International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty and who could miss Gameweek 8?

The second international break of 2021/22 gets underway today, with over 200 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players in action for their countries over the next week.

Many countries are only in action twice over the next week, having had to cram in a triple-header of matches over the last few international breaks.

There are some exceptions, however, notably in South America.

And it’s those CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers that could have serious repercussions for Fantasy managers in Gameweek 8, as we’ll discuss below.

NEW QUARANTINE RULES

Villa bank 11th clean sheet as Martinez bags another haul

We saw the likes of Emiliano Martinez (£5.5m) and Cristian Romero (£4.9m) miss out in Gameweek 4 thanks to quarantine rules surrounding red-list countries but there has been a change to the protocol since then.

New guidelines drawn up by the United Kingdom government will enable players who travel to red-zone nations during the October international break to play upon their arrival back in the UK, so long as they have been ‘double vaccinated’ against Covid-19.

Those players who have had two injections will be permitted to train and play club matches from the day of their return but will otherwise have to quarantine for 10 days in “bespoke facilities” in between their involvement on the training ground and on matchday.

WHO IS IN DANGER OF MISSING OUT IN GAMEWEEK 8?

The best FPL midfielders for a Gameweek 7 Wildcard

For once, it’s not coronavirus that looks the main danger to the availability of our Fantasy assets in the next Gameweek.

This time, it’s the late kick-off times/dates in South America.

Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Colombia, Ecuador and Uruguay – all of whom will be represented by at least one Premier League player – will have World Cup qualifiers taking place barely 36 hours before Gameweek 8 starts:

FPL PLAYERS/TEAMS POTENTIALLY AFFECTED
  • ASTON VILLA: Martínez (ARG), Luiz (BRA)
  • BRIGHTON: Sarmiento (ECU)
  • CHELSEA: Thiago Silva (BRA)
  • EVERTON: Mina (COL)
  • LEEDS: Raphinha (BRA)
  • LIVERPOOL: Alisson (BRA), Fabinho (BRA)
  • MANCHESTER CITY: Jesus (BRA), Ederson (BRA)
  • MANCHESTER UNITED: Fred (BRA), Cavani (URU)
  • NEWCASTLE: Almiron (PAR)
  • SPURS: Romero (ARG), Lo Celso (ARG), Emerson (BRA), Sanchez (COL)

Everton and Spurs are at least in action on the Sunday of Gameweek 8, giving the likes of Romero an extra day for recovery – although it’s still a swift turnaround.

As for the rest of the clubs above, there are mixed messages over whether their South American players will be available for the next round of Premier League matches.

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to face Watford in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off without Alisson (£6.0m) and Fabinho (£5.4m), while Manchester United are said to be resigned to being without Edinson Cavani (£8.4m) and Fred (£4.9m) for their trip to Leicester City.

Chelsea will also surely not call upon veteran Thiago Silva (£5.4m) at Brentford, given how carefully they have managed him from international returns in the past.

City, curiously, omit mention of the October 15 matches for Gabriel Jesus (£8.6m) and Ederson (£6.0m), however.

And the Yorkshire Evening Post claim that Marcelo Bielsa expects to have Raphinha (£6.5m) available for selection against Southampton – although a start may still be a tall order, even if he does make the matchday squad.

There is better news from North America.

Wolves previously confirmed that Raul Jimenez (£7.5m) would return from Mexico in time for Gameweek 8 (there is some debate over whether this means he will miss his country’s final game against El Salvador early on Thursday morning), while Ethan Pinnock (£4.6m) and Michail Antonio (£8.0m) won’t be representing Jamaica.

      I reckon Torres
City play weaker opponent's now for a few weeks and he plays number 9 in the easier fixtures

I think if Torres is ever going to play it’s going to be after a good IB & easy fixtures which is what is happening now.

If I didn’t already own I’d go Foden though

I mean if neither is an option than neither but if you're set i'd pick Torres and bank the difference.

      Repost.

Thoughts on my current WC draft?

      Ramsdale Foster
      Dias Cancelo Azpi Rudiger Livra
      Salah Foden Saka Raph Luiz
      Lukaku Toney Antonio

Strategy to get TAA back in gw10 for 2 premium defenders or 1 premium defender plus Foden.

Really want to find a way to get Vardy in my team.....only way I can do this is to replace Toney, Foden, and Dias for Vardy, Mbuemo and Duffy. Plus it makes getting TAA back in a bit more tricky

That's nearlt my team, so I like it! I have Chilly instead of Rudiger and Gallagher instead of Luiz to counter the extra risk of benching. Assume I'll ultimately drop Gal/Saka/Raph depending on performances to upgrade one of the defs to TAA.

I would get TAA now, for something like this

        Ramsdale Sanchez
TAA Cancelo Rudiger Livra (White ? etc)
        Salah Foden Saka Raph Luiz
        Lukaku Toney Antonio

Getting Vardy is tricky would need to get someone like Doucoure & another 4.5 as starters in midfield

you can’t have them all 😉

Please don't take me out of context with what I'm going to say and i am not prejudging any cases or anything.

Lot's of players seem to be getting hit with charges of a sexual nature these days and maybe I'm naive but i would like to think that there are not that many predators involved in the professional football.

Just a theory but i think it might be possible that one or two over the years might be an attempt at extortion or even an attempt to put a player in a compromising situation so they could be exploited by a criminal betting syndicate gang.

With something like £1 billion worth of bets on each Premier League game there is ample reason to believe that the league would be targeted by such dark forces. This kind of thing goes on in lots of sports and betting scams are rampant in lower leagues and other country's so you would be naive to think that the PL would not be targeted with the stakes so high.

It would be relatively easy to pull off.Lets say one of these gangs recruited a young girl that was below the legal age but looked much more mature than here age and got her to lure the player into a honey trap.Once the player has been compromised they have him.

They could get a pro with everything to lose to do all kinda things in that situation.Like if he was a set piece taker they could say miss the next pen or else, give away a pen,get a red card and that kinda thing.

I think out of any football leagues in the world that the Premier League is the one with the most integrity and that is one of the main reasons it's so popular but with the huge sums of money being wagered on each game criminal elements must be looking at ways to exploit that too.

Heavy stuff for the DZ Ogie. I have read nothing about the case so any comments below are general. How to prove guilt or innocence in any of these cases must be so hard. Lots of girls not believed, life ruined and guys get away free. And also guys setup and in jail and worse still known as a predator. Just a bad situation all round.

Heavy stuff alright but the DZ posse are good at trashing out different theory's.

I am not referring any case in particular, just seems to be a higher rate of such cases pop up amongst PL players than the normal population and i am wondering why?

If someone was guilty of such a crime I'd be quite happy to be the one nailing them to the cross.
If a gang was caught trying to ruin a person like that they should never see the light of day again too.

Can’t disagree with any of that. However surely these guys should not be so naive especially if this is such a common occurrence as you say. Of course whether a famous PL player or not will all have to live our lives but still ...

If there also not the possibility that money and fame makes some of these guys think they can behave as they want without consequences?

              Most definitely

Lets face it with rich young PL footballers there are women throwing themselves at them all the time.It could very well go to some of their heads and they don't know where to draw the line when someone says no.

The over confidence would make would make players susceptible to fall into a honey trap if was laid at the same time.

Is there any stats to prove this is more prevalent with PL players. Maybe this is more common in society than we would care to think.
As to your original point on gambling. I gambled a lot for years. But some of the markets available in the last decade or so have no need to exist. In many cases betting on exact outcomes during an exact time in the game are open to abuse. Of course this is all monitored for weird betting patterns but still.

I found this from the UK Office of National Statistics......
                  https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/articles/natureofsexualassaultbyrapeorpenetrationenglandandwales/yearendingmarch2020

The numbers are actually much higher than i would have guessed and a large percentage are not reported to the police sadly.

Some really fishy stuff goes on in the betting markets alright.
I watched this video by Tifo Football before and it was an eye opener......

So, what does any of this have to do with Bissouma preying on a fresher's event..? If you read your own link, you'd see that fewer than 1 in 6 sexual assaults are reported due to humilitation and fear of not being believed. This fear is only stoked by attitudes like yours, claiming that women are gold diggers / secret honey traps "throwing themselves" at these arseholes.

With Chillwell back on the scene Alonso might not be worth it.
I had Alonso for a spell last season and he broke my heart getting rotated with Chillwell.

I know Alonso started well but it might be time to quit while you're ahead and go for a Chelsea defender who is more nailed.

Thanks the problem is I only bought before he was dropped for the first time. So wondering if he gets a spot back or not. Also probably priced out of Azpi as a Che replacement - I have Rudiger already. There is the option of replacing him with Dias as I do have other worries like Raphina and Jimenez.

Generally by the Thursday of the IB price rises drop to a trickle and we can all relax a bit and get on with other things in life for a few days at least … and wait in bliss until the carnage of our teams is unveiled closer to the next FPL game 🙂

And yes no1 is even considering the carnage some mishaps over IB will cause

I agree but I have already made a move with Cancelo in for my 1 FT. TAA still a doubt and players possibly not back, in time to be ready, existing rotation risks and all this before any ITB injuries happen. Definitely time to let the price changes do what they will and deal with it just before the start of the next GW. Carnage might sum it up very well.
