Gabriel injury latest as Son and Kane haul in north London derby

We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal in our Scout Notes summary.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-improving website, and our own Premium Members Area.

SPURS REIGNITE TOP FOUR PUSH

Two goals from Harry Kane (£12.4m) and a red card to Arsenal’s Rob Holding (£4.1m) put Tottenham in firm control of the north London derby, before Son Heung-min (£11.0m) added a third early in the second-half.

Spurs have now won five of their last six home league games, scoring at least three goals in each of those victories, with Burnley up next in Sunday’s Gameweek 37 opener.

The Clarets, meanwhile, could potentially be missing both of their first-choice centre-halves: James Tarkowski (£4.9m) exited last weekend’s game against Aston Villa in the early stages of the second half after feeling tightness in his hamstring, while Ben Mee (£4.6m) is out with a leg injury.

As for Son, the South Korean is now just one goal behind Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) in the Golden Boot race. The Liverpool man looked like he was going to run away with the award a few months back, but Son has hit 10 goals in his last eight league games to close within one of the Egyptian.

He wasn’t able to draw level with Salah on Thursday, however, with Antonio Conte withdrawing the player after 72 minutes, much to his frustration.

“Obviously I want to play always but what can I say? I have to accept it. We have a game on Sunday so that’s why. I am not angry just disappointed. I have to move on. I wanted to keep playing. We have an important game so I need to be ready, recover well and be fresh again.” – Son Heung-min on his withdrawal after 72 minutes

“I know Son Heung-min wanted to continue to play but I had to think not only about this game but to have fresh players. They spent a lot of energy. I made the decision to give them a bit of rest. He promised me on Sunday he will go to try to score.” – Antonio Conte on Son Heung-min

Son’s goal and assist means that he has now produced five double-figure hauls in his last eight matches and trails Salah by just 16 points at the top of the FPL standings.

On the injury front, Cristiano Romero (£4.8m) missed out due to a hip injury, which Conte touched on before kick-off.

“In the game against Liverpool he received a hit on his hip. After the game he had pain and is not right to recover.” – Antonio Conte on Cristian Romero

DEFENSIVE ISSUES AT ARSENAL

Despite tonight’s damaging defeat, Arsenal remain in the driving seat for a top-four spot with a one-point lead.

Despite that, there’s no room for any slip-ups against Newcastle United and Everton and they are struggling defensively: they have now gone eight league matches without a clean sheet since the 1-0 win at Aston Villa in Gameweek 30.

That’s coincided with injuries to Thomas Partey (£5.0m), Kieran Tierney (£4.9m) and more recently Ben White (£4.6m), although the latter did make the bench tonight.

However, it gets worse for Mikel Arteta, as they lost key centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes (£5.4m) to injury against Spurs, while Holding will serve his one-match ban at St James’ Park following his red card.

As for Gabriel, the 24-year-old went down feeling his hamstring and limped off shortly after, although Arteta did sound fairly upbeat in his post-match interview.

Gabi [Gabriel] is not normally a player who asks to be get off the pitch. He felt something but hopefully it’s not much. It’s a muscular problem and we’ll have to assess it” – Mikel Arteta

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Lloris, Sanchez, Dier, Davies (Rodon 82), Royal, Bentancur, Hojbjerg, Sessegnon, Kulusevski (Moura 72), Son (Bergwijn 72), Kane

Arsenal XI: Ramsdale, Cedric, Holding, Gabriel (Tavares 76), Tomiyasu, Elneny, Xhaka, Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli (Smith Rowe 64), Nketiah (Lacazette 73)

Yep looks good if chasing. Monitor FA Cup final minutes for Diaz, could maybe go Ings/Watkins/Jota if he plays full match.

45 points clear in ML. I was going to sell Salah for Son and go with KDB and Son but he will probably captain Salah. Should I go Salah and Son instead? He already owns Son and Son has killed my chances of getting into thr top 100k I reckon so just want to protect the lead.

Suppose the question really is KDB or Salah?

You've answered your own question. If goal is to win ML, stick with Salah.

Lateriser would say Tsimikas is a waste of a third Liverpool spot and go Jota or Diaz and roll the dice away at Southampton.

Two sgw Liverpool is fine with me. Tsimikas is an enabler who also pairs nicely as a sub for Robertson. . Maybe I'll look up that Wire video. Last time was at the start of the season when picking initial squads but I tend not to watch too many pundits during the season.
                Thanks for the heads up.

Very similar to mine, but I'm taking a risk and going Vardy instead of Salah. Chasing in one mini league and think I may as well take a chance.

I was interested in Vardy but strikers are almost always overpriced compared to attacking mids from the same team.

Hows this for a first FH draft:

        Pickford, Foster
        Robbo, Digne, Mykolenko,
        KDB, Son, Zaha, Coutinho,
        Vardy, Ings, Richarlison

Have 15 left to fill the bench spots or make improvements.

        Any thoughts?

        Salah Maddison Mahrez
        Richarlison Watkins

        Foster Nketiah Saka Dewsbury-Hall

I would FH in 38 with that team. You’ll want spurs coverage (I’d got for triple up of son kulu and Kane) as well as at least a double Chelsea (on FH id probably triple up). I had same dilemna about 37 or 38 but decided to go for 37 because I already have kulu, Kane, son, rudi and Mount

        Hi,

Big dilemma here.. Got FH and TC left and 13 points lead in the ML at the moment.
Nr2 in the ML has only FH left, doesn't have Salah but does have Son and TAA.

        Current team:
        Pickford (Schmeichel)
Cancelo - Dier - James (Thomas - Tavares)
        Salah - Kulusevski - Maddison - Mount - Gordon
        Kane - Nketiah (Dennis)

Option A: Play TC (Get Richarlison and budget defender like Cash for -4 and TC Richarlison)
Option B: Play Free Hit and see if I still have a lead and act accordingly with the transfer(s)

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!!

I know he came out good yesterday which is standard for a FW at this price but if you look at his overall perf over the last two months, I think he's far from being the main threat for Spurs. Playing deep and Son being the end product

In my mind heavy rotation favours a FH38 as there's more likely blanks in template teams or those with 1 FT to deal with team news and what still matters for Leeds or Burnley and Spurs and Arsenal.

                  And hopefully Liverpool.

Plus Chelsea and Leicester City at home to play into.

Could really do with some advice, tight in my money league, and everyone else has a FH left 🙁

              Rams (Dubr)
              Canc TAA Robbo Holgate Tilva
              Saka Salah Kulu Coutinho (Ramsey)
              Kane(c) (Mateta, Broja)

Thinking go hard on Spurs with Burnley no CBs, and Nor.

              A) Trent/Saka to Clyne/Son
              B) Salah/Broja to Son/Richarlison

I like B but you can see the danger. Reassess after the cup final tomorrow ... I'd imagine we all will.

Thanks both. Feel like apart from the Manu game when i capped him, massively lost out with Son KDB in such form. And of course out of the choice of those 3 and Cancelo for cap, you can guess who I went for. Could see a rest on final day too. Liking B too.

                Best move?
                A.
                GW37 Dias > DGW
                GW38 Watkins, Mount > Kane (-4) (C), Fodder
                B.
Ignore TOT. (2nd in ML has Son)
                GW37 Dias > DGW.
                GW38 Watkins > Toney

Best option here on a FH?

                  A: Digne + Holgate + KDB + Vardy
                  B: Digne + Robbo + Maddy + Kane

                    Hi All,

Make or break time for me. -4 already taken.
I have BB left and I feel that I need to play it this week. 8 points behind mini league rival.

                    Pickford
                    James Robertson Digne
                    Salah Son Martinelli KDH
                    Weghorst Watkins Richarlison

                    Steele Taveres Foden Laporte

Is it worth another -4 to do Foden to Zaha, perhaps a -12 to do Steele to Butland/Guaita?

I'd say minus 8 max and defo BB this week.

                      Gw38 will be a minefield.

Thanks. They could, but West Ham are a half decent side, full strength and last home game of the season, I could be wrong but I don't expect a thumping.

Almost carbon copy of mine , I've gone Madison over robbo so playing 343 .
So looking good from me , as other comment city could score another 4 or 5 or it could be a tight game.
                        So good luck

Thanks. Hmm that is a consideration, I think Madison potentially only plays the one game, but I guess if it's Watford he may be the better pick than Robbo. Yeah it's risky with no City I just think West Ham much better than Wolves so happy to roll the dice on that one

So looking at the fact it’s FA cup final this season weekend and then champions league final and the premier league fixtures is Salah to Son a no brainer ? And there No way I can fit them both in without a hit and I can’t afford that at moment

The thinking is Salah goes big at Southampton.

                        As ever.

But a big Manchester City win or FA Cup extra time changes that dynamic somewhat.

The more I think the better it will be to wait till after the cup final to see how things look . I’m not going to loose out on price increases as son is so much lower than salah so I think leave it till deadline could be a good shout though

                            Yeah.

Salah knock and sub on the 75th minute changes things for instance.

See how Jota looks if he comes on?

                            Or Diaz if he starts.

Now Coutinho has signed for Aston Villa on permanent basis I am thinking it may be worth keeping him for this week. He has 2 games and will get some minutes. He is probably due some points.

                      Allison

                      Cancelo James Laporte*

                      KDB Salah Coutinho Saka Odegaard

                      Rich Dennis*

                      Foster Targett Doherty Cucho

Hmm so quite a few fires to put out here. I would like Son and Dennis gone too. May also be short of defensive numbers.

My initial thought is Salah to Son (risky I know) then Dennis to Ings.

In defence could just play Targett or bring in Everton defender up to 4.6 million for a minus 4 (probably not worth it)

                      Thanks.
