Sky Sports Focus

Friday finds us turning to consider the Sky Sports game, as we cast our eye back over the previous Gameweek, before helping with your preparations for the forthcoming round of fixtures.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before assessing our current Fantasy Football Scout line-up and future plans.

Gameweek 26 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

FixtureMoTM
Burnley vs Man CityJohann Berg Gudmundsson
Bournemouth vs StokeXherdan Shaqiri
West Brom vs SouthamptonJames Ward-Prowse
Man United vs Huddersfield TownJuan Mata
Brighton vs West HamJose Izquierdo
Leicester vs SwanseaFederico Fernandez
Arsenal vs EvertonAaron Ramsey
Crystal Palace vs NewcastlePatrick van Aanholt
Liverpool vs Tottenham HotspurMohamed Salah
Watford vs ChelseaGerard Deulofeu

Mohamed Salah aside, it was a great week for differential options, with Aaron Ramsey (2.8%) the most owned among the latest award winners.

With just one week before Overhaul becomes active, differentials will be highly sought by those trying to break up the template squad and make a late climb up the ranks.

The aforementioned Ramsey certainly has the credentials, given his regular return of bonus points to subsidise any attacking output. As ever, it will be his pitch-time and injury record that will give Fantasy managers doubts.

Gerard Deulofeu is another name that may turn heads.

Owned by just 0.1%, the Spaniard has quickly impressed the Sky Sports reporters, having picked up the gong in both matches since joining Watford.

Flair players, in particular those who try to dribble past their opponents, have always been accolade-hoarders (think Eden Hazard, Wilfried Zaha and Salah).

The Barcelona loanee has previously struggled with consistency, though Deulofeu has so far suggested he has improved in this respect.

Gameweek 26 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 37 points or more in bonus for the season.

Notes

With David Silva missing from Manchester City’s Saturday morning teamsheet, I decided to go bit off-piste.

I was facing a week with just nine players as Andreas Christensen was already confirmed out, while Jonjo Kenny wasn’t expected to play. Sadly, this wasn’t the case and he went on to start and concede a damaging five goals at Arsenal.

So I rolled the dice on a couple of differentials just before the Overhaul.

In came Callum Wilson and Jordan Ayew, though neither managed to make an impression.

But I brought them in with this week’s fixtures in mind too, so I’m hoping that I can be rewarded before I focus my attention on the the rebuild.

I’m planning a further article looking at Overhaul options to help guide you – and myself – before Gameweek 29.

Captain Plan

Sat 10th – Kane (ARS)
Sun 11th – Salah (sot)
Mon 5th – Hazard (WBA)

Any concerns over Aguero's minutes given the champions league match on Tuesday? Pep has played Sterling up front previously

yeah its a concern and he will likely be withdrawn at 65-70 mins. Im staying clear this week as i have triple city anyway.

salah has a long way to go to match explosiveness of other players. Aguero, Walcott, Lampard, Kane etc have all hauled 25+

        1. Going Home
          • 12 Years
          6 years, 2 months ago

Agreed, but so have Jermaine Defoe and Yakubu.

Salah, without being explosive, is currently on track for around 300 points in a season. To not already label him FPL gold is madness (and I don't particularly like Liverpool)

          1. Pacer.
            • 9 Years
            6 years, 2 months ago

Nobody is labelling him as not FPL gold. He is FPL gold for consistency and unbelievable high season long scoring. What he is not is FPL gold for ridiculous explosiveness. Lampard actually managed 28 point hauls on 2 occasions, and players like Kane and Aguero (and i think Sanchez) have managed much bigger hauls than Salah on more than one occasion.

            1. Going Home

I guess it's a swings and roundabouts argument. Would you rather have a player who you would back to return every week but not get 20+ points, or someone who will get the same points over the season in a hit and miss fashion?

I probably prefer Salah because he takes out the guesswork. Last season, Sanchez was pretty consistent, and I had the armband on him most weeks. RVP was the same in his last couple of years at Arsenal. But I've been burnt by Kane and Kun this season a couple of times with a 4 point skipper. If you then start missing the hauls, you get frustrated

              1. Pacer.
                • 9 Years
                6 years, 2 months ago

It's about predictability isn't it. If you have players who predictably makes huge hauls against certain teams (Remeber Suarez, was it watford he put four past twice in a season?) or is a flat track bully then explosiveness is a massive boon because your captain score spread across the season has far more potential than just capping Salah week in week out. Players are often not predictable though so it's a gamble, whereas Salah is the ultimate no-gamble, great return.

Things change quickly though. Watch the effect a 25 pointer from a big player has in a week where Salah picks up 10

It's all so hard to decide haha

It was Norwich. Used to love putting them to the sword

I know exactly what you mean - I remember skippering Sanchez at WHU last season because I couldn't afford Kane at home to Swansea. Think Kane got a couple but Alexis with four blew him out of the water (also had Eriksen who bagged goals and assists in the Spurs game).

I just want points - lots and lots of points please haha

I would expect, at best, a single point return from Lascelles. Personally, the fact that he could get booked/ship a shed load would be enough for me to pop him to the bottom of my bench. *If* they do keep a clean sheet, it's unlikely that anyone else will be getting his points either (a bit like if Mee had managed to score one of the gilt-edge chances he had last week)

fair point, well planned double or triple transfer swoop for a couple of big haulers could be good.

I still think there's far too much attention on trying to get a squad of 15, all of whom have a DGW. How many here were burned with Spurs/WHU earlier this season (in the double, I know Son picked up lots of points in following weeks)? How many got rid of Kane when Spurs only had a SGW (last season/the season before?).

Two games is two opportunities, but don't lose sight of form and fixtures

Burnley def every time. I'm sure that you can find a fodder defender with a good chance of doing well in a big DGW though, this situation you've made is a little isolated.

Maybe I am. But the point is that people seem to immediately forget form and fixtures when a DGW rolls around (and that's ignoring the fact that there is often an element of rotation to consider too)

If only this site would hot topic worthy posts rather than hulking Jonty’s rubbish weekly posts.. would make a much better community

I don't mind them, but would like to see more niche subjects or questions hulked - a target of 4 or 5 per day rather than 1 or 2 (excluding Jonty's daily, Price changes, pressers etc) would be good.

Agree. It would be nice to see more niche subjects tackled in an easy to find format, like r/FantasyPL

Pretty much any really great post I see that has had something put into it and has application gets painted green

Jonty's green posts are typically the ones that generate discussion on recurring themes/questions and are useful containers for that. What's not to love

I'm not bothered tbh - it's really difficult to have meaningful strategy talk on here.

plenty of issues/talking points raised in the articles on here but all everyone wants is RMT, gtg etc.

It's not all anyone wants at all, it's just there's no sorting system. If it were a forum then it would be categorised into containers. It's frustrating but it's not the nature of this site

Difficult choice of which 3 defenders to start this GW.. Which 3 would you start out of these?

    Jones - Bellerin - Daniels - Ogbonna - Mee

Currently on Jones, Daniels, Mee but unsure....

I'd play Bellerin as he likes a goal in such fixtures.

Will GW 35 have more matches than GW 31?

Is it possible to have a team who plays GW35 and 2 games in GW 37?

Thoughts on Leicester defenders? Got a transfer to burn so thinking of switching out Maguire for a cheaper option. To a cheaper Leicester option of somebody else like Lowton or Bauer?
