Digne injury latest as Jimenez impresses: FPL notes from Wolves v Everton

We continue our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek 10 Scout Notes with analysis of Wolverhampton Wanderers v Everton.

For a briefer summary of Saturday’s Premier League action, click here, while you can read up on some more matches in detail below.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS 2-1 EVERTON

  • Goals: Max Kilman (£4.5m), Raul Jimenez (£7.6m) | Alex Iwobi (5.8m)
  • Assists: Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.3m) | Michael Keane (£5.0m)
  • Bonus (projected): Jimenez x3, Keane x2, Iwobi x2

WOLVES BUILDING MOMENTUM

After tonight’s 2-1 win at Molineux, Wolves have now won four of their last five Premier League matches, drawing the other one, and are up to seventh in the table.

Despite a slow start which saw them lose their opening three games, they are now currently one of the form teams in the division, ahead of an appealing run of fixtures which sees them take on Crystal Palace (a), West Ham United (h), Norwich City (a) and Burnley (h) in the next four Gameweeks.

Striker Raul Jimenez (£7.6m) has now produced attacking returns in each of his last four starts, after calmly lobbing Jordan Pickford (£5.0m) in the first-half. However, it could have been more for the Mexican, as he hit the woodwork from a Nelson Semedo (£4.9m) cross, and ended the night with match-leading totals for goal attempts, shots in the box, big chances and penalty box touches.

Meanwhile, Hwang Hee-chan (£5.7m) had a goal ruled out by VAR, having been just offside, while he was also a little unfortunate not to bag an assist.

£4.3M AIT-NOURI ON CORNERS

In a lively and adventurous display down Wolves’ left flank, budget defender Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.3) supplied an assist for Max Kilman’s (£4.5) opener direct from a corner.

The youngster shared corner-taking duties with Joao Moutinho (£5.0m) on the night, and could become a real FPL asset if he nails down a starting spot ahead of Marcal (£4.5m), who was again absent through injury.

Elsewhere, Adama Traore (£5.9m) dropped to the bench after a quiet performance at Leeds United in Gameweek 9, with Francisco Trincao (£5.8m) replacing him in the starting XI, while Ruben Neves (£5.4m) also featured at the expense of Leander Dendoncker (£4.8m).

OUT OF SORTS EVERTON

Following last weekend’s 5-2 loss against Watford, Everton continue to look out of sorts and have now lost their last three Premier League games.

Tonight, they struggled from the off in a narrow 4-4-2 formation, with huge spaces regularly appearing in front of their back four. In response, they switched to a 4-5-1 just after the half-hour mark, with Richarlison (£7.8m) operating as their lone forward. That did at least stop the relentless pressure they were under, and signalled an improvement in the second-half, though it still wasn’t enough.

Notably, Wolves’ first goal arrived from a set-piece, which the Toffees are struggling to defend on a regular basis this season. In fact, they have now conceded 44 attempts from dead-ball situations, more than any other side bar Crystal Palace.

A mounting injury list, which already includes the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.5m) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£8.0m), is clearly taking its toll, then, with Lucas Digne (£5.2m) adding to their woes with a muscle injury which kept him out of tonight’s fixture. The 28-year-old France international will now be assessed, though it is unclear whether or not he will be fit for Everton’s next game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

“He was feeling a bit of discomfort so we left him out” – Rafael Benitez on Lucas Digne

With that fixture in mind, Harry Kane (£12.1m) and Son Heung-min (£10.2m) owners could be the next to profit from Everton’s shaky backline in Gameweek 11.

“It is a pity because we didn’t play in the first half. We had a lot of character and chances in the second half, it was maybe a little too late. That was the reaction we were expecting but it was just a shame we didn’t do it in the first half.

They were growing in confidence. We have to see what we did in the second half for 90 minutes. Obviously, we didn’t do it and that is where we have to improve.

We saw the character in the second half to react after a bad first half. I think we are close but missing the players that can make a difference.” – Rafael Benitez

Wolves XI: Sa, Kilman, Coady, Saiss, Semedo, Moutinho, Neves, Ait-Nouri, Trincao (Podence 79), Hwang (Silva 90+4), Jimenez (Dendoncker 90)

Everton XI: Pickford, Coleman, Holgate, Keane, Godfrey, Allan, Gbamin (Delph 45), Townsend, Iwobi (Gordon 78), Gray (Rondon 90), Richarlison

Anything worth doing here for roll the transfer, have a huge £4.6m itb:

    Sanchez, (Steele)
    James, Rudi, Cancelo, Duffy, (Livra)
    Salah, Raphina, Saka, Foden, (Benrahma)
    Jimenez, Vardy, (Archer)

    Some ideas
    A) Sanchez > Ramsdale
    B) Cancelo/Duffy/Livra > TAA/Chilwell
    C) Benrahma/Saka > Son/Gallagher/Mount
    D) Archer > Wilson/Toney
    E) Vardy > ?

Really?! Raph has been unlucky with international travel. He has 3 goals in his last 5 starts. Mbuemo 2 in 4 before his injury, and that's not withstanding him hitting the post against Chelsea. Definitely in form...

Definitely wouldn't wc that, I feel at this point if you still have your wc the aim is to hold it until the second wildcard so that you can really make use of the doubles and blank later in the season.

That team isn't in bad shape. Id look to do Alonso >James/Chilwell based on CL minutes this week or if Alonso likely to start then upgrade Tanganga or Amartey.

    Thoughts please

    Ramsdale
    TAA James Cancelo
    Salah Foden Raphinha ESR
    Vardy Antonio Toney

    Foster Dias Livra Brownhill
    2ft, 1.3itb

No pressing moves this week but don't want to lose a ft so might move for Son or Kane now instead of waiting for GW12

    A) Dias, Vardy ➡️ Chilwell, Kane
    B) Dias, Raph ➡️ 3.9 def, Son
    C) Brownhill, Vardy ➡️ Son, 4.5 fwd
    D) ESR, Vardy ➡️ Son, Hwang
    E) Dias ➡️ Chilwell
    F) Dias, Foden, Vardy ➡️ 3.9 def, Son, Kane (would have to play one of ESR or Livra every week)

    Thanks in advance

Probably just E for me. Then can assess Spurs assets come GW12 once we've seen how Conte will set up. Worth remembering wingbacks have always done very well under Conte's 3-5-2 system so may even want Reguilon in the near future.

For those considering one between Gallagher/Mbeumo/ESR - Gallagher already on 3 YCs, 2 away from suspension (Mbeumo 4 away, ESR 5). Just something to keep in mind as most of us are looking at them as long-term options.

I'm considering the bench boost this week, as it's very hard to decide who to bench. Worth a go?

    Ramsdale
    Taa, Tierney*, rudiger, Duffy
    Salah, Saka, Sarr
    Kane, Pukki, Antonio

    Bench: Sanchez, Livramento, Gallagher, Gray
    1FT, 2.8 ITB

I know the 'standard' method is to use the BB after wildcarding into a DGW, but in my 5 years of playing this has maybe gone well once. The benchings around DGWs, the fact that you need 15 fit players to maximise the BB chip plus you have to compromise a wildcard makes this tactic slightly flawed imo. This week I have a full squad, which probably won't last for long, combined with my fringe players all having ok fixtures.

Would use my FT to do Tierney out, maybe to Semedo as he looked good last night and has a nice fixture run. This move needs to happen anyway with Arsenal's fixture's turning next week, so I don't see it as a wasted move to maximise a BB.

I would say around 20 points is good for BB so if you think you can get that this week, go for it. One advantage of leaving it till later in the season is you will have a higher team value so potential for better quality players on the bench. Personally, I would wait.

Go for it. Similar situation myself.

DGW bench boosting isn't always as good as it sounds with the squad rotations

I would wait. The minimum you should expect from a bench boost is 15.

What would you expect from this bench?

    4. Tonyawesome69
      • 5 Years

Quite a lot of the teams are setup with strong bench options so I can see the attraction of BB but rotation seems to be an issue at the moment. Doing it during DGW does give you that extra fixture security.

My team doesn't have the City/Chelsea rotation risks that many do. Duffy is the only concern really

Yeah I was just giving a general answer. Tbh looking at your team and if you replace Tierney with a nailed player for this weekend then I don't see any rotation issues. Just keep an eye for any injuries and BB could be a good option this GW for you.

      I am also considering it.
It’s a chip which is a bit of nuisance later in the season because you’re trying to fit in players that will play plus wildcarding.

    1. Benrahma -> ESR/Gallagher. (Vardy -> Kane the following week).
    2. Vardy-> Toney/Jesus. Toney frees up lots of cash for mid upgrades the week after. Son in for example.
    3. Save FT and do 2/3 moves over IB.

    Salah, Raphinha, Benrahma.

I am using the Bench boost this gameweek:

    Ramsdale
    TAA - Cancelo - Chilwell - Livramento
    Salah - Raphina - ESR - Mahrez
    Toney - Vardy

    Gunn - Antonio - Duffy - Gallagher

Depending on who starts for Man City, I’m looking to bring in either
    A) Trossard for Mahrez
    B) Maupay for Antonio.

    Which is better pick?
    Also Gunn for Sanchez.

A - Livramento is a really good 4th/5th cheap playing def option and a season keeper but if you fancy changing the structure of your team then going James is a good option.

Not a million miles from the situation I've just posted about...

Personally I defintiely want to hold two FTs for the international break so I would rule out option C. Also think B is a bit sideways at this moment in time, and I believe Dias can come good in the near future. I'm potentially thinking Armstong to Broja just for the funds, but waiting on Broja news. Like Armstrong, he would be almost permanently benched so as long as it's not a long term injury that's probably what I'll do....

        Very similar predicaments!

Broja a good option to free up some funds and means can get Kane for 1FT, either him or put out whatever fires pop up over the week.

        Cheers

Getting either Son or Kane for GW12 is justifiably a popular play at the moment... but I'm not sure I see a good way to do it with my team. If I go for Son then it will take three moves and require ditching Raphinha, Dias and (not such an issue) Armstrong. Seems like a lot of disruption for one player. Vardy to Kane is much easier, I can do it in two moves, but Vardy has nice fixtures as well, with the exception of Chelsea... I'm not desperate to ditch him. Should I just wait and see how Spurs get on?

    Foster Ramsdale
    TAA Cancelo Dias James Livra
    Foden Salah Raph Mbeumo Brownhill
    Vardy Jimenez Armstrong

    1m ITB

    Thanks!

I think the rush for TOT assets is a little premature. TOT are awful. How much that is down to Nuno we will find out. By GW15 at home to NOR we should have some data that can inform us.

but wouldnt that be too late? Their best fixtures are next 5, after which its not that smooth.

Wait and see how Kane/Son do this weekend with Conte.

Yes that is my plan. I 'have' to make a transfer this week (obviously I don't have to, I could burn it if I really don't see anything) so just trying to think of something that keeps my options open for my next moves. Waiting on Broja news to see if Armstrong>Broja is worth doing... but I really liked the look of Armstrong at the weekend and don't particularly want to bin him off just yet.

I agree, I don't think losing Armstrong is the right play even though there is uncertainty with him starting when Broja is back. Since you have 2FTs, I would consider downgrading 1 of your City defenders for funds so you are ready to jump on Son or Kane in GW12

I'd play Vardy this week for sure. Then think about it over the break, but I'd seriously consider Vardy to Kane for GW12. There's no point waiting until GW15 like the poster below says, you want to be on it at the start of the run, not the end.

Oh yes, I am definitely playing Vardy this week. I guess after this GW I'll have a clearer idea/feeling for what I want to do next

I am determined to get some returns out of the Cancelo/Dias double up after getting them on WC three weeks ago... however I do already have James. Not sure I'd be able to resist dumping either Dias or Cancelo if I didn't have any Chelsea wing back action going on. Maybe see how Chelsea line up for their champions league game and then have another think about it....

Just had a terrible week, which single-handedly set me back nearly 50 points off my nearest rival. Do you think this team needs surgery?

    Sanchez
    Trent Rudiger Livra (White Semedo)
    Salah Jota Foden Raphinha Sarr
    Vardy Antonio

    A) Jota/Sarr (depends on the Liv midweek lineup) to ESR?
    B) add Semedo > James to that for a hit (0.1 short of doing this for free)?
    C) save and reevaluate with 2 FTs after IB?
