The Numbers Game – The Underachievers

This week’s Numbers Game article for Members will be the first of a regular that’s delivered every six Gameweeks to assess those players who are showing up strongly in terms of performance, but are flatly failing to deliver the Fantasy returns expected.

Using the Opta data available to Members, we’ve analysed Defending, Attacking, Passing and Set-Piece involvement to isolate the individuals who may not have got their bandwagons rolling just yet, but clearly have the potential to attract investment in the near future.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Yep, Adebayor was woeful and dragged off midway through the second half. Mancini was clearly going for the win as he could've rested Tevez.

Given that there will be a 2 week break between gameweeks it should give Fabs and Arsenal enough time to access his injury so Id keep the option of allowing yourself to buy him next week open,

They've not been tight at the back since losing Cattermole to Sunderland (although he's hardly gone on and covered himself in glory).

I'm looking for a cheap defender to replace Foley (bad upcoming fixtures) or Enrique (Krul will free up .5m).

Perhaps, I should just concentrate on finding a way to get Cesc back in for GW10.

I took out Cham and AJ for Odemthingie and Nani, although you list both as suggested incomings, you don't list them as a pair??

Well Caroll and Odemwingie do rotate pretty well actually (although that wasn't by design!) but tbh i'm fairly uncomfortable about having that strikeforce.

I've been doing this strong 5 man midfield formation for a couple of weeks now and it's working fine(except I've Milner instead of Arteta)

I think i'm favouring B at the moment despite the points hit. It will enable me to keep the Fabregas option open and potentially add three more penalty takers.

I would prefer Barton becase carroll has not done much in last few games. Barton has been there before..

Hey guys. Do you have any suggestions of what i should be looking to do this week:

    My team is:

    Foster, Robinson
    Konchesky, O'Shea, Toure, Dann, Shawcross
    Adam, Gerrard, Nani, Bale, Etherington
    Drogba, Chamakh, Carroll

I've not made any transfers yet this week. Have 1 free transfer and have 2.0 in the bank.

    Thanks in advance!

Chamakh out. Tevev, obinna, or odemwingie
Solid team. I'm staying away from stoke till now though.

      Really solid team mate
If you had just a bit more for Chamakh => Tevez that team would be class!

Since I think Tevez is a MUST in the coming weeks, either
        1. take a hit now
        2. save the transfer and get him next week

Up to you, but I think he would make up the 4 point hit this week, he's been on fire!

Thanks EPL Lover. I think i will take the hit to get Tevez in, but who would you recommend downgrading and bringing in as the replacement?

            I really wouldn't touch your midfield/strikers
Only things I could think of:
Robinson => Krul (imo, Birmingham and Newcastle have best fixtures to rotate)
Drop Dann (since you already have Foster)
Or get rid of Konchesky since he's the only one of your players who is 100% out this week (I'm keeping though)

            Up to you mate!

Any suggestions on who to bench this week:

    My team is:

    Foster, Krul
    Konchesky, O’Shea, Toure, Dann, Shawcross
    Adam, Gerrard, Nani, Bale, Etherington
    Drogba, Tevez, Carroll

So far i'm thinking: Krul, Adam, Konchesky

and one of either Shawcross/Dann. Should i bench Dann with Foster being in goal?

Fulham's Clint Dempsey has been operating out of position as a striker with all of their injury worries up top. He's got a callup for the US's October friendlies and is listed as a striker on the team sheet. Good fixtures coming up too.

Am thinking of making the following changes over the next few weeks. What do you think?

    Crouch for Carroll
    Bale for Allbrighton
    Anelka for Drogba.

My thinking is that Bale has not really done much since his early flourish and Harry has talked about his best position being left back. Crouch is simply not scoring and Anelka also seems to have run dry and more importantly I think Drogba is essential.
