We’re left punctured and deflated like that old plastic ball you used to kick over the fence into the neighbour’s garden.

That neighbour is Pep Guardiola, who appears to take great pleasure in putting his big teamsheet tinkering garden fork through our bouncy double Gameweek dreams.

Recorded in the dying stages of Manchester City’s non-event clash against a stubborn Stoke, Jonty, Andy and myself are left rather flat during this episode of the ScoutCast.

Even the most imaginative accountant couldn’t hide the fact that, after transfer hits aplenty and having witnessed Messrs Kane, Costa, Hazard and Lukaku grab hauls, all three of us depart Gameweek 27 in the red.

Gathering ourselves after that disappointment, and steered by your questions, we nonetheless press on to offer our latest musings on the minefield of blanks presented by Gameweek 28, while checking in on Sanchez’ fading star and third striker options.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Wednesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link or the first player below, or take in the full visual experience, pastry and all, via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

How many hits is it acceptable to take this week?

I'm on (-8) just now, certain to go to (-12)...may go as far as (-16) to dump Philips if he doesn't start.

(assuming you are taking out players you don't want back, and who don't start this week)

Probably not more than (-8) depending on the team.

Your last sentence is essential imo. Trade players with / without a fixture this week, and as long as you don't want them back, it's fine.

Great week to ship the dead wood. look at each transfer individually on it's own merits, not as a -12 or -16.

Do you consider a -12 to be a -6 this week (if replacing fixture-less players)?

        I'd say no
Because the fpl potential of players playing is less than other GW, (ie no Sanchez haz Ibra spurs etc) except for a few.
For Lukaku, Mane, Siggy, Firmino, I'd say the hit is more than worth it imo.

A -12 is a -12...after the GW it may have become a +4 or +6. Only then can you really count the cost.

Each hit is a -2 if you haven't got 11 so I'd be taking as many as needed for attacking players, maybe not so much for defenders

By calling it a -2 you're assuming that the player coming in will score at least 2pts. That's a reasonable assumption I suppose, but of course, nothings guaranteed. It's the weighing up of odds/probability with each hit. If you're shipping out non playing dead weights (like Amat) then it's well worth the gamble of a hit even if the end result of that hit after this GW is -

I think it's more about what you do with your team than how many hits. If they help you long term then it's worth it as even a -16 is only really a -8.

      Cheers all - great input.
Sane > Courinho is essential this week for me. Gives me a Sanchez option next week if I want it.
Will likely do Phillips > Carroll if no Phillips this week - would just be making that move somewhere down the line anyway as an enabler.

      Phillips & Ibra > Mane & Llorente done -4

Sane & Aguero > Coutinho (C) & Carroll happening after Liverpool presser. -8

Also considering Amat > Olsson for another -4.

Out of all those only Phillips is an active player this week and I expect little from him given recent form. All those moves would essentially be a 10 point punt on 4 players. Carroll or Llorente will go next week on a FT for Kane, the rest prob stay until WC.

If Spurs Arsenal City and Chelsea all win their FA Cup tie, what dgw will we have in 34?

      United & Soton I think.

Southampton due to play Arsenal so if Arsenal qualify it can't be gw34.
ManU due to play Citeh so if Citeh qualify it can't be gw34 either.

      2. Pep says

Oh they would face each other? So Southampton also have Chelsea and United have Burnley. Not majorly appealing are they?

Even if Arsenal, Chelsea, City & Spurs qualify for Semis then will have one fixtures in GW34 (midweek).

But I'm not sure if the fixtures that will be played midweek will be the rearranged one or the GW34 one which will postponed to midweek.

Yes Im with you on that. Could have some scattered doubles across 32,33,35&36 in that case. When is the draw? After the MNUCHE games Monday night? And will the rescheduled fixtures be announced sometime between then and gw30 do you think?

Yup we can except double game weeks in those weeks definitely.

I'm not sure when the draw is but definitely should be on Sunday or Monday.

Last year they were announced on 15the March. I expect this it would between GW29 & 30 during the IT break.

I have Valdes, i'll double up on their defense and maybe get de Roon as well, i'll have triple Middlesbrough for their DGW without butchering my team.

Mmm I don't even think Carroll to DeRoon would be worth iit tbh. Value maybe but they just shipped 2 goals to Stoke, I think teams will find it easier to break them down from here in.

I'm in similar position 100 points behind. Have a great midfield (imo) but decided to ditch Sterling for Coutinho and double up with Mane. I think it could work and give me an advantage over people above in league but it's a gamble.

best GK combo for the remaining of season?

    currently have Pickford and Foster.

Would take Lloris as I'd prefer a trip of outfield players from them, plus Lloris never get bonus pts. Jaku and Pickford rotate well for now, Jaku out for Valdes maybe down the line to save funds for outfield players.

Quote from Fantasy Football Fix regarding DGW price thresholds

"The DGW affects price rise thresholds. We pointed this on our Twitter feed on 22nd April 2015 while others said "it was wildcards". It is not a new rule. It is under investigation how to exactly correct for this, but it is likely that thresholds are doubled in the GW before a DGW"

You are just unlucky if the players you bring in don't pay off. Its not that often a player gets 0 or 1 point. Usually 2 pts, and a goal and an assist from someone and you have gained.

Yeah but that's the risk you take.at least you don't have to worry about the player you replace scoring a haul .like me last week with Alli Hazard and Costa.

This og's and cards and injuries could happen any week. 2pts is just a benchmark people are using. Although I agree taking a hit for defenders that will afterwards be bench fodders is not entirely worth it.

    5. Rhinos
      • 12 Years

I'm being misinterpreted. I'm almost certainly doing a -8 I think hits fine this week, just pointing out you can't assume it's only -2 if fail

    6. McQueen
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 9 months ago

That's why you load up on attackers, mids, who don't get points reduced if they concede a lot, injuries, red cards, missed Pks can happen every game so why bother with those scenarios.

I'm looking at it. Do I have a player for this GW? No, so good chance to get rid of Capoues, De Roons, even Amats and getting players you want for the future. If you go -8, -12 there's better chance some of them gets you good returns and you're even at least, but you're very well set up for next gws.

That's my view nevertheless and I'm OK with it, so go with your gut if you feel differently.

Good luck whichever way you go. 😉

Same with Mane for. Ibra Stan and Kun to Kaku Mane and Llorente. Hopefully Pool keep a clean sheet. Should only be on -1 in that case and surly one of the 3 will produce something. TV up 0.6 also so it's free cash for WC worst case scenario.

That could happen anytime. But the fact is more often than not, those things won't happen, so therefore if we try to predict the hit cost -2 is sensible.

A player could get a goal, a clean sheet, save a pen, get lots of assist. But it we don't count that at this stage to value the hit any more than we wouldn't count your potential outcomes. But in general any hits the week will save -2 on average as a minimum to a normal week.

Hits every other week don't always work but they have an average of 2 points less chance of working than this week.

Who is the bigger priority for GW 29, Sanchez (-4) or Kane?
    Leaning towards Harry.

Mane, Firmino, Siggy, Phillips, Fletcher. Better plan:

    A) 29 Phillips > Sanchez and than Lukaku > Costa
    B) 29 Phillips > Sanchez and than Firmino > Eriksen
    C) 29 Phillips > Sanchez and than Mane, Lukaku > Eriksen, Costa

Can any Utd fans or people who watch their game frequently shed some light on their defence? I have seen Mourinho rotating his CB combo where Jones,Rojo, Smalling and Baily getting some mins respectively. Which 2 would you say are starters right now? Would love to get some manu defence in but can't spare the cash for Valencia...

I've been burnt by Mourinho defence rotation a number of times. De Gea is the one I will go for next week - him or Valencia really

Shaw also in the mix now. I'd avoid them. Rojo Jones and Smalling all played last night. Big game Monday so obviously Valencia is being rested. Bailey and Shaw rested to perhaps. Jones or Smalling to play Monday and swap them around for GW29 maybe? Not worth the risk imo, 2nd leg to be played in Europa also so it's anyone's guess. Valencia is 100% nailed though

Valencia the best option for starts.

Lukaku or Costa long term (till DGW probably)?

Lukaku more explosive and slightly cheaper. Am looking at Hazard instead of Costa as more explosive potential

Lukaku seems to be finding some consistency and that goal against Spurs means he is capable of scoring against the big teams. More e profile in the easier fixtures so id be leaning towards him.

GW28 Team with one hit (-4)...

    Jaku
    McAuley, F. Mori, Robertson, Amat
    Mané, Firmino, Can, Carroll
    Lukaku, Llorente

    (Mannone, Chambers, Hazard, Aguero)

G2G and any advice for captaining?
    a) Lukaku
    b) Mané
    c) Firmino

Decent squad. You need Liverpool to fire though, based on your 3 Pool mids. Captain Lukaku to hedge your bets imo.

Thoughts on this squad appreciated 🙂

    Foster
    Coleman - Brunt - Robertson
    Firmino - Sterling* - Siggy - Chadli
    Aguero* - Ibra* - Lukaku

    Heaton; Pieters*, De Roon*, Alonso*
    0.2ITB + 1FT

Thinking of Sterling + De Roon > Snodgrass + King (-4), allowing me to field 10 players in total. Could then play AOA next week with King as 5th mid. Ibra to Kane on the cards next week also.

Well I'd like Kane in next week, so kind of keeping Ibra as a placeholder for that, as I'd quite like to keep Kun and Lukaku for a little longer.

Already taken -4 get Lukaku and Llorente in.
    A) Stanislas to King -4
    B) Sterling to Firmino (have Mane) -4
    C) both -8
Actually want to get rid of both, so now it could be good idea take hits.

Yes for -12. And if everyone gets atleast 2p, its just -6p.
Going to keep those who get in (Kaku, Firmino, Llorente and King) for a few gameweeks. I think its not even bad to take -12.
