Which FPL players are on international duty and who could miss Gameweek 8?

The second international break of 2021/22 gets underway today, with over 200 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players in action for their countries over the next week.

Many countries are only in action twice over the next week, having had to cram in a triple-header of matches over the last few international breaks.

There are some exceptions, however, notably in South America.

And it’s those CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers that could have serious repercussions for Fantasy managers in Gameweek 8, as we’ll discuss below.

NEW QUARANTINE RULES

Villa bank 11th clean sheet as Martinez bags another haul

We saw the likes of Emiliano Martinez (£5.5m) and Cristian Romero (£4.9m) miss out in Gameweek 4 thanks to quarantine rules surrounding red-list countries but there has been a change to the protocol since then.

New guidelines drawn up by the United Kingdom government will enable players who travel to red-zone nations during the October international break to play upon their arrival back in the UK, so long as they have been ‘double vaccinated’ against Covid-19.

Those players who have had two injections will be permitted to train and play club matches from the day of their return but will otherwise have to quarantine for 10 days in “bespoke facilities” in between their involvement on the training ground and on matchday.

WHO IS IN DANGER OF MISSING OUT IN GAMEWEEK 8?

The best FPL midfielders for a Gameweek 7 Wildcard

For once, it’s not coronavirus that looks the main danger to the availability of our Fantasy assets in the next Gameweek.

This time, it’s the late kick-off times/dates in South America.

Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Colombia, Ecuador and Uruguay – all of whom will be represented by at least one Premier League player – will have World Cup qualifiers taking place barely 36 hours before Gameweek 8 starts:

FPL PLAYERS/TEAMS POTENTIALLY AFFECTED
  • ASTON VILLA: Martínez (ARG), Luiz (BRA)
  • BRIGHTON: Sarmiento (ECU)
  • CHELSEA: Thiago Silva (BRA)
  • EVERTON: Mina (COL)
  • LEEDS: Raphinha (BRA)
  • LIVERPOOL: Alisson (BRA), Fabinho (BRA)
  • MANCHESTER CITY: Jesus (BRA), Ederson (BRA)
  • MANCHESTER UNITED: Fred (BRA), Cavani (URU)
  • NEWCASTLE: Almiron (PAR)
  • SPURS: Romero (ARG), Lo Celso (ARG), Emerson (BRA), Sanchez (COL)

Everton and Spurs are at least in action on the Sunday of Gameweek 8, giving the likes of Romero an extra day for recovery – although it’s still a swift turnaround.

As for the rest of the clubs above, there are mixed messages over whether their South American players will be available for the next round of Premier League matches.

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to face Watford in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off without Alisson (£6.0m) and Fabinho (£5.4m), while Manchester United are said to be resigned to being without Edinson Cavani (£8.4m) and Fred (£4.9m) for their trip to Leicester City.

Chelsea will also surely not call upon veteran Thiago Silva (£5.4m) at Brentford, given how carefully they have managed him from international returns in the past.

City, curiously, omit mention of the October 15 matches for Gabriel Jesus (£8.6m) and Ederson (£6.0m), however.

And the Yorkshire Evening Post claim that Marcelo Bielsa expects to have Raphinha (£6.5m) available for selection against Southampton – although a start may still be a tall order, even if he does make the matchday squad.

There is better news from North America.

Wolves previously confirmed that Raul Jimenez (£7.5m) would return from Mexico in time for Gameweek 8 (there is some debate over whether this means he will miss his country’s final game against El Salvador early on Thursday morning), while Ethan Pinnock (£4.6m) and Michail Antonio (£8.0m) won’t be representing Jamaica.

It’s hardly that outlandish given the fixtures, certainly not enough to warrant a sacking! I don’t think Semedo should be starting, but there’s no way I’m leaving Duffy on my bench this week. Sarr comes in for me if TAA is still out

Got to be 442 this week. I'd take Semedo out for your choice of Sarr/Gallagher. Sarr is on pens, new manager and more chance of an attacking return than Semedo (imo) Dont see wolves keeping a clean sheet.

                From the Sun
PREMIER League ace Yves Bissouma was handcuffed by cops and marched out of a nightclub in the early hours of yesterday.

                Thoughts on these moves?

                A) ASM/Grealish to Son/Armstrong

                B) Lukaku/Grealish to Vardy/Son?

I would do B and captain Son. I like both Son and Vardy and don't really rate Grealish as an FPL asset.

On a -4 atm but still have some dodgy picks for the GW ahead-
Alonso (rotation), Cancelo (rotation), Raphinha (Internationals), TAA (doubt), Tsimikas (2nd choice), Bissouma (possible arrest).

                  Would you consider WC'ing here?
There are several players I'd like to change to be honest in my overall squad both in and out.

                  Sanchez.
                  Alonso, Rudiger, Cancelo, TAA.
                  Salah, Raphinha, Gray.
                  Jimenez, Anto, Lukaku.
                  Bachmann, Benrahma, Bissouma, Tsimikas.
                  0.2m ITB, -4 taken already.

Your starting 11 is not too far off a WC team so I wouldn't. Wait on news as to whether TAA and Raphinha will miss GW8 because at the moment they are expected to be available. Alonso is a little dodgy but Benrahma off the bench is ok.

I would consider it but wait until the pressers as you could easily have an 11 there. In the meantime i'd get a draft mockup together and see how different it really looks. Thing is you will probably want TAA/Raph long term anyway so you're only really xferring out Alonso and fodder.

                  Salah 61% owned. Wow

Might set an EO record vs Watford

Antonio is pretty high with 45%

After Ronaldo (46%), Lukaku and Benrahma (37%), the template splits wide open and 30% becomes hard to reach. Choices, choices everywhere: from TAA's absences to multiple City options + Chelsea defenders + mid-priced and cheap assets everywhere, and no standout keeper so far

Bruno and Shaw are still holding onto the template via GW1 popularity, apparently. Might crash further + faster post-GW9 and be a good sign of dead teams

and with allison + fabinho likely missing i'm not convinced he's the must have captain (pool fan too)
no standouts really unless you can correctly pick the right City attacker vs BUR

Isn't that more of a problem for clean sheets than attack?

Fabinho and Alli don't exactly initiate our attacks. Heck, that was more of Matip in the City game, weirdly enough

Fullbacks and the mids on both sides of Fabinho concern me more... But Salah still thrived without TAA, in his toughest game possible this season

...and without Firmino too. The first half had me convinced the absences were too many, or something was just off

Klopp gave 'em a good shouting in the dressing room and they all came back to the pitch as a new team. Lovely stuff

I'm not concerned vs Watford, tbh. I see why, but I'm not

fair enough. maybe just justifies a reason to keep Sarr haha

Think Firmino starts as he's rested from Brazil and Salah typically performs better with him. Hard to resist his form but given the events of last week, you just know majority will captain him so a good chance for differential (risk v reward).

If it were at Anfield then no questions asked.

Both look really good and the former can easily outscore the latter. But I'm too afraid to go without Lukaku for those fixtures. Also Jesus might not paly next GW.

For now, Murphy - he had the RWB spot for the tail-end of last season and the beginning of this. Manquillo hasn't done badly and it looks like it's his spot to lose but Bruce is going back and forth from a back four to a wing-back system at present so plenty of uncertainty in the medium term. We've also got Krafth who can play at right-back, albeit not very well.

Jacob Murphy. Now they’re playing 4 at the back he seems to be nailed for the first 70/80 mins until they need a goal then Murphy gets subbed on. Not ideal but he’ll do for the 3rd bench spot

Is it Hwangs spot to lose now? 5.6 seems incredible value. Thinking of benching Traore and doing JoshKing > Hwang if King is ruled out.

To be fair, I am not even going for a double Chelsea defence. Opted for a double City instead, mainly due to their insane defensive numbers. I know Chelsea will catch up now that they have much easier fixtures. Can't go wrong with either of their defences to be fair! Still think having Lukaku is worth it though.

ive gone triple chelsea at the back with taa and cancelo and ederson in goal

My theory is that both chelsea and city could get at least 20 clean sheets this season out of the 31 games left ,
which mids can you rely on getting 20/31 returns at such a cheap cost? so ive filled my boots

it still allows me salah kdb raph and jota with hwang/st max upfront

luiz and hwang/st max on my bench

Correction - The *results* from going without have been "pretty decent" (as in it hasn't burned for a whopping 3 games

But don't confuse the decision's results with its' underlying logic

Someone who decides to walk across a busy motorway blinfolded and pissed out of their head can make it to the other side unscathed and can also say "the results from my decision were pretty decent so it must have been a good decision"

But do you really want to make a habit of walking across busy motorways, pissed out of your head and blindfolded?

He got injured and was sick - that's just luck

The guy has 88 returns and 83 baps in his last 101 league starts so I can't get my head around why anyone wouldn't want him in their team - it will end in tears - always does

People on the bus I'm riding home from work on at the moment all wondering why I'm cracking up with laughter.

Raphina has pretty much been a set & forget in my team this season but I've just had a look at the midfield stats on FPL and I was surprised to see him ranked only 16th in Total Points and not even in the top twenty for PPG. I think I've been hoodwinked by his Goal Attempts and I might just have to reassess his employment status.

Don't forget he's had fairly difficult fixtures up to now, whereas he now has a nice run ahead of him.

Stats don't lie but if you watch him play, you'll see that stats don't tell the whole story. He's always look like delivering at least 1 attacking return every game. And that stat is a result from a depleted Leeds atm.

As a non owner, I couldn't bare to watch him play. Always looking for the killer pass and room to hit a screamer. His ceiling in FPL is almost non existent. Can't wait to get him in gw10

He looks dangerous most games I’ve seen him play but you’re right he’s considered essential on here and has only scored 31 points whilst you have someone like Doucoure you barely hear much about on 43 points and 1million less

I remember Camzy posting very similar stuff after owning him for 2 blanks earlier in the season

Fast forward to last weekend and he’s gushing about how Raphinha is the boss

yea I also think he started slowly physically, I watched the first couple of games and he wasnt himself, you can tell he is just getting going ...hes last 2 games hes been back to his best and will start to get returns.

Son has done well when Kane has been in the team and when he hasn't; when spurs have been good and even when spurs have been trash. Him, Salah and Livra are the first names on my WC.

Definitely - they are ESSENTIAL for FPL, just like Mahrez was in GW1, or Torres was after GW3

Phil Foden the latest trap following his illustrious predecessors:

                          1. Mahrez (He has had a pre-season and Pep has to pick hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiim!!!)
                          2. Torres (He's only 7.0 and playing as a striker for the best team in the woooooooooooooorrrrrlllddd!!!)
                          3. Grealish (Pep picks him every game he is going to smaaaaaaasssssshhhh!!)
                          4. Foden (He scored against Liverpool and is uuuuuuunnnnnnnnrrrreaeaaaaaaaaaaaallll!!!!)

I have gone for a Foden punt, but as Maximus has said above - we never learn! I still like to have at least one riskier pick in my team which can bring some differential points. Just make sure you have a good bench to cover your City mid's no-shows.

Toney is nailed in my WC draft, 4th midfielder spot up for debate (will be 1st sub most of the time as I intend to go with a 4-3-3).

The template GW8 WC team, which is good. Nothing not to like.

To be more templatey, Raya can be Ramsdale

Struggling with this decision - Is this worth a -8 ?

                        Alonso Cr7 and Sarr out
                        Cancelo KDB Hwang in

                        currently on 400k OR Rank

Haven't taken a hit all season.
Also have Salah Lukaku and Antonio ( no Trent )

Nope. Can easily backfire. Keep FT if you can.

Mbappe to apply the assist to Wilson

Busy January transfer window for them. Probably better if they replace Bruce with Conte

Haaland to replace Wilson around the 60 minutes mark
