Watford v Man City team news: Foden, Gundogan and Grealish return

After some underwhelming Fantasy returns in the first four Gameweek 15 fixtures of the day, there is a real chance for owners of Manchester City players to steal a march on those going without any this evening.

Pep Guardiola’s troops are away at Watford, who are now the only club without a clean sheet in 2021/22.

Kick-off at Vicarage Road is at 17:30 GMT.

There aren’t any real shocks with the two teamsheets, despite Pep Guardiola making five changes from the midweek win over Aston Villa.

Jack Grealish makes his first City start in a month, while Kyle Walker, Aymeric Laporte, Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden are all recalled after missing out through injury or suspension on Wednesday.

Guardiola’s pre-match comments about Foden, released from embargo on Friday evening, did plant a seed of doubt about whether the England international would feature from the off but he’s thrown straight back into the action tonight.

Nathan Ake, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fernandinho, Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus make way from the starting XI, with the latter’s demotion to the bench perhaps the closest thing to an eyebrow-raising decision from the unpredictable City boss.

Watford’s team news is much more straightforward, with Claudio Ranieri making just the one change from the side that began the 2-1 loss to Chelsea on Wednesday. It’s an expected one, too, as Danny Rose comes in for the injured Adam Masina at left-back.

GAMEWEEK 15 LINE-UPS

Watford XI: Bachmann, Femenia, Troost-Ekong, Cathcart, Rose, Louza, Dennis, Cleverley, Sissoko, Pedro, King.

Subs: Elliot, Ngakia, Morris, Gosling, Fletcher, Tufan, Kabasele, Hernandez, Kucka.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Cancelo, Dias, Laporte, Walker, Gundogan, Rodri, Grealish, Silva, Sterling, Foden.

Subs: Steffen, Carson, Stones, Ake, Jesus, Zinchenko, De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Mahrez.

If you have not yet used your wildcard, on what GW are you planning to use it?

    A: 16
    B: 17
    C: 18
    D: 19
    E: 20

E I reckon (well, just up to the cut off). Ditch Salah and maybe get a second playing keeper

Probably a popular question, Raph to Bowen or Bernardo?

I’d go Silva and I’ll have both before next GW

Both are good options. I prefer Bernado because he plays for the better team who score way more goals.

I also have Antonio so I’m hoping that ‘covers’ WHU attack but I don’t like phrasing it that way haha. I can get Bowen in by GW18

    How's this wildcard looking?

    Ramsdale Dubravka
    TAA Cancelo James Livra Dier
    BSilva Maddison Jota Salah Mount
    Dennis Antonio 4.5
    2.3ITB

    Any changes needed?

For 4.5 I was thinking he'll get some clean sheets under Conte. Probably just stay on the bench most weeks though

Not keen on a non playing forward. You'll need a full bench over Xmas imo. Why keeping 2.6 in the bank ?

So when are people planning on making transfers this week? I presume the popular picks like Bsilva/Jota/Bowen will all rise either today or tomorrow, so will you be making moves early or waiting due to possible European match injuries

I’d have thought people would’ve learned from the Chilwell debacle - as well as all the other midweek / late injuries over the years - but apparently not.

If you ask this question at this time of the week, you'll get a biased sample of largely people who are willing to make a transfer before European fixtures.

I hope to wait until at least Wednesday night, although really only Chelsea out of the UCL teams have not yet secured top of their group, so the others will likely rest key players. West Ham are also guaranteed top of their Europa League group already.

Origi would be ideal back up to Kane can play on the wings.

Funny part was I briefly thought about getting him before this gameweek (because I figured he might get gametime over Christmas). But I said - no it would block up a Liverpool spot and I got Jota instead!

I am still leaning towards wanting Foden over Bernardo.
I think City can cover in midfield better than they can the attack (Ferran Torres' injury) and Foden should be the one closer to goal,

    Thoughts, on this?

    1. Gabbiadini
      • 6 Years
      2 years, 4 months ago

I should've probably done Mbeumo to B Silva this week, however, I wanted to have a look with Foden back in the side.

    2. BeWater
      • 3 Years
      2 years, 4 months ago

I agree. Foden's underlying numbers are good. I compared their per 90 data and Foden is better in every category bar goals. Silva wins that by 0.52 to 0.39.

        • 6 Years
        2 years, 4 months ago

        Yes, it is difficult.
I'm fairly sure Pep commented re Bernardo needing a rest the other week but then also stated how he is so integral.

yes, the price difference + too the rises are the kicker.
The ownership of Foden v B Silva is also a factor. B Silva is performing extremely efficiently.

I went Jota before this gameweek - and I am slightly regretting it. Out of your three options above I would pick Foden,
As long as you have a decent first sub in case he does not start.

McCarthy reportedly tore his hamstring during the game yet didn't notify the coaching staff re. the severity of it.

The coaching staff were led to believe that it only prevented his long kicking and thus kept him on the pitch with Lyanco (the CB) sometimes taking the kick-out.

When in actual fact he couldn't jump and thus he called for JWP to run back when the freekick was taken to protect the side of the goal and in doing so completely plays Maupay onside after it rebounds into the wall.

A scathing response from Hasenhuttl post game.

Brighton also had 10 men on the pitch for the last 10 minutes due to Trossard's injury, the same scenario as last week against West Ham and the same result.

                    Sanchez (Steele)
                    TAA - Cancelo - James - (White - Livra)

                    Is Son + Gallagher -> Bowen + Bilva/Foden a solid move?

Gives me bank for CR7 or a Utd asset if one emerges as a decent option.

Honestly I’m gonna stop looking at FPL statistics on a Saturday evening. Obviously the players you like are due to rise and it’s always tempting to make rash decisions. Especially when you’ve had a bad day. Putting the phone down now.

I have used every bit of my money - I had to keep an eye on things to get the players I wanted. Normally I work backwards from a a 6-8 gameweek plan. It looks like it did not work this week though.

Being aware of fplstatistics is a blessing and a curse. Many people treat team value as a game within the game.

                    TAA Cancelo Alonso
                    Salah Jota Raphinha Mbeumo
                    Kane Antonio Jimenez

                    Foster Brownhill Livramento Williams

If Alonso is out, I think a hit is necessary. I was thinking maybe Alonso, Raphinha, Jimenez > James, Foden, King for -4?

Agreed.. BSilva or Foden is the big call there

                        Strongly considering Bowen too.

Seems sensible. In theory you should get your -4 back at least over the Christmas.

Thinking Rap / Mbeumo / Alonso to BSilva / Maddison / Johnson.. for -4

Will do it tomorrow to see how United do, but thinking I want to avoid rises and will take a gamble with most of the big guys already through in Europe.

Any word on the Johnson injury?

I like it. No updates on Johnson injury yet. Shame as he was looking a great budget option for those upcoming fixtures

Who would you rather have for the foreseeable future?

                    A) Dennis
                    B) Antonio

Thanks. Yes, I have Antonio, and was looking to free up some funds.

Dennis short term (starts over Christmas then could be off to ACON)

Antonio long term (Great fixtures but his minutes are likely to be managed over Christmas)

Not a fan of brining in a player for 2gws. Especially a city player with rotation risks

I know. The patterns shows Jesus should play the next 2. I was also thinking about Lukaku eariler but not so sure how much ready will he be. So maybe just go for Antonio right now.
