Tough fixtures for many of the usual front runners in Gameweek 30 meant our last Captain Poll saw no player emerge as a stand-out option.

It should be a different story this time around.

Arsenal host a West Ham side they destroyed 5-1 in the reverse fixture, while Manchester United welcome back top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.4) for their home tie with Everton.

The big Swede has been sorely missed over a three-match suspension – Jose Mourinho’s charges have scored just once in the league, away to Middlesbrough in Gameweek 29.

Having been involved in half of all the Red Devils’ league goals, the 26.1%-owned veteran looks a strong front-runner against a Toffees side that has shipped seven goals and failed to win in their last four road trips.

Gunners’ top scorer Alexis Sanchez (11.6) is another set to compete for top spot after scoring three times and assisting another goal in that West Ham rout earlier in the season. Over the last 10 Gameweeks, the 26.9%-owned Chilean has delivered attacking returns on eight occasions.

The Hammers come into this encounter in woeful defensive form, having shipped 13 goals and failed to earn a clean sheet in their last six.

But handing Sanchez the armband comes with a slight caveat – he might once again be handed a role on the left flank, where he mustered just one off-target goal attempt at home to Manchester City yesterday.

Liverpool could offer a source of top performers in our latest poll, as Jurgen Klopp’s troops welcome a Bournemouth side that has conceded 31 times on the road.

With Sadio Mane expected to miss out after picking up an injury in Saturday’s Merseyside derby, that game’s star turn, Philippe Coutinho (8.3), will likely attract considerable interest. The Brazilian has already gathered more than 84,000 new FPL owners, after a goal, assist and maximum bonus points return at the weekend.

In Mane’s absence, Divock Origi (6.1) could earn a start. Given the 3.3% owned Belgian has scored or assisted in three of his last four appearances, all off the bench, he may be a shrewd option for those looking to take a risk with the armband.

Roberto Firmino (8.5) should also garner votes, having delivered attacking returns in four of his last five league starts, including a double-digit haul at home to Arsenal in Gameweek 27.

The favourable home matches for form sides continue at the King Power Stadium, where Leicester City take on Sunderland. Jamie Vardy’s (10.0) four goals in as many fixtures since Craig Shakespeare took charge puts the 14.6% striker among the likely poll favourites. This recent record is set to put team-mate Riyad Mahrez (9.0) in the shade, even though the Algerian has scored twice under the new regime.

Among those with an away fixture that could attract attention are Spurs’ trio of attacking midfielders Christian Eriksen (8.7), Dele Alli (9.0) and Heung-Min Son (7.0). They’ll be at the Liberty Stadium, where Swansea City have shipped 30 goals – more than any other side at home.

Of this selection, the 30.2%-owned Alli looks to be the favourite, having delivered attacking returns in all four of his last league starts.

Crystal Palace’s visit to Southampton on Wednesday night offers a pair of intriguing differential candidates for the armband in Christian Benteke (7.0) and Wilfried Zaha (5.7).

The pair registered a goal and assist each away to Chelsea and have proved particularly effective away from home, scoring 13 times between them on their travels, compared to just three goals in total at home.

The Saints somehow kept a clean sheet against Bournemouth at St Mary’s at the weekend, but over their last six matches they have generally been in poor defensive form, giving away 10 goals.

With Chelsea hosting Manchester City, interest in Diego Costa (10.7), Eden Hazard (10.2) and Sergio Aguero (12.7) is set to be limited, although with both sides conceding twice in Gameweek 30 this could be a good fixture to back a premium attacker.

The Blues’ 37.4%-owned Spain forward has had more close range efforts than any other player over his last six matches, with City’s 21.8%-owned talisman notching the second highest tally over the same period.

The Captain Poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under Recent Comments.

We’ll be back to check in on the progress of the poll later, ahead of the Gameweek 31 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

I think what he meant is that he may just limit their minutes rather than straight up bench them. You'd think the league is a priority for them over europa, although they may be looking at winning the europa as a way of qualifying for the champions league. Think people are reading a little too much into it tbh.

I remember 2 in my recent memory, Vs United in their previous leg some time late in December and the other some time in Jan, clearly remember because I captained Baines and he got me a 15 pointer 🙂 I'm sure Kaku must've benefited from pens earlier too during Baines' absence.

Armband is a touch decision if you have another Pool mid. Coutinho probably the best despite reduced minutes. Firmino and Origi about equal in my eyes

            • 8 Years
            8 years, 8 months ago

Liverpool mids are a pain to have, they're like a lottery so I've stayed away from them for a major part of the season. Coutinho looks good right now but not keen on bringing him in as my midfield looks decent right now with Alexis, Eriksen, Siggy, Sane & Fraser (5th mid).

I'm itching to do Llorente to Origi. I have Defoe and would get rid of him instead if Llorente wasn't injured. Just gotta wait to see how long Mane might be out for (later today maybe?).

I really wouldn't do Lukaku to Kun

      1. My Name Is Pepu
        • 8 Years

Yeah, the thing is I had Kun last week, removed him and he scored, it's more like a guilt transfer because it's kind of playing in my mind right. The 'what if Aguero explodes ..' thing 🙂

Alonso, Aguero, Carrol -> Ibra, Alli, Bernado for -8

Seems crazy right? Well, Alonso not really done well for an expensive defender lately, Chelsea no longer seem to be keeping the cleanies, fixtures dont look great for next few too.

Aguero - extremely expensive - hasn't score double figures since gwk13. Carroll - well Siggy is enough exposure to Swans i think tbh.

This way i end up with Alli ( a must have i think), i get Ibra who has 2x doubles and also a Boro defender (ok-ish fixtures and a double coming up)

So my team for this week is-

    Jaku (Pickford)
    Mawson, Baines, Valencia (Smith, Amat)
Sanchez C, Siggy, King, Eriksen (Fletcher)
    Vardy, Aguero, Lukaku

I'm still unsure of which goalie to play, as Pickford is doing really well lately. He's put me off captaining Vardy. All of my players have tricky fixtures and I can't see where to improve. Best to hold the transfer this week and hope for the best?

    1. Qubit

Think id probably play Jaku there. Your mid is similar to mine and i really want to get Alli in, even considering ditching Eriksen (although he's bound to pop up with a big score soon - prefer to have both)

Since i have been visiting this site now for a while i think now it`s time that i link my team. Currently standing is 30k, started well and then had a long drought lasting about 10 to 12 gameweeks, including a state of mind where I nearly closed off the season (OR was OK ish, but my MLL was sailing away from me), did some strange wildcarding for fun, decided to play for fun by doing a lot of hits and play for high gameweeks results. I wasnt aware of it, but at some point gameweek 26 i saw that my team was in very good shape, well planned for GW28, and I did som hits to get Kun for GW27 to TC, not very good or bad) and my MLL lost out on the that for some reasons, and MLL having picked all wrong the last 5 weeks I have nearly catch him by hundred points in 5 gameweeks). Astonishing

A lot of credit for this I willingly give to Scoutcast and to all of the contributors on this site-)

    Some WC questions:

    1. Sane or Siggy?
    2. Keep or remove Alonso?
    3. Eriksen or Coutinho? (have Alli)

I'm also on wc....I have 105.9 to spend, so I think it's time to use it.

      Sane
Keep Alonso so unless it really restricts other desirable choices
Coutinho for me so far....he is a tad less £ than Eriksen, and Liverpool do have some easy games, too.

Haha, Arvin asked me manage his team for a few weeks. I did my best and went with the sensible obvious choices to try to be safe. It didn't go so well lol. I should have played it arvin style and gone -12 every gw

Personally, yes. Liverpool's bench are really thin. With Mane and Lallana (?) out, it should be a chance of Origi playing. Especially since he scored against Everton

Not sure the bench affects it though. Sturridge is back soon, and it becomes a fight between them until Mane is back. Klopp won't play both simply because Lallana is out. Neither can fill Lallana's position

Having a 42 point gap at the top of my ML but with no WC, I have taken hits for future DGW's. Getting Valencia, Walker, Ibra and Zaha I needed to do and Moved out Mane Llorente Coleman and Baines. Cost 8 points and made a 2 pt gain.
Anyone taken similar steps as me?

      Heaton
      Baines Valencia Yoshida
      Sanchez Alli Eriksen Coutinho Zaha
      Vardy Origi

      Bench: Jakupovic Lukaku Stones Mawson

      Captain: Coutinho.
      How about this?

      Heaton, Valdes
      Mee, Yoshida, Baines, Cahill, Valencia
      Son, Siggy, Mane, Obiang, Pedro
      Luk, Kun, Llorente

Son, Siggy, Kun and Mane out for Sanchez, Alli, Can and Ibra (-8)
