Following yesterday’s review of the latest movements among the goalkeepers and defenders on our Watchlist, which offers player recommendations for the next four-to-six Gameweeks, this afternoon we turn our attention to the midfielders. Swansea’s Andre Ayew is on the rise after a 13-point haul against Manchester United, while Sunderland’s Jeremain Lens moves back into our thoughts after providing attacking returns for the fourth consecutive match.

David Silva keeps his place on top of our rankings, with Manchester City’s upcoming schedule (cpl, WHM, tot, NEW, BOU, mun) still very favourable. The Spaniard, now priced at 10.2 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), grabbed his fourth assist of the campaign in the 2-0 win against Watford, although the fact he only registered one goal attempt against the Hornets is a slight concern.

Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez just about hangs onto second spot this week, with the Foxes fixtures (AVL, sto, ARS, nor, sot, CPL) still looking fairly reasonable. The 6.1-valued midfielder was forced off at half-time at Bournemouth with a back problem, but should be available for the Gameweek 5 home clash against Aston Villa. Mahrez is still the highest scoring midfielder in FPL this season with 36 points.

Although Alexis Sanchez suffered a blank once again on Saturday, his hugely impressive underlying statistics mean he keeps his place towards the top of our ladder. The Chilean has managed 15 shots from inside the box this season, five more than any other midfielder, while his 41 touches in the penalty area are nearly double the number Silva and Eden Hazard (both 21) have managed. Arsenal do face Chelsea and Man United in the next six, but the other four matches (STO, lei, wat, EVE) offer hope the 11.0-rated midfielder will soon be delivering the goods for his 12.5% ownership.

After blanking against Sunderland in Gameweek 3, Andre Ayew was transferred out by over 26,000 FPL bosses. Having registered a goal, assist and full bonus against Man United on Sunday, the Ghana international is one of the most sought-after options once again. The 7.2-priced midfielder is joint-fourth among midfielders for total goal attempts (13) and second for shots in the box (ten). With the upcoming fixtures in his favour (wat, EVE, sot, TOT, STO, avl), it’s little surprise to see the former Marseille attacker is the second most transferred in player this week, with 145,000+ Fantasy managers drafting him in.

Despite blanking in West Ham’s last two matches, where the Hammers have scored six goals, Dimitri Payet remains a good option in the mid-price bracket. The 7.6-valued playmaker created three chances at Anfield on Saturday, and should regularly be in the mix to pick up assists with set-piece duties in the locker. Although Payet has only managed two shots from inside the box, the upcoming schedule for Slaven Bilic’s side (NEW, mci, NOR, sun, cpl, CHE) offers four favourable match-ups for the Frenchman to find his form.

With Eden Hazard blanking once more against Crystal Palace, and only managing one goal attempt, we’ve made Pedro our preferred Chelsea midfield option. The Spaniard registered four shots from inside the box against the Eagles, and created five chances, one more than the Belgian. Coming in at 9.5 in FPL, the former Barcelona attacker looks much better value than the 11.4-rated Hazard at this point, although the fixtures (eve, ARS, new, SOT, AVL, whm) still look fairly tricky for the champions over the next six Gameweeks.

Yaya Toure keeps his place around halfway up the ladder despite failing to get amongst the points against Watford. The Ivory Coast international was limited to four goal attempts from outside the box on Saturday, although he did create two chances for his team-mates. As already mentioned, with City’s fixtures still very favourable, the 8.9-priced midfielder still looks a great option for Fantasy managers.

He’s been knocking on the door for a while, but Jeremain Lens has finally made it back onto the Watchlist, having scored his first goal of the season in Sunderland’s 2-2 draw at Aston Villa. The Dutch international has also bagged three assists so far this term, and with the schedule (TOT, bou, mun, WHM, wba, NEW) favourable for the Black Cats, the 6.5-rated midfielder looks a viable option, although his underlying statistics, having managed just two shots from inside the box, and created five chances, are perhaps lower than you’d expect.

One player who might offer strong value is Norwich’s Nathan Redmond. The Canaries upcoming fixtures (BOU, liv, whm, LEI, new, WBA) are somewhat mixed but, priced at 5.6 in FPL, the England U21 international has produced three shots from inside the box and created nine goalscoring opportunities so far. Redmond already has two goals and an assist to his name this season.

The big faller in this week’s update is Bournemouth’s Matt Ritchie. Now down to 5.8 in FPL, the Scotland international has yet to register attacking points, and has only created four chances for the Cherries. He’s also managed just nine penalty box touches, less than Redmond (14) and Lens (12), with the one plus point the still-favourable schedule (nor, SUN, sto, WAT), which should provide the midfielder the best possible platform to start rewarding his dwindling ownership, which now stands at just 2.5%.

Although the upcoming fixtures (wba, MUN, SWA, che, LEI, liv) aren’t in his favour, Sadio Mane remains in our thoughts after the attacker produced his best performance of the season in Southampton’s 3-0 win against Norwich, bagging two assists in an 11-point haul. The Senegal international now looks great value at 7.8 in FPL, although those difficult fixtures will probably limit any further investment.

Having registered double-digit scores in the last two Gameweeks, Crystal Palace’s Bakary Sako had to be included in our latest refresh. The former Wolves attacker has registered more shots from inside the box than any other midfielder over the last two weeks (eight), and although he faces two difficult fixtures up next (MCI, tot), the schedule thereafter (wat, WBA, WHM, lei) looks very kind for the 27-year-old, who priced at just 5.5 in FPL, offers fantastic value. The only slight concern is the competition for places in the attacking midfield positions at Selhurst Park, with Jason Puncheon, Yannick Bolasie and Wilfried Zaha all vying for spots. If Sako remains in such good form, though, it will be very hard for Alan Pardew to leave him out of the starting XI.

While Philippe Coutinho drops in our rankings because of his sending off against West Ham, which will see the Brazilian miss the trip to Old Trafford in Gameweek 5, the 8.1-rated midfielder clings onto a place on our ladder by virtue of Liverpool’s two plum home fixtures against Norwich and Aston Villa in Gameweeks 6 and 7. If the playmaker fails to produce the goods in those fixtures though, expect plenty of sales ahead of the tougher match-ups (eve, tot, SOT) that follow.

Another faller this week is Stoke’s Xherdan Shaqiri, although the Swiss international was very unfortunate on Saturday, with his chances of registering attacking returns made extremely difficult after the Potters were reduced to nine men in the first-half against West Brom. The upcoming schedule (ars, LEI, BOU, avl, swa, WAT), bar the trip to Arsenal next weekend, remains very favourable, so those 60,000 FPL owners who drafted the former Bayern Munich attacker in last week should certainly keep faith with Shaqiri for the time being.

I wonder how much gametime players who have been in the spotlight will get? Obviously Stones will retain his place as RM has been playing him anyway but what'll happen to the likes of de Gea and Berahino. Berahino is in my team too!

Have to say I agree with much of this on what's wrong with the transfer window - http://bdai.ly/RKw6

I'm really curious about de Gea, given LVG's ego he might even bench him for a period of time to show who's boss

I genuinely have no idea how they'll line up, my point was that it's hard to predict because Hodgson could pick absolutely anyone and still win easily.

Thanks anyway. Yeah, I'm aware that any lineup should succeed (if not it would be quite the spectacular mediawise) , but was more interested in who people see starting. Personally was thinking that Rooney may start given his lack of goals as a way how to get him firing.

At the end of the day I think he needs another strike around him, and I guess he won't get that in the league, unless Martial is really going to play as well.

The CL part is just fun on my side 🙂

Actually can see him do really well for England.

Against SM, for sure. I think Martial will start upfront for ManU in no time, and Roo will play support striker to him.

                  Bold predictions 🙂

I am still a bit iffy about a 19 year being able to hold that role for the season. In a year or two , yes he could be really good, jjust can't see him do it now. Plus I find LVG really despicable when it comes to player handling.

I fully agree on that last sentence. However, in no time, by which I mean in short time, like a few weeks, I expect Martial to start upfront. Depay has started from the beginning, Martial is less than 2 years younger.

Didn't realize that, you might be onto something then.
Need to look him up a bit, really curious if he has what it takes.

I think it would really help Man Utd if they got rid of LVG and either got a reknown coach with less personality issues or tried someone like Giggs. LVG will grind out the results but his personality and style of play will probably alienate both fans and players.

But I guarantee: Hodgson would never pick this, and he'll be completely happy with a 1-0 win over San Marino. I did my best to select a Pep team to keep the ball all the match and score for fun. That's not what hodgson will do, and his team probably wouldn't change to that style too easily anyway.

that's true, he seems very relctant to attack and prefers being safe at the back.

I'd still expect Rooney to start, maybe Cahill and Shaw in defense. Possibilly Clyne and Stones as well?

Tell ya whats driving me crazy, i'm allowed to vent here right? Among my other nerdy FF geeks?

In 2 of the mini leagues i'm in, one is a work one, one of the guys i work with has NO CLUE about football, every year he puts an autocomplete team in at the beginning and doesnt touch it all year. GUESS who is top of our league? From autocompelte and no changes?!?!

In another mini league, the guy who is at top usually does the Sun dream team, has no idea about this FF one, i helped him enter our league etc. he hasnt made ANY changes since beginning. He has Zouma and walcott FFS!

I was 2nd going itno last GW and used triple captain aguero to try ede back in front for our monthly highest scorer prize, that went well mind, NOT.

I had a great start, then not good now. Still ok'ish I suppose

As mentioned, the 'catch up' wasnt to catch up on the autocomplete team.

It was to 'catchup' in a league where we have prizes for monthly highest scoreres and the person who was sat at the top doesnt have aguero so thought was a good chance to win cash prize while near the top for a month.

My historin FF usually means I start well but drop down a few months in, meaning I thought i had a good chance of winning one month while near the top.

Your not going to be top scorer every single month you should have just wrote this one off. If you followed the site regularly (not sure if you do or not) then you would realise triple captain is best utilised during a dgw.

Having once lost an ML to a girl who made her team up of what she considered rude words like Seaman, Dicks, Dixon, Dichio, Le Tissier and others I forget I know what a daft team is capable of. This is a true story - Daily Mirror in the mid 90s...

Kane will come good eventually. Its great news that Spurs didn't manage to bring in another striker- he will remain their focal point. Being patient is easier to say than do though- I wildcarded last week and ditched Kane :-p.

Any suggestions for transfers this fortnight? 1 FT, 0.2 ITB

    Mignolet, McCarthy
    Kolarov, Cedric, Gomez, Azpi, Oxford
    Hazard, YYT, Ayew, Mahrez, Payet
    Aguero, Kone, Gomis

I'm thinking of bringing in Pedro and C. Wilson for Hazard and Kone (-4 hit). any advise? Hazard's price is dropping (potential pedro price rise) and i'm afraid hazard would come good.

If you were playing a game where Sanchez was classified as a striker, would you still class him in the same elite bracket? Clearly most/all would prefer say Aguero over him but how many other strikers in the league would you take over him?

Stats aren't everything. Sanchez is the type of player that will always have great stats, always looks to shoot whenever he gets the ball, even if it's well outside the box. I don't think he's exactly clinical either.

If you watch him you'd know that his stats are much better than his performances thus far

Besides, casuals don't have access to this stuff, so why are they still buying him? Haha

Another Schmeichel-McCarthy combo. How you going to feel about Kasper as your only keeper if Speroni comes back and takes the #1 spot? Will you get a chance to use a transfer to upgrade to a 4.5 option?

Bottom line is I'd want a rotation with Kasper.

    *Opinions*

Would you swap Ozil and Hazard for Ayew and Pedro or Sancez and Ayew?

p.s. im a disgruntled Arsenal fan but still want at least one arsenal player in my team

So, Gomis up to 7.4 and no doubt 7.5 before the end of the int break. Is he worth that much now? He hardly gets BAPS and I know his form is hard to ignore but once it starts to tail off he won't be a guaranteed 6 points and he if he does knick a goal there's hardly any guarantee he'll get bonus.

Is Diouf a better bet from GW6 onwards? Looking for Sakho replacements. Wilson is another but by then he only has a few favourable fixtures left

Swansea are playing well. Gomis has scored every game and is on pens. Bound to get a brace here and there too. With ayew doing well also, nothing wrong with a double up at those prices in the short term at least.

I think diouf is good shout
loads of set up players behind him now, proven ability to score against most teams and has ability to get bigger hauls so even offers the punty captain option

    Pretty template but:

    Butland, Lindegaard
    Bellerin, Kolarov, Soares, Naughton, Muniesa
Silva, De Bruyne, Payet, Mahrez, Ayew
    Diouf, Wilson, ???

Would leave 12.2 in the bank to splash out on a striker, although I've been a bit unconvinced by Aguero. Thoughts?

I can get to this 352 squad if I WC 😯

    4.5 [4.0]
    Kolarov, Gomez, 4.5/4.5, [4.0]
    Hazard, Sanchez, Sterling, Depay, Mahrez
    Aguero, Wilson [4.4]

This sort of temptation is why I just want the international break to be over already.
