Scout Notes – Gameweek 31 Takes Shape

There are no shocks from Saturday’s FA Cup fifth round ties as Fantasy managers can finally start planning for the disrupted Gameweeks to come with nearly all of the uncertainty removed.

Unless Rochdale pull off a huge upset in their tie at home to Spurs this afternoon, Gameweek 31’s schedule is now sorted.

Four matches will definitely take place:

Bournemouth v West Brom
Huddersfield v Crystal Palace
Stoke v Everton
Liverpool v Watford

As mentioned, Spurs vs Newcastle could conceivably join the list. We’ll know for sure after today’s 4pm kick-off.

Yesterday’s four cup ties added two fixtures to Gameweek 31.

Man United saw off Huddersfield 2-0, with a brace from Romelu Lukaku confirming the Terriers’ home match with Palace.

Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez provided the assists for a clinical United side who struggled to contain their hosts but were ruthless on the break. A controversial VAR offside decision also denied Mata a goal of his own.

Both managers picked strong sides for the match, with Jose Mourinho’s options at the back boosted by a late substitute appearance from centre-half Eric Bailly – his first action since picking up an ankle injury in Gameweek 11.

Paul Pogba missed the match with a widely-publicised illness, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial came on in the second half and David De Gea, Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia were given the day off.

United’s blank Gameweek 31, their Champions League commitments and an immediate schedule involving visits from Chelsea and Liverpool over the next three Gameweeks hardly promote investment in their assets.

But Mourinho’s teamsheet for Wednesday’s tie with Sevilla will still be of interest, particularly to those still retaining Jones and Lingard.

The second tie to add a fixture to Gameweek 31 involved West Brom and Southampton.

The Saints pulled off a 2-1 away win courtesy of goals from Wesley Hoedt and Dusan Tadic, with James Ward-Prowse and Guido Carrillo providing the assists.

A spectacular goal from Salomon Rondon, who volleyed home a long Grzegorz Krychowiak pass, proved to be no more than a consolation for the Baggies, who will now travel to Bournemouth for Gameweek 31.

Alan Pardew’s men are in a dark place and their assets not exactly attractive.

Bottom of the league, the board beset by sackings and senior players embroiled in the now-infamous Barcelona taxi incident, West Brom have kept one clean sheet in seven Gameweeks and scored just eight goals in as many matches.

That’s unfortunate for Fantasy managers, who would otherwise consider their options for the run-up to Gameweek 31, given their obliging schedule (HUD wat LEI).

If anything, this fourth Gameweek 31 fixture brings Bournemouth players onto our radars, with Callum Wilson and Junior Stanislas in good form and Fantasy favourite Charlie Daniels offering potential attacking returns, albeit in a defence that’s kept only one clean sheet since Gameweek 14

The Cherries’ short-term schedule is far less promising (NEW lei TOT), though their recent result and performance at Chelsea suggest that Howe’s men are capable of delivering a welcome surprise over this period.

Certainly, those holding Wilson will be encouraged, with the striker also likely to attract new investors leading into Gameweek 31. Similarly, Daniels will go into that Gameweek as one of the few cheap defenders offering good potential for a clean sheet and attacking points.

Elsewhere…

Yesterday’s other two ties involved a 3-1 for Brighton over Coventry in which record signing Jurgen Locadia scored a debut goal from an Anthony Knockaert cross.

Connor Goldson doubled their advantage before the on-loan Leonardo Ulloa marked his return to the Seagulls with the third. Markus Suttner and Bruno Saltor provided the assists.

The only downside was an injury to stand-in keeper Tim Krul, who was replaced at half-time after a collision with Coventry goalscorer Jonson Clarke-Harris.

Brighton’s win confirmed that their Gameweek 31 trip to Man City will now have to be rescheduled, not that Seagulls players are attracting much interest anyway.

Their run-in involves five of the top six, including three of them – Spurs and Man United at home and Liverpool away – across their last four fixtures.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City played out a drab 0-0 draw at Hillsborough.

Swans’ coach Carlos Carvalhal made six changes to the side that had beaten Burnley last weekend and was forced into another when the 3.7%-owned Alfie Mawson injured his knee in the warm-up.

Kyle Naughton replaced him, while popular striker Jordan Ayew (13.6%) came on after the break as Swansea searched in vain for a winner.

The replay will take place on Tuesday, February 27 – between a trip to Brighton and a visit from West Ham.

Regardless of that result, their Gameweek 31 fixture with Southampton will now have to be moved as the Saints will be in quarter-final action that weekend.

The Quarter-Final Draw

United’s win at Huddersfield yesterday evening was followed by the draw for the last eight in the FA Cup:

Swansea/Sheff Wed v Rochdale/Spurs
Man United v Brighton
Leicester v Chelsea
Wigan/Man City v Southampton

The winners of those ties will play in the semi-finals on the weekend of April 21, which coincides with Gameweek 35.

The league fixtures guaranteed to remain in that Gameweek are:

Arsenal v West Ham
Everton v Newcastle
Stoke v Burnley
Watford v Crystal Palace
West Brom v Liverpool

Should United lose to Brighton in the FA Cup quarter-finals, then their fixture away at Bournemouth would also remain in Gameweek 35.

Similarly, a Chelsea defeat would confirm the Blues’ home match against Huddersfield.

Other than that, the other ties require a range of permutations and results in order to survive the need for rescheduling.

With Champions League and Europa League semi-finals taking place in the midweek leading into Gameweeks 36 and 37, the postponed fixtures from Gameweek 35 look certain to take place in Gameweek 37: the midweek before the final Gameweek of the season.

Revisiting The Free Hit Chip

The debate as to whether to use the Free Hit chip in either Gameweek 31 or 35 was leaning towards the latter window and the quarter-final draw appears to back up that argument.

Gameweek 35 already involves one more match and with the potential addition of at least two extra fixtures should FA Cup results fall right.

The schedule includes Liverpool once again, plus an Arsenal side possessing a number of attractive attacking options who have a very strong home encounter against West Ham.

Free Hit managers should have enough talent on offer to take advantage of the remaining Gameweek 35 fixtures; arguably the balance between inactive and active players looks likely to be better in that respect than in Gameweek 31.

However, non-Free Hit managers could also look to exploit Arsenal.

They are set to have a double Gameweek 34 and, of course, play in Gameweek 35. So the advantage for Free Hit managers regarding Arsenal’s Gameweek 35 assets may yet be minimal.

Burnley are another team set to be given a double in Gameweek 34, who are also active in Gameweek 35.

For those now set on the Gameweek 35 Free Hit, planning for Gameweek 31’s blanks must take precedence.

There are four free transfers available – five for those who carried over from Gameweek 27 – ahead of the Gameweek 31 deadline.

Managers must now assess their existing Gameweeek 31 assets and plan additions, taking care not to be blinkered and avoid considering those players inactive in Gameweek 31, but with strong potential for points.

The sweet spot for the majority of non-Free Hit managers for Gameweek 31 could be eight players, with Mohamed Salah surely already booked in as the Gameweek captain.

Around him, the following assets are likely to be among the leading contenders for recruitment over the next four Gameweek deadlines:

Loris Karius
Jordan Pickford
Virgil van Dijk
Charlie Daniels
Mohamed Salah
Theo Walcott
Xherdan Shaqiri
Sadio Mane
Roberto Firmino
Callum Wilson
Oumar Niasse

The likes of Christopher Schindler, Ahmed Hegazi, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Junior Stanislas, Salomon Rondon, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Gerard Deulofeu make up some of the differential contingent and names that will doubtless figure in a Free Hit XI.

The question is, do the potential points from three or four of those players give an XI a major advantage over a seven or eight-man non-Free Hit line-up?

A 20-30 point swing could be achieved, but is dependent on hitting the correct differentials. Given the names on offer, that appears difficult to pull off.

Instead, those booking the Free Hit for Gameweek 31 will look to exploit their remaining transfers over Gameweeks 28-30 in the hope they can gain more advantage by acquiring profitable non-active Gameweek 31 players.

I've already got 8 lined up, and have 2 free transfers this week, so could easily target 11, but I feel I'm at the point now where I'll start doing more damage to my squad for 28-30 than I gain in 31.

couldnt agree more....i thought i was the only one thinking no point changing your high scoring current team to get a measly 20 pts more , i can see most of these players getting 2's tbh, bar maybe shaq and the pool players.

i'm leaving it at 5 who are in my current team and may just buy shaq, although if big sam parks the bus whats the point?!

    Pickford, Speroni
    Alonso*, Maguire, Mee, Naughton, 3.9
    KDB, Sterling, Salah, Shaqiri, Lingard*
    Aguero, Firmino, Quaner

I have 2 FTs and 0.6 itb here.

I'm thinking Alonso + Lingard ----> VVD + Walcott, which would leave me in good stead for GW31.

Thoughts on these moves? Any better ones you can see?

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Your perfect Gameweek 31 side

We now know that, barring an incredible result from Rochdale against Spurs today, there will be four fixtures taking place in Gameweek 31:

    Bournemouth vs West Brom
    Huddersfield Town vs Crystal Palace
    Liverpool vs Watford
    Stoke City vs Everton

Whether using a free hit chip then, or planning ahead for this blank Gameweek, I thought it would be good to gather your views on the best XI to field that week.

To help out here are those teams in order of goals scored and conceded over the last four Gameweeks.

    Goals conceded

    1. Liverpool - 3
    2. Stoke – 3
    3. Watford – 5
    4. Bournemouth – 6
    5. Everton – 8
    6. Huddersfield – 8
    7. Crystal Palace – 9
    8. West Brom - 9

On current form Liverpool and Stoke look the best bets to invest in defensively, especially as they have home matches against Watford and Everton respectively.
Investors in Everton, Huddersfield, Palace and West Brom defences may be left disappointed from now until GWK 31 and left relying on attacking returns.

Members can see more team defensive statistics here http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/12198/

    Goals scored

    1. Liverpool - 7
    2. Bournemouth – 7
    3. Everton - 7
    4. Crystal Palace – 4
    5. Stoke – 4
    6. Huddersfield - 4
    7. Watford - 4
    8. West Brom – 3

Current form indicates that investing early in Liverpool, Bournemouth and Everton attack could prove lucrative. While West Brom attack looks best avoided and Palace, Stoke, Huddersfield and Watford offer only slightly better threat.

Members can see more team attacking stats here http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/14077/

What would you ideal Gameweek 31 XI be?

For those not using a free hit chip what team are you likely to field that week, based on current players owned and whether or not you want to field a full XI?

    Feel free to give reasons.

Not using FH, team using free transfers currently looking to have 9 players and be:

      Foster
      Bauer/ VVD
Delofeu/ Salah/ Shaqiri/ Siggy or Walcott (depending on price changes)
      Firmino/ Wilson

Fairy happy with that. Could make it 10 with Daniels in defence for a -4.

Planning to use FH for 31. This would be my ideal team

      Lossl
      Coleman VVD Bauer
      Walcott Stan Shaq Salah Siggy
      Firmino Wilson

Taking a few punts in Coleman's fitness, but if he is fit, he poses a huge threat on the wings along with Walcott.
Am still not very sure with the VVD vs Mane debate, if I find a better defender, I might well go for Mane instead as I think Watford would sneak a goal in.
Not keen on a WBA / Palace player at the moment though things will change if Zaha is fit and ready for GW31

Is there an argument for not getting defenders who play against your attackers in GW31? So for example if you have Salah and Firmino would you want Janmaat against them?

Spending a transfer or worse taking a -4 vs. loading up on 9/11 players from 3/4 teams. It seems more logical to do the latter and to try and get the highest score possible in that GW.

Here’s what I’d ideally like to field …not added up but fairly certain that’s affordable.

GK - Hennessey – 17 saves in his last four…that’s joint top with Foster.

DEF – Van Dijk (goal threat and cs potential), Bauer (cs and assist potential), Dawson (goal threat, no cs potential)

MID – Salah (captain), Walcott ( top for shots on target last four for Everton) Milivojevic (penalty king), Shaqiri (long ranger).

FWD – Firmino (due to awesomness), Wilson (can’t see WBA keeping him at bay), Benteke.

      Here’s what I’ll probably field

      Hennessey
VVD, Bauer, Schindler, undecided fourth defender – maybe Janmaat
      Salah, Walcott, Shaqiri, Milivojevic
      Firmino, Wilson

A hit in a blank gameweek is potentailly just a 2pt hit if they get 2pts.

Worth taking that v minimal risk I think if a defender has potential for attacking returns.

The key for me is flexibility and not going too crazy for GWK 31.

I've already got six anyway by 'happenstance'....Of those thre are players I play week in week out anyway and the other three are benchable. The other players I'd consider getting in will be ones I'd play before GWK 31 happily too.

So I'd look to get Wilson and VVD first - as great players for next few.

Walcott also v playable ahead of GWK 31.

Already own lots of nice heavy hitters in KDB, Sterling, Salah and Firmino.

To say that a hit in a blank game-week is only worth 2 points is a gross over-simplification - a hit always costs 4 points.

It is true that a hit to field an additional player is less risky than one to replace another player, but the difference in risk is usually not exactly 2 points.

When a hit is taken to replace another player then the break-even point is for the new player to score 4 more points than the player whose place he takes in the starting eleven, but when the hit is to field an additional player then the break-even point is for the new player to score exactly 4 points.

However, there is no guarantee that the new player will even get 2 points - for example, a new defender might get a yellow card, concede 2 goals, and score zero.

So the question to be asked when considering whether a 4 point hit to field an additional player is likely to break even in that game-week ought to be "Is he expected to score at least 4 points?".

The alternative question if you are looking for a differential that might improve your ranking at the risk of worsening it is "Although he will probably score less than 4, is there a reasonable chance that he might score more?".

I'm very concerned about the opportunity cost of avoiding players like Mahrez, Arnie and Eriksen over the next 3. It is reminiscent of last season were people held and held the likes of Philips and Rondon for their 2 points in a blank gameweek.

Yeah exactly where I'm thinking currently. Planning to load up Leicester players for a hit now just for their fixtures and burn my FH on 31 if needed.

Yep, I'm taking this approach too. It means playing the game as per normal (transfers based on fixtures/form) for much longer rather than preloading with GW31 now.

I agree but as I have a squad I'm happy with I'm bringing in a couple of bench players who will play 31. Meet in the middle somewhere to speak.
I think FH on a dgw or 35 will get more points.

Don't disagree that those mid-price/premium midfielders could do nicely in the next 3 but I think the cheaper alternatives who have a game in GW31 are better than last year, especially for those who started planning early.

Shaqiri's already got me 21 points in 3 weeks so even if he gets 2 points in GW31 I won't be distraught. I had GW31 in mind when I brought in Wilson ahead of the Chelsea game.

I missed Walcott's haul but there were many who snapped him up quickly when he signed for Everton. Those who held onto Niasse have also done well. Milivojevic looks one of the standout 5th mids regardless of whether he has a game in GW31, ditto Doucoure.

I think the potential advantage for people who don't have their WC is they can be more focused on getting Eriksen, Mahrez, Arnie etc. in early.

GW31 is a poor GW IMO. Lots of rubbish teams playing (apart from Liverpool). Will go for three Liverpool (VVD, Salah(c), Firmino) and currently have Hegazi and Ibe. May add one more player to this with my FT.

GW31 is such a red herring. Think we need to be careful not to let it dictate our moves too much, there could be more points to gain from the other gameweeks. 3 Liverpool is a must though.

Totally agree, it may be the undoing of many a FPL team’s season ...
        - Teams loaded full of players you would not ordinarily want over the next few games, missing out on Arsenal, Leicester etc
        - bloated WC squads in 32/33 (BB34) with too much Team Value money wasted on the bench for GW32, 33 & 36 onwards
        - trying to cover 2 DGWs with a WC team formed six weeks before the last DGW
        - hoping for a better team in BGW35 with the FH chip when it is easy to get a good team out anyway with a bit of tinkering

Own 6 already and have 5 free transfer until there. but will not use all transfers to bring players from those teams (and i'm actually selling Depoitre this week). will try to focus on players for next weeks, and then try save the transfer in gw30, and go to gw31 with 9/10 players (including 2 hits from now until that week)

Already have mariappa Daniels Walcott Salah Shaqiri and Firmino
Dcl too but probably won't play but will keep any way as I won't have 11 . Will aim to get rid of Mbemba Elliot and possibly Alonso or hazard . To give me 9 or possibly 10 playing in 31 .
I don't see the sense in ruining my team for 31 so trying to shift the dead wood instead.

Currently have 7 players, and 5 transfers to go. So I should be able to field 9-11 players, depending on rotation and injuries. Those I already have in CAPITAL.

      PICKFORD
      HEGAZI, van Dijk, Bauer
      DEOULOUEFEOU, SHAQIRI, SALAH, IBE
      FIRMINO, Wilson

This leaves 10 players. The last spot will wait, and will consider Niasse, Walcott or a random def.

I am lurking the possibility of fielding 6/7 players and using the 4 FTs between 31 and 34 on fielding DGW players for DGW 34 with TC FH 35 and WC 36 for DGW 37 BB

Not bad, you just need to weigh up FH31 v FH35. If you FH in 31, all you really need is a couple of transfers before 35 to get a similar team anyway to those using the FH in 35.

I think many WC teams in 32 will be hit by injuries and rotation by the second game of 34 due to the fuxture congestion ... much less risk WC36 & BB37 🙂

Fielding the 7 players I currently own as an non free hit chip user and focusing my transfers on getting in double gameweekers in 34. Will probs save a transfer in 31 if i can. Very boring

    13. Twisted Saltergater
      • 14 Years

I seem to be in the minority as I don't have a WC to ship out GW31 players in GW32 and prepare for the doubles, so if anything, I'm continuing to play the fixtures as though GW31 doesn't exist - I'll then play the FHC in GW31.

In the past, it's been quite common to pre-load on players for a given week only for them to be injured, suspended or out of favour when you actually need them. The downside to this, is paying a little extra for them in GW31 but that is balanced out by only having to field 11.

So while I'm going to be buying Arsenal and Spurs players now, my FHC side may look something like:

      Pickford
      Coleman, VVD, Sakho
Salah, Zaha (if fit), Shaqiri, Walcott, Richarlison
      Firmino, Wilson

The FHC chip would also permit loading up on Firmino, Salah and Mané when perhaps you wouldn't want to use FT's getting all 3 for the weeks around GW31.

      Currently own the following:
      Pickford
      Robertson
      Shaq salah
      Wilson

Will be bringing in firmino this week, probably add Walcott and a defender to that in future weeks. Im hoping Robertson is nailed otherwise that would throw a spanner in the works

Having done Alonsod to VVD currently have VVD Fermenia Salah Walcott Doucouré Wilson Firmino. Plan to save in 29. Son->Soggy in GW30 and Adrian->Lossl and Kane->Josh King in GW31. Don't want to take hits to boost defence and too much TV in Sterling to have 5 midfielders. Will then wildcard in GW32.

Currently have 4 for week 31: Hennessey, VVD, Salah & Richarlison. Will be looking to get to 8 I think. Something along the lines of:

      29 - Aguero to Firmino
      30 - RLC to Walcott
      31 - Ogbonna & Lascelles to Schindler & Daniels

Don’t think it’s worth trying to get anyone else in.

So basically if you have all your chips left you know what to do based on current known information:

    GW31: No chip use
GW32: No chip use / Wildcard
GW33: No chip use / WIldcard
    GW34: Bench Boost
    GW35: Free Hit
    GW36: No chip use
    GW37: Triple Captain
    GW38: No chip use

If you have used your Triple Captain then you will just have to go without in GW37
If you have used your Free Hit then you will just have to go without in GW35
If you have used your Bench Boost then you will have to Wildcard in GW34
If you have used your Wildcard then you'll just have to manage your transfers to get a good side in GW34

BB in GW37 potentially has better fixtures, and you delay spreading funds across the team from GW32/33 that will then need to be undone to a certain extent with transfers leading up to 37

Is this mad or worth it?

      Alonso, Sterling, Ayew
      To
      Robertson, Mhki, Vardy

      Thanks

                  I'm looking at Mhki too

At that price I would be happy with returns in every other game, and the fixtures are great

My worry is Wenger giving up on PL to focus on EL to get to CL

My original plan before putting any thought in was to:

      Free hit gw31
      Triple cap gw 34
      Wildcard 36 and
      Bboost 37

This was based on my successful wildcard 36 and bboost 37 combo last year. That left triple cap in 34 and free hit 31. I was ignoring 35 and always anticipated using free hit in week with least games 31 as this is where it is solely most effective.

After some thought i realised that it was silly to make last years wildcard benchboost 36 and 37 success the base for this years strategy. For 1 thing we had no free hit and the clincher was realising that an earlier wildcard was crucial to maximising two big dgw. I started to settle on:

      Free hit 31
      Wildcard 33
      Bboost 34
      And tcap 37

This thinking was still centred around the wildcard bboost combo just earlier to max 2 dgw. It also meant i could maximise free hit in the week i intuitively think it works best in. 35 remained problematic.

After too much thought i realised that even though the free hit is best used in 31 the combo of dgw 34 bgw 35 and dgw 37 meant that the best time to use it was to supplement wildcard benchboost dgw strategy. Context is everything here. I can load up on city, spurs, united and chelsea on wildcard. All blank 35 but have two double gameweeks. Free hit 35 and maximise liverpool and arsenal assets without compromising my dgw strategy. So i have arrived at

      Wildcard 32
      Bboost 34
      Free hit 35
      Trip cap 37

32 wildcard is better than 33 for those holding free hit because my 31 team will suck in 32 i checked. Liverpool have a great fix in 32 but no double. So i can wildcardin 32 keep two liverpool players and transfer them out for dgw players in 34. My only concern with my current plan is i only have 4 players for 31 right now. I will end up with 9 with 1 hit which i have already planned and am happy with. I am under no illusions that free hit 31 teams have the potential to do gar greater damage than those who hold care to admit but when i way that up against the damage a well played wildcard benchboost free hit can do. There is only one way to go. I reluctantly relinquish my beloved 31 free hit strategy.

Hope this long post helps someone else who is wrestling with this

Only problem with the WC in 32 is that it may be hit by injuries and rotation by the time 34 comes around and even more so may be out of date by 37.

I recall people going early with a WC last season because they ‘new the doubles’ but it unravelled as single game week players did well and form/rotation/injuries bit in to the WC team

A late WC in 36 means you don’t carry a heavy bench for subsequent game weeks and is more forcussed for the one DGW

I think there is no wrong or right strategy and everything depends on your particular team profile now and how 31 is set up (or not) as the case may be

I think those with all their chips remaining are kidding themselves that it’s going to giving such a big advantage. It’s more hopeful than realistic than your strategy to use them all in a short space of time with yield high scores.

Just look at last year to contradict your argument. It worked massively for me last year so why would I not try it again ?

Last year I had a 180 pointer, 130 pointer and a 98 pointer in the last few weeks, with the help of a free hand of chips. Admittedly it has taken a great deal of restraint not to use them but I'm glad that i did. I know that i am not assured of the same success this year as last, re chip use but I bet all players would wish they still had them to play with such an obvious strategy for use.

I'm not necessarily agreeing with the original point, but I assume you had Kane captain in the last few weeks . . . which rather skews the figures and makes it an unfair response as a counter argument to chip use.

I think I am missing something , if there are more fixtures in GW35 why is everyone looking to use their free hit chip then and not 31??
Surely with more fixtures in GW35 it's more likely people will be able to field a decent team without using free hit and therefore would be better placed to use the free hit in GW31??

I think the general idea is you can plan for 31, assume it'll be low scoring anyway. dump all the pish players straight after.
Wc in a bunch of top players from MCI CHE UTD SPURS who have 2x doubles,
Switch them out for Liverpool/Arsenal assets GW35 with FH (theoretically should be higher scoring BGW with better teams), then run laughing to the bank with all the extra points you've picked up on all the casuals.

Hmm, kinda makes sense when I say it like that 😆

In BGW35 teams such as Man City,Utd,Chelsea and Spurs blank. These make up the core of our teams! Also a heigher ceiling for points aswell. BGW31 will be a low scoring week and won't make much difference if you use FH or not

Deploying it in gw35 allows you to maximise Dgw players for both gw34 and gw37 and have your transfers to tickle your team.

Managers go into GW35 off the back of DGW34 so their squads are unlikely to be prepared for both (unlike the lead into GW31 when there are no real distractions from GW31 recruitment).

If you're using the BB in GW34, then having a squad that can both maximise that and cope with the GW35 blanks looks difficult to achieve. It can be done, but maybe not without reducing the potential of the BB in GW34.

Obviously, if you're not BB'ing in 34, it's not the same level of issue but, even so, you'll want to lead into GW34 thinking about the doubles, not having to also worry about the GW35 blanks.

Compare this to GW31. Most managers already have 5-6 GW31 players, with 4 or even 5 transfers to spend. There's no real distraction in using those 4-5 transfers on more GW31 players, other than the risk of losing out on players inactive in GW31.

So why Free Hit in GW31 to get an advantage of two or three players - and players likely to be in teams that may not produced in GW31?

I'd probably only consider that if I had just 2-3 active GW31 players in my squad currently.

The GW35 FH is not really about the score with the FH, it's about how the FH liberates GW34 recruitment.

This seems to be the tactic most with all their chips are following. It's going to be difficult to judge points lost in preparing for GW31 vs FHC in GW13. The fixtures in GW31 really are poor.

I think I'm happier continuing to play the fixtures and using the FHC to effectively ignore GW31. Yes, this does compromise GW34 BB, but carrying 2 x FT's into GW35 shouldn't be too bad (if I'm that lucky).

                100% with you on that.

Both strategies though have similar merits depending on your team, but I have huge reservations and issues with the WC32, BB33 & FH35 strategy that have hardly been addressed on here in any of the discussions I have read ... but I think I will keep those reservations to myself rather than highlight them because the FFS herd mentality has already clicked in and gained momentum and nothing will stop it now 😉

The free hit chip doesn't look like it's gonna be as useful as first thought.
I used it in the double game week to load up on West ham and spurs players.
The problem was the players I left out did as well if not better and that was one game versus two.
That's the problem with the free hit.
Useful if you only have a couple of players playing in 31 or 35 but I don't see it as a huge dis advantage any more not having it as I've planned well to get 9 or 10 with no hits.

I reckon it's even further ahead . . . also depends on the number of DGW 37 players you're able to include without worrying about 35 blanks.

Ok I have used my 2FT. How does this look for next GW and on way to a GW31 team without using FH?

              DDG
              VVD, Alonso, Fernandez
Salah (C), Sterling (V), Hazard. Shaq
              Kane, Firmino, Ayew

              (Elliot) (Mili, Tomkins, Duffy)

Think I’m ok without taking any hits for now? Got 6 GW31 players so far

Atm will at least aim for Ayew>Niasse and Elliot>Fabianski over the next couple of weeks to give me 8 BGW players

            10. And nothing else Mata'…

              Pick one set of attackers:

              A) Niasse Kane Kun
              B) Vardy Firmino Kun
              C) Vardy Firmino Kane

              thnx

Vardy/Niasse, Firmino, Kane/Aguero - subject to your view on gw31, Niasse minutes, Aguero form.

Is Mahrez too much of a risky pick or do you reckon he's certain to start against Stoke?

Doubt leicester can afford not to play him.

No. He'll start. He started at Sheffield! Looking at getting him in with those superb fixtures and his form. Also a good differential

He was right back at his best against Sheffield United. I see no reason for him to not start every game until the end of the season.

With the FA Cup Semi-Finals scheduled for GW35 and if things go as planned we could have Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United & Tottenham playing a major semi final a few days after a DGW fixture which could mean heavy rotation

I see this as a major cloud hanging over GW34

That's a really good point. Strengthens the argument for me (without the free hit) to pick a more balanced wildcard team that's lighter on these teams for the sake of their 35 blanks.

Is the injury to Kane serious? (Sorry to join this party late...)

I assume we will know the DGW fixtures for GW33 before the start of GW 29 ??
