Our series of summer members’ articles continues this afternoon as we assess what’s on offer at the managerial merry-go-round that is Watford.

To begin with, we analyse the Hornets’ performances on a team level, checking out last season’s data in order to spot trends and areas of improvement. Following that, we take a look at the players to pinpoint their key individuals.

For this article, we also focus on new manager Marco Silva’s impact on his former club Hull City after an impressive stint at the KCOM Stadidum during the second half of 2016/17.

Watford parted company with Quique Sanchez Flores at the end of 2015/16, scoring 40 times on their way to finishing in thirteenth spot on 45 points.

Yet the now-departed Walter Mazzarri failed to improve upon those performances in his only season at the helm. The Vicarage Road outfit scored the same number of goals but picked up just 40 points, ending the campaign in seventeenth position.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Don't why Darmian is being overlooked, started the Europa final (If I remember rightly) is nailed on why playing 5 at the back due to our lack of wingers that track back and in 4 at the back is our only mobile left back with Blind also having pretty poor pre season

No, as a Reds fan he disrupts the fluidity of our attack going forward & was outshone by Moreno & to a lesser extent Robertson in pre-season. If he starts in midfield there will be uproar, I'd personally rather Grujic starting than him.

    de Gea / Elliot
    Kompany / Cedric / TAA (Yoshida/Mee)
    KDB / Salah / Zaha / Fraser / Carroll
    Kane / Lukaku / Abraham

Starting with two SOU defenders is risky, but could catch some nice price rises. If I started with Cedric, and he doesn't play, Yoshida comes in. TAA for the first one/two fixtures, too.

Plan to get Trippier back in by downgrading less desirable SOU to a 4.0. Although, that may not be overly wise.

Front 8 I am fine with. Thoughts? Am I overthinking my defense?

Manquillo got an assist today though may not be a guaranteed starter when Yedlin is back from injury. Lejeune could be good for the CBIs and bonuses, recorded either the most blocks or clearances in La Liga last season.

So I went to chelsea today and obviously came away disappointed but more then the result is the growing concern about how unprepared we seem to be for a nightmare first 2 months, here's a few things I saw about us today

1 - the defence will be as solid as last year, especially when bakayoko comes in for Fabregas , the chances created by Arsenal were where they had men over in midfield because Fabregas didn't have the legs, with two athletes screening the defence it will be a solid team

2 - no Willian! Willian has been in my team since day 1 but he was dire today, lost count of how many times he lost the ball and was replaced after 70 minutes, that may of been due to pedro being sent off and he wanted to give musonda game time, but don't fancy the risk, he didn't take many set pieces either which was one major point possibility for him

3 - morata will come good. Say what you will about the missed penalty, and he did miss a couple of half chances but overall I thought ht was good when he came on, he won flick ons and his movement looked good, definitely would have him over lacazette

4 - the major issue is the squad size, much has been made about the need for signings but it became very apparent today, the squad needs improving if we are to compete and if we do make signings before the end of the month I cannot see Chelsea competing

Agree about Willian today, but Gunners have some mental thing going over them right now. Look at fixtures and who Willian will be going at. But overall, Chelsea isn't figuring in my team yet.

You seem to have gone backwards since last year

Morata I don't think is as good as Costa - always been a back up option, Conte doesn't seem overly impressed!

Matic is better than Bakayoko I reckon

Lost Ake who was a good squad option as well as Terry

Plus you'll find it a lot more difficult having to manage CL midweek once that kicks in.

Yes, Chelsea were surprisingly undercooked vs Arsenal, and on paper they have lots of problems, but then there's Conte. He won't sleep or eat until kicking them into some sort of serviceable shape, just like last season.

    Currently sitting on:

    Foster / Elliot
    Valencia / Kompany / Stephens / Mee / 4.5
    KDB / Mané / Zaha / Ward-Prowse / Carroll
    Kane / Lukaku / Quaner

    Thinking 442 / 352 depending on fixtures.
Trying to keep budget as well divided into brackets as I can to aid transfers hence 2 defenders over 6mil rather than spreading the wealth and getting Daniels or something. Only thing I'm missing in that front is that reverting to a 343 is 2 transfers way if someone like Gayle shows form but I don't like any of the equivalent prices forwards to start with :/

    Thoughts?

Shocked at how similar our teams were!

      Me: Mounie, Kolasinac, Rosenior

      You: Valencia, Mee, Quaner

    Unpopular thought for the day;

KDB is not good value at 10. Dont like reliance on assists for points. Alli, Mane, Salah better value.

He does have a goal threat. It just depends where Pep plays him. In 15/16 he scored 7 goals in 2000 mins.

      Agreed.

I think everyone knows it deep down, but want to feel safe with City "cover".

Is gonna take a lot of patience for sure. Reckon a lot of people will get fed up of trickling 5 pointers and sell him once hazard is back. Think he's very likely to be a top 5 scoring mid come the end of the season though.

I actually agree, just hoping he will get some goals but I dont see many and he aint going to be playing false nine anytime soon. Alli,KDB, Mane, Sala thats the midfield order IMO. Liverpool last due to rotation, otherwise Mane could be like just behind Alli or equal to

De Bruyne is a bigger threat to goal than David Silva ever was (and Silva was definitely worth £9.5m in his prime).

KDB hit the post 8 times last season, 3 times more than Pogba and any other midfielder in the Premier League!

But he didn't score those goals, he hit the post. If Pogba had chosen to shoot instead of pass sometimes, he similarly may have scored more goals. Conjecture.

However I do agree with your point re KDB being more potent than Silva goalswise

Or, he could be at the centre of a Goal-nado 😉

    How's it looking?

    Forster, Elliot

    Kolasinac, Stones, Cedric, Frances, Rangel

De Bruyne, Mkhitaryan, Sterling, Gradel, De Jong

    Kane, Lacazette, Gabbiadini.
