Misfiring heavy hitters, first dates, hip-hop and goalkeeper troubles were amongst this week’s eclectic collection of hot topics. Luckily our community writers and regulars were on hand with key advice, offering some key names to consider for the captaincy and some dubious dating advice. Our Members tables look at the best and worst team performances while we also bring you news from our community tournaments, both new and long-established.

The Community Articles

Team form so far came under The Sarjeant’s gaze this week as he looks at the best performers as well as a key player set for an upturn in fortunes over the coming weeks.

Full-backs have certainly been enjoying some strong form, according to Innsie’s look at baseline bonus allocation so far in Fantasy Premier League. For this he has stripped away Bonus Point System points for goals, assists and clean sheets to reveal the best all-round defenders.

Elsewhere, Your Mum’s Athletic dropped by with his Gameweek 5 predictions based on bookies odds and Rodellegabomb cast his eye over three of the week’s most interesting bandwagons.

Finally, The3rdTurd spent the week constructing some quite breath-taking graphs in his Members-only community article looking at radars and bubbles within players’ underlying statistics.

Congratulations to Jarvish for being named by you as the best community writer in August, for his two forward thinking articles, looking at how to get the best out of double Gameweeks, chips, wildcards and the FA Cup calendar. He wins a £20 Amazon voucher.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Amongst the key conundrums ahead of Gameweek 5 is where to place the captaincy armband, particularly with so many heavy hitters misfiring in recent weeks. For those keeping faith in their premium picks, Ludo was on hand to compare the merits of two leading contenders, Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez, as well as assess how Aguero performs without David Silva, in light of the Man City midfielder’s absence through injury this weekend.

Later in the week, Ludo also turned his attention to goalkeeper form, with the conclusion that playing away to a tough side can sometimes be a blessing in disguise.

There was further armband advice this week from Rhino, in his captaincy strategy discussion, although one player that is unlikely to find any suitors is Wayne Rooney. Despite becoming England’s top goal scorer this week, many in our community believe the United skipper no longer has what it takes to lead the line for club or country.

Wakey, however, is keeping the faith and has selected him for his Gameweek 5 Falling Stars XI, where entry is only for those players whose price has dipped since Gameweek 1.

On this week’s Scoutcast Mark revealed he is considering playing the Fantasy Premier League (FPL)’s All Out Attack chip this week due to the lack of potential clean sheets. But Ryan believes that Gameweek 38, when clean sheets are historically in short supply, could be a better time to use this chip. There was further discussion on chips, including some tales from those who have used them already, in our hot topic on these added extras in FPL.

Aleksandar Kolarov’s recent potent attacking displays  could be another reason for holding onto the All out Attack chip, as the Manchester City left back is arguably performing like a midfielder anyway. In our article on the longevity of the current bandwagons, Dootlitte was amongst those quick to take me to task for my assessment of the Serbian’s abilities.

Rhysybball took fan mail to new levels this week with his pitch perfect Eminem themed ode to Granville. With 229 votes at the time of writing, this is already amongst our most popular posts of all time. Dush64 kindly took on the role of Dido after I declined to attempt an impression of the singer on the Scoutcast this week.

Finally, the smooth operators among the community were out in full force to offer some top dating tips Fantasy Football style to Your Mum’s Athletic as he prepared for a first date. Let’s hope he treated our advice – which included asking your date about captaincy and wildcard strategies – with caution.

The Members Tables

The top attacking teams are the subject of thedabin’s latest Members table. Other notable tables to keep an eye on include my goals imminent one which focuses on attackers who have yet to deliver on very strong underlying stats. Elsewhere, Doosra’s Dodgy defences table offers a handy insight into the weakest backlines for those still pondering who to captain.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Following Gameweek 4 Mr Robot leads the way in @OCProdigy’s Scout Picks Challenge, which is based around our own Scout Picks. He is closely followed by Konig Luther, TM245 and Balders who are all joint second.

The group draw for Jaffalicious’s FFS UEFA Champions League has now been made. To find out which is the group of death and which will be a breeze visit here.

Balders brought us news of an American-style play offs competition he is launching, with qualifying getting underway from Gameweek 6.  There is another new tournament in the offing, this time organised by Jarvish and aimed at helping to halt those international break blues over the season.

Meanwhile, Niclas Andersson is the man to beat in the Top 10K Any Season league, which is run by Redlightning. He sits at the summit on 224 points. Niclas also leads the FFS Old Farts Club, the Long and Winding Road main league and is third in the FFS Members League.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Wow have you seen the transfer stats over the Int break

    Ayew 328000 (21% ownership)
    Wilson 298000 (23% ownership)

A lot of movement but not much price change

I got 2FTs and 1.8 ITB. Have absolutely no clue where to use 1 FT in this team:

    Myhill(!), McCarthy(!)
    Darmian, Kolarov, Williams, Cathcart, Muniesa
    Sanchez, Silva(!), Ayew, Mahrez, Westwood
    Aguero, Gomis, Diouf (!)

Don't want to sell Silva and no point selling my GKs when not certain about their situation..Where else you suggest using 1 FT? -

    a) Catchcart -> Francis
    b) Darmian -> Shaw
    c) something else - will be great if you can suggest what?

    A Huth
    B Cedric
    C Azpi
    D Francis

I need to bench one of them. Have got C sitting it out at the moment. Somehow this feels wrong and is niggling at me, but I'm thinking that might just be shock at the defensive start by Chelsea.

Do you think C is wise?

    Thanks

Messed up my first message, so here goes with my second one. My team is

    Hart
    Koscielny - Kolarov - Bellerin - Gomis
    Silva - Cazorla - Ayew
    Aguero - Rooney - Pelle

Looking at changing Gomis for Blind, Aguero for Lukaku and Rooney for Gomis.

    Any thoughts?
