The usual Scout Squad foursome of Sam, Neale, Tom and Az are back for 2022/23.

Each week, they’ll be discussing the best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards for the upcoming Gameweek.

No fewer than seven players have been given universal backing for the opening weekend, to make Friday’s final Scout Picks selection all the more tricky.

In this series, our four resident Fantasy Football Scout contributors each propose an 18-man squad of Fantasy players with the focus solely on the upcoming Gameweek.

Their selections serve as a long list for the Scout Picks, as the players nominated will then be narrowed down to a squad of 15 (with the starting XI not exceeding a total cost of £83.0m) for our final weekly selection ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Each writer must meet the following requirements:

  • At least one sub-£5.0m goalkeeper
  • At least one sub-£5.0m defender
  • At least one sub-£6.0m midfielder
  • At least one sub-£7.0m forward
  • No more than three players from the same club

    Final dilemma: Kane v Haaland

    Haaland rotates better with Salah for captaincy. I would probably captain him for Bournemouth (H), Newcastle (A) and Nottingham Forest (H) in the first six weeks, whereas I would probably only captain Kane once for Fulham (H) in GW6. Both the Chelsea and Wolves fixtures could be graveyard shifts for a forward (or not, who knows).

    Kane is great though, and a proven goal scorer in the league and FPL. Haaland would need to be nailed and shake off his community shield jitters – likely, in my view, but not as 100% proven as Kane.

    Who do I go for?

    A: Haaland
    B: Kane

    Going to the hospital for an unfortunate procedure tomorrow, so need to settle on something I dont have to worry about for some weeks.

    I think this should be fairly balanced and easy to manage for rotation, new signings etc. between Doherty, Walker, Neto and Bailey.

    I should be able to pick up things again from GW3-4, so I dont think I will miss out that much.

    Which 4.5m Arsenal defender is most nailed? Seen a few fans saying Saliba is more likely than White to keep his place when (if ever) Tomiyasu comes back

      It's really hard to tell. I would guess Saliba, but there is no real precedent. It's based on the idea that he will play well so won't be able to be dropped.

    Let's say I'm keeping Darwin...

    Is it worth downgrading Son (Sterling/Mount) or Saka (Odegaard) to upgrade one or two defenders?

    What would you do, along these lines?

    What are your thoughts on Kulusevski for 8m spot instead of Saka for first gameweek? Only other spurs player is Perisic in my team. Spurs might have a field day against Southampton, and kulu looks to be involved. Saka against CP away doesn't look that juicy.

        Yeah I'm thinking of doing a swap for Saka before their run of good fixtures from GW3. Don't really like having planned transfers tho, since a lot can happen first gameweeks, so I'll reasess before deadline.

          Sorry bud got side tracked…..true enough but the other side of that particular fpl coin is what if their are no other issues in your squad and that looks an ideal move. Bandwagons aside I guess it depends on possible risks you’ve already selected.
