Scouting The Doubles

The best Arsenal players for FPL Double Gameweek 29 and beyond

As if you hadn’t heard already, six top-flight teams will play twice in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Double Gameweek 29, after three postponed fixtures were rescheduled for mid-March.

In this first instalment of a four-part Scouting the Doubles, we’ll be focusing on Arsenal.

Notably, in addition to their ‘double’, the Gunners also have a guaranteed fixture in Gameweek 30, making their assets more appealing for those attempting to negotiate the blank without a Free Hit.

All stats taken from this article are from our Premium Members Area.

THE OUTLOOK

With a double-header in Gameweek 29, an unaffected fixture in Blank Gameweek 30 and a favourable run of matches right through until the end of the season, Arsenal assets are understandably in demand right now.

Added to that, they also have two more as-yet-unannounced Double Gameweeks to fit in somewhere during the run below.

After a disastrous start to the season, the Gunners’ have entered the top four as the season’s close approaches, having beaten Watford 3-2 at Vicarage Road on Sunday.

In fact, they have now won their last four Premier League matches in a row, netting eight goals, with the in-form Bukayo Saka (£6.5m) their top scorer during that period with two.

Now, they take on Leicester City (h) and Liverpool (h) in a tricky looking Gameweek 29 double-header, before a kinder run which sees them face Aston Villa (a), Crystal Palace (a) and Brighton and Hove Albion (h).

In the build up to GW 28 I had a discussion on here where I disagreed with someone who didn't agree with taking hits for DGW players. I said I did -4 and TC'd Salah the other week which paid off.

This week I did -8 (which is the most I've done in FPL). Took out Mee, Bruno & Ronaldo and brought in James (C), Son & Kane.

If I didn't make any moves I would have had 2 players come on from my bench for 1 point each (replacing Mee & Ronaldo), and gotten 2 points from Bruno = 4 points.

    Instead I've got 36 from James (& counting), 7 from Son & 13 from Kane = 56 -8 = 48, with James still to play

In summary, don't be scared about taking hits! play the game

Thanks, I'm going for at least -8 this week

    2. DARK SIDE OF THE LOON
      • 7 Years

Yes. It all depends on the players you bring in. There is no set yes or no answer on hits. All team dependent. I am taking a -8 this GW for Bruno + Bowen + Edouard for Salah + Saka + Broja.

agreed, and I think the players being brought in for hits should be good moves for the weeks thereafter as well. Goes without saying of course.
the -8 you're taking makes perfect sense too as you could capt Salah

    3. Tonyawesome69
      • 5 Years

Not a straightforward yes or no answer but you should factor in a few GWs to try and gain the hits back

Hits in DGWs for nailed players have half the effect - it's a no-brainer if the long-term impact has also been carefully considered

  10. Karan14
    • 8 Years
    2 years, 1 month ago

    Ramsdale
    TAA Cancelo James
    Salah Son Saka Raphinha Bowen
    Laca Broja

    (Sa Livra Digne King)

    GW29:
    Bowen & Digne ➡️ Kulu & Doherty -4
    (Bench Broja)

    GW30:
    Salah ➡️ Barnes (8 starters)

    GW31:
Barnes/any mid ➡️ Salah or wildcard

Thoughts on this plan? Am I G2G without Kane?

very tempting. Im not denying there's risk selling Son but since the city game, Kane is matching him for xA and smashing him for xG. Captaincy is also a big factor for 30. BTw, im not against Salah hokey cokey. Im considering it. Liverpools game vs Watford is the early kick off and Im pretty sure there will be team leaks. There's a chance Mo is benched for that game, as he has two games with Egypt, then a CL quarter final, a couple of days after the Watford game and then we play City. If you take Salah out and keep an eye on leaks, you could get away with not owning him for GW30,31 and 32.

Selling Cancelo also sounds risky with Palace & Burnley up next. I’ll also be keeping an injured Bowen and non performing Digne with these transfers.

Very true. Not sure I'd want double Arsenal defense right now though.
Martinelli would be perfect, but he takes a midfield spot, and I'd like a Leicester ready for GW30.
Could get Vardy, but he is even more expensive

If James can get to another 12+ haul, will that be the highest ever score in a gameweek? What is the most points scored by a player in a gameweek?

Why not? Alonso big risk of not playing and then blank. Havertz was a one week punt that's paid off nicely but also has some rotation risk and blank in 30. Saiss to Doherty probably not necessary but saiss could also be dropped given wolves performances and Doherty had an extra game over the next 2

I assumed you were free hitting 30, from your comment now i guess you don't. I can see the appeal then. But Havertz i would not sell, definitely not for a hit ahead of Newcastle. Keep until dropped, he got like 8 returns in 10 while playing striker last season.

Saiss to Doc is a good move.

Alonso may be back, but i can see why you would sell. Robertson is a good pick, but i kinda expect Tsimikas to get one of the dgw games. It happened last time. Watch the CL team sheet . If Robertson rests against Inter, then I'd be more comfortable.

If you're planning to FH in 30 I'd be tempted by D. Nice clear out to set you up nicely going forward and you might even make back the hit this week

Compromised your midfield budget too much with Vardy imo. Elanga, Gordon, Livramento, Amartey & Broja are all fine subs but 5 is too many of them

But between the 5 of them do they give you 2 solid starters each week? I flat out don’t like the Elanga pick - the fixtures look good, but massive rotation risk - TAA, Cancelo, Rudiger, Salah & Kane are must haves? So it’s trying to make the best of the rest of the budget?

Thibk id go Barnes over Vardy and spread the funds a bit. Move a def to James maybe?

I considered that…. but got burned at the start of the season and not sure if the wounds have healed yet! If Vardy is fit he will be the top point scorer in the Leicester side during the run in….. but the form Kane is currently in makes him undropable?

Is Cancelo, Son & King to Doherty, Kulu, Kane worth it for -8?

Or keep Son and get Doherty & Kulu for -4 by selling Bowen & Digne?

Who's best to ship out this week for the long-term? Weghorst or Dennis?
I can just see myself starting Dennis way more often than Weghorst but worried that Dennis is 3 yellows off that 2 match ban too

Dennis looks a good player. If not on Watford he'll be out to a mid table team next season

        I'm on Jim, broja, Adams.
I thought about Mané to Kane for shot, because of rotation issues

Strikers tend to provide least points per million, certainly this season. But i get it, I'm sitting with Kane - Laca - Broja but I play 4-3-3.
