FPL Gameweek 8 team news: Alexander-Arnold and Jota expected to be available

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£7.6m) are expected to be available for Liverpool’s Gameweek 8 clash with Watford on Saturday.

Alexander-Arnold missed the Reds’ last two competitive fixtures before the October international break due to a groin problem, while Jota withdrew from Portugal’s national team squad on Monday having not kicked a ball for his country over the last week.

But both players are set to rejoin full training with their club colleagues ahead of the trip to Vicarage Road.

“They are all good, they are all in a good way, let me say it like this.

“So it looks really like Trent and Diogo will be fine, they will train with us tomorrow completely normal, that’s the plan.” – Jurgen Klopp, speaking on Wednesday about his side’s fitness

Both Liverpool players have hemorrhaged owners since Gameweek 7, with Alexander-Arnold the most-sold defender ahead of this Saturday’s FPL deadline and Jota fourth for transfers out among midfielders.

The right-back will surely return to the Liverpool starting XI this weekend if fully recovered but with Roberto Firmino (£8.8m) not involved with Brazil over the last fortnight, there is less certainty over whether Jota will be handed his fifth successive league start regardless of fitness.

The Saturday lunchtime contest is likely to come too soon for Thiago Alcantara (£5.3m), who has a calf problem.

“Thiago needs probably a little bit longer, [he] was not in team training yet – that’s always not a good sign for starting the next game.

“And the rest [of the] international [players], some are back, obviously some are not back yet. And we will see.” – Jurgen Klopp

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Harry Maguire (£5.4m) revealed he was “progressing” from a calf issue but had still not been involved in full training with Manchester United, which suggests that the Red Devils are set to be without both first-choice centre-halves for the trip to Leicester City.

The only official pre-match press conference of the day saw Claudio Ranieri on media duties for new employers Watford.

The Hornets earlier confirmed that Joshua King (£5.5m) would be assessed after a return to training but that Francisco Sierralta (£4.3m), Christian Kabasele (£4.4m) and Peter Etebo (£4.5m) remain out with muscle problems.

We should have a minimum of five pre-Gameweek 8 press conferences taking place on Thursday, with the rest following on Friday.

if you have the money, Azpi is def the safest option and does get attacking returns once in a while.

Jimenez looks like he’s going to start for Mexico in the early hours of tomorrow morning. Surely he won’t start for Wolves on Saturday? I’m thinking of benching him for Duffy or Livramento?

    Really tempted by Foden.

4 great fixtures for City before the next international week.

With Jesus likely to be unavailable, have to imagine Foden will start as the false 9 against Burnley.

He seems to be in the premier league 'starting' team right now, and whilst there's no certainty with Pep, you'd be surprised to see him not start at least 3 of the next 4 league fixtures.

He looks so threatening and City can cut loose in any game.

I'd be looking at an Everton mid, Saka perhaps, maybe Gallagher.

Bottom line, you don't want to transfer out someone not nailed for another non-nailed player, imo.

Fair point. The only reason why I'm even considering Torres is because he's upside is enormous. He should at least start 2 out of next 3. Saka is good also, Gallagher too. Everton on the other hand, will decline inevitably so I'm gonna avoid them.
            Cheers!

Ronaldo is by no means a bad hold and Traore has been a waste of time for a lot of us….but city could well put 5 past Burnley again so if you are trying to get in on that why not take the risk on a city mid staring? I love the KDB pick but feel ‘punting’ on Torres is more sensible.

Having double City defence, Cancelo and Dias is better than having to scratch your eyes out when Pep has too many toys in attack.

Pretty much the same situation with Tuchel and the CHE defence, too many toys to play with.

At least you know you will get regular points with Cancelo and Dias 😉

Risky- I think 50/50 between Chilwell and Alonso starting. And no guarantees Torres starts. I would just keep Alonso and Benrahma ( and am doing)

Raphinha owners- are you playing Raphinha in case jets in to Southampton and starts or benching and playing ( in my case Livramento). I guess worry is that he is not able to start but Bielsa brings him on late in game

All those saying Raph has a chance.. what you smokin’ dudes? No EPL footballer would play two games in consecutive days if they were at the same ground. So doing it with about 15h of travelling… not a chance he’ll play.

I reckon that would be the big teller. More so than the press conference.

Private jet = he plays (probably starts)

Standard commercial flights = doesn't start, possibly not even on the bench

Going to be very annoying if Bissouma drops! It just fecks around with my planned moves for GW9.

    Pick 1:

    1. Play Livremento
    2. Play DIas (-4)

      1. Dias probably gets 6 (-4) points- chance Livramento gets attacking return
