The 2022/23 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season is almost upon us, with Arsenal visiting Crystal Palace in tonight’s big kick-off.

As a result, the questions on team drafts, specific players, captaincy picks and differentials are coming thick and fast in the comments section, so we’ve asked five-time top 1k finisher and Scout’s Deputy Editor, Tom Freeman, to answer some of your conundrums over the next 60 minutes.

He’ll be on hand to first reply to requests from Premium Members in the Hot Topic below the line of this piece and will get through as many as he can until the next article goes up.

If there’s time, Tom will also turn his attention to other requests in the comments section.

As ever, you can chip in with your own opinions on the raft of RMT requests filtering through – and naturally, feel free to ignore the article subject matter and talk about any other wider FPL topics that you’d normally be musing on.

    Does 5 subs change the way you choose your formation?

    I think defenders are more likely to get 90 minutes than forward players. Even the most nailed on starters in forward positions will see their game time reduced this season I think.

      Agree that defenders more likely to get 90.

      But think actually it’s the most nailed on players in attack who gain most from this.

      For instance I believe Kane will still get 90 most games but someone like Kulu will lose out on minutes.

      VVD to a £5m then upgrade Martinelli?

      Otherwise looking good. Though no attacking Liverpool player might be risky.

      I would absolutely not go for 3x pool in defense. You should leave some room for transferring in attackers if Diaz, Nunez, Salah start firing early. I'd go for Ward/Sanchez combo for goalkeepers, and bank the 1m to make room for KDB -> Salah f.x

    Ditched Perisic as he seems to be a doubt .. so it comes down to

    A) Ederson & Trippier (bank 0.5)
    B) Pope & James
    C) Sanchez/Ward & Trippier (which enables Barnes to Mount or Mahrez)

    8.0 mid looks tricky. Not keen on Diaz, Maddison & Saka as I think Robbo, Barnes & Martinelli look better value. Kulu will probably rotate with Richarlison, Mahrez is subject to Pep trolling and I don't trust Chelsea at all, even though I like Mount. So I'm currently on Barnes, at least until I bring in Zaha (after Palace fixtures turn)

    One player I've seen in no teams is Kristensen (5.0M). I know the the Austrian league isn't great but the quality of his goals were outstanding and his style is quite similar to prime Alonso. Yes Leeds defence is very dodgy but I don't know why nobody wants an exciting player with 10 goals and 8 assists last season. Leeds look like they've recruited smartly with Aaronsen, Sinisterra etc so they look like the most overlooked and exciting assets.

        I'm going both as the potential is there. I agree there's 5m in better defences but Kristensen has good fixtures and is comparable to Perisic in terms of potential attacking returns, but will get less clean sheets.
