West Ham v Norwich team news: Cresswell returns as Soucek misses out

The curtain finally comes down on Double Gameweek 21 this evening, 11 days after it started.

The 10th match of the Gameweek sees West Ham United play host to Norwich City, with kick-off in east London at 19:45 GMT.

Hammers manager David Moyes has made three changes to his starting XI from the 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day, two of which are enforced.

Said Benrahma is away at the Africa Cup of Nations and Tomas Soucek misses out altogether, while Ben Johnson is benched.

The fit-again Aaron Cresswell, Nikola Vlasic and Pablo Fornals all start in their places.

Norwich boss Dean Smith has made twice as many alterations from the Canaries’ last league outing, which was also against Palace a fortnight ago.

Tim Krul, Grant Hanley, Milot Rashica, Teemu Pukki, Brandon Williams and Max Aarons are back in a stronger-looking starting XI after injury and illness hit Norwich hard over Christmas.

Billy Gilmour is out with an ankle injury, while Angus Gunn, Sam Byram, Jacob Sorensen, Christos Tzolis and Dimitris Giannoulis are all on the bench.

        Lanzini's last goal before GW21 was in GW15. Benrahma's off to AFCON. Soucek has scored thrice this season (1 more goal than Lanzini before GW21)

        Beyond Bowen and Antonio (who was only just recovering form), it was hard to pick a third West Ham attacker without hindsight

        And then, defenders were light for GW21. Fixtures and form looked badly matched. And, true to the expectation, there have only been two clean sheets so far in DGW21. So, many FPL managers had more space for their 3rd West Ham player to be a defender (many needed to replace James, for instance) than an attacker, with many more viable attackers than defenders available from other teams

        Is it odd?

          I used foresight and looked at heat maps and field position.

          Not just stats.

          Including games played.

          Lanzini, Bowen and Antonio but tbf just Lanzini on the ft last week so it was straight forward enough.

            Lanzini was a punt based on what you had seen, not a clear target that filled a need for most teams: as I said, only two clean sheets in the whole of DGW21. People had more need for a defender facing Norwich than an attacker with no contribution to his team's 6 goals in his last 4 matches, especially with many other good assets in FPL midfield (Salah, Jota, Son, City, Arsenal, Mount, Raphinha) who would have been more difficult to sell than James

            Yes, it worked for you. But I do not agree that it was odd for others. Do you see my point now?

    I am thinking of using my Bench boost to cover my transfer hits this double gameweek. Is this foolish? I am also probably close to wildcard after AFCON, so now I don't need to load my bench completely with all starters. Probably only need two to survive covid ridden season.
    Thoughts?

      That's an interesting idea. BB can be a real bonanza or 6 to 9 points. The upside is that you can skew your squad so all the available dosh is loaded onto the important players. Very open to injuries/bad luck/covid etc though.

    Some lessons to be learned these last few weeks.

    Hold your chips until march when there will be more double game weeks and the fixtures will be more nailed due to covid dying down.
