The FA have this afternoon confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will serve a three-match ban for violent conduct following an altercation with Tyrone Mings during Manchester United’s weekend draw against Bournemouth.

Today’s news is set to have a major effect on the Fantasy Premier League transfer market as we look for alternatives to the 34.9% owned Red Devils frontman.

Ibrahimovic will miss the upcoming FA Cup quarter-final match against Chelsea, in addition to United’s next two Premier League fixtures against Middlesbrough and West Brom, before returning to contention in time for the Gameweek 31 home encounter with Everton on Tuesday, April 4.

Devoid of a Gameweek 28 fixture as a result of that Chelsea encounter, the Swede – who has scored just once in his last five league appearances – was already the number one asset for transfers out since the weekend deadline passed.

Over 34,000 former Ibrahimmovic owners have made the move to Harry Kane – Spurs may also without a league match this weekend but they then face Southampton and Burnley while the Swede spends his enforced time on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, 31,000+ have swapped him out for Romelu Lukaku as Everton host West Brom this weekend in the first of four favourable home fixtures in six, while Swansea’s Fernando Llorente – with five goals in six – has been an automatic replacement for over 14,000 FPL managers ahead of a weekend trip to Hull.

Arguably, the lack of viable options up top for a four-match Gameweek 28 slate may somewhat limit the exodus over the next few days, yet with the likes of Diego Costa facing Stoke and Palace over Gameweek 29-30, we can expect the transfers out to intensify next week once all the big guns are back in contention.

Nonetheless, as one of just three sides with two fixtures still to be scheduled – along with Arsenal and Southampton – there’s no doubt that the Swede still has a major part to play later in the season once the double Gameweeks are finally scheduled.

      Kane, Llorente, Kaku

      Kane in for Kun
      Then in 30-31:
      Llorente becomes Gabbiadini
      Kaku becomes Costa (probably)

Everyone is allowed to sign up, logon and add their 2 cents, from what I know, up until this point in time. Was there a policy change from FFS that only you know about or are you implying that certain people should be excluded?

What would you base that on - current footballing knowledge or their ability to learn about football? It's not a science mate. You've seen the people you're sitting next to right?

Guys can you talk me out of going for Baines over Coleman please?

I've waited this long and Coleman has had the recent form. Weeks ago those that got Baines over Coleman regret it but I think I want the shaggy little man.

I've just seen your post on the bottom of the last page. Done the comparison and there's a clear winner, thank you! Working in data though where I can't go off gut feel, I kinda want to and go for Baines.

Fair enough! I don't have a strong preference either way if I'm honest, so I'm going to do what it's saying!

Just leave it for a bit - don't think there's any imminent rises/falls that could impact your decision. I'm waiting til Friday or if there's another rise, just in case I need to do an emergency transfer in case of injury or something...

Just had a thought. I might as well get rid of Capoue, since I've been wanting rid of him for ages, and get in Tom Carroll. Effectively it's only a two point hit if Carroll plays, it gains me 0.2 and there's a chance he could score me some kind of points as a bonus. Any reason not to?

This was what I did with Puncheon this week. Wasn't sure if Phillips would play so thought it'd be replacing 2 points from Puncheon and its a transfer I'd do this week anyways.

Definitely do it. Get the extra cash and hope for the assist. Having said that though, Puncheon saved me 1.0m, not sure I'd do it for 0.2m, especially if you're wildcarding soon.

6 games for Carroll at Swansea (including Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea), has returned twice in those 6 for 4.2m. Won't find much better value in the game, he is nailed and has good fixtures coming up. The only players close to his price who compete in terms of points per million paid (based on form) are Feghouli and Fraser who are both more expensive.

In these 6 games where he has arguably over-achieved, he had got 20 FPL points - that's 3.33 a game (less than the 4 point hit). At least Capoue has shown he can score goals at some point during his career - Carroll has scored 2 goals in 96 career league appearances, including a whole season at QPR in the Championship when he scored a total of zero goals.

That's a tough one - Antonio pops up into a good short streak now and again based on position and he's a great player. Lanzini is on form at the mo and more forward. I wouldn't trade for -4, but on a straight pick right now - Lanzini.

    Lukaku Llorente Mane -8
    Next week

Gives this team this week - 9-10
    Jaku
    Coleman Baines
    Mane Firmino Siggy Philips
    Lukakku Llorente Diomande

    Heaton Lenihan Alonso Stones Hazard

Are we all going Kane(c) in GW 29? I think the only way I get Kane is if I do Costa to Kane but Costa has Palace at home after that and Kane has Burnley away. Tempted with a Phillips to Pogba/Wally/Mata transfer instead of Costa to Kane.

    Comes down to this:

    1) Kane(c) + Phillips + Lukaku
    2) Lukaku(c) + Costa + Pogba/Wally/Mata

Is it time to stop putting so much emphasis on blank gws and even small dgws, like this one? Not sure how everyone else is fairing but with all the planning, I'm prob in a worse position. Same thing happened last season. Casuals just cruise through without a blink of an eye.

Fair play if that's the case. I mean mine hasn't worked out truly dreadfully or anything but blanks have certainly stopped me getting points of Kane for instance as figured no point bringing him in until gw29. He's the best example of my point.

Yeah I think we are guilty of overthinking. Got a lot of players for GW28, but I've been pummelled by decreasing my Chelsea/Spurs coverage.

Looking back, I'd rather take the ~100 points for 2x Kane captains plus owning Eriksen and Walker and have 6-7 players playing this week than losing out on those points but having 10-11... lol

Can't say until after GW28. So far we have only played the bits that we have made sacrifices in, without having seen any of the benefit. Ask again after the DGW fixture and the blank GW, I still expect our planning to result in green arrows across those two events. The first one isn't even over yet, our gains are yet to be realised.

Bale on why English teams are failing in Europe. Couldn't agree more...When will EPL axe this Festive period of too many matches in a too short a time?

'I think I know why, but you can't change it,' said Bale.
'It's the league itself. Every game in the Premier League you have to be at 100 per cent for 90 minutes or you will lose.

'In Spain, you can be up at half-time against the bottom club and take your foot off the gas. You can rest players and take people off. If you try for 45 minutes you won't win a match in the Premier League.

'And, obviously, the winter break is massive. In England you'll play four or five games and we don't play any. You don't get many rest days and it really does burn you out for a long time after that.'

Well, City were on cruise control for most of the Sunderland game...

I agree with the winter break, but in general the reason PL teams don't do as well in Europe, or at least the CL, is they aren't as good as their competitors.

Until all things are equal (England takes a break) Im not sure we can judge this fairly on 'who is better'? EPL stands out like a sore thumb w no break.

I'll take Bale's word for it; he's put in enough time in both nations and the CL to have a good, smart opinion.

Pretty much all foreign managers have also experienced this too. An argument that's been going on for many years.

But not at the same standard of club. It's fine for him to feel at Real they can relax in a game and still control it, they've got some of the best players in the world. Wasn't the same at Tottenham, so they couldn't take the foot off the gas.

The winter break is a fair point, I'd never argue that one. But you look at players coming to the PL from "inferior" leagues and doing a great job. Llorente could score more league goals with Swansea than he did with Juventus. Zlatan came from a widely criticised league that was perceived as easy, will challenge for Golden Boot. Payet was similar. Sanchez forced out of Barcelona because he wasn't viewed as essential to them, one of the best players in the PL.

The PL has a reputation as the best league in the world and I would disagree. It is perhaps more challenging given the number of teams going for top 4 spots, but not the best in terms of quality of players on the whole, imo.

              • 11 Years

You don't have enough data to say that players from English leagues can't do well at the other leagues if given a proper chance. So few players go to the other leagues. 6 teams going for top 4 in the PL, means every game is that much more important.

I never said said players from the PL can't do well at other leagues. I said players from perceived inferior leagues often do very well in the PL.

May be I interpreted/wrote that wrong. I assumed you meant that players from other inferior leagues doing well in the Premier league implied that the Premier League's quality is not as good as everyone makes it out to be. What I was trying to say, is that may be we don't have enough data to rule out a player doing relatively well in the Premier League, let's say Andy Carroll (when fit), from absolutely crushing it in a foreign league.

Yeah, far too much emphasis is paid to results in the Europa league or Champs league. Trying playing Burnley away which is a battle for 90 minutes and then may be a Champs league game away. Have always maintained, that the intensity and standard of the other leagues is fairly low. There is a lot of pride in the English league and fans want to see their teams lose 1-2 instead of a stroll in the park 0-2 loss. Bale is spot on.

            1. Somalion
              • 15 Years

Think that does somewhat of a disservice to lower league teams in other leagues tbh. Some of those matches can be incredibly intense (I would have watched a lot of La Liga and Bundesliga over the years) only difference is a) the quality of the big teams is greater and b) a lot of lower teams, especially in La Liga take more pride in playing to play a really good game of football than the eventual scoreline. It's just a different tactical/cultural thing.

People vastly underrate lower league teams in the other European leagues on here. They'd be surprised if they saw some of them play against PL sides. My only concession is that, usually, the relegated 3 in the PL will be a better standard of team than the relegated teams in La Liga or BL. A lot of that comes down to money and TV rights as well.

Yes, it is down to a cultural difference. I think other leagues are more street smart, without trying to sound disrespectful. If a game is over against a bigger side, they are more willing to shrug it off as an off-day mid-game. The emphasis on technical ability means a little less of the hustle and bustle, which does add up, and these European nights are often at the tail end of the season. Take the example of WBA down 2-0 to City at home and at Liverpool this season in the first half. They scrapped big time in the second half in both games, lost 2-1 at Liverpool and 4-0 against City. Listen to Pep's interview after the WBA game. He said WBA out of nowhere just got more attacking and a second lease of life. I think that's exactly the kind of game Bale is talking about.

To be honest. It is because average teams like Stoke, West Ham, WBA, etc. try to beat our top teams. Whereas in Spain, France, Italy and Germany - it is a rollover league. Teams rollover when they are down.

      Would you rather

      A) Aguero ==> Llorente (-4)
      B) Sterling ==> Antonio/Lanzini (-4)

      Or

      C) Both for -8?

Currently got 9 players for blanks. Jaku, Funes Mori, McAuley, (Amat), Mee, (Phillips), Siggy, Mane, Lukaku

One week punt on Carroll or Lorente, which one do you prefer?

Still Llorente for me. I just can't trust Caroll for two whole games.

      Team for this week

      Heaton

      Baines - Maguire - Smith

      Firmino - Siggy - King

      Lukaku (C) - Carroll

Took a -4 to bring King in. Think I'll stick now.

Coutinho as he's great against the little teams.

Reckon average score of active players will be around 40 points in GW 28 after hits

Yeah think you're right. I'll be pleased if I get to 50.

I'll be upset with less than 50.

I was feeling smug having kept Alli and Kane over Costa and Hazard when bringing in Sterling, Sane and Aguero (Phillips had to go).

However, I've just looked at the points lost and, if I'd made no changes and skippered Diego (which was likely), Tom Carroll's six would have come off my bench...

Even with a current total of 76 points, I'm nett 13 points down and could have saved a FT. I now need 17 from Captain Kun, Sterling and Sane tomorrow to justify it.

Anyone else with tales of woe from the double? (I know mine isn't awful, but FTs are like gold dust!)

Half time during the DGW and I have Aguero TC and sterling and grant. I'll let you know tomorrow after a 50 point haul.

My concern is that at east one or two won't be given the option of turning up. Damn the DGW excitement

Took out Antonio 0 and Costa 9 for Kun 7 and Sterling 6 for a -4 hit.

Would have played T Carroll and captained Ibra, so I am hopeful of being much better off with my DGW efforts.

TC may yet be a success
