Got so lucky ystrdy. Missed deadline and had Watkins (c) frm previous gw.

Saw Raya start and Haaland blank happy days ,then Palmer did his thing and I dropped 1m places and plummeted in mls,34 pts ystrdy got me a green arrow. All by luck

Luck's the name of the game. I managed to avoid a massive drop, despite a -16 hit and not owning Palmer, by having Konate, Mbeumo, Watkins and McNeil.

The outcome of the Saka to Palmer transfer which many of us did including myself
Is a great example of by doing nothing - not making a transfer
Is actually doing something - saving a transfer
Also highlights the risks involved in taking a hit
Okay the transfer looked logical based on the short term fixtures 6-8 & might not look so bad by gw8
I think the lesson learned is only transfer out a premium when they face a difficult run of fixtures .
    Like Saka 9-11 Liverpool (h) Newcastle & Chelsea (a)

I've had them both for weeks and had Palmer VC. Last season I would have captained him for this home fixture but Haaland© hadn't blanked so far so stuck with him as captain.

Fortunately I have had Palmer for a while and had Havertz as the go to Arsenal forward. I dodged the bullet due to this I think. Saka owners might win next week all the same.

Variance over the short term is inevitable. Good or bad fixtures have less impact on attackers compared to defenders I think.

Agreed, Eze. I certainly have suffered from the availability heuristic over the last 24 hours, lamenting my wildcard, which moved me away from, among others Palmer.

This might well regress to the mean.

Diaz probably more of a minutes threat
Played 111 minutes less than the full 540 for 6 gameweeks

I have no idea if one could establish through an algorithm whether no Haaland players can work out, by comparing additional TV how it has affected people individually.
I have been getting a hiding with not owning Haaland until yesterday. Having Salah and Palmer, with Watkins and Havertz up top, I gained rank considerably.
Likewise, 2 GW's ago I got 19 points which put me where I was in the first place.
We will only know individually, using the impact additional funds available, how one got any benefit. It seems the value in an alternative heavy hitter paid this week if you got the right one; but the low value picks available have allowed Haaland owners to benefit until now.
There is a swing to good fixtures for Citeh going forward and it might be considered madness to go without Haaland. Captaining him is another argument altogether and the game vs Newcastle showed he was human.
The bottom line, is there a way we can avoid him and go for Salah/Palmer/Saka/Son in his place with rotating good fixtures. Anyone doing the Hokey Cokey will eventually suffer with TV. If you have him, you captain him.

Its pretty simple really. Calculate how many points you expect Palmer to get, how many for Haaland. Then work out who is better value, remembering they are perma captained.

      My team

      Pope
      Trippier TAA Robertson saliba gabriel
      Palme Diaz Son
      Solanke Watkins

      Bench

      Vardy + Fodder

The media is so cruel towards Ten Hag, and have been for a while. They seem to want him sacked, it seems really personal to them.
The media's treatment of him just leaves a sour taste, whether or not you think he should be sacked or not, it's over the top.

He's spent over £600m on some of the worst signings in Prem history and his tactics are nonexistent. Nothing to do with "club mentality" - he's a poor manager with an even worse talent ID.

Rashford single-handedly bailed him out in his first season and is the closest thing we have to a 'star' and Martial was on £250kpw and injured at the drop of a hat, so it's not hard to see why we wouldn't sell and couldn't sell respectively.

I get all that, but exactly the same was said about Ole, no tactics. Who is making these decisions on who to appoint? Either the club has poor squad mentality which shows as not having fight or unity on the pitch, or the ownership is getting duped into appointing dud managers that are out of their depth

Ole had tactics - they were just extremely basic and revolved around counter-attacking, which will only get you so far. It's the main reason we used to do so well against City and struggle against the 'minnows'.

The squad having no fight or unity again falls on the manager.

The club's been ran by accountants for about 15 years mate. It's only this summer that we've actually employed any football people, and they've hardly had time to make any real change.

Good that theres change happening then.
surely United with all their history can attract a top tier manager. Im no United fan but its sad to see players not playing for the shirt, sure the manager should take some blame for that but players should too

What 'top tier' managers are out there and available? That's the problem and the main reason why we didn't sack him in the summer. Personally I think we end up with Ruud at interim (probably over the international break after Villa pump us) and go for McKenna.

Mckenna would be good, theres a bunch of Italian and German managers jobless, prehaps not all "top tier" but they would whip them into shape. Mckenna is worth a shot

Doesn't every manager build their squad though, and play their tactics?
The media could just as easily target Howe, ONeill, Dyche, Lopetegui etc etc but they don't. But it's a free pass on Ten Hag? It just feels relentless.

I agree it is cruel and distasteful. If someone is underperforming in other jobs in most other walks of live it wouldn’t happen. As distasteful and vile as the media are, you can presume he knew this before accepting the role.

But.. a football managers job is comparable to another football managers job. Whilst your point is clearly saying you want Ten Hag sacked, which is fine by the way, the point is should the media be echoing it. Should they be allowed to gang up relentlessly on Ten Hag, literally writing that he should be sacked the day after whenever they lose, when they don't do it to any other fellow premier league manager pier.

              1. x.jim.x

I haven't seen anyone in the media saying he should be sacked.

What other managers in the league are comparable to Ten Hag in terms of spend and time at the club? There's only really Pep and Arteta, and it's not even funny how HUGE the difference in quality is.

I really think you're being overly-sensitive. A football manager's job is one of the most scrutinised in the world and especially so when you're playing at a club with huge expectations. The club's just put in one of the worst performances I've ever seen so of course he's going to get slaughtered for it, especially when it's just another in a long line of many awful performances.

      2. GreennRed
        • 13 Years

If someone is someone is underperforming in other jobs they won't have media highlighting it. But they'll be held accountable for performing below agreed targets, given a timeframe to improve things and then asked to leave if it doesn't improve. Sancho starting fairly well at Chelsea is, rightly or wrongly, not putting Ten Hag in a good light.

No one is saying results are good enough but we're 6 games into the season.

Exactly like you say, the media have their favourites and because he doesn't blow smoke up their ****s they're against him.

Funny thing is most are either failed managers (Shearer), never had the bottle to try (Lineker) or even worse those geeks who've never kicked a ball like that chinless sadsack from the Athletic. Ponce.

He, at long last has been given the 10 role. He has previously operated out wide. It took Dyche nearly 3 years plus the time at Burnley to notice the glaringly obvious. A sweet foot and not reliant on pace will project him into a far better asset.
