Suspensions

Which FPL players are nearing a two-match ban?

Our Suspension Tightrope article takes a look at the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players who are nearing a two-match ban for the accumulation of 10 yellow cards.

We’re writing this on the Tuesday morning after Gameweek 31 and will update this article after the completion of Burnley v Everton in midweek.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF A PLAYER GETS 10 YELLOW CARDS?

Dennis sent off as Watford collapse in FPL Double Gameweek 23 opener 2

Any Fantasy asset who collects 10 cautions in the Premier League before their team has completed 32 fixtures will serve a two-match ban in the same competition.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

PLAYERS ON 8/9 YELLOW CARDS

There aren’t too many key Fantasy assets at imminent risk of a suspension, as all of the above players bar Conor Gallagher (£6.1m) and Luke Shaw (£5.0m) have ownership figures of under 10% in FPL.

Ruben Neves (£5.3m) and Junior Firpo (£4.7m) are two of the four players on nine cautions although are both currently flagged with injury anyway.

Tyrone Mings (£5.0m) and Scott McTominay (£5.4m) joined them on the precipice in Gameweeks 30 and 31 respectively; the pair have two more matches to see through before they are in the clear.

Gallagher, James Tarkowski (£4.9m) and Matthew Cash (£5.3m) are among the cluster of FPL assets who are two cautions away from the unwanted target.

Bench fodder options like Josh Brownhill (£4.3m), Oriol Romeu (£4.5m) and Yves Bissouma (£4.4m) are also part of this group on eight bookings.

Rodrigo (£6.2m) appears on the above list but is the only one in the clear, as he is two bookings away from a ban but just has one match to go before he passes the 32-game threshold.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

As we mentioned in the introduction, the yellow card threshold is raised to 15 after a team’s 32nd league fixture.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Gameweek 32, however. In fact, for most clubs, this will mean Gameweek 33 or later due to the backlog of postponed fixtures:

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

Who are the best FPL captain options for Blank Gameweek 30? 2

There is currently just one player banned for Gameweek 32, and that is Raul Jimenez (£7.5m) – he will serve the second match of a two-game ban this Friday.

Michael Keane (£4.7m) was sent off for two bookings against West Ham United on Sunday but will see out his one match-ban on Wednesday when Everton face Burnley in the second of their two Double Gameweek 31 fixtures.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Suspension Tightrope widget on our home page over the coming weeks and months, as we’ll be updating that after every Gameweek to keep you informed on the latest disciplinary developments.

Out of curiosity, what's your RMT score for this week?

Mine looks low because of the City v Liverpool fixture, just wondering if it's particularly so.

47.83 as is. Does anyone keep track of the RMT score vs real scores over the gameweeks? Is it far off, or are they very accurate?

Put a couple of quid back in August on Bissouma, Gallagher, McGinn and Maguire to pick up 10 yellows each this season. The first of those 3 on 8 and Maguire on 7 is decent reading but feel like it'll agonisingly fall short

will always love Coutinho as a pool fan ,even after the way he left but the plaudits he is getting at the moment seem really excessive. he's bossed a handfull of games against mediocre opposition but he is mia in games now on a regular basis.not enough work off the ball either. i think you can make comparisons with him and james at everton under Carlo and we all saw how that ended.

Since leaving Liverpool he's seemed to go in the same cycle of sorts at when moving clubs. Initially starts off pretty well in his first few matches, and then seems to drift away completely very quickly

Do you think Coutinho will stay at Aston Villa? I read somewhere that Newcastle are interested in him and their project will definitely attract some decent players.

Wages are crazy so Newcastle sound a better fit, but they weren't as stupid as many thought with their Jan activity so may swerve, Eriksen a better acquisition? Villa have a touch of the Evertons or Spurs about them, so far likely to get distracted by the magical moments and waste money seemingly.

Actually, unless there is something specific I am saving for, having just wildcard and happy with most of my team, I am 'juicing' my team each week by altering my 5th defender spot, then playing him. Got Matip to good effect this week, then will get an Arsenal defender for 2 weeks and so on.

Tierney or Gabriel would be my preference. White only if you need the funds and don’t expect attacking returns

I'm happy with White and his 6/7/8-pointers when Arsenal keep a clean sheet.

I had Tierney but have moved him on this week to enable getting another attacker next week (Martinelli). I think with those fixtures there's a lot of upside with the right attackers. Martinelli has a bit of a frustrating desire to ignore Tierney's overlaps quite often so he doesn't tend to be too involved in attacks of late which also impacts his chances of bps

What to do with FT this week?

    Sa (Sanchez)
    TAA Doherty Tierney Rudiger (Dawson)
    Salah Son Kulu Havertz Saka
    Watkins (Dennis Jimi)

Would love a Leicester mid, but would have to be Kulu or Havertz to make way, or should I just do Jimi to Toney/Iheanacho instead and play over Watkins?

    Ramsdale
    James Laporte Doherty
    Salah Sancho Saka Kulu Raph
    Kane Laca

    (Sa Broja Digne Livra)
    1 FT & 0.0m

    A) Digne ➡️ Dalot/Schar/Roberts
    B) Salah ➡️ Bruno

Need to free up cash for Raphinha to Leicester mid next week.

going to take Cucu 8 points as a parting gift, 5.7m to spend on a defender, ideally needs to play in 32 and double in 33. These are prob my best bets:

    1. Tarko (have Pope)
    2. White/Gabriel (have Tierney)

From the games I've seen of them, I don't really know what I can see them doing to win games, they look like they lack any creative spark or finishing touch, and I haven't seen much fight from them. With Burnley at least you can say they may grab a goal and shut up shop and manage to pick up some points. Even Norwich are capable of playing some nice football. Everton just look completely disjointed.

on the face of it, his form is a bit iffy. the game versus Watford was one of the quietest i've seen him.

upside chasers looking at people like KDB or bruno, or freeing up money for Kane. Salah is prone to runs of poor form, guess it's a gamble some are willing to take.

I'll keep though, the united and everton fixtures are great.

considering it, owning him is currently giving me zero benefit so i need to weigh up the pros and cons of selling him, he looks off the boil atm as is relying on pennos but that can quickly change, but then again there is not many weeks of the season left to worry about him other than his future dgw which i will likely bring him back on a FH anyway

Sold him in GW 30 as I expected him to be benched against Watford. Dodged a bullet there, but invested a lot of the money in my defence (TAA - Robbo - Cancelo - Rudi - Doherty) and having Son and Kane got me in to the top10k for the first time ever!

    8. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 3 Years
      1 year, 11 months ago

      My reasons are:

      - 4 goals since GW24 (return from AFCON), with 3 of those being penalties
      - Liverpool looking like they want to close out games now (haven't scored more than 2 goals in any game in all comps since beating Leeds 6-0)
      - AFCON loss and failing to qualify for WC alongside contract uncertainty feels like it could be having an impact on performances
      - Generally looking a little bit leggy at times

He's still posting good stats of course and it could be a disaster, but something does seem a bit off with him. Bruno last season dipped in form and I think after early Feb only scored 1 or 2 goals from open play until the end of season and dropping him was the right call. Not saying for sure this is the same of course, but like Kane looking quite poor until around GW22 or so and then picking up week after week, Salah may be doing the inverse, and with a lot of big games in other competitions coming up focus may move elsewhere.

Thanks a lot for your insights, lots of good points! This game is very much about adapting to changing conditions in real football and real life: Weather, pandemy, injuries, form, fixtures, motivation, stage of the season, stats vs output, patience and ability to step out of patterns and the big hurdle 🙂

Fancy Burnley to go on a run (isn’t Vydra back?). Fred going to be in everyone’s teams? Maybe Jiminez back with a vengeance or Richarlison save Everton from the drop?

Sterling to finish in Top 3 PL goalscorers. Salah has basically won it, but the podium places are up for grabs.

Good shout. He’s been ticking along nicely under the radar. Nice fixtures and competition for the title.

As one of the few non-template players in my squad, it has to be Cucho - but he'll probably be stuck on my bench when he hauls!

Vardy & Leicester to finish strongly, i had forgotten how good of a team they had when nearly everyone is fit

League and top 4 races going to the wire. Makes sense to stick with proven assets from decent teams.

Couple of City, 3 Pool, 3 Spurs, couple of Arsenal, Chelsea might even have to pull their fingers out a bit.

Completely agree, tough to see too many outside options. Also why I am FH'ing 33 as think you'll still want this core for 36.

This is what I am going for:
        3 X Liverpool
        3 X Ars enablers
        2 X Tot
        Cancelo + Dubrvaka
        Son/KDB hokey cokey

Am dead ending my team to 33, WC 34 pretty much with the core you listed above.

FH in back pocket to punt in a later GW once the schedule is finalized.

Feel fairly happy with it. Not a Burnley player in sight.

    Pope
    Robertson Rudiger Doherty Kilman
    Salah Son Saka Ramsey
    Kane Maupay

    Sanchez Gordon Livramento Broja
    1.2m 1FT (only BB left)

don't like my team for this week, but with only BB left it feels like rolling FT would have the biggest value.

Any thoughts on FT, Maupay is my biggest issue.

For the run-in from wk33 would you rather have:
    A) Matip, Laporte, Son, Gallagher,
    Or
    B) Cancello, Trent, Barnes, Kulu.

    Pros of selling Salah:

    1. Relatively out of form
    2. Tough-ish fixtures coming up
    3. Releases a lot of funds, could help build a better team

    Cons of selling Salah:

    1. He's Mo Salah

if he doesn’t improve I’ll be selling him for KDB in 34

Current squad below. With 2 free transfers feels like BB33, FH 36 is my best route - thoughts?

    Ramsdale / Dubravka
    Taa / Cancelo / White / Rudiger / Doherty
    Salah / Kulsevski / Saka / Coutinho / Raphina
    Kane / Wood / Broja

I’ve seen a ton of people whine about how template this season has been yet don’t have the guts to sell Salah for a KDB/Kane ( much better form atm).
If you’re playing catch-up you gotta risk it.

Does anyone know where I could find the history of the total number of FPL players each year? Ideally maybe back a 8 year period or so?
