Captains

Who is the best captain for FPL Gameweek 10?

Deputy Editor Tom and FPL Blackbox cost-host Az look at the best captaincy candidates for Gameweek 10 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in our weekly video.

You can watch it either in this article below or over on our YouTube channel.

Can we look past Mohamed Salah (£12.9m) given his sensational form? Brighton have been one of the better defensive sides this season but came unstuck against Manchester City at the weekend, and opposition scarcely seems to matter with the Egyptian anyway.

Over 80% of the voters in our captaincy poll think the decision is cut and dried, so Tom and Az have their work cut out in proposing alternative candidates.

There are some appealing matches elsewhere, however, with Chelsea up against a Newcastle United still without a clean sheet, free-scoring Manchester City on home soil against Crystal Palace and Leeds United away at a Norwich City side fresh from a 7-0 hammering at Stamford Bridge.

You can have your own say by casting your vote in our poll on the widget of our home page or below.

Don’t forget to check back for our Captain Sensible article later in the week, which will delve into even more detail on the main runners and riders.

Save FT? Or, Armstrong ➡ Toney and bench Livramento? 🙂

    Ramsdale
    TAA - Dias - James - Livramento
    Salah - KDB - Foden - ESR
    Vardy - Hwang

    Foster - Armstrong - Brownhill - Manquillo

Sitting at 70k, so pretty happy overall, but feel that Salah (C) papered over a lot of cracks last week and my squad needs an overhaul. Price rises also going against me atm.

Contemplating a -8 to switch Christensen, Benrahma, and Raphinha -> Chilwell, ESR, and Foden. Is that a bit drastic? I've got £1.6 ITB

    Sanchez
    Christensen - Cancelo - TAA - Livramento
    Salah - Sarr - Raphinha
    Kane - Jimenez - Antonio

Thoughts on Toney vs Hwang as 3rd striker. Both have decent fixtures, is it worth paying 0.8m more for Toney (on pens)

I have Armstrong to get rid off but only 0.4m itb so can’t afford Toney in one move. Will obviously await Raph news. Don’t own Mbuemo yet either

I think Hwang will score more in the Prem.

Mbuemo, when fit, looks the better Brentford option, but Toney isn’t bad. Hwang’s price probably putting some off, thinking he might not be nailed.

      1. Atimis
        • 7 Years

Jota for sure, I'm just afraid that he won't start many games so multiple cameos, also these one-pointers, are likely.

Jota usually gets decent minutes off the bench though and can get something. His ceiling is certainly worth it if he can pull 12 pointers against United.

I'd just hold and accept the odd benchings.

352 the way forward? A lot of midfield options at the moment e.g Salah, Son, Foden, Jota, Mount, Raph, Mbeumo, ESR / Saka.

Looking at the forwards Antonio / Toney are the only 2 I like until DCL is back.

Got 2 FT and if Ole is still in charge on Friday then Kane is definitely coming into my lineup. United are a joke right now and the longer Ole stays there the better it is for teams playing them.

Spurs may be mediocre but you’d have to fancy Kane and Son to do damage against a United team that doesn’t have a Scooby-Doo and can’t be arsed anymore.

Don't you think he's already lost the dressing room, though?

They looked like aa team going through the motions on Sunday, from what little I saw.

Spurs aren't great, but Son and Kane, if given the level of space Liverpool were afforded, can surely do some damage.

If the players want him gone and a 5-0 drubbing by Liverpool isn't enough to get rid of him (and that alone should be) then maybe a similar back to back woodshed beating by Spurs might do the trick?

Was kicking myself for getting Grealish over Foden last week and granted doing the opposite would’ve brought many more points but I just saw extended highlights and Grealish looked up for it against Brighton and it’s not like Foden knew all that much about his second goal…very easily could’ve been a game where Foden grabs 1G1A and Grealish 2A. Expecting Grealish to come good now the question is whether I double or not

But even without the goals, Fodens position, his involvement, his expected goals is far greater than what is being offered by Grealish. The only issue with Foden is over his security of starts.

Same here, I actually preferred Foden and was going to buy him as he’s more explosive but it was right after the international break where Foden played a lot more minutes and was worried he’d be rested. Still think Grealish will do well but think he’ll be rested as much as Foden. I’m thinking of keeping Grealish and selling Raphina for Foden, just wish we knew what Raphina injury is like.

This year FPL will be boring if everyone just captain mo salah. If you have 9 players from pool city chelsea, perma cap salah and fill the rest with cheap starters like livra toney you will finish top 50 k for sure.

Takes away some of the luck element of captain picks as an advantage and can focus on picking the right players elsewhere

Considering a risky -8 to switch Raphinha, Benrahma, and Christensen to Foden, ESR, and Chilwell. Have the exact funds atm but Chilwell and Foden both likely to rise before deadline. Worth it?

Will obv hold off for as long as possible before pushing the button.

Foden might be rested as they have ucl and Manchester derby ahead. Palace at home is a perfect match for benching. Christensen is a headache, but might start as he Didn't feature last match.

Christensen is heap enough to keep - either he plays and bags a cs, or bench player comes on

Yeah he has done ok for me. Just feel he has similar rotation threat to the full-backs but none of the upside.

Fair point on Foden, cheers. Might just do Christensen to Chilwell then with the FT. I guess the line-up for Chelsea tonight might be instructive on who is likely to start at the weekend (although more for the full-backs than the CB's)

Yes yes thank you all for the sarcastic comments 😉 There’s still a need to discuss other options, even if the end result is Salah though right? Got to do our jobs! Leave no stone unturned etc

I am sure people will consider other options soon if salah just blank 1-2 week.

After all that you haven't even included Maupay on the list.

Your piece is still insightful no matter if there seems to be a consensus on Salah(C). Thumbs up for good job!

    Any changes?

    Sa
    Azpilicueta, Chiwell, Cancelo
    Salah, Tielemans, Gray, Foden
    Vardy, Antonio, Hwang

    Gunn, Livramento, Semdo, Benrahama

TV is £100.9m with £2.8m in bank. Thinking Benrahama out next, i know he has 50pts, but recent form is dire.
