FPL Gameweek 8 team news: Alexander-Arnold and Jota expected to be available

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£7.6m) are expected to be available for Liverpool’s Gameweek 8 clash with Watford on Saturday.

Alexander-Arnold missed the Reds’ last two competitive fixtures before the October international break due to a groin problem, while Jota withdrew from Portugal’s national team squad on Monday having not kicked a ball for his country over the last week.

But both players are set to rejoin full training with their club colleagues ahead of the trip to Vicarage Road.

“They are all good, they are all in a good way, let me say it like this.

“So it looks really like Trent and Diogo will be fine, they will train with us tomorrow completely normal, that’s the plan.” – Jurgen Klopp, speaking on Wednesday about his side’s fitness

Both Liverpool players have hemorrhaged owners since Gameweek 7, with Alexander-Arnold the most-sold defender ahead of this Saturday’s FPL deadline and Jota fourth for transfers out among midfielders.

The right-back will surely return to the Liverpool starting XI this weekend if fully recovered but with Roberto Firmino (£8.8m) not involved with Brazil over the last fortnight, there is less certainty over whether Jota will be handed his fifth successive league start regardless of fitness.

The Saturday lunchtime contest is likely to come too soon for Thiago Alcantara (£5.3m), who has a calf problem.

“Thiago needs probably a little bit longer, [he] was not in team training yet – that’s always not a good sign for starting the next game.

“And the rest [of the] international [players], some are back, obviously some are not back yet. And we will see.” – Jurgen Klopp

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Harry Maguire (£5.4m) revealed he was “progressing” from a calf issue but had still not been involved in full training with Manchester United, which suggests that the Red Devils are set to be without both first-choice centre-halves for the trip to Leicester City.

The only official pre-match press conference of the day saw Claudio Ranieri on media duties for new employers Watford.

The Hornets earlier confirmed that Joshua King (£5.5m) would be assessed after a return to training but that Francisco Sierralta (£4.3m), Christian Kabasele (£4.4m) and Peter Etebo (£4.5m) remain out with muscle problems.

We should have a minimum of five pre-Gameweek 8 press conferences taking place on Thursday, with the rest following on Friday.

Am I G2G for this week then? Don't mind taking a risk on Rudiger/TAA starting as have a couple of decent playing sub fixtures.

Anyone think Ramsdale is a bad pick long term?

Surely Leno will play some games and you are never in a position to waste a FT on a GK

If I was WCing now I'd pick him but I'd get a £4.5m starter as back up keeper too, just in case he does get rotated.

If I was WCing now I would probably get Ramsdale and Guaita, so I knew that I'd have a starter to fill in if Ramsdale gets rested.

        Yeah great shout mate

It's a shame tying up 0.5m but probably worth it for security of starts

As an Arsenal fan we desperately need consistency. Can't see Leno starting anytime soon unless Ramsdale has a few bad games.

I agree but, for me anyway, I would cover my ass with a second starter just to be safe.

At the moment I have Meslier and Foster. I'm fortunate Foster has been starting, but the advantage with Meslier is that you know if he's fit he's going to play. Every game.

It gets a bit riskier in the land of the £4.5m keepers where a few mistakes can lead to long benchings.

Pretty sure Ramsdale will start as long as he keeps performing. Leno likely to be a cup keeper mostly this season.

    Options

    A) Mount and 1 CHE Def
    Or
    B) Foden and double Chelsea Def

      A

Foden looks like another City trap. Having already fallen for the Torres trap I cannot, in all sincerity, recommend that you go down that same path, no matter how good or nailed on you and others on here may think he is.

      D. Luiz to Brownhill removes one of the flags 😉 How often will you need D. Luiz anyway and Brownhill is as nailed an save you a 0.1. Maybe even 0.2 depending on when you bought Luiz.

            Be boring and keep Raph.

Can you find 0.4m from this? Everything gives only 0.3m.

            Ramsdale Foster
            TAA Cancelo James Duffy Livra
            Salah Son *Torres* Mbeumo Brownhill
            Lukaku Antonio Toney

I need 0.4m from somewhere. Every usual move only gives 0.3m.

            Duffy > Manquillo gives 0.3m.
            Toney > Armstrong gives 0.3m.
            Mbeumo > ESR gives 0.2m.

Antonio > Watkins gives 0.4m I suppose but is that a good move? I dunno... Missing that Son price rise is hurting at the moment ngl.

B*llocks I've just checked, my plan is ruined too. Really annoying.

I'd planned Mount and Torres before moving Torres to Raphi. 0.1 off now.

Saka and Foden might be an option. Or keeping Raphi and hope. Hmm, back to the drawing board.

          Sanchez-Foster

          White-Azpi-TAA-Taylor-R. James

          Brownhill-Salah-Harrison-Son-Townsend

          Pukki-Jimi-Lukaku

Bit of a punt on Pukki, but didn't want the Wolves double-up. I have Taylor as bench fodder & specifically GWs 10 & 12.

Happy that White/Townsend generally offer good cover if James doesn't play... Harrison is the only spot I'm feeling unsure about really.

Which pair scores more? Raph will be available for option 2 after GW8, and will cause benching headaches for option 1!

          Ramsdale Foster

I have some pondering to do for GW9 but at least GW8.

My plan is to get in Dias but it would mean downgrading Duffy to Omobamidele and Bissouma to Brownhill.

That would give me TAA, Dias and Cancelo as my back 3 with Livra 1st bench and only Brownhill as my other playing sub.

I could however do Matip to Chillwell for free and keep Duffy and Livra. Also Bissouma to D. Luiz which gives me a very solid bench.

What would be the best option?

Menu option (3 bars) and 3 dot options not working for me. On Android phone. Can't change to web version either.
Just me, or others having issue.
Means I can't change articles or see fixture ticker.
