Scouting The Doubles

The best Spurs players for FPL Double Gameweek 29 and beyond

As if you hadn’t heard already, six top-flight teams will play twice in Double Gameweek 29, after three postponed Premier League fixtures were rescheduled for mid-March.

Following our look at Arsenal, attention now turns to North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, in this, the second instalment of a four-part Scouting the Doubles.

Notably, in addition to their ‘double’, the Lilywhites also have a guaranteed fixture in Gameweek 30, making their assets more appealing for those attempting to negotiate the blank without a Free Hit.

All stats taken from this article are from our Premium Members Area.

THE OUTLOOK

Sizeable Double Gameweek 22 a possibility after FA Cup replays scrapped

Tottenham Hotspur’s unexpected elimination from the FA Cup means that Antonio Conte’s side can not only offer us players who ‘double’ in Gameweek 29, but also assets who are unaffected by the blanks in Gameweek 30.

For those looking further ahead, Spurs will also have another Double Gameweek to come between now and the end of the season.

And the remaining fixtures themselves are very decent, with eight of their last 12 games of 2021/22 against teams currently ranked 11th or below in the Premier League table.

Spurs’ performances have been a bit Jekyll-and-Hyde in 2022, with five wins and four defeats in the Premier League since the turn of the year (see below). However, they have improved of late, with back-to-back 5-0 and 4-0 wins against Everton and Leeds United respectively.

  • Tottenham Hotspur 5-0 Everton
  • Leeds United 0-4 Tottenham Hotspur
  • Burnley 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur
  • Manchester City 2-3 Tottenham Hotspur
  • Tottenham Hotspur 0-2 Wolverhampton Wanderers
  • Tottenham Hotspur 2-3 Southampton
  • Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur
  • Leicester City 2-3 Tottenham Hotspur
  • Watford 0-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Now, they face a Manchester United outfit whose defensive deficiencies were badly exposed in Sunday’s derby, plus a Brighton and Hove Albion side who have conceded nine goals in their last four league matches.

    Is this gtg? Bench order and starting 11 correct? I was considering a BB but cancelled that idea.

    Ramsdale

    TAA Cancelo Rudiger James Tierney

    Salah Son Kulusevski Saka

    Broja

    Dubravka Coutinho Weghorst Watkins

      All good. Don't see any changes needed.

      If you think Aston Villa will score against Arsenal, you may want to use the BB as Coutinho / Watkins likely to be involved. If you don't think Aston Villa will score against Arsenal, you may want to put Weghorst first on bench as they have an easier opponent (Brentford away).

        Good point on Weghorst over Coutinho but I put the C on Coutinho this week so I have to give him at least first bench this week, if that logic makes any sense 🙂

                Think you are being hard on Keane. He gets a lot of critic, and he is by no means anywhere in the top drawer for CB, but i think its more down to how Everton defend as a team and he is the old kind of cb which sometimes gets clumsy OG and he is not the best cb with the ball.
                But with better shielding in front and a partnership where the other got pace and a good pass, he is a decent cb.

                  I have to say this bud. Are you a relative? The man is a nightmare. "a few clumsy mistakes" Everton have conceded 8 goals due to player errors. He has been responsible for 5. For me to criticize an Everton player takes a lot but he takes the buscuit.

                    Carragher summarised the Everton defence succinctly on Monday Night Football - Championship standard.

                    That said I’ll be rolling out Holgate, and crossing my fingers, next week; and I’m very content about having Gordon in my BB squad. I will also be offloading Jimenez, and DCL/Richarlison are the likeliest candidates. I’m interested in why you think Richarlison is the better option.

                      DCL and Richa are punts. Why Rich? Because if he has no service he will fo and get the ball. DCL has shown me nothing that he is back to normal yet.

                        Thanks for the feedback. I agree they are both punts, but there’s not much to choose from for 2nd and 3rd strikers, and Everton do have a lot of games to make up.

                    I know its frustrating as a fan with players like Keane, and no, not a relative. And he is not perfect, what i say, is from a view that its the way Everton defend from midfield and strikers that very often leses to problems and i think also all the injuries at cb makes it difficult to get a stable pair. He definitively lacks pace, and does errors with his feets, but he does have some quality, and having a goalie with no comnanding skulle whatsoever does not help. Going all attack leaving large spaces for counter attack is not Keanes best attributtes as a cb. If they play a little bit more conservative, with a much better partner, a New goalie, then i say he is not a long term solution but will be a Decent cb in that set up.

                      I hear all you say but it does not cover Keane in any way. Everton can be OK at home and I will be getting Gordon. Keane is an insult to the shirt IMO. If my facts are right he is in the top 3 teams for mistakes leading to goals and I am talking about teams not individuals.

                        Yep, can agree with you on that, but personal errors often coincides with teams that are in a bad state. So, if you fix the team and how they set up, you can minimize personal errors.
                        For example: Keanes own goal vs Spurs, is forced by Kane, but is a result of very bad defensive work from all of Evertons right hand side plus, i think Vdb, who is not tracking back properly.

                        There is no doubt Everton are chronic defensively. It just so happens Keane is at the top of the pile when it comes to poor quality this year. Not so long ago, he was in the England setup so there must be a player there somewhere. But, then again, the same can be said of Maguire LOL

      Thanks for reply above. I think based on fixtures BB might work better for you than me.
      There is part of me that just wants to get rid of the chip so I can downgrade a spot or two, but not sure who I would want in apart from Kane or a decent City mid - both of which I might not be able to afford anyway.
      What’s your thinking on this? Are you thinking you want it out of the way or believe you could do well with the BB. Will 36 just be a rotation mess if we wait that long?

        Yeah rotation is the real worry. If the DGW is as big as everyone expects it to be, we'll all have DGW benches. But rotation and perhaps motivation will be a factor.

    Does anyone else thinks that Gordon will outscore Kulusevski in GW29? Home fixtures and all. One advantage of Kulusevski is that they get to play a grossly disoriented Man United side.

    1. EmreCan Hustle

      If looking at DGW 29 in isolation, you can make a case for Gordon. But with the GW 30 fixture and in the long term Kulusevski looks the better pick.

        Of course, Kulusevski is better long term. I was talking only about DGW29. Looking at those Everton fixtures and trying to find someone to punt on, the only player that stands out is Gordon. Calvert-Lewin not quite back yet.

      A) Salah is "safe" with highest EO, good pick when leading ML. Kane is a differential captain option, could be chosen when chasing.

      B) Watch Thursday's matches before deciding. You might end up playing Ramsey if Villa keeps their form.

    Chasing, and in danger of getting carried away. 1FT, and already have Kane. What would be your priorities and how far would you go for hits here?
    A) Bowen -> Saka
    B) JWP -> Kulu
    C) Jimi -> Laca
    D) Ramsey -> Gordon
    E) Digne -> Doherty

    Does anybody know which Spurs will turn up next? Is it:
    A. Top 4 champions league Harry Kane’s staying Spurs, or
    B. Conte’s I’m happy to leave can’t polish a turrd Spurs.

    Thinking Bowen to Kulu.

      Expecting very few goals for Spurs in next 3 games but since Bowen is likely to be injured, its a low risk high reward move.

      The way Spurs play, some teams suit them better, and United and Brighton is not Leeds or Everton, but not Burnley either.
      I think Key to Spurs is they score the first goal.
      Those 3 games in 29 and 30 is looking decent for me.

      Any possible route to owning both, even if just for 2 weeks? Kane is on fire & great captaincy candidate but still dont like the sound of -8 to lose Son.

          Thing is, I am considering bringing him back in 31, but the lure of the Son/Kane double is strong... also not ideal to carry Havertz through GW30 (not using FH) when I can have 4 playing mids (Son, Saka, Marti, Raph) + Salah

          In all honesty, the Gelhardt pick is tinged with a little optimism & sentiment as a Leeds fan. Was planning to retire the 3rd fwd spot, then decided to pay the extra 0.2 over Richardson since budget isnt particularly stretched. I do expect some mins for him, although mainly from the bench, in 4222. So if I do ever need him at least there's some pts potential there over non-playing, never-heard-of-him Richardson

          Inter Milan 8 march
          Brighton 12 march
          Arsenal 16 march
          Cup game the 20th
          With that gap between the first 3, Klopp has told Tsimikas to be ready for that cup game, and probably if possible, a 20 minute cameo vs Brighton if things fall right.
          Robertson starts both in gw29. TSIMIKAS plays Nottingham in cup. You dont need Rockstar to tell you that.

    Would you get Doherty in for:

            I dont think so, thats his 2 goals out of the window.

            Salah to Saka and Broja to Kane is a risky move that you can consider

              • 8 Years

              Nice move for 30, 0.2 short unfortunately

              Unless I did Saiss >> Doherty this week but would leave me with 0.1 next week which could easily get swallowed up by price changes

              Good point on the -8, takes two goals to get that back… I mean I’d captain him in 30 but after that normal service would resume with Salah

        This was my first plan when wanting to get Kane in… leaves me with 4.5 for a fodder forward…

        It only provides me with 6 DGW players and 8 BGW players, as opposed to the above 7 and 10

        I’d bring Rudiger back or Thiago Silva in 31 FWIW
