FPL

Which FPL players are on free-kicks, corners and penalties in 2022/23?

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is live for 2022/23 and so too is our table of players on free-kicks, corners and penalties at their respective clubs.

The players are listed in order of prominence at dead-ball situations, based on information gathered from last season’s matches. Data closer to Gameweek 38 is given more weight.

The list will be updated constantly as new information becomes available on assigned set-piece takers and we’ll have one eye on pre-season to see if there is a shake-up in the table below or if any new signings like Erling Haaland are muscling their way in on the dead-ball duties.

Nottingham Forest are a good example: Joe Lolley and Brennan Johnson are listed as direct free-kick takers but it was loanees Joe Garner and Philip Zinckernagel who were chiefly responsible for these in the Championship last season and they have now departed the club.

This is a list that is also supplied to the FPL site, where you’ll find explanatory notes on the penalty takers featured here.

Morning all, it's good to be back.

Here's the first draft, initial thoughts? It's a bit template and I don't like the 3x Arsenal.

    Ramsdale - (Forster)
    James - Robertson - Cancelo - Perisic - (4.0?)
    Salah - Mount - Neto - Martinelli - (Elanga)
    Haaland - Jesus - (Greenwood/4.5?)

I know it's early but do we have any viable 4.0's yet? It's currently Vestergaard...

I like ASM.. reclassified as a mid again finally and Newcastle look like they'll have a good season. Has a nice option in Bruno to switch to if he doesn't perform either. He will defo be my punt for the season start..

How's this draft? Saving 1.5m itb to upgrade to Salah, Haaland, etc. Going all out with Spurs vs Southampton at home

    Raya
    TAA Cancelo Perisic Mings
    Son Diaz Coutinho Neto
    Kane Jesus

    4.0 Tomiyasu Andreas 4.5 fwd

    1st draft

    Mendy
    Trent Cancelo Cash Justin/Botman Tomayasi
    Salah Dias BrunoGu Neto (Chalobah)
    Haaland/Kane Jesus Taylor..

    Currently on Justin/Haaland

I think Jesus is well priced but he doesn't deserve to be the 3rd most selected attacker in the game...

This is Jesus we're talking about. He's never been a prolific goal scorer. In fact, he's one of the biggest xG underperformers. Now he's going to a team that creates fewer chances than City. We don't know yet how Arsenal will gel with him. We don't even know if he's going to play upfront or not... They could start Nketiah and have him at RW for all we know.

8.0m and a forward. I think he's a fair pick but he's not the best value and I think you can find better if you rebalance the funds into midfield or defense.

I don't like 5 atb because 4.5 defenders are the best subs to have.

4-5-1. Although I'm planning to start with 2 up front. Going Mitrovic most likely...

The early fixtures work in his favour. If he turns out to be a bit meh, it's an easy downgrade to a 7.6 or 7.0 forward.

          • 3 Years

True, honestly the Nketiah factor is the biggest unknown and issue for me. Downgrading Jesus to bring in Ode/Martinelli would also give me room to improve one bench option and maybe even change Grealish to Bowen. Not that I have an issue with Grealish like some do, but Bowen will naturally be a more reliable starter

Will put my money in midfield and defence this year. Attackers last year was abysmal. The third highest scoring attacker from last year got beaten by 15 midfielders and 9 defenders.. the game does not favor attackers unless they score 1+ goals frequently.

    1. Black Knights

I think you're better off going with Cancelo and a 4.5m. They're not typical 4.5s any more, plenty of good options.

There's enough doubt over Chelsea's backline and Perisic's minutes early doors to make the other option a safer bet to start.

Alright here we go, first draft...

    Sanchez (4.0)
    TAA / Cancelo / Perisic / Trippier (4.0)
    Salah / Diaz / Saka / Neto (4.5)
    Kane / Wilson (4.5)

Would really like a 5.0 goalie but don't really want to downgrade anyone else

Pretty happy with this until first WC, which will likely be after 5-6 weeks or so:

    Ederson
    TAA, Cancelo, Chilwell, Tomi
    Salah, Diaz, Neto, ASM
    Haaland, Jesus

    4.0; Andreas, 4.0, Greenwood

second bench boost attempt, but this time with a GW3 WC in mind; Son and/or Kane to KDB and/or Haaland GW2:

    Alisson
    TAA Trippier Doherty
    Son Diaz BrunoG Martinelli
    Kane Wilson Solanke
    Mendy Ait-Nouri Jonny Neto

Solanke and Wolves stinking up the place, but with Solanke (AVL) and Wolves (lee) it could get lucky; gonna change it a million times before the start anyway 😀

Don't like GW1 BB. If anything, it'd be a nice time to BB the week after the world cup. We get a Wildcard to prep it, more team value and more knowledge of who to pick.

      1. SADIO SANÉ
        • 8 Years
        1 year, 9 months ago

yeah most people won't but I do - that is interesting though, and then WC straight after? I don't like carrying funds on the bench at all - you actually going to be able to BB that week? (as in, will we be using a wildcard during the world cup or is it just unlimited transfers?)

        1. Zimo

hmmm that does change things, I wanted to do a GW2 wildcard for the reason above (trialing the GW3 WC idea with this team); but that it interesting; if we can't BB that week I won't be happy haha

the main difference (and very important one in my case) is that you can (I assume) bench boost GW17 (when you can't usually do that on a wildcard week) - thanks Camzy, that helps

Correct! Which is what I think I'm gonna do. Remember in the COVID season when they gave us unlimited transfers when the league started again? It was the best time to have BB'd and for some reason I didn't do it. Regret that.

just realised that if you did this, you'd have to use the second wildcard to fix it ... think this just went from no brainer to bad idea 😆

There's always money left in the bank by that time cuz we all have the best bargains in our team. Shouldn't be a big problem. Just don't get a really expensive bench

In defence, I'm considering x2 big hitters and x3 rotating defenders GW1-GW16. A few nice, affordable options out there allowing for a good balance further upfield.

Anyone else feel Grealish (£7m) is being over looked compared to other mid price midfielders generally and Foden/Mahrez specifically?

Both these ManC options significantly outscored him last season, and then there’s Pep Roulette to consider. However…

Unless more signings come in city will be down two attackers (Jesus and Sterling) and up 1 (Haaland). Therefore, particularly with Sterling being LW, Grealish likely to get more game time.

Given his young age, and the fact that Pep must have seen something in him to pay £100m, I would expect him to improve this year, too.

Also, think having a proper Striker will help him more, particularly with assists but also the positioning with be simpler (although arguably reduces his goal threat if he’s made to hug the wing more?).

Yes. I consider Grealish to have big potential. But I'm gonna wait and see.

He's at a price that you can afford to wait and see how City set up and then jump on him if he starts well. No rush until we know if/how he'll be used.

An XI based on proven ability to score points at their price point would be:

    Raya
    Trent - Cancelo - Robertson - Cash - Trippier
    Salah - Son - Bowen - Neto
    Toney

0.5 to upgrade as you see fit.

Would be a very good safe team to start with

Obviously there's risk without Haaland but Son > KDB in GW2 easily covers City if one feels the need.

Toney as your only striker is very weak

None of the available strikers have proven their ability to score points worth their price - except Kane, who is worse than Son.

I'm actually super confused, why did people mention multiple times GW8 as a WC point this time last week, before we even knew there was an extra wildcard!? that made me think the world cup was after GW8 and not after GW16 😆

Because GW7-9 tends to be the best time to deploy first WC. At least that's how it's been in the past few years.

I think it might be due to the international break following GW8

Although wildcarding will depend on fixture swings but it's slightly risky wildcarding in an international break with players coming back late in the week/fitness etc

makes sense - yeah, I wildcarded in GW8 last season and had the dreaded Son covid rumours to contend with

I'm starting Arsenal heavy. Their fixtures turn south GW8 just as Leicester and Newcastle are getting into their stride. GW8 does look to be in the right ballpark.

ok cool, that makes sense - I just confused that reasoning with the world cup thing

What do you say on this No Mo draft?

    Raya
    TAA, Cancelo, James, Tomiyasu
    Diaz, Bowen, Coutinho, Odegaard
    Kane, Haaland

    4.0, Jonny, 4.5, 4.5

There are just so many good options around 8m mark this year. Jesus, Havertz, Mount, Bowen, Saka, Diaz, Foden. I like it though, brings some variety, looks like those small edges on who is really the better option will be important. Can't have them all after all. Although I was saying the same thing last year and it turned out most of the midfield options disappointed after all...

    Mendy (4.0)
    TAA, James, Cancelo, Perisic (Tomiyasu)
    Salah, Diaz, Neto, Ramsay (A.Pereira)
    Haaland, Jesus, (Delap)

    Thoughts guys?
Villa have a decent first 4, then Ramsay will rotate for other 5.5 mids such as Gordon, Lanzini, Oliver etc. to match decent fixture swings...
Then obviously hoping Pereira to Fulham amd Delap to Southampton moves come to fruition!

Yeah it's solid mate, no real flaws other than maybe double Chelsea def but even that is debatable. I'm also not 100% on who I'm starting in goal yet -- this is essentially the team I'm on currently, too, a few tweaks aside.

I've gone without Cancelo and put Trips in to start. Frees up Ramsey to Raph (on the assumption he goes to Chelsea) and floating .5 to put where you like. Food for thought.

sooo my next question is, how do we find out if Bench Boosting in GW17 is going to be possible? if it's just unlimited transfers I'm assuming it will be..? BB17 WC18 is like a FREE HIT BENCH BOOST, something potentially glorious (albeit not a DGW)

hold on, you have to use the first WC up to GW16 at the latest, so this doesn't work - I should just read the rules 10 more times and I might get it
