From our top picks from each team to a predicted line-up for the opening weekend, we’ve covered each top-flight side in detail.

Next up is Wolverhampton Wanderers, who despite flirting with Champions League qualification in 2021/22, suffered an alarming drop-off in the closing months.

Data in this article comes from our Premium Members Area, which you can access with a discounted subscription for as little as £2.49 a month today.

FPL points predictions for Gameweek 3 and beyond 3

Wolves really struggled for goals throughout 2021/22 and finished the campaign among the lowest scorers in the division.

In fact, only the three relegated clubs – Burnley, Watford and Norwich City – scored fewer than their 38, with their expected goals (xG) tally faring even worse when compared to other top-flight clubs.

Their lack of creativity in the final third was sometimes overlooked during the first half of the season, when they possessed one of the best defensive records in the division. However, the campaign came to a disappointing end, as Wolves won just three of their last 14 league games.

The fact they finished 10th with such a dismal goalscoring output is an achievement in itself, but manager Bruno Lage will be demanding more in 2022/23.

    Thoughts on this THREEMIUM guys?

I know its not ideal to book a transfer but will most likely get a City player for Kane or Son in GW2

    Ward
    TAA Cancelo Walker White
    Salah Son Bailey Neto
    Jesus Kane

    Iversen Andreas Neco Archer

How many goals do we think Arsenal will score in their first 5 games?

    Palace (a)
    LEICESTER (h)
    Bournemouth (a)
    FULHAM (h)
    VILLA (h)

I think Arsenal will have scored at least 12 goals by the end of gw5. And I'd imagine Saka, Martinelli and Jesus to have a hand in almost all of their goals. I also think that from all the 8.0 players, Saka is the best option. Same with Martinelli at the 6.0 price point.

With strong fixtures in the first 5 (especially between gw3-5), triple Arsenal attack coupled with Salah and Haaland/Kane would be the best way forward right? If Arsenal score then it's almost a guaranteed return if you have Saka, Jesus and Martinelli. And I think Arsenal will be as free scoring as they were pre season which will really benefit triple Arsenal attack.

    Thoughts?

I think triple up might become necessary quickly which is why don't like Ramsdale GK option that seems so popular on here

Don't think Arsenal will score against Palace and it will be tight against Leicester. Those 10-12 goals will come from GW3 onwards.

      1. House Frey Wedding Planner
        • 5 Years

Palace away is tough. Leicester are not as stable as previous years and feel that it's a good time to play them. Do think there will be goals in both games though

Alternative strategy could be to jump around the 8.0 from the start (Kulu gw1, Foden/Mahrez gw2) and end up with Saka in gw3

The only glaring concern with the three premium approach (first time considering it last night funnily enough) is the fact you can only captain one...so it's a lot of money tied up in the other two each week!

    1. Alan Watts
      • 5 Years
      1 year, 7 months ago

Yeah agree with that, but ..

Major benefit is it can give you best captain options for first 4 weeks

      Salah
      Haaland
      Kane/Son
      ?

Also allows easy downgrades of underpeforming premium to form mid price options when landscape is clearer after to 4 weeks

      1. Alan Watts
        • 5 Years

And there are some enablers that allow it, though ofc possible they flop

yeah you've nailed it and now that I've considered it, it's hard to get away from (the 8m GK spend has helped nail this strategy for me as can go with 4 strong defenders)

I understand the concept of this, but like if the other 2 premium score well, you still gain rank anyways? You dont only gain rank from captaining a high value player

    4. Thomas Magnum
      • 8 Years
      1 year, 7 months ago

Think we'll end up with three premiums once the good budget enablers become more apparent. Just not sure it's worth starting with a three premium side whilst there is still many unknowns

      1. Andy_Social
        • 11 Years
        1 year, 7 months ago

I think premium defenders (and 5m+ keepers) will be good value throughout the season. I'm starting with 5 and don't see that changing. That means staying with 2 premiums in order to have balance in mid and fwd areas.

That’s a fair point, but every team try to do that (even the Ward/Iversen ones)

Some teams with threemium got ‘risky’ 4.5defs. Add in picks like Bailey, Perisic, Neto, Rashford, City 7-8mil mids and so on.

Personally I’ve tried to set up my team so my main concerns would be Bailey and the Leicester GK situation. Not doing early swap from Kane -> Haaland. Not gambling on city mid, not buying all of the cheap but potentiel bargains in midfield, not starting 4.5defs..

              Ward
              TAA - Robbo - Cancelo - James
              Salah - Saka - Martinelli - Bailey
              Haaland - Jesus

              (Iversen, Archer, Neco, Andreas)

I know it’s not black and white, but besides one 4.0 GK, James, Bailey and Martinelli I have a hard time spotting where I would use my FTs

Yes, I think a lot of us have Starting squads that look like they won't need much transfer activity, but that one mistake in goal will leave you needing to sacrifice an outfield player you like and at the expense of a hit.

Put it this way - if you (2x4m LEI keeper owners) are wrong, the correction (as above) will be painful.
If I am wrong: (a) Ward is on my bench so he just steps up with no disruption, and (b) I sell my main keeper for Iversen and free money.
I could save myself 1.0m to invest in my current squad, but I like it as it is, and I don't think an extra 1m would improve it.

yes bit with your (a) you could end up with the wrong 4.0 Leicester keeper if Iversen get the nod in GW1 and puts in a stellar display, and your (b) is just as many transfers as if I were wrong, or Leicester buys a goalie. The only difference being you could bank the money for your next FT while I would have to connect two transfers to correct it

    a) Andreas + Neco + 1m

    b) Neto + Neco

    c) Andreas + Trippier (issue of who to bench out of Trippier, Rashy and Bailey)

Best 6.5 mid/forward not playing for Arsenal and not named Bailey to start the season?

    A) Rashford - gray horse
    B) Neto - low ceiling
    C) JWP - bad early fixtures
    D) Trossard - bad early fixtures & low ceiling
    E) Mitrovic - underwhelming in the Premier League
    F) Other

    Thoughts on best option?

Rashy for me. Reckon he'll start in the middle with Elanga out wide this weekend.

United playing an attacking breed too.

Aaronson. Good fitures, main creative outlet, Bamford is fit again.

Think someone like Eze too shen fixtures open up after furst couple weeks.

At that price, you are unlikely to find anyone who is consistent and explosive. That said, I'm not sure I agree that Neto has a low ceiling compared to the others, or that Trossard has bad fixtures and Mitrovic is likely to underwhelm, if that helps you at all

Good food for thought, thanks. I stand corrected on Trossard and Mitro, they've had a pretty strong preseason. Keeping away from Neto though because Wolves

Can you drop to a 4.5 and best make use of the 2m in you defence?

That would have been ideal tbh. Only problem is that if I upgrade Neco (only non-premium defender) to Perisic and play 5-3-2, my bench will consist of Archer, Andreas and another 4.5

Found a way to fit him in - thoughts?

            With Perisic:
            Leicester bros
            TAA, Robbo, James, Cancelo, Perisic
            Salah, Mount, Bailey (Neto, Andreas)
            Kane, Mitrovic (Archer)

Neto rotates with Bailey (sometimes Mitro)

            WIthout Perisic:
            Leicester bros
            TAA, Robbo, James, Cancelo (Neco)
            Salah, Mount, Bailey, Rashford* (Andreas)
            Kane, Wilson (Archer)

*Rashford may become Trossard or Mitrovic by GW3 if needed

Interesting. Do you think A is still the easy choice over a pairing like Dier/Romero+Kane?

My guess is that Perisic is slightly more nailed than Doherty but both could very well carry the same risk of rotation/getting subbed off early

          Yep easy Kane/Perisic

No idea why everyone thinks he gets subbed off early. If he starts, he'll play at least 70 and then get subbed if they're up in my opinion

Easy A because Perisic is the only expected-to-play defender with anything resembling an upside. Doherty doesn’t really score/assist

2G 5A in 900 mins last season is pretty impressive from Doherty imo, he’s also been really attacking in preseason

Perisic is another level for sure though, he’s a lethal shooter and crosser. I very much prefer Son to Kane so it’s a tough one lol

Just read the article on Wolves.
For me, the shift from 3 at the back to 4 at the back is key.
In an attempt to be more attacking, the defensive aspect has been weakened a little, and we can't expect a repeat of early last season's overperformance. Hence, FPL players are right to swerve Sa and the CBs.
For the WBs/FBs better prospects in attacking returns v. worse prospects of clean sheets is a net negative for me - not only are clean sheets the bread and butter of defenders (in my book), but Wolves will still be a low-scoring side anyway.
The only asset I'm interested in is Neto and that's for his price and early fixtures, and as insurance for Peresic missing out and/or Bailey flopping.

    1. House Frey Wedding Planner

I'm swaying away from Neto. Wolves are indeed a low scoring team and look even more toothless up top without Jimenez. From their opening 3 games, I can't see them as a team scoring more than 2 goals

      1. Andy_Social
        • 11 Years
        1 year, 7 months ago

I agree. I dropped him when the news about DCL prompted me to get James and Neto, as my 1st sub, was sacrificed, but I brought him back in case Peresic doesn't play. In my ideal weeks, he doesn't get in my Starting XI. But I'd rather he stepped up than Andreas or a DaSilva sort. If KDH starts well, He'll replace Neto, but his early fixtures are horrible.

That's people who just look at the drop-down for points last season. He was top of 4.5 mids. Casuals that don't come to this site, I'd warrant.

Reed is the only regular starter, never get more than 2 points. Colback and DaSilva are on the fringes of their squads. DaSilva would be good for offensive returns when he starts but probably won't all that much. Colback a squad player covering injuries, like this GW.
