The FA Cup Solutions – Part Two

As discussed in yesterday’s article, the forthcoming two rounds of FA Cup fixtures will impact heavily on the Premier League schedules for Gameweeks 31 and 35 respectively.

The Premier League teams who advance past the FA Cup fifth round – which gets underway this evening – and make it to the quarter-finals are set to blank in Gameweek 31.

Meanwhile, those who clinch a place in the semi-finals will also be without a fixture in Gameweek 35.

New to Fantasy Premier League (FPL) for this season, the Free Hit Chip looks tailor-made as a means to cope with these reduced sets of matches.

We’ll be looking at the strategies involved when wielding this chip as we attempt to navigate this tricky part of the season.

Having looked over the merits of using a Free Hit Chip in Gameweek 31 yesterday, we now turn our attention to what has emerged as the favoured tactic – the plan to hold for now and instead activate in Gameweek 35.

To follow, we’ll also roll out the third article in this series, which will attempt to aid those FPL managers who have already deployed their Free Hit chip.

The Fixtures

We currently have four league fixtures set to go ahead in Gameweek 35.

Everton vs Newcastle
Arsenal vs West Ham
Stoke vs Burnley
Watford vs Crystal Palace

And here’s the FA Cup Fifth Round draw, with two matches getting underway this evening.

Leicester vs Sheffield United
Chelsea vs Hull
Sheffield Wednesday vs Swansea
West Brom vs Southampton
Brighton vs Coventry
Huddersfield vs Man United
Rochdale vs Spurs
Wigan vs Man City

Of the remaining six Gameweek 35 matches still at risk, four of them require both sides involved to be knocked out of the FA Cup – either in the fifth round or quarter-finals stage – for the league fixture to stay intact.

These are:

Leicester vs Southampton
Chelsea vs Huddersfield
Man City vs Swansea
Brighton v Spurs

However, there are two FA Cup scenarios which require a defeat for just one of the Premier League sides involved – either in the fifth round or quarter-finals – to impact on Gameweek 35.

If Man United either lose away to Huddersfield or in the last eight, then the Red Devils will travel to Bournemouth in Gameweek 35.

And if West Brom are defeated by Southampton – a team they’ve lost twice to already this term – or in the last eight, then the Baggies entertain Liverpool in Gameweek 35.

The Gameweek 35 Free Hit – The Pros

One of the main advantages of playing the Free Hit chip in Gameweek 35 is that the very nature of semi-finals means there can only be four teams involved.

Therefore, even if that quartet are all top-flight teams, there can only be a maximum of four matches postponed – or, in other words, a minimum of six Gameweek 35 matches going ahead. That should offer us a wider pool of talent to recruit from with the Free Hit.

Again, your approach will likely depend on whether you have the second Wildcard available.

With the Wildcard still in hand, you could plan to deploy this in Gameweek 32 – prior to the international break. This would also allow you to benefit from a 15-day gap between deadlines, granting extra thinking time and perhaps more potential to play the market for price rises.

The alternative is to delay the Wildcard until Gameweek 33, though that will kill the potential to carry over two free transfers prior to Gameweek 34 (if you build to bank your Gameweek 33 transfer). It’s arguable whether that counters an extra week of minimising injury or suspension, or whether having two Free Transfers on the eve of the double Gameweek is more powerful.

With that decided, managers can then focus their current transfer policy on a mix of players with strong fixtures between Gameweeks 28-31, including a range of acquisitions with the blanks in Gameweek 31 in mind.

This strategy will task managers with setting their ambitions for Gameweek 31, depending on the number of fixtures taking place.

Those who already own a handful of key assets – such as Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Theo Walcott, Oumar Niasse and Xherdan Shaqiri – may feel content to avoid the use of further transfers on active players. That allows the freedom to concentrate instead on options with strong fixtures from Gameweeks 28-30 – with Spurs assets presenting obvious attractions.

The strategy then expands to play the Wildcard in Gameweek 32, clearing out unwanted assets left over from the Gameweek 31 preparations. The focus of this Wildcard would be to recruit players guaranteed two fixtures in both Gameweek 34 and in Gameweek 37.

Gameweek 32 falls after the Quarter-Finals which means we will know the semi-final line-up since no replays will be played. This means we will be aware of the teams and players who will sit out Gameweek 35 and likely handed another double-header in Gameweek 37.

This then adds extra value to the Free Hit, since it allows recruitment for the Bench Boost in Gameweek 34 with total disregard for the blanks that immediately follow in Gameweek 35.

If the Free Hit has been used, or is deployed in Gameweek 31, then any Wildcard recruitment and transfers for the Bench Boost in Gameweek 34 will have to strike a balance between those teams with two fixtures and those missing Gameweek 35.

This restricts the freedom with the Wildcard and transfers heading into Gameweek 34; it could, therefore, make the Bench Boost somewhat less effective.

Without the Free Hit chip to play in Gameweek 35, it is more difficult to have a strong full Bench Boosted 15 man squad in Gameweek 34, while also fielding a full XI in Gameweek 35. It can be done by spending points on transfers or by focusing only on those teams that are knocked out in the quarter-finals. However, this, in turn, will impact on the strength of the Gameweek 37 squad.

That may even convince some managers to reverse their strategy, deploying the Bench Boost in Gameweek 37 and the Triple Captain in 34. The main issue here is that teamsheets around Gameweek 37 are more difficult to predict: nailing a captain could be a lot easier than maximising 15 players to play twice in quick succession.

If you don’t have a Wildcard, holding the Free Hit Chip until Gameweek 35 rather than deploying in Gameweek 31 still looks likely to be the more popular strategy, particularly if only three fixtures remain following the fifth round.

However, these managers must still be wary with Gameweek 31 recruitment. Overload on active Gameweek 31 players and they will likely need to spend points on transfers to speed the transition to double Gameweek 34 and 37 players.

The Gameweek 35 Free Hit – The Cons

If you have all your chips available, the drawbacks of this strategy seem quite minimal.

There are two clear risks involved. For one, you will likely fail to achieve a full XI for Gameweek 31 and therefore run the risk of losing ground should a popular player that you overlook deliver a big score.

This means you have to try to mitigate this risk by acquiring the key targets mentioned. However, there is then the knock-on of being distracted by these players, only to miss out on big scorers in teams that are inactive in Gameweek 31.

Those using the Free Hit in Gameweek 31 have the freedom to exploit favourable schedules for Spurs (STK BOU wba), Burnley (SOT EVE whu) and Swansea (bha WHU hud) for example. If they bring in assets from these teams that fly in the next three Gameweeks, you may need the likes of Walcott and Shaqiri to keep pace over the same spell. Not impossible given their fixtures and form, but a consideration nonetheless.

The scale of the risk involved depends on the number of Gameweek 31 options you already own and the ambitions you set yourself in terms of the sweet spot for active players.

Another potential issue could be that, by Gameweek 35, the landscape in terms of team and player motivation may have shifted.

Of the eight sides guaranteed to feature in Gameweek 35, five of them – Newcastle, Stoke, West Ham, Watford and Crystal Palace – are currently relegation candidates.

If any of these teams have their fate sealed by Gameweek 35, there’s a chance that, with less at stake, their key targets for a Free Hit squad will be less profitable than in Gameweek 31, when there is still very much all to play for.

In Conclusion

As discussed in yesterday’s piece, navigating this period and optimising the Free Hit Chip is relative to a host of factors that each FPL manager needs to consider.

This includes the state of your current squad, the number of chips at your disposal, and the fixtures on offer in both Gameweek 31 and 35.

As mentioned above, the worst-case scenario for Gameweek 35 is six matches. We already know eight teams taking part – Everton, Newcastle, Arsenal, West Ham, Stoke, Burnley, Watford and Crystal Palace – while at least four more sides will be added to that list.

But on the other hand, Gameweek 31 could present just three fixtures.

Essentially, looking at the scenario’s for both Gameweeks, we could have, at the very least, double the number of teams to consider with the Gameweek 35 Free Hit. The theory is that the more options we have at our disposal, the better chance we have of profiting when building a Free Hit squad.

In addition, deploying the Free Hit chip in Gameweek 35 allows for more freedom with Wildcard recruitment in Gameweek 32, which in turn benefits our squads for the Bench Boosted double Gameweek 34 and the late double in Gameweek 37.

This is a very powerful argument in favour of the later Free Hit strategy.

However, a loss for Man United at Huddersfield tomorrow could yet alter our view.

The Red Devils’ trip to West Ham would slot in as the third confirmed fixture for Gameweek 31, bringing both Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez onto the radar as powerful differentials. That would shift more potential power the way of managers deploying the Free Hit earlier.

The results from the FA Cup fifth round matches will decide matters, with the draw for the quarter-finals on Saturday offering further clarity.

We will be providing a recap of the impact of the fifth round on the Free Hit strategies in our Scout Notes over the weekend.

But for the final part of this FA Cup impact series, we move to assess the state of play and likely strategy for those who have already spent their Free Hit chip.

I was thinking of playing my wildcard in Gameweek 33 as it is closer to Gameweek 34 when I can use a bench boost. Using it in GWK 33 rather than GWK 32 would in theory give me extra information re line ups and ensure I can maximise that wildcard...basically one less week for injuries and suspensions to happen.

Why is the concensus to use it in GWK 32 not GWK 33? Are the fixtures that markedly different then?

Liverpool away to Palace....we'll already be well stocked up on their players.

I think waiting may offer more benefit.

Just curious as to why the assumption from many is that GWK 32 is when a wildcard is best played for those using a FH chip in GWK 35 and Bench Boosting for the Double in GWK 34. GWK 33 makes more sense to me.

See below. Arguably, having the extra FT even later leading into GW34 is even more handy.

Ah, I see. Well that makes sense.

So essentially if we use it in GWK 32 we get an extra transfer. If we use it in GWK 33 we don't as the FH chip doesn't count re transfer accumulation.

The extra transfer angle may sell it for me.

Yeah, a WC kills the second transfer. A pain.

Also, Stoke and Everton have terrible fixtures in GW32 so we can clear out Shaqiri and Walcott. Arguably, we can keep Salah in our GW32 WC and use one of the two FT's in 34 to swap him out for the double. Could do the same with another Liverpool attacker I guess.

Even if we WC in GW33, aren't we going to keep Salah to the last minute?

Great. The fact that GWK 32 wildcard actually generates an extra transfer further down the line, whereas the GWK 33 doesn't is huge. Hadn't even occured to me until now.

I think the key though will be those GWK 35 fixtures.

The wildcard is such an important chip- if being used with GWK 35 and 37 in mind then it may well be that teams with a good fixt in GWK 32 are no use..

Arsenal and Liverpool play in 35. So a FH chip could also come in handy for those who are saving it for GW 35

I'm not sure why people are obsessed with using the WC in 32 or 33.

If you've built a team for 31, most of those covering blanks will be active in 35.

You are allowed to bench 4 of them so no one is forcing you to play all of them, the 3 Liverpool players you have will all be played in the period of 31-35 meaning benching Walcott or Shaqiri is not an issue.

What I don't understand is, why would you wildcard those players out after 31 (when they can be benched) so you can just waste your FHC in 35 getting them back for one week?

Surely makes more sense to plan for 31-35 with transfers & then clean up the whole mess in 36 ready for the final DGW when your wildcard can focus on one DGW and give yourself the chance to use that FHC as a more powerful tool in say GW38 as opposed to in 35 when you'll more than likely use it to have the same players as everyone else because the template will be so small.

It's like these chips have come along and taken away people's desire to get a pen and paper out while forgetting they have the ability to plan through spells like this when they've done it for years successfully.

A manager carrying GW31 players into 35 presumably won't be bench boosting in GW34.

By WC'ing in 32 and making two FT's in 34, a potential 15 man DGW squad can be built.

I think a squad built to withstand GW35 might struggle against that.

BB is not attractive in 34 anyway.

                      Liverpool V Bournmouth
                      Hudds V Watford
                      Swansea V Everton
                      West Ham V Stoke.

You would have wasted transfers getting these players in who will all be available in 35 and have decent enough fixtures in 34, if you play 3 Liverpool players as standard, you'll only have 12 Double players anyway, what's wrong with having 6/7/8 double players + 3 Liverpool in 34 and going full on in the 37 double because by then, the players from Stoke, Everton and Watford have no purpose, they do in 35.

Imagine being able to bench boost in 37, spread all your funds across 15 players in 37 for the BB and then use the FHC IN 38 to get the money off your bench for a blockbuster final week?

Too many closed minds with this FHC, GW31 and GW35 are perhaps the worst time to use it as most without it will plan for 8 players anyway so your advantage will only be 3 players they don't have and I'm guessing it will be the 3 players they didn't feel were worth getting or they would have.

But FH and BB are dependent on the ability to hit the selection of 11-15 players spot on.

You'd be doing that in GW37 and 38 when predicting teamsheets is very difficult.

If the top four race and relegation battle is still on, then fine. But it might not be.

GW34 there should be fewer doubts on any team resting and rotating or lacking motivation.

The flip side to that is in 34 you will have to throw out single players who have every chance of coming back to bite you because you're forcing the wildcard/b2b week, guessing most will keep Salah but are you really going to bin Firmino H to Bournmouth or Walcott A to Swansea (even Shaqiri at West Ham, Doucoure at Hudds have potential) if they are hitting numbers and have a fixture the following week? Walcott H to Newcastle in 35 looks attractive straight away.

Spurs and Leicester players killed the DGW 2 years ago when people got rid of them to maximise the BB because they ran riot the week before, people will bottle losing Firmino and all if they are producing.

Liverpool, Everton, Watford & Stoke have opportunity for points in 34 and 35, over the years these BB weeks have been more about the players you lose as much as the players you get in, Kane away at Stoke killed many DGWs before it even started.

Speculating on which double week will be better other is pointless as you have no idea where the fixtures will be plotted.

With regards to rotation, this year is quite unique, there is no title race, the top 5 look locked in, all 6 English teams have a strong chance of progressing in Europe, nailing the team sheets will carry equal risks in 34 as it would 37.

But that's the case when you use the BB in a DGW regardless of when the GW drops. Unless you're not BB for a DGW, there's always that risk of single GW players stinging.

You can keep Walcott and Shaqiri for GW34 but then you have to hold them in GW32 and GW33 and fixtures are awful so that surely counters their better fixtures in GW34 - Stoke have Arsenal and Spurs. Everton have City and Liverpool.

Walcott and Shaqiri having awful fixs in 32 and 33 is not really an issue, most squads will carry 3 Liverpool and a load of players who blank in 31, they are easily benched unless you have a horrific bench.

An example, my 8 for 31 are...

Pickford, Walcott, Dacoure, Shaqiri, Van Djik, Salah, Firmino + Wilson (or a striker in 31 if he don't have a fixture)

The rest who have doubles who I'll retain and play between 32 and 35 are...

Alonso, Otamendi, Mee, Sterling, Jones, Kane and either Pope or Heaton.

I'm set up to play those 6 + van Djik, Salah and Firmino meaning there's only 1 of Sterling, Shaqiri or Docoure needed.

More money on the bench until the WC allows me to get through it, don't see their awful fixtures being an issue when only 1 will have to play if they all stay, transfers allow Arsenal players to come into the mix which can't be forgotten.

The Free Hit in GW35 is not all about maximising the score in that GW, it's about being able to build for a BB in GW34 without any consideration for the blanks.

That seems quite powerful to me, but it depends on how the fixtures fall and who has the GW35 blanks.

It's a lazy way of approaching this and arguably a waste of a chip, ask yourself how you coped in the 10+ years you played the game before this chip was invented and if you struggled.

I'd argue that the chips were designed to give you a one off rank boost not go for a template selection in a tiny week and minimise the chance of an explosion because it's convenient or you can't be bothered to figure it out the old skool way.

It's the first time we've had the FH chip. We're not being definite on whether this is the right strategy - it's a popular theory and you're right to challenge it.

But equally, I don't think you can be so definite in your appraisal of it being "lazy" and a "waste".

Nobody really knows but the theory looks sound and, of course, this is part of "fun" at this stage of the season to speculate on this kind of thing.

Let's see what the FAC give us.

When else do you suggest we use this chip? There’s 10 GWKs left and most of us still have all 4 chips. Time is running out and this is the best plan I’ve seen.

It has merit but if you WC in 33, you can't carry 2 FT's into GW34 since the WC wipes out carried over transfers.

If you WC in 32 and save in 33, you have 2 FT's for 34 with the extra info you mention but even later info!

Was just looking at this myself and I'm also favouring 33. The fixtures in 32 look reasonable enough for my team and I know I'll want Spurs and Chelsea assets for the DGWs but don't particularly want to load up on them when they play each other in GW32. Triple Pool, which everyone will have for GW31, is a decent foundation for GW32 as they have a good fixture that week. West Brom, Bournemouth, Huddersfield and Southampton also have okay fixtures in 32 and could potentially play in GW31..

Although, thinking about it if you wildcard GWK 33, BB GWK 34, use FH GWK 35, save a transfer GWK 36 you could go into GWK 37 with two frees - which could be even more valuable as we will know more about possible Europe rotation then.

Be good to get some clarity on this. Really crucial to using hits. Why does the BB not kill the transfer as the others do? Surely would make sense for all chips or none of them to kill a transfer to make it consistent.

I am dead ending in gw31 and will wc in gw32. Some teams like arsenal have great double fixtures where I can get likes of Mkhitaryan auba and monreal in. Can steal a march on anyone who waits. Plus can’t see a smooth transition from gw31 to 32 unless you are free hitting

          That is very persuasive too.

All depends though whether we want Arsenal for GWK 34 and 37 though I guess.

Get 1 or 2 Arsenal players for 34 probably. They play both in Away in GW 34 so its not a concern for now unless they show some away form.

Probably Monreal is the best option. He is getting some attacking returns and also can get a cs in that dgw

Worth noting the tactical advantage in WC 33 as can see what rivals do in money leagues.

Another great point. With rivals wildcarding GWK 32 we see their side and can block good ones and get better differentials.

I think my conclusion is that the argument for GWK 32 or 33 wildcard is certainly not cut and dry and there are strong arguments for either week.

FA Cup this weekend will tell us more.

Extra info vs extra transfer (if you decide to roll it)

Cheers, that sums it up perfectly.

I do wonder if extra info could be worth more.

Extra transfer is essentially saving four points. Extra info could make more.

So the ceiling of GWK 32 wildcard is specifically 4 pts regarding the extra transfer

The ceiling of GWK 33 wildcard could be far higher if there happens to be lots of new information, suspensions, injuries, rotation etc.

Also important to note that a lot of people will probably WC on 32 over the 2 week break so prices won’t probably move much.

Yep, I raised that earlier. This season has shown already that there is no price advantage wildcarding in a break.

Sure, but we haven't had a scenario whereby managers without the WC are driven to load up on DGW assets. A bigger number of rises and falls over GW32 and 33 are very possible I think.

You might be okay WC'ing asap for GW33 but I think there will be a good deal of rises between GW31 and 32.

Players that blank in 31 will likely go down off the back of sales heading into the GW31 deadline, so there's a chance of snapping them up at a cheaper price if we WC in 32.

By this point if we are able to field a decent 11 for gw 35 with FH then it could be used in 38. We can either get differentials to chase points or Block some of the players to not lose points

If ARS have a blank in GW31, then their GW31 match could be moved to either GW34 or GW37.

Also, if MCI draw in the 5th round, then MCI v ARS could be moved from GW28 to GW34 or GW37.

I have made drafts for gws 32-34. Arsenal have 2 great hime games in 32 & 33 so Monreal Mkhi and Auba could enable me to steal a march in gw32 and they have decent fixtures in gw34 too if things go as we expect. Chelsea and spurs play each other but Man U at home to Swansea in gw32 so Sanchez my come into my thinking. If I play my Wildcard in gw32 it will be to maximise my points in gw32 have a great team for gw33 and have 2 fts for gw34 in case I need them. Also looking to Bb in gw35. Think you have to be open minded and see what works best but this is my plan for now. I think the wc should be used for maximum benefit not just for the dbgws. If someone can see my team in gw33 then I can still make 2 changes in gw34 for differentials. I prefer to go on the front foot

Great discussion above, very interesting angle on the saved transfer aspect.

There's also the simple benefit to consider that by WC in 32 rather than 33 you gain the benefit of playing your WC for an additional gameweek 🙂

It seems I am in the minority with FH31, WC36, BB37.

A WC BB combo team is always a bit of a compromise with cash spread across the squad and a more expensive bench than normal

The issue with a WC in 32 is that you then have to carry that squad and ££££ bench through to 37, and with the FH in 35 that gives you just 3 transfers (FH in 35) up to 37.

My FH in 31 allows me to plan from now with about 6 transfers for DGW34, the BGW 35 has 6 games (minimum) and will give me 11 good players with Liverpool and maybe two other big teams not blanking

I think I will avoid the FFS herd this time 🙂

I agree, if the FAC results go as i suspect then I will only have 3 players in 31 and there is no point in doing anything but FH in 31, keeping my 12 players that have double game weeks and using transfers as normal on route to FGW34.

Again can you put a disclaimer that this is based on your teams.. FH 31 is still in play for people who haven’t planned or just have a different team to the so called template.. the fixtures in 31 are really few anyway.. this means FH31, save fts TC 34, wc 36 is looking very doable and much better imo..

WC GW32 would be the consensus prior to the international break. This would also allow us to benefit from a 15-day gap between deadlines, granting extra thinking time and perhaps more potential to play the market for price rises and get rid of the deadwood from GW 31.

Cue a bunch of posts linking to other sites and podcasts trying to cover the same hypotheticals. I think the over/under will be around 8 - I'll take the over.

Is that why the articles are coming out before the matches that will determine the strategies are actually played? It seems a bit premature unless neutrals are using these as a guide for whom to support this weekend based on FPL schedule implications?

      Pope (Elliot)

Jones - Otta - Hegazi - Ogbonna (Mbemba)

      Salah - Sterling - Shaquiri - Lingard - Richarlison

      Agruero - Kane - Wilson

      2 ft's, so:

      Otta > VVD
      Aguero > Firmino

For free, then Lingard > KDB next week

      Seem legit?

Or swerve KDB to mahrez and upgrade Richa to Mki maybe?

Forgive me if this has already been muted but what about my alternative strategy.

Concentrate on GW31 players ( once draw is known focus on ones that also play GW35.

Use free hit in GW34 to get a full squad of DGWs

WC GW36 get squad full of DGWs

      Bench Boost GW37

      1. Pasqualinho
        • 14 Years
        6 years, 2 months ago

Yes - I think there will be some teams out there that suit this strategy. If you have a half-decent team for GW31 then you shouldn't have a problem with the GW35 blanks too. Which means your free hit is not best used in a blank week - therefore a DGW is just as good an opportunity to use it.

Due to peculiarities of my ML (which is a hybrid of the regular and draft games in which mgrs can't poach players already on another team - unless using FH chip), the ability to use the FH for a DGW in which a high-performing player I don't have (think Mo Salah) has two matches seems very appealing. A problem I haven't yet sorted, though, is I will also want to use Bench Boost and TC chis during DGWs. Is there any prospect of more than two DGWs?

Hmmm. I may do the FH for DGW regardless and just find a non DGW with favorable fixture for one of my stars to do the TC. Hopefully all will be clearer next week.

I think the two articles were well timed and gives food for thought coming into the FA Cup fixtures.

They are also great to direct people who have not already worked it out for themselves asking about the ramifications of the different scenarios.

In fairness there were a lot of questions about it so the articles were needed imo even if a bit premature.

The issue is that in the Scout Notes over the next few days, we would be visiting this stuff anyway. So that would negate the need for the articles and make it difficult for folk to find the consolidated info.

Better that we get these articles out, set up the framework, then revisit and update the thinking in the Notes.

We have a Burning Question out next week also to tie things up.

I’m leaning to Ota even with the doubt over Alonso. City has the league won practically and would imagine will step off the gas a little and probably rotate players for remaining cups games. Chelsea still fighting for top 4th place

15 Brazilian players confirmed going to the WC, by their manager.

"Alisson, Daniel Alves, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Miranda, Marcelo, Casemiro, Fernandinho (PL), Renato Augusto, Willian (PL), Paulinho, Coutinho, Neymar, Gabriel Jesus (PL) and Roberto Firmino (PL)."

Otamendi / Jones >> van Dijk
      But,

Should i reconsider him to Karius?

        I’m in this boat too.

As you saw below, I was thinking of:

        BGW31: FH
        GW32: WC
        GW33: Save FT
        DGW34: 15 DGWers (preferably fewer GW35 blankers)
        BGW35: 2FT
        GW36: prep for DGW37

Don’t think you need 15 dbgwers in gw34. 13 should be enough. The likes of Salah and Firminho could score more than dbgwers.

        FH31
        WC36
        BB37

This way you can ignore 31, avoid buying dross and plan for DG34 with 6 transfers

BGW35 has a minimum of 6 games and decent teams so you should get 11 players easily

This article looks at using the Free Hit when there are reduced fixtures but with better assets to choose from.

I prefer to use the Free Hit to avoid as many transfers as possible.

It will be harder to get a full XI in GW31 than GW35 as there are fewer fixtures. Therefore requiring more transfers in GW31.

It will be easy to field a full XI in GW35 if there are a minimum of 12 teams playing.

You would spend fewer points in run up to GW35 than GW31 in transfers too.

GW31 is a no brainier for me for FH.

      1. Backup Dancer
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 2 months ago

But your team is likely to be full of GW34 doublers that blank in 35.

These same players will then double in 37.

It's definitely a brainer, either way.

        1. Zladan
          • 6 Years
          6 years, 2 months ago

There will be DGW that do not blank in GW35.

Of course it depends on the fixtures. But as things stand, there are only 4 teams playing in GW31.

Maybe there is also a lower limit whereby there aren’t enough points to gain using a FH. Maybe a minim of 8 teams is required to justify it.

You can't have a DGW in GW37 without having a blank in GW35. The only possible exceptions to that rule are Leicester, Arsenal and City.

As for Chilwell, I must hesitate to say that he's nailed or will start against Stoke. The truth is that I'm not sure. We might be able to make a more educated guess after tonight. To be honest his points have been a little disappointing - especially his attacking returns. I will ask one of my better informed friends and get back to you. Do you have him already?
