(5.41) bar Cancelo (who was 0.08 more) but unluckily underperformed it by 1.42

He also very unluckily missed 2 cleansheets through injury (Leciester & Wolves) and narrowly missed out on another bunch of cleansheets during liverpools utterly ridiculous run conceding a single goal each to Fulham, West Brom, Burnley, Brighton, southampton… normally that’s at least another 1, if not 2,3,4 cleansheets to throw into his satchel…

Hoping for TAA to be unbelievably unlucky again is definitely a plan, it’s just a risky one and not one I’d advise personally!

(Especially when combined with his ownership & fixtures)

IMO 3 premium captain picks hurts the rest of the side. Make a choice of 2 I think. Kane ready week 2 or 3 so you will have time to work on it.

Looking at average clean sheets I can say 11 of them is middle of the road. The other extremes are 17 one end and 6 the other so there is a 20 point variation over the season. That is an average of 5 attacking returns. It seems the 5 mil wing backs in average sides are as likely to score similar to the 6 mil premium centre backs. TAA and Robbo are a different level but generally the remainder is "you pay for what you get". All the draft sides will change at the back when the wing back gems come to the surface.

Minor, but i think Hoever is the best of the 4.0 defenders at the moment.

I’m a little worried about Cresswell being nailed. This noise of Zouma to WH makes me assume we’re getting a mew CB - wouldn’t surprise me to see Cresswell rotates/rested through Europe. He’s old.

Otherwise I like the team, looks fun. Good balance of upside too.

Cheers, Hoever sounds a good shout, if he makes the XI by GW4 he's fantastic.

On Cresswell, so are you saying that in a back5, Masuaku will be first choice as LWB? If Zouma signs and Moyes plays a back 5, couldn't Cresswell play as the LWB over Masuaku?

On his age, yeah I guess thats a fair shot, but early season before Europe I think he's fine, at least before my first WC.

Would you say Coufal a better pick as 0.5 shorter?

            • 3 Years

I think Coufal would be a lower rest risk than Cress.
Masuaka, plus 3-4 CBs (Diop, Ogbonna, Dawson, Zouma* for example) - all could play In Cresswell’s role.

Think you might be right though for the start of the season - and WC solves all.
If you need the extra 0.5 Coufal seems a good pick still - but Cress is certainly a good option.

My stats tables don't work on the beta, the table will open but then immediately go back to the previous page as soon as you try to navigate on it. Also display is very poor in terms of layout. On android, on mobile.

Same problem for public stats tables. Navigation generally seems very clunky on mobile around the new site. For example, the players section of rate my team wont allow me to scroll down or to the right, given the way it displays in mobile i can only see names, club and position so can't see any of the actual predicted scores for players.

The navigation menu on the left keeps sticking after scrolling down - wont let me scroll back up so have to refresh the page.

Comparison pages look gokd although not sure if newer members will understand the abbreviations. I also liked that overall % and key scores when doing quick player comparisons which seem to have gone now.

Formatting generally needs some work for mobile users i would say as it's quite difficult to see the info without scrolling around a lot. Heat maps for example dont shrink to fit the screen display and some other simple bits and pieces like that.

Running android 10 btw if it helps.
