The ScoutCast – Episode 250 – Cupset

With our end of season plans now at the mercy of the FA Cup fifth round, we slot in an extra show to absorb all the post Gameweek 27 chatter, in anticipation of another bumper episode to come.

Given Sergio Aguero’s 21-point impact – and the fact that the ScoutCast crew all missed out – we just couldn’t neglect the opportunity to front up and give our verdict on the Kanexit#2.

Jonty, Andy and Az join me in attempting to justify our actions and dismiss our disappointment before we debate whether the Argentinian should be now ruthlessly ejected from squads.

Meanwhile, your questions steer us to assess Mohamed Salah’s relentless consistency and captaincy credentials, while I make excuses for my own armband misdemeanours by blaming my reckless awards on a lack of season heroes.

We dabble in some early Gameweek 31 musings, while Jonty has 31 attempts at pronouncing Luka Milivojevic.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        2 actually 😉

I asked about "Kunexit", and the fixture swing for big hitters starting GW28, effectively a positive swing for Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal, and a Negative one for Utd, City and Chelsea

Here's to the next 250. The scoutcast is the best thing on the telly imo.

Very good scoutcast this week. The answers to my Aguero question were incredibly detailed from all.

I'm dismayed that my question was "reluctantly" chosen, however. The questions should be chosen purely on merit. If it's a great question, get it on the show. Simple as that. It shouldn't be personal at all.

I assumed there would be some personal bias going on, somehow. Somewhat understandable since the Scoutmembers are (probably) human.

You post a lot of crap, but you clearly think about those questions every week, and usually half of them are better than the average question asked on the HT.

I think I've only posed one question to the Scoutcast team since earlier in the season when Jonty made it clear that my questions were invalid because I'd already put too much thought into them haha. (Before going on to answer most of them in the following 2 or 3 Scoutcasts) #notbitter

To be fair, there are a realms and realms of question ... and only 4 or 5 can be selected in a given week. Not great odds I suppose.

I don't just mean I was unlucky to have been chosen haha. I'm talking about the replies I got. Nvm 🙂

I think most people submit a question in the hope of being namechecked in front of 35,000 of their FPL peers. But for me I just like to submit really tough questions that I can't answer to see if they can.

Personally don't think it's much of a gamble. Would get him if he has a game in GW31 and if I could fit him in my team. Unfortunately, my team has moved on since his absence and may need an injury for him to come back in. Good chance of getting him on a WC in GW 32 or 33 though.

Arsenal's fall from grace is spectacular if you think about it. They will never be a force again due to Wenger and mostly their fan base.

The likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and United have stayed relevant through tough time and have and will bounce back. It's a shame as they were once the mosi exciting team to watch and absolute powerhouse in world football.

They may have never been a force in the PL only for Wenger.
I agree that a minority of the fans that seem to get a lot of air time via Arsenal so called Fan TV do leave the club down though.

Liverpool still have never won the PL and Chelsea and United are financial giants of the game ans Arsenal have done well to keep in touch at all and that is all down to Wenger imo.

Actually won it five times the last been in 04/05 (fluked it) and the last win before that was in 83/84 season.

Arsenal have been much more of a presents in the CL over the last 20 years than Liverpool have even though they not manage to win it.

What tough times did Chelsea go through? After Roman there has been no tough time. Before Roman they were irrelevant. And how did Pool remain relevant? By singing that corny song every time they finished outside CL places? If any team fell swiftly from grace it is Pool. And they will probably never regain the perch as long as the Manchester clubs are around.

When Wenger kept claiming that finishing in Top 4 every season was an achievement he was trolled. Now Spurs, Pool and United will be feted for doing nothing else.

To answer the main point of the OP, Arsenal were punching above their weight under Wenger in his first decade and half. After that he lost his way no doubt.

Last five years they have had the resources to compete for titles and needed to go for a younger elite manager. The mistake was and is not being ruthless enough to usher Wenger out after thanking him. In a way they have stumbled into a position of financial strength but have not adapted to it. Blame it on the owner and the Board. Not Wenger alone.

the elite manager duck shoot isnt particularly appealing for a board. all the other teams have flicked between managers every couple of years and some havent had much success.
wenger is long past it though and will be gone in may

That is a separate issue and I don’t take issue with that. The OP elided that. So if we were never a powerhouse then there is no fall from grace. But we set the standards in PL. the idea behind the new stadium was to leverage that sporting success into financial success and cement the gains. Unforutnately the changes in ownership and decline in Wenger’s own high standards led to stagnation on the pitch.

There is a case to be made that all the traditional ‘powehouses’ In England have slipped in the last five years. Only Chelsea and City have been successful in this period.

They basically said they would do the swap back to Kane for Kane’s run of nice fixtures.

Most people’s logic for bringing Aguero in was for his good fixtures whilst Kane’s were bad.
So the same logic can be applied now that Kane’s got the fixtures but Aguero hasn’t.

Reports from France that Pogba is completely p*ssed off with Mourinho playing him as a CDM and wants to leave in the summer.

Mourinho really is a crap manager who's list of world class players he has let slip, or reduced to rubbish, continues to grow...Pogba, KDB, Salah, Hazard...it just goes on and on...

Never mind...at least he has Lingard and Carrick to fill the hole/s left by Pogba.
