With Gameweek 38 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) nearing, our pundits are finalising their teams before Sunday’s deadline.

FPL General, who has three top 500 finishes to his name, has been without Erling Haaland (£14.7m) all season. Here, he outlines his plans for the week ahead.

Gameweek 37 went well. The Troops scored 73 points, resulting in a rise from 538k to 464k. My best rank of this season was 434k in Gameweek 32, so it would be nice to finish the campaign with another green arrow that gets closer to 400k.

Currently, the plan is to win FPL outright next season, after this experimental one. Erling Haaland is already locked in my Gameweek 1 squad for 2026/27!

Overall, I’ve enjoyed the experience. Going into each Gameweek with differences to the template felt very refreshing. FPL can feel very stale at times, with everyone making the same decisions.

I’m going to try carrying that into next season – looking for an edge with differentials – but I will be going back to a normality where there are no self-imposed player restrictions.

So, I’m more excited about a new season than I have been for ages, which tells me I’ve accomplished my goal. After all, they do say that a change is as good as a rest.

If you haven’t enjoyed 2025/26, which I know is the case for many, I recommend permitting yourself to play differently and have more fun with it next time.

Last weekend, captain Bruno Fernandes (£10.4m), new signing Bukayo Saka (£10.0m), Elliot Anderson (£5.7m) and Ollie Watkins (£8.7m) were my heroes.

It would’ve been a sensational Gameweek if Virgil van Dijk’s (£6.0m) haul could have come off the bench, but it wasn’t to be. I was praying that Nico O’Reilly (£5.3m) would miss out again.

However, keeping faith in Igor Thiago (£7.3m) and Jarrod Bowen (£7.7m) hasn’t gone to plan, as both have blanked in four of their last five appearances. Let’s hope they can finish the season off by getting on the scoresheet.
