The best strikers for Sky Fantasy Football before Overhaul

Fantasy Football Scout are bringing you even more content on Sky Sports Fantasy Football this season.

Having made our way through the best goalkeepers, defenders and midfielders, we now set our sights on the strikers to target before the post-Gameweek 3 Overhaul.

SIGN UP TO SKY SPORTS FANTASY FOOTBALL HERE

Don’t forget to check out our team reveals below from two elite Sky managers, Luke Williams and Niall Murphy, who also provide some general tips on how to play the game.

BEST FORWARDS FOR SKY

Mohamed Salah (£11.9m) is currently the most-selected forward in the game at over 41%. That is no surprise given Liverpool’s fixture list, with the Egyptian a stand-out captaincy option against Norwich (a) and Burnley (H) in the first two Gameweeks. Salah is also a man of the match candidate in any fixture he plays and a prolific accumulator of shot bonus; while all those missed chances might be infuriating in FPL, there is at least the compensation of the shots on target bonus in Sky.

Diogo Jota‘s (£9.4m) impressive per 90 stats and likelihood of starting in Gameweek 1 at the very least make him an intriguing differential option to the Egyptian, meanwhile.

Harry Kane (£12.0m) is some distance behind Salah, sitting in 29% of teams. The rumours over his future persist and there are suggestions he could miss Gameweek 1 anyway due to international exertions, so perhaps he’s more one for the Overhaul in the international break or at least an early-season transfer to ponder for Wolves and Watford. Only Kane (six) hit tier 2 shots bonus more often than Salah (five) last season.

The uncertainty around Kane could lead those who want a Spurs attacker to simply go for Son Heung-min (£10.8m), save a transfer and revisit the striker situation in the Overhaul period. The Korean is currently owned by just 11.9% of managers, with his aversion to bonus points – just 16 in 2020/21 – a possible reason for that. But 17 goals and 10 assists, plus a strong pre-season and a possible ‘out of position’ tag, have put him well into the premium bracket this season.

The midfielders to target before the Sky fantasy football overhaul

Ollie Watkins‘ (£9.2m) ownership is dwindling, despite a kind run of three games for Aston Villa. A pre-season injury and the Villans’ move for Danny Ings (£9.1m) has dented his appeal, with the ex-Southampton striker perhaps now the more attractive proposition. Ings hit double figures for tier 1 shooting bonus last season but struggled to convert those to tier 2, although the extra creativity behind him at his new club could boost those totals.

New man Ivan Toney (£7.9m) is just behind Watkins in ownership terms. The Brentford forward is set to be one of the top armband options for Arsenal’s visit on Matchday 1 of Gameweek 1, a single captaincy day. Given that the unremarkable names of Jordan Ayew (£7.9m) and Michy Batshuayi (£7.7m) are at this price point, Toney’s starting cost does seem a bit of a steal given his talismanic status and fondness for a shot.

Pre-season concerns around a number of pre-season Fantasy strikers could also see Michail Antonio (£8.8m) up his ownership figure of 9.6%. West Ham welcome Leicester to the London Stadium in a single-fixture day on the Monday of Gameweek 2, while Antonio could also be the most-captained player on Matchday 3 of Gameweek 1 when the Hammers play Newcastle. He also presents a Gameweek 3 armband option at home to Crystal Palace.

The Magpies’ penalty-taker Callum Wilson (£8.7m) could be an interesting mid-price option. Wilson managed 12 goals and five assists in 23 starts over the previous campaign and while bonus points didn’t flow too often, Newcastle turned to a more attacking style towards the end of last season – something that could up his shot bonus potential.

Kelechi Iheanacho‘s (£9.1m) prospects of starting in Gameweek 1 grow dimmer by the day so for those of us who love their ‘nailed’ forwards, Patrick Bamford (£9.5m) warrants more than a mention.

Last season’s third highest-scoring forward, the Leeds man started 37 of the Whites’ 38 league games (only being benched on the final day).

He was third only to Kane and Salah for shots on target among Sky strikers in the Premier League last season.

Pick a best combination out of these:

    A) Sanchez, Coufal, Mahrez , 4.5 striker
    B) Meslier, Dias, Gundogan/Jota , 4.5 striker
    C) Sanchez, Dias, Raphinha, Ings

Feel like I'm pretty happy finally.

    Meslier (Sanchez)
    TAA Maguire Tsimikas (White Amartey)
    Salah Raphinha Havertz Mahrez Barnes
    Wilson Ings (Obafemi)

Only question is Havertz. I have 1.5itb for a move for him to Son (since Lukaku is on the way). I can wait until GW2 for this but if I do it for GW1, it means I can get Lukaku in for GW3 (Mahrez to ESR / Mbeumo, Ings to Lukaku) if I'm lucky enough to not have other issues to deal with. I feel like in spite of their fixtures he could hit the ground running and he has a good debut record. That being said Ings still has a good fixture GW3 and I only wanted him for the first 3 so maybe I shouldn't rush. More than anything I think I'm waiting to see whether he's going to have to quarantine or not. Planning a early WC to fit in Kane if he moves and then likely sort out Amartey and Tsimikas.

    Thoughts on team and strategy?

    Sanchez
    TAA Shaw Digne Tsimikas
    Salah Son Mahrez Greenwood
    Ings Antonio

Subs: Foster, Ayling, Gilmour, Obafemi (1.0itb)

My main move for gw4 is to transfer Mahrez & Ings for Auba (c) and Raphinha/Sarr. Will have 1 FT rolled over and use the other transfer to cover injuries or to upgrade Gilmour/Obafemi to a viable playing low price alternative (Tella, Origi etc)

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray has been speaking about Adam Armstrong's impending move to Southampton in a deal reported to be worth up to £15m.

"Adam’s been in this morning basically saying his goodbyes to everybody. There’s not too much preventing the deal going through now," he said.

Armstrong is set to have a medical tomorrow and will be a replacement for Danny Ings, who joined Aston Villa last week.

Blackburn are keen on signing Southampton's 21-year-old Republic of Ireland forward Michael Obafemi on a permanent deal

Might need a cheap enabler forward...

Does the imminent arrival of Lukaku destroy, hamper or improve Havertz’s prospects?

    1. Hazz
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

      2 years, 7 months ago

Lukaku & Mount will be more sure starters, which leaves Havertz & Wener (and Ziyech to a degree) fighting for one position is we continue with a 343.

With Lukuku it's funny. He tend to drift a bit towards the right up to, which compliments Havertz as he likes to come in from the right and get central. As we already know, Werner likes to spend a time down the left, so naturally it compliments Lukaku too.

In a way, all three could compliment each other very well.

But Mount just doesn't get dropped, so even I'm unsure what will be opted for. (Although Mount hasn't had much pre-season, though he's as fit as anyone.)

I can see us moving to a 4231 at points to use all of them, but for the start of the season really am not sure.

Anyway GW1 sounds like it's gonna be without some first teamers so reckon Havertz fairly likely to start that. Afterwards, who knows.

For me I'd say hamper, in that we don't actually know now how Chelsea will line up. Havertz as a false 9 each week could have been fantasy gold. That said you'd expect/hope Chelsea's attacking output should increase as a result so could be a good thing later down the line once we have better information.

I'd avoid Chelsea attacking assets from the start though outside of a 1 week punt.

Yep I’m leaning that way too. Havertz was a wait and see for me and this only makes that more so the case.

What do we think United's GW1 & GW2 forward line-ups are going to be?

The XI on show in the first half at a Everton put in a great shift, so a fair part of me thinks that'll be the starting XI:

    Martial
    James Bruno Greenwood

Ole has already said he hopes Sancho will be involved, so that could be a cameo off the bench for either Martial/James/Greenwood (if Martial were to come off, Greenwood up top for a bit.)

But GW2 when Sancho is possibly ready, what then? Sancho LW or RW? And what about Cavani's return?

Understand they could have Sancho on the left & Greenwood right, but feels a tiny bit odd when both Martial & James can play there.

Just slightly concerned about Greenwood minutes after GW1. Can see him being a bit of a super sub this season.

    1. Ask Yourself
      • 7 Years

Greenwood was the man to play 90 in that last friendly, I’m guessing Ole sees him as the last one to take out of the attack based on that

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

On the flipside, give him the full 90 since he'll be subbed next match.

Less about GW1 though. More-so beyond that.

Ok, really struggling to decide between two teams/templates:

    A)
    Sanchez - (4.0)
    TAA - Shaw - White - (Ayling) - (4.0)
    Salah - Bruno - Barnes - Sarr - (4.5)
    Ings - Bamford - Wilson

    B)
    Sanchez - (4.0)
    TAA - Shaw - Digne - (White) - (4.0)
    Salah - Son - Grealish - Sarr - (4.5)
    Ings - Bamford - Wilson

    TL;DR
    Fernandes / Ayling / Barnes
    or
    Son / Grealish / Digne
