SCOUT’S GAMEWEEK 1 PICKS

Starting at Spurs, where quotes from the pre-Southampton press conference have added uncertainty over the match fitness of Ivan Perisic (6.5) and Matt Doherty (6.5). The latter seems especially unlikely, leading us to another attacking wing-back, Emerson Royal (6.5).

Meanwhile, Leeds host Wolves after a decent pre-season ended with a 6-2 win over Serie B side Cagliari. Patrick Bamford (6.5) scored twice and is hoping to put a bad season of hamstring, foot and ankle injuries behind him. A home match versus Wolves’ new back-four system could be an ideal place to start.

The only summer signing amongst these picks is Raheem Sterling (8.5), now donning the blue shirt of Chelsea. With a five-season FPL average of just under 200 points, the 27-year-old England international guarantees goals and will be determined to prove that Pep Guardiola was wrong to sell him.

Jadon Sancho (7.5) has three goals from four pre-season outings, forming a promising front three with Marcus Rashford (8.5) and Anthony Martial (6.5). As the latter has been ruled out of the opener against Brighton, expect Sancho to return from the illness that kept him out of last weekend’s friendlies.

Finally, key Man City players like Kevin De Bruyne (10.5), Erling Haaland (10.5) and Joao Cancelo (8.5) have been priced very highly for their trip to West Ham. So let’s back Jarrod Bowen (7.5) – the scorer of both goals during their 2-2 draw less than three months ago.

HOW DOES FANTASY5 WORK?

Win £10,000 for free with Fantasy5 by picking the best players for Gameweek 1 2

Fantasy5 is easy to play as it follows the exact same scoring system as FPL, just without the bonus points.

It’s also the fastest media outlet for live Fantasy points, displaying all player points from the five games in question, as well as the live score and time.

For the more detailed lowdown, head here.

The competition is limited to one entry per person per round and selections must be submitted before kick-off of the first eligible match.

If two or more entrants correctly select five players who all score more than their points target, then the prize pot is split among all winners.

I'm all set except GK department. I'm contemplating whether to go with Sanchez&Ward 0 itb, or Ward&Iversen 0.5 itb.

    Ward
    TAA, Robbo, Dias, Botman
    Salah, Saka, Mount, Bailey
    Kane, Jesus

    Ward, Andreas, Neco, Archer

The sub keeper is Sanchez. Autocorrect typo there.

I made the mistake of not picking him GW1 last season and regretted it. Nailed to start and on set pieces. Basically plays as a left winger for Chelsea and they are playing Everton.

Alonso is a risk not to get 60 mins for me - the new five sub tile won’t suit him - it will be interesting to who are the regular non 60 min rotation players

I like Toney decent fixtures and obviously the focal point. I wish you could stretch it to Wilson as I think 3 of the first 5 are really nice.

          • 1 Year

Wilsons injury record is a bit of a worry and It's also a difficult price point as there aren't many options in the 6-8 foward bracket. I think he's worth the punt but I wouldn't go without Robbo to do it.

Getting closer to crunch time. Can't wait for the footie to be back!

Rather template of course, but still unsure on some things.

    Iversen (Ward)
    TAA Robertson [DEF] James (Neco)
    Salah [MID] [MID] Bailey (Andreas)
    Haaland Jesus (Archer)

Probably going for the Ward/Iversen pairing as it's so useful. Was tempted to have Perisic before, but with minutes unsure feel James is just safer. Easy to downgrade if needed. Kane/Haaland will come down to the wire. Not afraid of a GW1 transfer.

    For the [MID/DEF] spots:
    A) Saka, Martinelli, Cancelo
    B) Mount, Martinelli, Cancelo
    C) Mount Saka, Walker

Feel like there's a good opportunity with Saka as so many going Martinelli, but also realised what good value he is. Triple Arsenal attack I don't MIND (esp. come GW3) but vs. Palace a bit tricky. If I go with B not sure I bring in Saka for GW3 due to Lee for Mount being a good fixture. Also guess his price may have risen by then. Cancelo is great, but Walker for 2m less.... Thoughts?

Is it worth benching perisic - and using from gw3?

I just think the 5.0 defender market and even the defender market at city have better options. Walker will get CS points but thats it. I think you can probably get his output from a 4.5 (judging by his returns the last couple of years).

Mbeumo could be an options. His point total is a bit missleading because he did hit the post 7-8 times and if those go in this year he could be value.

Yeah he’s conversion is frustrating to see at times if he can sort that out like you said he’ll be of value this season thanks for your feedback

Appreciate help for this third post on the same topic. Somehow everybody else got answers on last page so I guess there is some improvement in my ideas. 😀

A or B. Team A does not have any players from Team B and vice versa.

    a) 5-3-2:Ward/Iversen, Robertson, Saka
    b) 4-4-2: Ramsdale, L Diaz, Martinelli,

thanks mate! Still holding b chouce because I think Robbo vs Diaz and Saka vs Martinelli are both quite 50-50 so it comes to Ramsdale vs Ward/Iversen where Rams takes an easy win.

How? Peresic might bench himself but I would want to start all three. No reason having Bailey if you're not going to play him the first couple of week. After that the fixtures turn dark and will be stuck to your bench.

    GK Ward/Iverson
DEF TAA, Cancelo, Tripper, Dalot, Neco
MID Salah, Son, Neto, Bailey, Andreas
    FWD Kane, Jesus, Archer

Plan would be to sell Kane or Son to a KDB or Haaland perhaps for gw 2

With Conte’s comment on perisic, would you still keep him?

Why are so many people set on Haaland over KDB? It can't just be the 0.5 saving. KDB looks fitter than he has done for a long time and will surely be involved in the majority of goals City score in this new advanced role of his. Haaland won't carve out chances for himself. I'm tempted to ignore the Kane > Haaland template and do Son > KDB instead. Could be a really nice differential and definitely captain material.

Is a lone striker a bad idea? Please RMT, thanks in advance. (Kindly ask not to suggest players like Neto, Bailey etc as I hate to be a part of what is called template.)

    Pope

    TAA James Walker White

    Salah KDB Sterling Odegaard Dele

    Jesus

Main issue with a lone striker, if you find out your striker is injured after the deadline then you are down to 10 men. If you find out out before the deadline, you have to use a transfer rather then possibly bench. Plus with Jesus's ownership you will technically be playing without striker at all

I’d rather go for Gabriel if you can find the 0.5. Bit more assured with Saliba hanging around too.
