Is now the time to give up on the premium strikers – we’re looking at you Harry – and throw our cash at a “power five” midfield?

It’s a big question that requires a crack team to answer.

Unfortunately, we only have the ScoutCast crew available, though we did manage to pull off a big loan signing to help us out.

Jay Eggersdorf – the current “live” Hall of Fame number one joins Jonty, Andy and Az as we take on the big topic of the day.

In the middle of another stunning season – Jay reveals his strategy behind his recent move to shed Kane on the back of another impressive points tally.

Then on 44 minutes, Jay’s phone is almost drained of life. Tickled by the on-camera events that follow, Jonty and Az struggle to hold it together to discuss the recruitment of Paul Pogba and the merits of West Ham investment before we look ahead to Gameweek 19.

It’s an intense 90-minutes, with the frivolity of this “festive” ScoutCast limited to silly jumpers and hats. Though we each get the opportunity to reveal our Christmas wish.

Just one wafer-thin hat-trick please Harry.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hazard is a tricky one when you know what he's capable of. The thing is Chelsea have been fairly average and Morata has been in and out of the team which affects hazard. I'm giving him a few more weeks at least.

I know that was the plan, but in the cold light of day (and in isolation of his superb OR) it looks bad

If Kane scores v Burnley it puts him even further behind vs. If he hadn't done it, and Kane scoring v Burnley isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

Fair play for having the cojones to do it mind you

The more I've thought about it, I think it wasn't a very good -12! Another poster on here suggested that he must have went on a bit of tilt after a horrible score the week before, I kind of agree!

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

He's done brilliantly so far. And I won't argue against taking out Kane. But I firmly believe that was his first mistake of the season. The -12 most definitely did not pay out immediately.

      2. XabiAlonso

I don't think there is ever a good minus 12 just lucky ones, unless you have 4-5 red flags

        1. jia you
          • 9 Years
          7 years, 11 months ago

The other Scoutcasters should've been stronger and criticised his -12 a bit more, then again with his history it's hard to! Thinking about it, with his OR their was no real need to shake things up so much! Ok, he was very unfortunate with Silva, but Bony!

          1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
            • 15 Years
            7 years, 11 months ago

This - I thought there wasn't a lot of transparency on the fact that he's worse off after that hit in terms of OR. But then again it may have been harsh to get him on & criticise him... but this is a harsh game!

            1. jia you
              • 9 Years
              7 years, 11 months ago

yeah of course, criticised was the wrong word, disagreed with his play a little bit more 😉

Questioned is the word you need I think. His views have been given unquestioning acceptance in many quarters, simply because he's #1HOF. Even very good managers can make bad mistakes you know. Most do in fact.

If you want to learn from other managers you have to be critical and to try to extract the principles from what they do rather than copy them. Use their play as a starting point, not as a finishing point.

When everyone was following Ville, the mantra was 'take no hits, don't ever worry about the bench, captain the top of the poll...' That was a mistake and this is a mistake too. You have to understand WHY these good managers do what they do - the reasons or the thinking behind the decisions. That you can use; copycat replication you can't (or at least it won't avail you much).

If there is an editorial weakness in FFS it is that there is no room for the most important FPL subject: how to become a better manager. That subject needs continuing debate and analysis and synthesis across a wide range of elements. It isn't bite-size and it isn't twitterable (I think I just invented a new word there!).

In the absence of that you produce a 'what player to get' environment and actions such as Jay's are seen in terms of the players rather than examining the management principles from which those actions come.

I think some people way over think this game.

An example is Ruth NZ and his blog over at fiso. Whilst obviously a very smart person I find the blog hilarious at times when reading all the indepth analysis and theories. It's very entertaining and well worth a read.

If you want any proof that any analysis and theories is all a waste of time and bullshit, look at the multitude of dead teams that haven't been touched since gw 1, have taken no hits, and still out rank most of us here.

I wonder what philosophy those managers follow. 😆

Don't know why you'd get rid of Rich this week for a hit

Point taken. Only way to get city mid in though. But might wait until next week

Understand that but then you're banking on Sterling getting 9+ points for it to be a profitable move

Bit short term tbh, Morata will be rested for 2 home games

Why should they rest Morata for the two home games when he doesn't play this week?

    Pope / Elliot
    Otamendi / Ward (!) / Kenny / Duffy (!) / Kiko (!)
    Salah / Hazard / Silva (*) / Mahrez / Richarlison
    Morata (!) / Laca / DCL

So many flags! 2 FT, 0.3 ITB. Any idea?! Pretty sure Duffy to Masuaka is one.

Whats the big rush buy on Firm? They have Arsenal away and then he's at risk to be rested on boxing day!?

Unless you have transfers to use, then yes. Obviously in an ideal world you wouldn't want to play Kenny.

Why is everyone so sure Austin starts this GW? and if he doesn't score this week he will be 1st on peoples transfer list.

    Trying to decide between ;
    a) Gray(6.3) Terrible form, great fixtures, no rotation risk
    b) Austin(6.2) Hit and miss, on pens, mixed fixtures, rotated often
    c) Abraham (5.8) low scoring team, mixed fixtures, no short term rotation risk

Hardly anyone assured to start over this period but Austin the best striker they have by a mile and I think the manager finally seeing that

Cant see OKaka getting a start ahead of Gray and not sure who swanseas other option is. Head is telling me Abraham but gut is saying Austin!
