Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Niasse To The Fore

Everton assets make strong cases for investment, while Swansea City’s revival continues and a pair of midfielders do their own prospects no harm for Stoke City and West Ham respectively.

The Toffees responded to their 5-1 mauling at Arsenal last week with a convincing win over Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.

An awful first half was soon forgotten when midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring just after the interval.

The Icelandic international added an assist and was awarded two bonus to take him to 12 points on the day – his first double-digit haul of the season.

His modest returns of four goals and as many assists in the mid-price bracket have deterred serious investment in the perennial Fantasy favourite this campaign.

Sigurdsson is currently owned by just 2.0%, but his price is now down at 8.0 (from a starting point of 8.5) and Everton have the fixtures to spark a rise in his ownership.

A nasty home double against Man City and Liverpool in Gameweeks 32 and 33 is the only blot on the fixture horizon for The Toffees, with Sam Allardyce’s men also one of the four teams currently guaranteed a Gameweek 31 fixture, when they’ll travel to Stoke City.

It is forward Oumar Niasse who is arguably the biggest draw among Everton players, however.

His goal in yesterday’s 3-1 win was his seventh from just eight starts this season and he’s now started the last three matches to emerge as the budget third striker of choice.

The 4.8-priced Niasse also set up Sigurdsson’s opener and maximum bonus brought him a season-high 12 points.

As a result, almost 23,000 managers have reacted by making him the fourth most signed player ahead of Gameweek 28.

Two goals and an assist from his previous two home matches had prompted strong interest in Theo Walcott, with 128,000+ managers bringing him in for the Palace clash.

The former Arsenal man promptly blanked as fellow midfielder Tom Davies scored Everton’s other goal, with defender Cuco Martina chipping in with an assist.

The full-back was part of a defence that again failed to keep a clean sheet – that’s seven straight matches without a shut-out now – and injuries are further clouding the issue at the back.

Eliaquim Mangala went off with a knock just before the break and Seamus Coleman (muscle) followed soon after.

Allardyce brought us this on the setbacks in his post-match comments

“Seamus will have a scan tomorrow, as will Managala. I would have thought Mangala will be the less serious of the two injuries. Manga’s is his knee and Seamus is a muscle as opposed to his leg. He will go for a scan tomorrow.”

That could mean a stay of execution for Jonjoe Kenny (4.3), who had been written off as a budget defensive option following the return of the Irish international.

Kenny has lost 176,000+ in ownership since Gameweek 22 – and dropped in price overnight – but sales could now slow unless Coleman makes a speedy recovery.

As for Palace, Luka Milivojevic’s penalty was his seventh goal of the season and his fourth in a six-Gameweek burst of returns.

Christian Benteke earned the spot-kick to continue a consistent run in which he’s produced a goal and five assists across his last six starts, while his five shots – all in the box – yesterday was second only to Sergio Aguero.

Anyone tempted by Palace assets need to look at the Eagles’ schedule, however.

With Spurs, Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool to face over the next five Gameweeks, interest in Roy Hodgson’s players should stay on the chilly side of lukewarm for now.

Swansea rise goes on

Swansea City have been steadily dragging themselves out of – and more recently away from – the relegation zone since Carlos Carvalhal took charge in December.

And Fantasy managers are starting to take note.

Yesterday’s 1-0 win over Burnley was their third straight victory at home, Ki Sung-yeung scoring the decisive goal from a Kyle Naughton assist.

The side’s most popular player, the 13.7%-owned Jordan Ayew, was bought by 139,000+ managers going into Gameweek 27, although his decision to leave Naughton’s cross for the South Korean midfielder meant only a two-point return for his new owners.

Swans defenders have also been attracting interest, with Federico Fernandez (108,000+), Alfie Mawson (79,000+) and Naughton (38,000+) all delivering clean sheet points for the second time in four Gameweeks.

The side had gone seven matches without a shut-out prior to that, although those with full-back Martin Olsson in their squads were cruelly denied any spoils as their man went off after 58 minutes.

Behind the backline, keeper Lukasz Fabianski (8.7%) continues to produce solid returns for his 4.6 price tag.

Burnley’s toothlessness yesterday – they forced the Pole into action just once all match – meant he failed to bring in any save points for the first time since Gameweek 16.

But his stock should continue to rise with a schedule (bha WHU hud SOT mun wba EVE) now favourable until Gameweek 35.

The Clarets’ slump goes on – they’ve now gone 10 matches without a win and have kept just one clean sheet in nine.

That worrying run could be coming to a close, however.

They have back-to-back home matches next, against Southampton and then Everton, and will face only two of the top six in the remaining 11 fixtures of the season.

Shaqiri keeps on giving

Xherdan Shaqiri has picked up 177,434 new owners over the last three Gameweeks and the Stoke City midfielder has been busy keeping them happy.

He scored in the 1-1 draw with Brighton yesterday and has now produced two goals and an assist for his growing fan base.

Maximum bonus yesterday also took him to 14 bonus points for the season and, in truth, it could have been even better for Shaqiri against the Seagulls.

Stoke were handed a late penalty, which substitute Charlie Adam ended up taking and missing. It would be something of a surprise if the Swiss international isn’t handed spot-kick duties from now on.

New manager Paul Lambert had overseen two straight clean sheets at home before yesterday, which was a blow for the 23,000+ FPL bosses who had brought in budget defender Moritz Bauer (4.5).

The blemish was down to a fine strike from Jose Izquierdo – his second consecutive goal for a Brighton side that had netted just once in seven previous away matches.

The midfielder had four shots on the day, three of which came in the area, although the Seagulls’ schedule (SWA ARS eve mci) offers only limited potential for Izquierdo to continue his fine form.

Arnautovic back with a bang

Four Gameweeks ago, West Ham midfielder Marko Arnautovic was in three quarters of a million FPL squads.

By the time he returned from a two-match injury lay-off yesterday, that figure had slumped to just under 200,000.

The 3.8% who held on to him were rewarded with a goal as the Hammers saw off Watford 2-0.

His strike was his seventh in nine Gameweek starts; a consistency that will be sorely tested over the run-in.

David Moyes’ side still have to face Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City before the end of the season, with three of those fixtures away from home.

That hasn’t dissuaded managers from returning to the Arnautovic fold – he’s currently the third most popular purchase of Gameweek 28.

Some 39,000 had tapped into Chicharito’s potential ahead of the Watford match and he responded with a third goal in four Gameweeks.

The Mexican striker is still found in 429,000+ squads, although that’s way down on his peak of 1.4 million in Gameweek 4.

Assists on the day came from Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio, the latter making his first start since Gameweek 19.

The Hammers hadn’t kept a clean sheet since the match before that, so a rare shut-out was decidedly welcome for the relatively well-owned Angelo Ogbonna (5.3%).

His fellow centre-half James Collins profited the most, however, as maximum bonus earned him a season-high haul of nine points.

Only Arsenal pair Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were bought by more managers than the 192,000+ who went for Watford midfielder Gerard Deulofeu going into the Gameweek.

The Barcelona loanee had caught many an eye with a goal, an assist, maximum bonus and 13 points in the win over Chelsea.

But he was considerably more subdued yesterday, reduced to one goal attempt and a single chance created during a 74-minute blank.

Promising home matches against Everton and West Brom come next, while Watford also guarantee a Gameweek 31 fixture, albeit at Liverpool.

Congratulations to people who switched from Kane to Aguero after TOT-EVE. I was a stubborn fool who didn't dare to do that.

Sideways move at this stage of the season where transfers are like gold. I would rather bring in other players who are not blanking in BGW31...assuming you are not playing your FH chip then.

So i have 2 more transfers to spend but no sure if it's better to get 2 defenders or change Choupo. Jese is also back in the squad so his minutes could be reduced.

" I just wonder how they would do without the benefit of the FFS website. I say take it down for a couple of weeks and see how it goes"

Whether Granville likes or not, the community and members on this site are the reason why Mark is fortunate enough to have a Fantasy Football related job providing a source of income.

Seems like a childish hot topic. It's just usual behaviour from some. We've been told to deal with it in the past and to flag anything that goes against T&C's, so why can't you? Let's just make a hot topic instead, rile up more angry people and get a load of up votes.

Hot Topics are very relaxed - we've had previous ones on favourite films etc. Don't read anything into it being a HT - see my comment below. Sometimes, when we get a long active thread, we make it a HT - wasn't my decision but I didn't see the need to reverse it.

When you are a panel of pundits, essentially what the FFS scoutcast is, then you have to expect to come in for criticism. I personally bought Aguero, but on the other hand I didn't get Shaqiri. Stand by your own decisions.

But Granville needs to log off, grab a beer and chill the F out.

Ladies and gentleman, I have some news, IT IS JUST A GAME.

I think there is a lot of truth to what Granville says. People want to have their cake and eat it. If they make a bad decision then (i) they don't take ownership for it and (ii) they blame someone else (another poster or the Scoutcast). If they make a good decision then they are a genius and they don't give anyone else any credit.

Lot of weak-minded behaviour IMO. You have your own FPL team, make your own decisions and live with them.

Granville spoke for himself. I didn't censor it as I felt that wasn't the right thing to do but those are his own views, not mine.

I have chipped in on discussions since, though to give my thoughts - I'm all good with criticism when it's all fair. Some of it has been, some of it hasn't but that's life. So yeah, I'm more philosophical about it all than Granville was last night.

I didn't make it a HT either but I can why it was since it was getting a lot of chatter so that's fair enough. We don't need any more on it though.

Granville's comments are his own and, of course, I don't endorse that quote you pick out. But like I say, I also didn't want to censor.

It's how Granville felt at the time - not sure how he is feeling now. He speaks for himself not me or FFS. I think folk understand that. Like a lot of posters on here, he's passionate.

I wasn't going to censor the post - I didn't think that was right, either, no matter how much I disagreed with his sentiment and his reaction.

Well said Mark. I thought Granvilles comments were wrong as they were too negative and reactive. There are a lot of great people on site and fantasy football has become a bit of a monster with over 5 million now playing the game. There are trolls in every social media outlet. They just need to be banned if they are out of order. I think you guys do a fantastic job and love your scoutcasts. This game can become extremely addictive and ac people spend more time in it the more disappointed they will be when they miss out on a high scoring player. It is your own responsibility as to who you pick. I still think a Salah haul today and some people will realise not having aguero not the disaster it is being portrayed. Keep up the good work lads

We can simplyfy this whole situation down.

The Scoutcast team never said that Aguero was a bad pick.

The only reason none of them acquired his services because he didn’t seem right for their individual teams at the time (I don’t own him either as he would have taken too much ripping apart of my squad).

None of the Scoutcast team advocated that Aguero was in fact a poor choice and should restrictions on price and formation (many of them carried more big hitters in midfield than up top) not have existed i’m sure at least a few of them would be laid back last night gazing at their 42 point captain.

Those that are trying to pin blame on the Scoutcast team being the reason they are say without Aguero is pathetic. This site is here to ‘assist’ us in making ‘our own’ decisions. Not to decide our teams for us.

I was in a similar set-up to many of the Scoutcast’s teams in that my team was heavily favoured towards midfield, more so in fact than most as Kane, Ayew (previously DLC) and Quaner has been my strike force since GW17, therefore to acquire Aguero along with Kane would have meant major reshuffling for me. I didn’t get Aguero and I’ve lost out. I watch the Scoutcast each week and would still not have got Aguero in my team even if I’d not watched it. I have lost a lot of ground in my ML’s last night with Aguero and KDB heavily favoured. I’m still confident that my decisions from now until the season end can help me overcome my rivals. Wether I do or don’t, FFS will have made it easier for me to try and plug the gap with their ‘assistance’ and I’m confident without FFS if have a very hard time trying to get anywhere near close to closing the gap I now have in front of me.

Storm in a tea cup. It's nothing just pure emotion and there was a lot flying about yesterday. The fact is it was a topic...and with so many responses it became " hot" .

Everyone posts things they may regret at a later date. I cringe at some of my red mist posts. Obviously someone hit a nerve and he reacted off emotion. Pointless keeping it going imo

Competely agree. Granny’s post was clearly ripe with emotion. Anyone that owns Aguero should have been in a good enough mood to not be bothered about the comment and those that don’t know the exact feelings of hurt Granville was facing last night.

This is all way over the top to be making so much of his comments. People are being far too easily offended, or more than likely just trying to gain attention.

Or should I sack off Alder and get Davies?

Yeah without using hindsight, the return of Jesus (movie in the making) was never a factor for me. I had Aguero while Jesus was fit and he was still getting the minutes as Jesus was out of favour so I’m still to this day unsure what everyone was so concerned about.

Morning everyone, 60 points with Alonso, Jones, Salah and Hazard to play. Not too bad but had Kane as Kaptain (of course) rather than Kun.

Early thoughts on this lot, not made any transfers for a few weeks so still have 2FT.
Thinking Adrian to Foster with 1 of them? Brom have some good fixtures after Chelsea.

    Adrian
    Alonso | Jones | Mee
    Salah | Sterling | Hazard | Mili
    Kane | Aguero | Ayew

    Elliot | T.Carroll | Dummett | Simpson

    0.1ITB 2FT

    Any other ideas?

Will Official FPL ever 'unlock the feature' that would allow us to view prior seasons, in particular gameweeks. There should be a dropdown box option that allows us to filter by season and then being able to view individual gameweeks of a prior season. Can this please be suggested to Official FPL Headquarters?

And Leicester changes from 5 at the back to 4. Shocking 45 mins. Thought aguero might get 1 tops. Let's hope the saints keeper also has a mare and salah gets 3 today

The irony was, at half-time I thought Leicester might nick it!

They looked secure enough and I thought Schmeichel looked assured first half. He had a shocker in the second.

Still can't work out what Puel was doing changing the system at half-time.

I captained kun because it was LEICESTER AT HOME and he is a world class player . I come on to this site for sometimes funny banter and sometimes funny trashtalking. not endless RMT's constant need for approval any decisions I make have nothing to do with this site or people arguing on a podcast for an hour. there is so much noise on here. all it takes for someone to change their minds is a few people posting 'yes' to kane or kun (C)? and your gut instinct goes out the window. you've made a decision based on 6 or 7 people giving you the same answer rather than the knowledge you have gained from watching an unhealthy amount of football over the years. there is a big big overestimation on just what this site provides. I see it as a sometimes helpful guide. why does it need to be anything more than that? your playing the game , nobody else is.

I use those 6 or 7 people to gauge what the consensus on here is - then I can decide whether to go template/dullard (usually) or maverick.

Doesn't the captain poll give you the consensus?

6 or 7 people is not a consensus though, its just a majority decision from 6 or 7 people. the vast majority of info on here are fuelled by confirmation bias. that rules the roost. you own shaq well your going to tell people to buy shaq.

This. You can't blame someone for telling you to cap Kane instead of Kun, he just gave you his opinion and you decide..

I like when the sheets come out on time maybe just enough to have an edge over those nasty bookie chappies.

      That's much appreciated.

An easy ask for the rest of the GW to bring a modicum of respectability..
    19k-> 49k atm. (6k->19k last GW).

    Philip Anthony~ CS + a Bonus pt.
Paul Pogba~ Goal or a couple of Assists.
Mo Salah (c)~ Goal + Assist.
Bob Firmino ~ Goal + Assist.
    Cal Wilson~ Goal..
