The minutes played by FPL players over the November international break

The final international break of 2021 reached its conclusion in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Over 200 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) assets were in action for their countries over the last week and there will be inevitable repercussions in Gameweek 12, given the impact on starting XIs immediately after the September and October international breaks.

Our Team News tab and our Friday press conference round-up (in both article and video form) will cover everything on the fitness front but it is fatigue we’re focusing more on in this article as we look at how many minutes each FPL asset clocked up while on international duty.

How much ‘tiredness’ will be a factor in Gameweek 12 is open to debate, as the triple-headers of earlier international breaks are now mostly a thing of the past and juggling two games in a week comes second nature to many Premier League players. With 10 Gameweeks now to come in the space of 40 days, however, any national team game-time going into this period may come into top-flight managers’ medium-term thinking when weighing up whether or not a player needs a breather.

As well as on-field exertions, long-haul flights back from further afield may be a consideration ahead of the weekend – although much less so than in October, when South American nations were in action on the Friday morning before Gameweek 8.

Indeed, Brazil and Argentina were instead facing off late on Tuesday evening this time, given the Premier League representatives in question additional days to make their way back to the UK and recuperate.

Raul Jimenez (£7.7m) was the last notable FPL name in action, representing Mexico in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

MOST MINUTES PLAYED OVER THE NOVEMBER INTERNATIONAL BREAK

A trio of academy products – Carney Chukwuemeka, Dane Scarlett and Aaron Ramsey – were the only ‘active’ FPL assets who logged more than three hours of pitch-time, thanks to England under-19s having three fixtures over the last week.

Onto more significant names and there were 42 players who lasted 180 minutes across their respective nations’ matches, including Shane Duffy, Cristiano Ronaldo, Jimenez, Ismaila Sarr, Aymeric Laporte and Andreas Christensen.

Son Heung-min, Kevin De Bruyne and Hwang Hee-chan were only a little further back on 178, 173 and 172 minutes respectively.

Happily, many of the most popular Fantasy picks had a relatively easy ride. Of the 15 highest-owned assets in FPL, only Duffy and Ronaldo started more than one game for their homeland in the November international window.

CLUB-BY-CLUB ROUND-UP

The team-by-team guide below breaks down the minutes that each player has played per international match over the last week or so, with a total given at the end.

The players listed exclude those who withdrew from their national team squads without kicking a ball but include those who played at least one match before picking up an injury or illness or dropped out for personal reasons. The latter group of players are marked with an asterisk.

As mentioned earlier, we’ll have further details on any lingering fitness concerns in our pre-Gameweek 12 team news round-up on Friday.

Jota over Foden is the big call here, only you can make it. (Could allow an upgrade in forwards maybe,)

It's solid, I can't tug at any particular piece without unravelling the entire fabric. Let's say that it's as OK as we mortals are able to glimpse ahead. Good luck this GW!

Ramsdale is being hyped after keeping clean sheets in some of the easiest fixtures for a goalkeeper, then 8 saves to keep out the only good attack he's kept out this season. This tells me his points are skewed heavily, just like the conversation about keeping Sanchez for the season after he did well in a good fixture run, only for that to unravel soon after

I'd pick the keeper playing for the league's second-best defence after City, coming out of one of the worst fixture runs in the league, and has a great fixture run that extends to GW20 (or GW26 if you bring Foster in for GW23): Guaita

Other than that, Gallagher for fixtures. I prefer 4-3-3 but I'd probably change your whole team with that, yet I'll ask this: what's your CR7 GW16 to GW27 plan?

thanks mate appreciate your feedback, was kind of jumping on rams bandwagon but perhaps ill go with Guaita and FOster as my GKs..

I think im gonna go with Gallagher instead of ESR... so the final question is my CR7 plan.. no clue yet! What would you suggest?

Livra or mbeumo for the final spot in my first 11.

I was all set on Livra as they play Norwich but the talk seems to be okay mbeumo first

I don’t own either (got Toney) but if your not going to play Mbuemo vs Newcastle there seems to be little point in having him.

Other than (C) Salah, there's one other important lesson I've learned this season

After the brutal GW10 lesson, I've been picking my attacking full/wing backs first, before the rest of the XI. So, any attacking defender playing for a good defence with an okay to great fixture starts for me, before I look at my attackers

This way, Livra isn't even in the conversation. He's one of the first names in my XI. Attackers need a goal or assist to match Livra's floor vs the league's worst team

I agree with this. I am selling Raphinha so I suppose it doesn't come into the equation but I've had Livramento in my starting line-up as one of the first players I was picking this week and even if I had to keep Raphinha (due to injuries or other issues) it was staying that way. At the minute Rudiger is dropping out, but if it wasn't him it could have even been another attacker. Soton have only conceded in 3 of the last 8 and well Norwich are Norwich. I do expect a reaction being under a new manager of course, but it's still the same team and he only has a few days with them, and he said himself that he wants to ensure they're better defensively so I'd think that he might focus on that and hope to nab something on a counter at most rather than try take the game to Soton.

Yeah. I had Vardy on my bench before I sold him for Jesus when I realised Everton is in the kind of statistically seductive mood that Man U was in before meeting Liverpool

Now it's Gallagher on my bench. IDC. Livra starts vs Norwich in GW12 of this season. even if he blanks, a "mistake" I'll repeat many times over. Maybe the mistake is starting Son or Antonio; definitely not that untouchable TAA Cancelo Chilwell James Livra backline or the City attackers or Salah

That's a tough one to be fair, you have a much better bench than me (Rudiger Allan Llorente currently). It's very hard to know, Antonio hasn't been involved in the goals lately but he's capable of exploding at any point, Gallagher has a very nice fixture and I'd expect him to be very threatening but who knows if Milivojevic or even Eze come back into the fold this weekend and impact his ability to get forward. I was looking at Soton's fixtures and think I'll be playing Livramento a fair bit less in the coming weeks (injuries aside) so it might be a one week thing, hopefully it works out for you

Yeah. Gallagher's the one I'm least expecting a haul from this GW, although just slightly so. His last goal took a kind deflection too, so I don't count it for much. Would be nice off the bench if a City boy is dropped (possibly Foden, with KDB false 9 and Grealish LW), with Hwang second sub and Brownhill third

Good luck to you too 🙂

I have Livra over Mbeumo but will likely play both and bench Rapha instead. Can't see him doing well this week and I'll kick myself if I bench Mbeumo in the one GW where he manages to hit the target

There isn't even a good argument yet for owning him. Stats say no, eye test says no, points per match scream no, Son's points so far vs him in the same team say no

How are we stretching to captaincy when Salah exists?

There is room for more than just stats to make FPL decisions sometimes though

We're talking about last season's Golden Boot winner and top assister playing under a new manager against a team that tends to concede heavily against the 'big six'

        1. Ze_Austin
          • 5 Years
          2 years, 5 months ago

Yes, which is why some are owning him with the HOPE that it translates to points, even though Spurs under Conte just created 0 big chance and scored no small chance vs the team that's conceded the most big chances in their last 4 matches

The hope is that Ndombele or Lo Celso starts. Spurs' problem isn't solved by a new manager bounce, but a lack of creativity down the middle

Nowhere near enough basis for a captaincy debate. Why not Cancelo or Foden, pray tell?

          1. Ze_Austin
            • 5 Years
            2 years, 5 months ago

            *but a return of creativity

Kane was that creativity under Mourinho. He's being pushed up now, waiting for balls from wingbacks who aren't good enough at creating. It's a mess, and I do hope Lo Celso or Ndombele starts, although they aren't world-beaters themselves anyway. This is the hope, combined with fixtures, which makes me hold Son

Not a captain. Not until I see that creativity. Again, their performance Everton was a huge disappointment, as Everton was still awful in that match

There'll be the argument that there wasn't enough training time, but I'd point out that there still wasn't enough training time over the international break either, as the core of that team played for their countries

its between Son & Foden for me, that's only really because i'm an Arsenal fan and i never cap anyone against them so no Salah for me, i'm leaning more towards Foden as i can see City doing a demolition job this weekend, weather he even starts or not is another matter

Exactly my scenario as well. Don't want to cap Salah this week due to the same reason, and my other two choices are the same, Son and Foden. Foden looks tempting, but given he may not start either, may go Son.

So I've already made my two FT this week and brought in Jesus & Jota for Vardy & Gray, do I need to take a -4 here to maybe shift Sanchez for another keeper, or move Rudiger away to a playing bench fodder so I can start Livra against Norwich? Don't like benching ESR in current form but would rather play Jota/Jesus.

    Steele
    TAA - Rudiger - Cancelo - TAA
    Salah - Son - Jota
    Antonio - Jesus - Toney

    Sanchez - Livra - ESR - Sissoko

Honestly, I just fancy him to start scoring well, it's more of a punt than anything but significantly cheaper than Vardy who always brings me nothing but disappointment. Vardy will probably bag a hatty at the weekend so don't follow me in my footsteps, City look like they're starting to tick again and Jesus won't lose his place anytime soon (Imo)

Like the Jesus punt, had a look yesterday and was surprised to see he has around 10% ownership but I think he's a nice option, think I'll be tempted with a City triple-up alongside Cancelo and Foden in a few weeks

Id say he's fine, didn't play for Brazil the other night, and Pep has been a bit more settled with his selections of late, Jesus has been excellent since he's moved to RW. I suppose he will have to rotate a bit at some point but I'd be surprised if it's now

Two big games next week (PSG & West Ham), I'd imagine pep will start his weaker (if there is such a thing) front 3 against a very poor Everton side, just my opinion.

Tough call, I am playing both but if I had to choose I would start Mbeumo because of Newcastle's inconsistent defensive performance and Brentford needed a good score.

On the other hand I still think Jimenez will abuse WHU weak defense in a high-scoring game.

A: White to James (LEI vs CHE) this week, D Luiz to Jota next week
B: D Luiz to Jota (LIV vs ARS) this week, White to James next week
C: Do both for -4 this week and Mbeumo (NEW vs BRE) goes to the bench

              |I was thinking the same earlier this week but now thinking James upside this week is higher then Jota. Plus James price is rising again this week....decisions, decisions.

          Salah • Foden • Jota • Mbeumo

I think I would do both for free.
After that it’s looks really good except for Vardy and the 2 Brentford ones.
Downgrading Vardy to upgrade Brownhill is an option to get Son.
Or else Vardy to Jesus with Dias gone would allow for some nice upgrades of the 2 * Brentford

          a) Vardy + Saka to Wilson/Wood + Son
          b) Vardy + Jimmy to Kane/Ronaldo + Wood
