FPL Gameweek 5 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.6m) scored again for Manchester United as Said Benrahma (£6.4m) rewarded his owners with his first goal since Gameweek 2.

Neal Maupay (£6.5m) and Danny Welbeck (£6.0m) inspired Brighton and Hove Albion moved up to fourth after a 2-1 win over Leicester City, while Chelsea kept another clean sheet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of today’s games but in the meantime, our long-dormant Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, PROJECTED BONUS

FPL TAKEAWAYS

  • Since making his second Manchester United debut in Gameweek 4, Cristiano Ronaldo has registered three goals, 13 goal attempts, 12 shots in the box, five big chances and 3.24 expected goals (xG), all league-leading totals. During that time, team-mate Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) has managed just one attempt in the box, though it did hit the post.
  • Following today’s game, Luke Shaw (£5.5m) ranks 30th amongst all defenders for FPL points with 18. Despite that, his 14 chances created is only bettered by Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m), Jack Grealish (£8.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£7.5m), while his average position (no 23) v West Ham United was as advanced as Mason Greenwood (£7.7m) on the opposite flank.

Manchester United’s average position map v West Ham United in Gameweek 5

  • Man Utd delivered 33 crosses into the box against West Ham, their highest total in a single league game so far this season, with Shaw responsible for 16 of them.
  • Benrahma’s deflected effort for West Ham opened the scoring at the London Stadium, his first goal since Gameweek 2. The Algerian now ranks second amongst all midfielders for FPL points, only behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). Next up for the Hammers is a trip to Leeds United.
  • Brighton moved up to fourth in the Premier League table after a 2-1 victory over Leicester City, their fourth win of the season. Budget enabler Shane Duffy (£4.2m) supplied the assist for Maupay’s penalty, and has now provided 27 FPL points across his five starts.
  • It’s now three defeats in five matches for Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes in 2021/22. However, Jamie Vardy (10.4m) continues to produce, with three goals, one assist and five bonus points during that time.
  • It was a quiet afternoon for Spurs duo Harry Kane (£12.2m) and Son Heung-min (£10.0m), as Chelsea restricted them to a combined four shots, with just one arriving in the box.
  • Marcos Alonso (£5.7m) made his fifth consecutive start today, as Ben Chilwell (£5.7m) still waits to play his first minute of Premier League football this season. Today’s assist for the Spaniard – his second attacking return of the campaign – means that he is now the top scoring defender in the game.

INJURIES AND BANS

The best goalkeepers for UEFA Champions League Fantasy

Edouard Mendy (£6.0m) missed out for Chelsea today, with Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.9m) replacing him in goal.

The Senegalese stopper was involved in a collision towards the end of Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Zenit on Tuesday, which meant he had trouble diving.

“Edou got a huge hit, we tried everything in the last days but he never felt fully comfortable in diving.” – Thomas Tuchel

Yves Bissouma (£4.6m) appeared to pick up a knock at the Amex Stadium. Despite not being taken off initially, he was finally withdrawn after 79 minutes, with Graham Potter providing an update after the match:

“He was desperate to play, the medical department were ok with it. He extended his knee a little bit. As the game starts to go on, the fatigue might be a problem, but he was desperate to go out. It was a decision for the medical department.”

Elsewhere, Son made a surprise return from injury and played the full 90 minutes for Spurs, as did team-mate Eric Dier (£4.6m).

However, the injuries sustained by Lucas Moura (£6.5m) and Steven Bergwijn (£6.0m) in the Europa Conference League kept them out.

After serving one-match bans in Gameweek 5, Japhet Tanganga (£4.6m) and Michail Antonio (£7.9m) will both now be available for their respective teams next weekend.

We are not talking about Alonso and keeps on ticking, with no end to his first team involvement. Maybe its time we take him serious. What happened to Chilwell though? Is he a second 11 now?

Will be between Alonso and Rudi for me next week. Will probably be dull and go Rudi though.

I had him and got spooked by the mythical Chilwell and WCed him out GW4. Big regret. Since Tuchel took over, he’s played most games, and when he doesn’t, he tends to avoid the 1pt cameos. Better option than R James IMO (and I posted that here before the weekend, so this is not just a hindsight post).

I think if you are on a 3 premium strat then Rudiger looks the best bet.

If you are on a 2 premium strat then use the Ronaldo --> Lukaku dividend to get yourself an operational 1st sub e.g. Christensen/Tierney, and go with James.

    My current team is:

    Sanchez, Gunn
    TAA, James, Livramento, Semedo, Coady
    Pogba, Jota, Torres, Benrahama, Gray
    Ronaldo, Lukaku, Antonio

I have 2FT and looking to possibly take a hit to bring in these changes:

    Coady > Cancelo
    James > Rudiger / Alonso
    Torres > Kovacic

James and Torres look to uncertain, where as other Chelsea and Man C def look set. Just not sure About Rudiger over Alonso as i sense Alonso may get benched soon. Thoughts please?

Alonso does seem to be 1st choice LWB now, but I wouldnt be so hasty to get rid of James - might have been benched because of the burglary & I'd expect his mins to be similar to Alonso long term.

I think you'll regret bringing in Kovacic though - don't see a spot for him now that Kanté is back (clearly Jorginho & Kanté as holding mids, no?)

This is going to be a classic for me up there with the likes of Son out for Bruno last season when he scored 4.

Brought Torres in on my WC for two blanks, selling him this week before Che Liv, he'll probably score in both.

    Thoughts on the below ?

For GW6: Keep Bruno, keep FT, (c) Salah
For GW7: Scarlet Bruno Shaw to Kaku (c) 4.5 Rudi -4
    For GW8: Greenwood out

I could consider getting Kovacic instead of 4.5 but it would block potential Chelsea def double up. Probably can’t get rid of Greenwood earlier.

Budget mids are a tough one this season. People are rushing to bring Sarr but he just played the only team that is worse than Watford. Watford look very problematic going forward. Benrahma looked great against Newcastle and a crappy Leicester side but has been anonymous in the other 3 fixtures. Gray is overperforming but at least he had a good game this GW. Gallagher plays great and is very involved in Palace's attack but fixtures aren't brilliant and he isn't great at finishing his chances. Traore no end product but good fixtures. Raphinha is the only one that I would be confident owning week in week out.

Gallagher has 2 goals, 2 assists in 4 games vs BRE whu TOT liv.

Those are not easy games. He also has higher xG and xA than Sarr. I think Gallagher is the one to go for.

I think I agree. For now my team is structured with Jota and Greenwood plus one budget mid so Raph is taking that spot but Gallagher is probably my go to once I downgrade Jota/Greenwood.

I'm targeting Norwich with my FT going forward. Owning TAA, Salah, Ronaldo, Lukaku & Chelsea defender results in having a lot of that kinda priced players. Sometimes one of them could be benched due to fixture if Livramento/Sissoko/Kovacic looks a better prospect in that given week, but think my FTs will be targeting players in that price range while avoiding price drops on the handfull of players in and out of my squad.

      Something like this for GW7:
      .1 ITB
      Schmeicel
      TAA - Rüdiger - Semedo - Tierney
      Salah - Gallagher - Kovacic
      Ronaldo - Lukaku - Wood

      (Ward, Gray, Sissoko, Livramento)

GW 8: Wood -> Maupay. (.5 ITB) bench Semedo, Sissoko, Livramento
GW 9: Save FT (.5 ITB) bench Maupay, Sissoko, Semedo
GW 10: Bring in Raphinha or Bamford
GW 11: Bring in Toney or Mbuemo
GW 12: JWP, Adams or Armstrong
      and so on

    7. Shark
      • 2 Years
      8 months, 5 days ago

Agreed. When you look at the potential points for these players come the end of the season, 150 would be a good score. VVD could smash that at 170 plus. So too Cancelo, Alonso potentially at relatively bargain prices. I feel I am slowly migrating to 4 if not 5 at the back this season. It started this week with Torres / Marcal to Alonso / Cancelo. Allows Salah, Trent, Ron
      Antonio and Luk too.

No, they're not, the only 3 fixtures I would call bad are LIV, MCI and CHE, the rest is ok/winable.

      I brought in Gallagher.

It is a plausible scenario that if at xmas Palace >> Arsenal then you might see Vieira make the move across.

There are not many clubs where you are going to use 3 slots on, but Chelsea you could have 5 from at least. Dont waste 1 of them on Kovacic

Not a good weekend for VAR. Never a penalty for BHA. Vestergard was being held down. How can they get that wrong?

    1. bombonera
        8 months, 5 days ago

Not just that, but the 2 disallowed goals for Leicester also.
Bit of a misleading result in that match when VAR was responsible for a 3 goal swing

Best Keeper for the rest of the season?

      A) Ederson

Agreed. Don't feel comfortable with a premium gk, you know that someone cheap will obliterate them for value, whether that's Ramsdale or someone else (Raya?)

I still think the 4.5's represent the best value and help with team structure as you wouldn't want Alison as he takes up a Liverpool spot, same with Ederson and Mendy

Carabao cup game on Wednesday will tell us more.
It's about time we told Leno thanks but no thanks. Solid stopper but just so unprofessional, the text to Martinez saying thanks, and then deciding he wants to leave after all, he's a wetwipe.

Both don't seem to rack up saves. It would be good if we get a defence that gives up a lot of pea rollers.

Things can change quickly for mid- lower teams quickly. So depending on stats is not a great idea for them. Example wolves, Southampton. Newcastle, leeds can fight back anytime

Pick 3 for the foreseeable future:

      A) Odegaard
      B) Gray
      C) Sarr
      D) Gallagher
      E) Raphinha
      F) Doucoure
      G) Benrahma

My issue is I cant figure out who is nailed.

        Azpi Rotateswith James
Alonso will no doubt rotate with Chilwell
        Christensen doesnt always play

I think Rudiger and Silva are the best buys in terms of minutes

also happened to be the top scorers this week. James was must have a few weeks ago. be careful of recency bias.
by GW8, James+Chilwell could be the place to be.

        Rudiger
        Dave
        Christ
        James
        Silva
        Alonso
        Chilwell
        Chabolah

Feels like an injury is required to firm it up a bit.

      £0.0 ITB

      Meslier
      TAA, Digne (yuk), Marcal
