FPL Gameweek 5 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.6m) scored again for Manchester United as Said Benrahma (£6.4m) rewarded his owners with his first goal since Gameweek 2.

Neal Maupay (£6.5m) and Danny Welbeck (£6.0m) inspired Brighton and Hove Albion moved up to fourth after a 2-1 win over Leicester City, while Chelsea kept another clean sheet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of today’s games but in the meantime, our long-dormant Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, PROJECTED BONUS

FPL TAKEAWAYS

  • Since making his second Manchester United debut in Gameweek 4, Cristiano Ronaldo has registered three goals, 13 goal attempts, 12 shots in the box, five big chances and 3.24 expected goals (xG), all league-leading totals. During that time, team-mate Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) has managed just one attempt in the box, though it did hit the post.
  • Following today’s game, Luke Shaw (£5.5m) ranks 30th amongst all defenders for FPL points with 18. Despite that, his 14 chances created is only bettered by Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m), Jack Grealish (£8.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£7.5m), while his average position (no 23) v West Ham United was as advanced as Mason Greenwood (£7.7m) on the opposite flank.

Manchester United’s average position map v West Ham United in Gameweek 5

  • Man Utd delivered 33 crosses into the box against West Ham, their highest total in a single league game so far this season, with Shaw responsible for 16 of them.
  • Benrahma’s deflected effort for West Ham opened the scoring at the London Stadium, his first goal since Gameweek 2. The Algerian now ranks second amongst all midfielders for FPL points, only behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). Next up for the Hammers is a trip to Leeds United.
  • Brighton moved up to fourth in the Premier League table after a 2-1 victory over Leicester City, their fourth win of the season. Budget enabler Shane Duffy (£4.2m) supplied the assist for Maupay’s penalty, and has now provided 27 FPL points across his five starts.
  • It’s now three defeats in five matches for Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes in 2021/22. However, Jamie Vardy (10.4m) continues to produce, with three goals, one assist and five bonus points during that time.
  • It was a quiet afternoon for Spurs duo Harry Kane (£12.2m) and Son Heung-min (£10.0m), as Chelsea restricted them to a combined four shots, with just one arriving in the box.
  • Marcos Alonso (£5.7m) made his fifth consecutive start today, as Ben Chilwell (£5.7m) still waits to play his first minute of Premier League football this season. Today’s assist for the Spaniard – his second attacking return of the campaign – means that he is now the top scoring defender in the game.

INJURIES AND BANS

The best goalkeepers for UEFA Champions League Fantasy

Edouard Mendy (£6.0m) missed out for Chelsea today, with Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.9m) replacing him in goal.

The Senegalese stopper was involved in a collision towards the end of Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Zenit on Tuesday, which meant he had trouble diving.

“Edou got a huge hit, we tried everything in the last days but he never felt fully comfortable in diving.” – Thomas Tuchel

Yves Bissouma (£4.6m) appeared to pick up a knock at the Amex Stadium. Despite not being taken off initially, he was finally withdrawn after 79 minutes, with Graham Potter providing an update after the match:

“He was desperate to play, the medical department were ok with it. He extended his knee a little bit. As the game starts to go on, the fatigue might be a problem, but he was desperate to go out. It was a decision for the medical department.”

Elsewhere, Son made a surprise return from injury and played the full 90 minutes for Spurs, as did team-mate Eric Dier (£4.6m).

However, the injuries sustained by Lucas Moura (£6.5m) and Steven Bergwijn (£6.0m) in the Europa Conference League kept them out.

After serving one-match bans in Gameweek 5, Japhet Tanganga (£4.6m) and Michail Antonio (£7.9m) will both now be available for their respective teams next weekend.

Hopefully. I had both in GW1. I know what Son can do. I think there's good potential in Smith Rowe for a bargain price.

I don't own but would ditch, just be aware that as soon as you do he is bound to score. Such a frustrating player which is why I've steered clear entirely this season.

It's an interesting call between Sarr, Gallagher and Gray. Sarr wins most of the metrics. Gallagher is so cheap though. Shame about his fixtures.

Disastrous week for me. 50k OR- 250k OR, 2- 14th in ML.

    What to do now?

    Sanchez
    Taa Shaw Semedo Livramento
    Salah Jota Raphina Traore
    Cr7 Lukaku

    Steele Sissoko Williama Locadia

Plan was to roll and do Jota and Williams to Rudiger and Gallagher in 7 followed by Shaw to Cancelo in 8.

However I as I only have the exact money I am going to be priced out of these moves. Should I prioritise and just do Shaw to Rudiger this week?

Yeah things really havent went my way last two weeks. Semedo, Jota and Traore all should have hauled. Meanwhile most of my ML got 10 points from a deflected Benny goal of their bench.

Really wanted to keep Shaw for Villa, would have been much better just getting Rudiger in GW 4 WC, costly mistake!

How much longer do we give Greenwood? With everybody focusing on bringing in Chelsea it's likely that Greenwood would be out on a hit, as non of the Chelsea midfield really appeal.

Seeing how the Wingbacks are performing exceptionally well this season - Alonso, Cancelo, TAA, etc. as well as potential ones the likes of Tierney, Semedo, etc., is it time to shift funds to defense and go for a strong 4-man defense with Duffy/Livra as an able 5th defender?

Did we just get our pants pulled down by bringing in Wolves players?
Some even doubled/tripled up on wc
Az must have something to say about bringing back Semedo

Is the lure of someone like Reece James just an illusion and Rudiger is the most nailed in Chelsea backline

Should we now bring in Sarr (perhaps for Torres with 2 tough fixtures) or is it chasing last weeks points + Norwich effect.
This bodes well for Everton this week assuming they can get some troops back

On a personal level, I just wildcarded in gw5 and still ranked 1.9m (314 total points) what recommendations to those with a similar score / rank to make some headways in the coming 3-5 weeks

I brought in Sa & Semedo on my WC by seeing their impressive stats only. Brought in James also. Have Doucoure and going to bench him against Norwich if the Everton players do not return from injury

          Semedo and James here.
I’ll give Wolves 2-3 games then probably move him on
I also chose Gray over Gallagher cause in the short term he has Norwich

Honestly think Wolves can get relegated this season

They're showing that worrying ability to lose games no matter what the circumstance

        Play brilliantly? Lose game
        Play reasonably? Lose game
        Play terribly? Lose game

Usually a new manager bounce helps a team get points on the board, Lage's new manager bounce has consisted of 4 losses in 5 games... I know they have looked pretty good at times, but it's not enough when teams are able to turn them over so easily

Big Sam (or Nuno back after Spurs sack him) in by Christmas might be their only hope of staying up

I just went Semedo on wc, with the thinking if he flops by gw7/8 it’s an easier price to move on than 4.5
Maybe we need to give Brentford more credit but either way that match was a crapshoot

For how long are we going to ignore Alonso? He has started every game. Unlucky not to come out with a TAA vs Leceister like haul against Spurs (goal cleared off the line and another assist for Silva). And he plays for the best defense in Europe.

      Are people overthinking Alonso/Chilwell situation?

I keep avoiding Alonso as folks tell me he'll get benched for Chillwell soon
But he's started all PL games & CL match so I'm getting him in after mid-week Cup game.

Have Duffy & livramento on my bench so happy for those two to come in if required like happened with TAA this weekend

Is triple Chelsea defence an answer to the Ronaldo v Lukaku conundrum or just plain overkill? Have played around with it on gw7/8 wildcard and it opens up a lot of decent variations.

      How fixture-proof is CR7?
For those of us who only have two high-priced premium attackers (the other being Mo Salah), should we keep him after GW6 despite United's run of tough fixtures from GW7 to GW13, or is Lukaku likely to outscore him during that period?

Would owning all three (plus TAA of course) weaken the rest of the squad too much?

Are the mid priced midfielders from the so called big 4 worth it? (example Jota, Torres, Mount, Greenwood)
Is it better to go cheaper? (example Sarr, Raphina, Benrahma, Grey)
Then reinvest the money at the back, maybe playing a 4 or 5 man defence with Chelsea, Liverpool and city defenders? Just seems every week they are getting clean sheets and attacking returns.

Gallagher + Raph as the mids.

Utd are set up to make him score, not even win, just make him score and hope that gets the win. He's an elite scorer with 9 outfield players like Bruno Pogba Shaw all trying to get him chances

Sounds simple and I guess it is, he'll be scoring bucketloads

What the actual fck is Ronaldo going to be like in that GW15 - GW27 fixture run?

At the rate he is shooting he will probably have at least 10 league goals on the board by then

He could score 15 goals in those 13 games easily, he could probably get 20+ if he lands on the right side with a few pot shots...

Salah's 16, 17, 19, 22, 26 look too juicy not to captain at first glance (AVL, NEW, LEE, BRE, NOR) - then you see Ronaldo's in the same weeks and its going to be tricky (nor, bre, new, avl, lee) - although 17, 22 & 26 look slam dunk Salah caps tbf

I believe that home field advantage is a thing and that it is stronger when fans are in stadiums.

Therefore in my opinion, it makes captaincy a bit easier when you have two great options and only one of them is at home.

For the current Ronaldo, unfeasible. Lukaku got more attacking returns than him last season in Serie A and currently plays for a far more fixture-proof side. Lukaku also 300 points then?

I'm sorry aren't Juventus 18th right now in Serie A with 4 goals scored and Inter 1st with 15 goals. Kinda tells u the quality of chances being given to each striker and Ronaldo still outscored him.

You just proved my point then. Chelsea will give Lukaku better quality chances than United for Ronaldo.

And Ronaldo did not outscore him. He got more goals, but Lukaku got more goals + assists.

    Hi guys!
Had a good year last year with top 2000, but struggeling a bit this year. Activated wildcard now....
    Wich player would you remove/insert?

    Ramsdale (sanchez)
Trent - Rudiger - Reguillon (Liveramento - Wiliiams)
Salah - Sarr - Benrahma - Raphina (Kovacic)
    Bamford - Ronaldo - Antonio

Leeds, spurs and Chelsea have good fixtures.
Lukaku, Benrahma/antonio (bad fixtures) and reguillon are my biggest concerns

      Good team.

You've said West Ham have bad fixtures, so not 2 of them. Gallagher over Benrahma imo.
Likewise Sp*rs. You've got Christ and Tierney around that price bracket, and James at just a smidge more.
Kovacic is a waste of a perfectly good Chelski slot, also 2 keepers not massively keen on, unless there is a good rotation there.

Chilwell exists. Which makes both Alonso and Chilwell no goes until Tuchel says something firm or one of them is injured.

I have Jota & Greenwood and I don’t have Sar & Benrahma. I think Jota should get another chance, he could easily scored last match. But Greenwood perhaps a rotation risk? should sell him for Sar/Benrahma?

I have Benrhama but would sell for Sarr out of the two probably

Although as a Jota and a Greenwood owner, I am keeping both for the moment
