FPL Gameweek 5 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.6m) scored again for Manchester United as Said Benrahma (£6.4m) rewarded his owners with his first goal since Gameweek 2.

Neal Maupay (£6.5m) and Danny Welbeck (£6.0m) inspired Brighton and Hove Albion moved up to fourth after a 2-1 win over Leicester City, while Chelsea kept another clean sheet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of today’s games but in the meantime, our long-dormant Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, PROJECTED BONUS

FPL TAKEAWAYS

  • Since making his second Manchester United debut in Gameweek 4, Cristiano Ronaldo has registered three goals, 13 goal attempts, 12 shots in the box, five big chances and 3.24 expected goals (xG), all league-leading totals. During that time, team-mate Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) has managed just one attempt in the box, though it did hit the post.
  • Following today’s game, Luke Shaw (£5.5m) ranks 30th amongst all defenders for FPL points with 18. Despite that, his 14 chances created is only bettered by Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m), Jack Grealish (£8.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£7.5m), while his average position (no 23) v West Ham United was as advanced as Mason Greenwood (£7.7m) on the opposite flank.

Manchester United’s average position map v West Ham United in Gameweek 5

  • Man Utd delivered 33 crosses into the box against West Ham, their highest total in a single league game so far this season, with Shaw responsible for 16 of them.
  • Benrahma’s deflected effort for West Ham opened the scoring at the London Stadium, his first goal since Gameweek 2. The Algerian now ranks second amongst all midfielders for FPL points, only behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). Next up for the Hammers is a trip to Leeds United.
  • Brighton moved up to fourth in the Premier League table after a 2-1 victory over Leicester City, their fourth win of the season. Budget enabler Shane Duffy (£4.2m) supplied the assist for Maupay’s penalty, and has now provided 27 FPL points across his five starts.
  • It’s now three defeats in five matches for Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes in 2021/22. However, Jamie Vardy (10.4m) continues to produce, with three goals, one assist and five bonus points during that time.
  • It was a quiet afternoon for Spurs duo Harry Kane (£12.2m) and Son Heung-min (£10.0m), as Chelsea restricted them to a combined four shots, with just one arriving in the box.
  • Marcos Alonso (£5.7m) made his fifth consecutive start today, as Ben Chilwell (£5.7m) still waits to play his first minute of Premier League football this season. Today’s assist for the Spaniard – his second attacking return of the campaign – means that he is now the top scoring defender in the game.

INJURIES AND BANS

The best goalkeepers for UEFA Champions League Fantasy

Edouard Mendy (£6.0m) missed out for Chelsea today, with Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.9m) replacing him in goal.

The Senegalese stopper was involved in a collision towards the end of Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Zenit on Tuesday, which meant he had trouble diving.

“Edou got a huge hit, we tried everything in the last days but he never felt fully comfortable in diving.” – Thomas Tuchel

Yves Bissouma (£4.6m) appeared to pick up a knock at the Amex Stadium. Despite not being taken off initially, he was finally withdrawn after 79 minutes, with Graham Potter providing an update after the match:

“He was desperate to play, the medical department were ok with it. He extended his knee a little bit. As the game starts to go on, the fatigue might be a problem, but he was desperate to go out. It was a decision for the medical department.”

Elsewhere, Son made a surprise return from injury and played the full 90 minutes for Spurs, as did team-mate Eric Dier (£4.6m).

However, the injuries sustained by Lucas Moura (£6.5m) and Steven Bergwijn (£6.0m) in the Europa Conference League kept them out.

After serving one-match bans in Gameweek 5, Japhet Tanganga (£4.6m) and Michail Antonio (£7.9m) will both now be available for their respective teams next weekend.

Differential League 2021 - GW 6 Form, apology for GW 5 and GW 4 results.

Pick a new team each week with players that have under 10% ownership and see who the differential master is by the end of the season.

Further rules explained in the form for GW 6 entry here:
    https://forms.gle/gPAztb1X4MF3mzfE9

GW 5 apology - Due to personal circumstances I was unable to put out the GW 5 form. I even missed my own FPL changes and still had DCL for GW 5!

    GW 4 Results - Stata Dont Lie - 59 points! https://imgur.com/6syusbU
    GW 4 Differential Dream Team - 116 points! https://imgur.com/pGI6ZHV

This league is very much in the beginning stages and I will share a live leaderboard as soon as I can figure out how to present it well in Google Sheets.

Save or replace Marcal & Mount with Fts.

Saving would allow you get a Chelsea defender next gameweek & downgrade Mount, it seems he isn’t nailed otherwise save again in gw 7 since you may need a Chelsea attacker

No. I have never made a transfer based on ownership - just form and fixtures. On saying that, Antonio should be in your team regardless given his form this year.

Most have had Antotnio since the start. It was noticeable how the elite players kept hold of him last week.

I kept hold of him on WC. So does that make me an elite player? 😀

Completely agree with your point though. There's a lot of reasons to do that transfer but ownership % shouldn't be one of them.

If Raphinha is not fit, what would you do?

          A: Toney -> Bamford and go 343
B: Roll FT and go 442(Dier the only defender with a tough fixture)

I sold for Gallagher last night, who looks like a great long term value pick given his involvement. I dont think you need any City for the next 2 and that gives a bit more time to gather information.

I've got a few plans Im mulling over - the 2 and 3 premium strat.

For the 2 strat, I'll probably hokey cokey Grealish in for GW8, as Lukaku frees up 1mln over Ronaldo. Grealish is leading my creative stats tables and has goals in him, seems more nailed if that means anything under Pep.
The 3 strat does not do City as it cant afford benchings.

Hasn’t quite been in form, once he hits form he will be a much more regular feature in the team but no one safe from rotation under Tuchel with the squad available to him at Chelsea.

I've had Jimenez the last two weeks for Watford & Brentford fixtures, alongside Ronaldo and Lukaku... yes no Antonio v Southampton.
However, I'm really unsure what to do.
I can not see Lage going with an unchanged side again, I think there will be rotation in particular the forwards. What do people think?

Have Ronaldo myself. But I think rightnow they are even. Ok. Lukaku has had 2 more games, but both have got 3 goals from 2 games. Ronaldo has palyed only 2 games. So yeah rightnow it's hard to choose between them if you have to choose. GW 6 is not gonna change that, since Man city and Aston villa are not comparable opponents.

Im mulling over 2 strats - just Rom, or Ron & Rom.

However the problem is the captaincy. I cant see where im going to captain Ron GW8 - 13. I generally want my players to be scoring 25ppm over the season during their time in my team. Without captaincy he'll need to earn me 50pts over those 6 weeks and I just dont see it with the fixtures Im afraid.

Now it is possible that I look to go with the Ron & Rom strat after GW13, with a little more team value built.

I wouldnt worry about his value. Already at 45% ownership (55% is about the max it can be). All 2 premium stratters will be selling GW7/8, not to mention casuals will follow suit when there is a Rom brace + Ron blank in lets say GW10. It going to be very difficult for him to get to 13mln and stay there.

Ronaldo will score against anyone. His career + the recent Euros serve as evidence of this. Also, factor in that he hasn't had much decent service at United (lack of quality crosses) yet is still posting strong numbers and goals. He also should of had a pen yesterday. My point is, he's nowhere near up and running but is still banging goals in. He will want the golden boot this season so fixture hokey cokey is a risk with him from a fpl pov

based on a sample size of NEW whu you may well be right.
but you are extrapolating a 361pt season at his current scoring rate.
