FPL Double Gameweek 23 Scout Picks: Watford double-up and De Bruyne selection

We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Double Gameweek 23 ahead of today’s 18:30 GMT deadline.

We line up in a 3-4-3 formation and, as ever, are limited to an £83.0m budget for our starting XI.

Our four substitutes, meanwhile, are always chosen from the budget crop of players.

GOALKEEPER

 1

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jose Sa (£5.2m) is our chosen goalkeeper in Double Gameweek 23, ahead of a favourable away fixture at Brentford. The 29-year-old is FPL’s highest-scoring keeper and this week he’ll be up against a Bees’ side struggling for goals, with just four across their last six matches. Bruno Lage’s rearguard have been in excellent form in recent weeks, with Sa’s nine saves against Southampton last time out a prime example of just how crucial he is for Wolves.

DEFENDERS

The best FPL defenders for a Gameweek 4 Wildcard 5

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4m) sits second overall for FPL points, with last weekend’s assist against Brentford making him the first defender in Premier League history to register 10 or more in three separate seasons. The England full-back has produced either a goal, assist or clean sheet in 14 of his 19 appearances in 2021/22, and now takes on a Crystal Palace side that has conceded 75 crosses from their left-flank across their last six matches, compared to just 48 on the right.

It's looking like I will be going into this GW with 9.6m in the bank. Pretty sure that's a record for me.

Um, er, play up damp squib of a DGW!

King/Dennis as I don't really want to take a hit to captain a SGW player, even though he is much better than the Watford options. Even if they only get the Norwich game they should do OK.

Ronaldo to King a good move?

Already have Dennis (c). If I roll transfer I’d take ronaldo out next week for salah funds.

So basically who scores more points this week.

    A)Ronaldo
    B)King

Already have King and can't bring myself to double up on Watford by selling CR7 for Dennis. As such pretty sure I am going Bruno to KDB. Would you play the double and captain King or stick with KDB?!

Do y'all expect Emerson Royal to start for Spurs against Chelsea?

    My backline is:

    A) Sell Ronaldo for Dennis (C), 8m ITB to get Salah for Mount next week
    B) Sell Antonio -> Dennis (C), bench Mount and sell Ronaldo/Mount -> 9m striker + Salah next week for -4
    C) Save FT, play Ronaldo and Mount

Fairly settled on this WC - opinions greatly appreciated:

    Sa
    TAA, Cancelo, Robertson, Laporte
    KDB, Fernandes, Raphinha, Bowen
    Watkins, Dennis

    (Foster, Digne, Broja, Ramsey)

$ ITB for Fernandes -> Salah.

    Cheers!!

Not tempted by Coutinho or Jota? I’d downgrade Robertson and upgrade a midfielder. We’re not keeping clean sheets compared to previous seasons

      1. Torres76
        • 14 Years

Plus most of the assists are coming from TAA. Robbo can also be rested for Kostas and has been this season

        1. Catastrophe
          • 13 Years

I think Robertson is a great option to be honest. Barring his suspension after Spurs his last 10 scores:

          12
          9
          2
          8
          5
          7
          12
          1
          0
          6

Bench is pretty strong too, so quite well equipped for any rotation (I think!)

      2. Catastrophe
        • 13 Years

Cheers. Will wait and see re: Coutinho - Ramsey looks a steal at his price so can't justify the extra for Cout (yet) and would give me a big benching headache. I can get Jota in, but it would mean a bench of Digne, Idah and Amartey (!). I don't really want to lose/downgrade any of the others.

Saka or Trossard to de Bruyne for free - YES or NO?

All 3 have solid fixtures on paper and could potentially score similar points. Southampton are unbeaten at home since September and haven't conceded more than 2 goals at St. Mary's Stadium so far.

Hope everyone has had a nice lunch. 2FT & 1.1m ITB here.

    DDG
    TAA Cancelo Alonso
    Son* Jota Maddison Bowen
    Ronaldo Antonio King

    Steele / Gray Regulion Livramento*

    A) Son/Ronaldo > KDB/Dennis
    - Allows straight move of Maddison > Salah next week, perhaps
    - Wary selling Ronaldo before BUR.
    - Still has Alonso/Livramento, will force a defensive transfer next week

    B) Son/Ronaldo > Foden/Dennis
    - Same as above, allows more money & flexibility.
    - Although 2 FT gone, if DGW pops up next, will have 4m+ ITB, even if Salah is back.

    C) Son > Foden
    - No Dennis DGW, but retains 2 FTs.

    D) Other? Suggestions?

Tough one. A city attacker is needed but from those in isolation I'd suggest to lose Foden. I would try to find a way to get KDB in for Foden (perhaps downgrade Coutinho to Ramsey?) and at that point I'd suggest Jota goes. He's great but he's going to have to share some minutes with Firmino, surely?
