FPL Gameweek 4 round-up: Saturday goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) bagged a double-digit haul on his second Manchester United debut as the Portuguese veteran’s 2.2 million owners were rewarded for their investment on Saturday.

No player has racked up more FPL points than the United number seven in Gameweek 7 so far, although Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m) went stride for stride with his fellow premium forward and matched that 13-point tally.

The Red Devils’ 4-1 thrashing of Newcastle United was one of eight Premier League matches that took place on a busy Saturday, the main talking points of which we’ll discuss in this our first Gameweek 4 round-up.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of the day’s games but in the meantime, our resurrected Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, PROJECTED BONUS

KEY FPL TALKING POINTS

  • Deprived of the services of Son Heung-min (£10.1m) and Steven Bergwijn (£6.0m) and lining up in a diamond formation, Tottenham Hotspur managed only two shots in the whole of their clash with Crystal Palace (none in the first half) and have the worst expected goals tally (0.09) in Gameweek 4 so far. The Eagles, by contrast, topped Saturday’s xG table with 3.00.
  • Odsonne Edouard (£6.5m) scored twice on his debut and Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m) seemingly consolidated his position as Palace’s first-choice penalty taker, stepping up to take the Eagles’ spot-kick with Luka Milivojevic (£5.4m) on the field. Of just as much interest from an FPL perspective was the performance of budget midfielder Conor Gallagher (£5.5m,), who delivered two attacking returns for the second Gameweek in a row. On free-kicks and corners, he was involved in nine of the 18 shots that Palace had.
  • Mason Greenwood (£7.7m), Paul Pogba (£7.7m) and Bruno Fernandes (£12.5m) are all set to be tied on 31 points in FPL if the bonus points are delivered as expected. No midfielder has more this season.
  • Shane Duffy (£4.2m) is now the joint-best ‘value’ player in the game, returning 5.2 points per million spent. He was part of a Brighton defence that kept their second shut-out in four matches in a 1-0 win over Brentford.
  • Last season’s best two backlines, Manchester City and Chelsea, are now joint-top along with Spurs for clean sheets this season (three each) despite the pair being in the bottom half of our Season Ticker over the opening four Gameweeks. Chelsea struggled from set plays against a lively Aston Villa, however, and they’ve now allowed 17 chances from dead-ball situations to be conceded over the last two Gameweeks.
  • Pep Guardiola named an unchanged starting XI for the third successive match, the first time he has ever done that at City. It’s safe to assume that more changes will be in the offing once the Champions League starts in midweek and indeed Thomas Tuchel’s tinkering has already begun in earnest, with the benched Mason Mount (£7.5m) and Andreas Christensen (£5.0m) two of six changes that the Chelsea manager made.
  • Dean Smith paired Danny Ings (£8.0m) and Ollie Watkins (£7.3m) in the same side for the first time, turning to a 3-5-2 to accommodate both strikers. Watkins was heavily involved and registered three times as many touches of the ball than his strike partner, who was hooked midway through the second half. Watkins also had six shots to Ings’ one.
  • Marcal‘s (£4.5m) two attacking returns in Wolves’ 2-0 win over Watford were his first ever in FPL. The left-back banked two assists despite not creating a single chance in Opta’s eyes: a Marcal cross was first turned into his own net by Francisco Sierralta (£4.4m), before the Portuguese defender’s blocked shot was converted by debutant substitute Hee-Chang Hwang (£5.5m). Marcal and fellow wing-back Nelson Semedo (£4.9m) had three of the six big chances that Wolves created.
  • Arsenal have had 52 attempts on goal in their two meetings with non-big six sides this season. Thirty of those came in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Norwich City.

INJURIES AND BANS

FPL Gameweek 4 round-up: Saturday goals, assists, bonus and injuries 7

Michail Antonio (£8.0m) and Japhet Tanganga (£4.5m) will both miss Gameweek 5 through suspension after being sent off for two bookable offences on Saturday.

On suspension tightrope watch, meanwhile, Paul Pogba (£7.7m) has reached three yellow cards after just four Gameweeks. Another two bookings before United have played a total of 19 league matches and he’ll be suspended for one game.

Brighton’s win came at a cost, with Adam Webster (£4.5m) limping off with a hamstring problem – something that may aid Shane Duffy‘s (£4.2m) chances of staying in this Albion side, however.

The Seagulls were also without Pascal Gross (£6.0m) and Enock Mwepu (£5.9m), who were both self-isolating.

“I need to see but he said [Webster] felt something there but we will see how bad that is. Enock was pinged from a flight and Pascal is just self-isolating.” – Graham Potter

Edinson Cavani (£8.4m) missed Manchester United’s win over Newcastle with a knock that isn’t expected to keep him out for long, while Rob Holding (£4.3m) was absent from Arsenal’s win over Norwich with a bruised knee.

Son Heung-min (£10.1m) and Steven Bergwijn (£6.0m) were absent from Spurs’ defeat at Crystal Palace, while Eric Dier (£4.6m) was forced off after just 11 minutes of the loss at Selhurst Park.

Nuno Espirito Santo was, as ever, a bit thin on details after the game:

“I don’t know. [Son] doesn’t look well. Stevie, let’s wait and see this week. Hopefully, they will improve and be available for the next game, let’s see.

“Let’s wait and see [on Dier].” – Nuno Espirito Santo

Among the more notable returnees on Saturday were Jonny Evans (£5.4m) and Jannik Vestergaard (£4.9m), who shared 90 minutes of game-time between them.

Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m) and Phil Foden (£7.9m) were unused substitutes for Manchester City.

Callum Wilson (£7.4m), missing with a thigh injury, will be “touch and go” to feature in Gameweek 5, meanwhile.

FPL OWNERSHIP AND CAPTAINCY – TOP 10K

Ronaldo’s ownership shot up from nought to 65% in the top 10k over the last fortnight and he was the most-captained player among these leading managers, with just over half handing him the armband.

Ronaldo and Lukaku were the only players in the above ‘most popular’ list to bank double-digit hauls so far but the Belgian is a veritable differential by comparison.

While almost 99% of the leading FPL managers had to stomach Antonio’s red card, over 7% endured the double ignominy of captaining him.

There was a big spike in Wildcard usage in Gameweek 4, with over 17% of the top 10k deploying the chip.

The Brighton goalkeeper double-up, bargain-bin defenders and ‘out of position’ mid-price midfielders are features of the template squad, with over 85% also opting for Ronaldo.

Yeah I was tempted to do Tsimikas Benrahma >> Marcal Jota but I played it safe as still games to play and now I’m priced out by 0.1… so if I went that route I’d have to settle for someone like White or Williams to enable Jota

if you're wildcarding you shouldn't really have any immediate transfers, pick someone with better fixtures in the short term would be my advice.

Not how I play it. I brought in Semedo on my wildcard and benched him v United. This week he started and returned, and will be nailed for the forthcoming fixtures. I had Livramento v Newcastle to fill in. I play a squad game with 13 outfield players ready to go. It also means I have no stress over Antonio's red card.

I'm considering Marcal in for Dier to go with Coady, Rudiger, Trent, and Livra...but i am waiting for news on Dier injury first. Eventually Rudiger may become Reece James. So Pool, Chelsea, double Wolves long-ish term seems ok right?

I kind of want double Chelsea but can't pay for that anytime soon.

Yeah, I think a Wolves defender is far better than a Spuds one. I was also planning on getting James for GW7 but I'm thinking a Wolves defender for a lower price should at least equal his points, and outscore him if James is rotated.
Looking ahead, Wolves v Leeds is going to trouble me in GW9, but otherwise, my squad with two Wolves defenders looks decent for a while. My defence would be Trent, Luke and 2 Wolves (and Livra).

            • 2 Years

That would be my defense except for Shaw, who i just shipped for Rudiger, and i feel ok about it.

Reece may have a better attacking upside than any Wolves, or most other defenders for that matter, and yeah the rotation issue will always be a factor, even if he's playing so well that Tuchel only rests him because of so many competitions, which is inevitable.

Looking to turn Antonio, Pogba, Benrahma, Webster and Coady
into Ronaldo, Gallagher, James, 4.4, Omobamidele

    …over the next 3 weeks.
With exact $ for it, is the best idea this week just to save? Benrahma to Gallagher may be a necessity before the latter rises, which I wouldn’t particularly have a problem with.

Answer this somebody , I made a tit of myself on the previous page in response to it.
Would like to rectify it. Thanks.

Antonio likely to fall with so many selling him. Benrahma too will likely fall in a couple weeks if he blanks again. Ronaldo, Gallagher and possibly James all will rise. Planning those moves over quite a strech of time may leave you a bit short of cash by the time GW 6/7 comes around.

Obviously in would be Leeds attackers and possibly a forward around 6m

That will be fine for this week. You can move on Benhrama next week and Raphinha is long term pick so worth the -4 imo

No. On WC most of them will go. Need to sort out at least 5: Tsimikas, Dier, Mbeumo, Toney, Antonio.
Will also get rid Foster, Bruno, Greenwood, and Ings, on WC.
Among them only Salah and TAA look essential.
Another option to sort out with 2FT.

Ha, sorry. It exasperates me how many of the Pro Pundit 'legends' have benches full of your Tsimis, Omos and Scarletts. Gonna be fun watching their expert videos on how to dig yourself out of an Antonio-sized hole. How people don't have two viable subs leaves me dumbfounded.

What do you call viable subs?
I've never ever got points off my bench, it's never happened that my bench player has return the week one of my first 11 misses out so I keep my bench as cheap as possible although I like two of them to be playing regularly. For example on my WC i went Liv Williams Scarlett, Liv returned this week but I wont be getting him, I will start Williams next week over selling Antonio and he will concede, I also predict that City will thump us and one of my first 11 will miss out so ill get Liv off the bench with 0 or -1 which is why I am tempted to sell Antonio for DCL or Bamford as I have the MITB?

'Never ever'? That surprises me. Just last night, Chelsea left out Mount and Christensen. I can imagine after GW7 plenty managers having those two and James - a similar Starting XI in the midst of CL ties and plenty will be looking to their autosubs. Certainly in my mini-league, when I follow it in Live FPL, i have to keep pressing the autosub button too get an accurate picture. Talking of which, got to mention the rival who captained Son, with his vice cap as Antonio!

    Thoughts on this WC:

    Sanchez - Guaita
    TAA - 5.0 (TBC) - White - Duffy - Livramento
    Greenwood - Jota - Torres - Benrahma - Gallagher
    Ronaldo - Lukaku - Bamford

    1. Holmes
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 7 months ago

I would get rid of Benrahma and one of the GKs and use that cash in defense. So something like Sissoko, 4m GK, Dias should do the job, Christensen as 5m defender looks good.

      1. Jafooli
        • 12 Years
        2 years, 7 months ago

Yeah, good points - I’ve always been a 2 x playing GK type player.

The fear of my one playing GK not playing and getting zero. And sometimes you can rotate when vs Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea & Liverpool…

        Reckon Benrahma time is done?

        Did you WC Sherlock?

        1. Andy_Social
          • 11 Years

Actually, I'm on Sanchez alone for the short term. When he disappears for GW9, I am planning a 2GK situation. My main one will be Meslier, but Leeds can get battered by the Big Boys and I've noticed that Guaita dovetails with those games very nicely. I might take a look at how Ramsdale fits if he keeps his place. The backup would get about 10 games in the season, so I think it's worth having if you plan it right.

Benrahma - I was going to sell him next GW, but I'm looking at getting Marcel in for Duffy on my 1FT. If i don't sell Ben this week, I reckon I might as well keep him until the Great Chelsea Turn and lose him for mount GW7.

I think Benrahma will probably still score decent enough for his price but it's time to move on and try some other players, those fixtures don't scream goals either.

Team is looking OK. So no WC, sticking to the plan of getting Leeds players and possibly adding Ronaldo in the process by next GW 😀

The issue is Ronnie will be perma-captain, with Lukaku picking up the slack on easy weeks.

May also consider go with salah and DCL over lukaku and GW/Jota then get lukaku for Ronnie but could also go wrong.

Anyways not fan of 2 gks or 5 playing midfielders so might get rid of benny and guaita.

Maybe. Jota seems more reliable right now.
I want to see Firmino through the middle and Jota in Mané’s spot too.

And regressing I guess. Some players are on the wrong side of the age curve and not enough young ones coming up it seems. Midfield especially.

Henderson & Milner are big misses these days.

Reckon Jota is safe for decent minutes then?

Yep. Probably averages out at 60mins a game for the season. And his returns are awesome for his price. If those minutes get closer to 75-90 average he’s a super steal.

Happy to have had him from the start and can’t see me selling any time soon.

It does look like it. I hope so anyway. I've got CR7, Luka, TAA and Jota, intending to without Salah the whole season if I can get away with it.

              Interesting.
There is this idea that Salah is less effective with Jota than Firmino. No idea if the stats bear that out.
Also interested in how Elliot might effect Salah if he keeps playing.

As a nervous no-Salah owner, I certainly wouldn't be in the herd that says Salah is a poorer player or anything. My reasoning for going without is that I believe CR7 and Lukaku will match him for points and can be captained all season, so there is no room for Salah.

As far as Liverpool go, I think Elliott is very exciting, and mainly enhances Trent's effectiveness, but certainly doesn't hinder Salah. Today will be a good game to scrutinise closely.

I wouldn't say second choice, more like Jota has staked a claim as an equally solid choice, and I agree with Holmes above, he's probably more of a grinder than Jota (on FIFA his workrate is high/high lol), and he has better chemistry with Salah and Mane.

I don't think they're regressing, but their squad depth is too shallow. Imo, their window is still open for a couple seasons still, but they need to add reliable class.

If you wanna make 6!l changes I’d WC.
Not sure you need all 6 for next week - maybe you can spread it out and avoid a WC.

None of those moves are any major changes, so I would slowly do the changes with FTs and delay WC.

You can start with something like Digne to Marcal or Benrahma to Gray and Toney to Bamford this week

I absolutely agree on this point.
Toney/Benrahma/Buendia are the only 3 I see as being somewhat trades.

How many frees you have? Could just get rid of Toney and Beundia/Rama.

    Thoughts on this WC Team.

    Meslier
    TAA Reece Semedo White Livra
    Salah Jota Raphinha Sarr 4.5
    Ron Bamford Jimenez

Jota or Robbo depends on Firmino's availability.

Robbo gives a route to double Chelsea defence in GW7.

I'd prefer Jota and a 4.5 gk. Then you can go Semedo up after gw7.

GW 7 is a bit away. By then you might want to ditch a forward and upgrade White to the extra Chelsea defender.

I’d say go Jota. Team looks a-ok.

Why did Christianson not play vs Villa?

    Is he first choice?

You can't really say he's first choice over he experienced Tilva. My guess is Christensen had a heavy international workload and has CL coming up, whereas Tilva didn't join his nation and got a rest.

Yeh, he was good. Makes it a tricky choice to keep or sell. The one who looked a bit peripheral in the CR7 show was Greenwood, for me.

The goal he scored? We don't know for sure he's not on pens although that would be my assumption. I think he'll substantially outscore Pogba and Greenwood in the long term.

Ok you maybe right but not worth 12 mil i mean him or Salah on penos or KDB if fully fit ? I can bet you now that Pogba (as he plays 90 like him) will be very close if not outscoring him plus its not like shipping him out for fun its for getting CR7 so relatively he lost value

    Which one do you prefer?
    A. ESR > Raphinha, play Ayling
    B. Antonio > Bamford/DCL, play ESR
    C. ESR > Raphinha, Antonio > Bamford (-4)
