After assessing the Defence and Midfield numbers over the last four matches, we turn our attentions to up front this evening. A number of double Gameweek options arrive under analysis, including Everton, City and Newcastle’s main men, whilst we also compare Arsenal and United’s strikers and doff our cap to Tottenham’s man of the moment after a series of scintillating displays.

  1. Is Sanchez worth his price tag?

For anyone deciding whether to include Sanchez in your wildcard teams, here are some numbers to consider.

With at least one of Giroud and Welbeck on the pitch this season (all competitions), Sanchez has scored a goal every 462 minutes (3 with only Giroud and 1 with both). With neither of them on the pitch, he’s scored a goal every 106 minutes (7 total in about 1100 fewer minutes).

Sanchez’s assist numbers are significantly better when he plays with Giroud and/or Welbeck, but not nearly enough to make up for the decrease in goal scoring. Across all competitions, he’s averaging an assist every 231 minutes with either of those guys on the pitch (every 254 minutes with Giroud and every 185 minutes with Welbeck), but just one every 370 minutes without either of those guys on the pitch.

With both Giroud and Welbeck healthy for a change, it’s safe to assume most of Sanchez’s minutes will come with at least one of those guys on the pitch. In fact, Sanchez hasn’t played without them since Welbeck returned to action in GW26. Considering that, is it worth 10.8M to fit him into our teams?

I currently have him, but if WCing next week he probably goes.

3 ARS looks essential, and if Gabriel starts and keeps a cleanie this week, I think Gabriel, Bellerin and Ozil looks the way to go.

I will caveat that with "Sanchez is explosive though, so it could massively backfire"

Im quite comfortable having alexis, ozil and an arsenal defender, with the fixtures, and alexis finding form as well

but that leaves no space for Aguero, Lukaku, keeping Kane and... some other compromises?

It's worth noting that if you watch Sanchez he always looks extremely dangerous and has been very unlucky in a lot of games (for instance vs. Stoke at home he hit the post twice).

On current form I don't think he's anywhere near worth it. Lots of much better options across the double Gameweek teams and even single gameweek options. With his underlying stats, watching how he plays in the side, lack of penalties and given Ozil's bigger assist potential I'd say Sanchez is playing like an 8m player. If he was that price I'd take him for the double, but at 10.8m I have to ask myself am I better off spending that extra 2.5m or so elsewhere and getting Firmino/Payet instead.

Current form suggests that Welbeck is a better fpl points prospect. FPL points is after all what this is about.

He is the best differential left in the game with 6 gameweeks left so I will definitely be taking the risk.

Alexis is not the problem for me because he has a game gw35.
Problem is that I want Dann, Payet, Lennon/Barkley, Lukaku and even Rashman for gw34.

      1. Biancazzurri

exactly. but... it's similar situation with Ozil (who's 1.1 - 1.3 cheaper, but still expensive). and then you think to yourself: can I do without Arsenal midfield?

and we all know the answer... and I'd surely be more confident/excited going into the double with Sanchez.

    9. KOLASINA(C)

Nope, he is not worth it, when there is a better player on the pitch next to him and with lower price. Ozil is more consistent, while Sanchez is not that explosive this season.

      1. Biancazzurri
        • 13 Years

seeing is believing. we all saw signs of Sanchez's potential explosiveness in recent gwk's and witnessed Ozil's lack of involvement.

        form surely tells us something.

what we all could be asking ourselves, based on form, is OZIL worth his price tag?

Yep, Spurs look the most free scoring team right now, so a double/triple up in attack could be the way to go in 35, especially when a lot may not have any.

Which of the 3 routes do you think looks best?

I follow, some top differential in play.

              thinking outside the box 🙂

A or B, Bolasie is a bit punty and i'm not sold on that myself yet, and Barkley hasn't been in form.

              B. is probably the best bet, Smalling nailed, having a punt on Bolasie

Cheers. If Gabriel was nailed I think C is the standout, but I'm not convinced on that yet. C is the only option with a LIV attacker for (EVE/bou, NEW) and a triple Spurs attack for 35. Also means I don't lose Kane for 33-34, and he's bang in form.

Has just 12 double players and foxes defender, mahrez/ali and kane really become the new template?

This seems strange for a number of reasons, not least the fact that you're essentially bench boosting three single players which you could have done in any gameweek.

But here's the main rub. I think we can all agree the stand out triple captain options are in 34 (ozil, sanchez - hello). So if you don't want to break the balance of your squad - why not play triple captain in 34 and use your wildcard/free transfers to play your bench boost in 37 when hardly anybody will?

This could be a major differential

I'm not doing this - I'm wildcarding on to 14 doubles and Mahrez - I'm just trying to help you people live a little

    You're welcome - 🙂

This is my thinking as well. The bench boost in GW34 means bringing in a lot of iffy players in terms of game time and form (i.e. Rojo, Gabriel, Martial etc..). Only thing is - TC on Lukaku in GW33 appears just as enticing as Sanchez/Özil in GW34. Would mean a GW32 WC , though.

      1. Mitchacho

Tempted to TC Lukaku in 33, AoA in 34, WC in 36 and BB in 37!!

Also a good plan, if you can field sufficient DGW players for GW34 (I can't 😉 )

          1. Mitchacho
            • 15 Years
            9 years, 8 months ago

Current plan would have me field:

            Cech (Robles)
            Bellerin, Dawson (Simpson, Alderweireld, VVD)
            Ozil, Silva, Antonio, Milner, Mahrez
            Kun, Lukaku, Kane

            1. Pompel
              • 11 Years
              9 years, 8 months ago

Would follow that plan over the template WC33 BB34 strategy. I'm unfortunately a couple of FT's short to choose that strategy, and already played my AoA.

          this

I'm not advocating wildcarding in 36 personally - I think people now can easily build a very strong wildcard team (with five transfers in the bank) now to get 14 double players for 37

I'm not doing this. I'm on wildcard now, tripling lukaku in 33 and boosting 34

I'll worry about my wreckage of a 35 team after that...

          1. Pompel
            • 11 Years
            9 years, 8 months ago

Wildcarding now also very tempting due to Lukaku TC, and getting in Barkley for DGW33 and 34. But make sure that you have Mahrez + a decent captain (Kane/Kun) for GW35!

        3. Amateur Pundit Zan
          • 12 Years
          9 years, 8 months ago

          Sorry misread
Yes can do that but it's hard together from 11 in wk35 to 15 in wk37 with only 3ft and only Liverpool, Sunderland and Chelsea covering both

    5. Mitchacho
      • 15 Years

Because they've been committed to a GW33 WC GW34 BB for some time and have left it too late to do anything otherwise! I've been planning for weeks now to be able to maximise my amount of double gameweekers in GW34 whilst saving my WC and BB for later, yet injuries have limited me now to just 9 dgwers. Can only imagine how bad the situation would be for others.

    Payet's last five scores at home (when playing over 60mins);

    5, 2, 3, 3, 6

    Antonio's;

    8, 5, 11, 11, 11

West Ham have three home fixtures in their next four, and both fixtures are at home for DGW37. 5.4m sits on the bench a lot nicer than 8.3m too.

I'd pick Zaha over Bolaise if I had to choose between the two. Zaha still has hopes for a push for the england spot and generally speaking is a better end product person than Bolaise. Plus the extra value tips it for him. I wouldn't have both of them. I wanted Zaha in my wc team but I don't want to take a hit and with a palace player for 33 means a hit for 37.

I'm avoiding palace altogether. When McCarther comes back that's the time to reinvest in them. He should be back for Arsenal.

that's a fair point - I kinda meant that - I worked out the average 11 players to score around 80-90 that week (taking in to account 7-8 doubles)

like you say, I don't care what my actual score is - but I MUST make up 30 points absolute min (and ideally 40 plus) on the two guys above me in my mini league - one of which doesn't have a wild card and one which doesn't have a bench boost.

To get Sanchez in I have to make sacrifice. With or without Sanchez. A or B?

    a) Sanchez Bolasie Reid Souare
    b) Firmino Barkley Bellerin Ward

add ward to A and that's the choice

that tight eh? you can't eek out the extra 0.1?

(I assume you already have arsenal defensive cover as well)

Hate to say it but B looks more rounded. If you think Sanchez will continue his trickle of form I'd go B - but I'm gambling on a big haul for the Chilean and making sure he's in my squad. I guarantee no-one else will have him which is a big incentive for me.

Just had a look at Ryan's hot topic and it got me thinking, it's quite a good strategy. I've tweaked it a bit but is this a decent WC team for next GW?

    Robles - Elliot
    Smalling - Sakho - Dann - Gabriel - Jaanmat
    Ozil - Firmino - Payet - Barkley - Bolasie
    Aguero - Kane - Lukaku

    What is it lacking/need fixed?

      very solid

Only other option I can see without destroying the team is swapping Bolasie and Gabriel for Lennon and Bellerin, but that means changing GK as well

  16. Dr Kenneth Noisewater
    • 12 Years

This week I'm thinking a one week Courtois punt to replace my beloved Butland - sound good?

Then GW33 WC leads me to this...

    DDG - Elliot
    Kos - Bellerin - Jagielka - Olsson - Moreno
    Sanchez - Firmino - Coutinho - Payet - Lanzini
    Aguero - Lukaku - Perez

    £1.9m ITB

My main concerns are Olsson, Moreno and Perez - any upgrades you'd suggest? I am hoping for a 15 man DGW squad for GW34.

    Point predictions here?

    A) Smalling (AVL, CPL) + Bolasie (NOR, EVE, ars, mun)

    B) Smalling (AVL, CPL) + Bolasie (NOR, EVE) + Antonio (WAT, lei) -4 points

    C) Rojo (AVL, CPL) + Barkley (wat, cpl, SOT, liv)

Me and my mate were discussing this. If you know a main rival is going to triple him do you captain him yourself (knowing that essentially he will have 2 free games of points over you)

Or do you gamble on someone else to try and outscore him?

    5. Pompel

In itself an excellent choice. Question is if it is better than triple captaining Sanchez in GW34, also taking into account possible weakening of team in GW32.

    Hello you guys ! 😀

Need some advice before next gameweek:

    De Gea

    Fuchs Alderweireld Williams
    Sigurdsson Mahrez Payet Firminho
    Kane Aguero Vardy

    Rudd, Eriksen, Nyom, Targett

    FT= 1 ITB= 0,3

Bellerin for Alderweireld? Other solutions ?

    Thanks for helping me out!

Are you planning to WC anytime soon?

You could possibly replace Siggy/Eriksen with someone for just a few weeks if you plan to wildcard. If not, Toby to Bellerin is probably a good solution. 🙂

Morning! I think this team pretty much covers all bases DGW 33x3 DGW34x11 DGW37x9+ now without causing hits over the coming weeks. Funes Mori and Rashford out in gw35 so I can field 11 then too Rashford back for 37. Obviously all this is rotation and injury permitting.

    Schmeichel/Robles

Bellerin Azpilicueta Darmian Funes Mori Daniels

    Ozil Mahrez Silva Payet Coutinho

    Aguero Rashford Lukaku

Alright lads, time for you to pick apart this 32 WC and see if i've missed anything, i believe this is about 2/3 hits.
    Anything you would advise against?

    Migs/Robles

    Dann > PVA for 35
    Gabriel
    Smalling
    Sakho
    Rojo > Azpi in 35

    Payet
    Mahrez > Antonio in 36
    Alexis > Barkley in 37
    Coutinho
    Lennon >> Ozil in 34

    Aguero > Costa in 37
    Lukaku
    Deeney

    Robles - Elliot
    Rojo - Bellerin - Moreno - Janmaat - Jags
    Antonio - Firmino - Ozil - Sanchez - Bolasie
    Lukaku - Aguero - Mitrovic

    GW34 - Bolasie > Coutinho
    GW35 - Rojo > PVA

    Gives me 4 DGW'ers for 33, 15 for 34 and a starting XI for 35.
