Alexis Sanchez strikes a timely double with Theo Walcott providing an able midfield sidekick as Arsenal see off Bournemouth. Meanwhile, the Saints’ Charlie Austin’s ascent as a mid-price frontman is proving hard to ignore, as another blank from Everton’s Romelu Lukaku sees his transfer exodus pick up pace. Here’s the Stock Check from Sunday’s quartet of matches.

On the Rise

Alexis Sanchez
The Chilean followed Sergio Aguero’s lead by bagging a brace as Arsenal got the better of Bournemouth at the Emirates.

Doubts had been mounting over Sanchez’ value for money – he’d blanked in five of the previous six and had scored just once at home prior to Sunday’s performance.

With Olivier Giroud back on the bench, though, Sanchez was deployed as the central striker once again and served a timely reminder of his armband potential by producing a fifth double-figure haul of the season.

In a weekend when Kevin De Bruyne was benched for City’s trip to Burnley and Philippe Coutinho’s ankle injury potentially sparking a major exodus, Sanchez’ appeal has clearly been boosted by recent events.

Theo Walcott
Utilised as a sub against PSG in midweek, Walcott was reinstalled to Arsene Wenger’s first XI for the Cherries’ encounter.

The wide man has how started 12 of the opening 13 league fixtures – only missing the Gameweek 10 trip to Sunderland with a minor injury.

Today’s haul takes him onto 71 points – that’s fifth amongst midfielders and just two behind Roberto Firmino.

Having managed just two 10+ points hauls, Walcott may lack Sanchez’ explosive appeal, yet, at a price of 7.8, he continues to offer excellent value for money in the mid-price bracket.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
After netting twice at Swansea in Gameweek 11, the big Swede took his tally to three goals in his last two as he hints at a step up in consistency.

Indeed, this was the first time Ibrahimovic has scored in back-to-back top-flight appearances since Gameweek 2, having missed last week’s clash with Arsenal due to suspension.

After a series of inconsistent displays, it’ll take more than today’s goal to convince many to reconsider Ibrahimovic, yet with some fine fixtures to follow, he’s likely to remain United’s chief attacking force over the festive period.

Charlie Austin
The Southampton forward took his tally to six goals in nine Gameweeks by netting a quick-fire winner against Everton earlier this afternoon.

Despite being devoid of both Dusan Tadic and Sofiane Boufal, Claude Puel was once again able to rely on Austin to carry the Saints’ main threat – he has now been involved in 77.8% of his side’s goals when on the pitch.

Having started each of the last eight, any concerns over Austin’s minutes look unfounded. With clashes against Palace, Middlesbrough, Stoke and Bournemouth in the next four, he looks well set to keep on delivering value for money at just 6.8.

Cedric Soares
Southampton’s right-back continues to look like a lucky charm for Puel.

A 1-0 win over Everton means that the Saints have chalked up a clean sheet in each of the last five league matches that Cedric has started.

Priced at just 4.9, he’s the cheapest route into the St Mary’s rearguard and underlined his value for money by also chipping in with two bonus points today.

Having also kept out Liverpool last week, Southampton’s defence looks ripe for investment right now, with Puel’s outfit set for some excellent upcoming fixtures to augment their appeal.

Dimitri Payet
The Frenchman’s cross for Diafra Sakho’s opener at Old Trafford means he now has six assists in 11 appearances.

Considering he managed a total of 13 assists last season, Payet’s upturn in creative output is worth monitoring. Indeed, he has now provided 11 key passes more than any player over the first 13 Gameweeks.

Granted, West Ham’s next two matches – against Arsenal and Liverpool – may persuade many to overlook him for now.

Nonetheless, the schedule from Gameweek 16 onwards, which kick starts with back-to-back home clashes against Burnley and Hull, could see that 9.7% FPL ownership climb sooner rather than later.

In Decline

Romelu Lukaku
It’s one goal in the last five fixtures now for the Everton frontman, who is already the most transferred out forward in the Gameweek by some margin.

Even the underlying numbers afford little optimism – a single off-target free-kick was all Lukaku had to offer today as the Toffees’ slide down the table continues.

With clashes against United, Arsenal and Liverpool in the next four, the big Belgian seems set for a significant exodus as the schedule turns against Ronald Koeman’s side.

Olivier Giroud
Despite netting for the fifth time in as many appearances with a strike against PSG, the Frenchman remains unable to find a way into the Arsenal first XI in the Premier League.

Many expected Giroud to start up after he led the line in midweek but he was again utilised off the bench and has yet to start a league match this season.

Granted, he supplied a late assist to vindicate the 50,000+ transfers in last week but with Sanchez and Walcott grabbing the goals, Giroud remains no more than a Plan B.

Wenger’s post-match confirmation that Giroud picked up a hamstring problem and is set to be assessed merely strengthens the idea that Sanchez will remain the central striker for next week’s trip to West Ham.

Carl Jenkinson
We’d expected the Arsenal right-back to offer a decent short-term option in the absence of Hector Bellerin but, having started against PSG in midweek, Jenkinson was omitted from the squad altogether this afternoon.

Wenger was made to rue his decision to start Mathieu Debuchy when the Frenchman limped off within 20 minutes due to a hamstring injury, with Gabriel his replacement. Jenkinson may well be handed a reprieve for next week’s clash with the Hammers but with Bellerin expected back in mid-December, the former looks best avoided.

Wilfried Bony, Bojan
Bony and Bojan were marked as the fall guys for last week’s home loss to Bournemouth as both dropped down to the bench for the Potters’ trip to Watford.

Bony had started nine straight matches since arriving on loan from Man City but with midweek reports suggesting that his parent club could sell the Ivorian over the winter window, Mark Hughes opted to bench him despite switching tactics and opting for two up front.

Bojan’s omission was just as surprising, given that Joe Allen sat out today’s fixture due to suspension. Installed to the starting XI for the first time in seven Gameweeks last weekend, the Spaniard’s immediate demotion is indicative of how far he’s fallen under Hughes this season.

Allen owners, meanwhile, will be optimistic he could return to the role in “the hole” at home to Burnley next weekend after he was shifted to the double-pivot against the Cherries last time out.

Juan Mata
We had hopes that Juan Mata could emerge as a viable option but the Spaniard was hauled off just after the hour-mark against West Ham, suggesting his minutes will continue to be in question. That’s likely a symptom of Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s return to the United reckoning which could dent Mata’s pitch time from here on.

Other than the fixture (Swans - H), there is no special reason to pick Kane as of now, right? Spurs aren't scoring many goals and Kane haven't been any good. Or am I missing something?

25 last year, 3 in his last 3 after returning from injury even in a side not in great form. 3 amazing fixtures as you mention (Swansea/Hull/Burnley) against teams conceding quite a bit. Can't really get much better than that for a monthly investment.

Valid point on the fixtures, specially as they are at home. But his underlying stats aren't that good, and I personally don't like adding penalty goals into consideration. Also as you mentioned, the team isn't in great form. Considering him vs Costa.

Kane consistently essential over the last 2 seasons so why not beat the bandwagon. Swansea Hull Burnley at home in his next 4 screams goals

Think I found my transfer - have exact money for:

      STONES, GUNDOGAN, LUKAKU ----->

      NYOM, PHILLIPS, KANE.

      For a -4.

Would captain Kane this week, and own Kane/Aguero/Costa

Agree, very natural captaincy choice. As the other big hitters have harder fixtures. But, form over fixtures? 😉

Other transfer option is GUNDOGAN + LUKAKU out for Siggy / Austin.

Then I don't have a natural (C) option this week unless I put it on Austin away at Crystal Palace or Aguero at home against Chelsea...

I have Alonso, Hazard and Costa. Firmino + Walcott.

          Current team w/ 2 FTs and 0.2m:

          Pickford, Jak
          Alonso-Lovren-Stones-Kelly-Amat
          Hazard-Firmino-Walcott-Gundogan-De Roon
          Aguero-Costa-Lukaku

I could get the Kane-Aguero-Costa front line if I sell three players (Lukaku, Gundogan, Stones) that are ALL set to drop in value tonight. That would be a -4 but save me 0.3m in lost team value.

I would bring in Kane, Phillips, Nyom.

The other option is to just get rid of Gundogan and Lukaku for Siggy and Austin - less sexy but both in form and no -4.

What complicates this is who would I captain this gameweek?

You actually tripled up on CFC. That possible front 3 seems lovely.

Nice team! What makes things hard for me is that I have Sanchez, and want to keep him. Which means I can only get one of the following three: Kane, Costa or Hazard. Making way is Lukaku and Coutinho.

Yeah, the captain choice for the upcoming week is hard. Personally I often make the mistake of think to much about the fixture. And i always get slapped in the face by the in-form player who also showes he can score against a better side.

For me the (C) is the most important part of the game. I've been wrong most of the year (including this week with Firmino over Aguero after having Aguero all week and then seeing his "doubt" with a foot problem), but if you get it right, and feel confident, it can change an entire season. This is how I view Kane in the next few weeks.

                Haha, that sucks.
But I get you're point. But who isn't it a bit stupid not having and CFC-players?

The fixtures and his record from the last couple of seasons make him very tempting, but personally I can't fit him into my squad with budget tied up in Aguero, Sanchez and Hazard. I would say if your heavy hitters seem more essential than Kane (whether it be because of form and/or fixtures), I would avoid and spend funds to strengthen elsewhere.

Gundogan will definitely start against Chelsea - Pep loves him from Bundesliga and was a big money signing. Toure good against mid-table PL fodder. That said, will Gundo get past Kante/Matic and not be rotated over Xmas when he is used to a German "winter" break? Not so sure... Plan to sell myself...

Francis (LIV) to Cedric (cry) worth (-4)?

Nah. Like him as a long term option and was going to bring him in as well this week.

Palace is 5th in terms of goals scored after Liverpool, City, Chelsea and Arsenal. Still a good chance of a clean sheet of course, as Soton have looked fairly solid at the back in the last few. Not sure if it worth a hit, as Cedric HAS to get a CS for it to be worth is. Worst case scenario Liverpool could be without Coutinho, Lallana, Sturridge and possibly Firmino, so wouldn't completely rule out a bournemouth CS at home.

Francis only option to play unless getting in Cedric?

Holebas away to Brom Brom and they have been scoring goals and he's flagged too because of some knock.
              Amat against Spurs.
I just feel Soton can keep a few clean sheets as their fixtures are really good and it will pay off in the future.

Definitely like Cedric as an option. Great value I think with their upcoming fixtures.

I just decided not to get him in for a hit at least (tripling up again on WBA), but it could of course be a good move if you have very few decent options and want him long term.

Brought in Siggy and Kane (-4)

          Pickford
          Macauley Walker Clyne (Alonso Francis)
          Sanchez Siggy Zaha Hazard (Bolasie)
          Kane Benteke Costa

Not mad on my Zaha and Benteke double up for this week but they have Hull after that so they stay...and not sure whether to risk benching Alonso.

Evening all! Cheers to Team Cruel for your opinion on the last page, but I thought I might gather a few more before I pull the trigger!

          Grant Pickford
          Walker McAuley Holebas Pieters Amat
          Sanchez Hazard Firmino Sigurdsson Capoue
          Aguero Lukaku Anichebe

          1FT £1m ITB

With Lukaku dropping tonight (which loses me 0.1 SV), and not enough in the bank to get Kane, would it be a good interim move to replace him with Austin? I always regretted getting Wilson instead of him in my GW6 wildcard. I had been planning on freeing up some budget to fund getting a Chelsea defender in next week, but wonder if this would leave my forward line too light. Looks like I can't easily fit Kane in if I have Sanchez, Hazard and Aguero. So for tonight...

          A) Lukaku -> Austin
          B) Take the price drop and save FT
          C) Something else

Eriksen is an extremely frustrating FPL player. If you're comfortable doubling up on Arsenal I'd go Walcott. Do you have Siggy?

I went Theo mainly because I don't have Sanchez, but have Kane. Eriksen has never done well for me either so that put me off him a bit

Lukaku to Austin? No funds available to do Luk to Kane

Currently own Costa / Aguero / Sanchez / Hazard

Think that is a very sensible move. I am torn myself between Lukaku to Austin (and upgrading Gundogan to Siggy) OR Lukaku to Kane and essentially moving Gundogan to Phillips.

            Tough.

The first move sounds better imo. I personally hate having a 5-5.5m mid as they're so hard to get rid of once you have them - I was stuck with Snoddy for ages when he wasn't peforming

Agree with this guy. First move looks good. That said Kane is captain material, Austin / Siggy are probable not. Depends what other captain options you have available.

Thanks - this is the dilemma. Leaning to first move, but who would I captain this week. Aguero, Costa and Hazard all play in the same game and I don't like captaining players that aren't either premium or on penalties/set pieces.

You'll have my forward line and two of my mids if you make that move.

Kane is being a bit over-hyped on here at the minute, and I'm saying that as someone who has a big soft spot for Kane having been one of the earliest adopters two years ago.

How so? 10.8m is cheaper than Alexis, for instance, and should return over the next 4 game weeks more points, with the added bonus of 2 or 3 weeks as a clear standout captain choice - including this week.
