An unceremonious defeat at the hands of League One Wigan may have scuppered Pep Guardiola’s quest for a legendary quartet of titles but Manchester City’s Premier League form has been as strong as ever.

After sweeping five goals past Leicester in their final fixture before the FA Cup break, City have now found the net an impressive 79 times this season – a full 18 clear of their nearest rival, Liverpool.

With five attackers – Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane, David Silva and Sergio Aguero – all past the 100-point threshold in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), City have clearly proven themselves to represent our most reliable source of regular Fantasy points.

As 19,000 delirious Wigan fans discovered on Monday night, however, there is a marked difference between City’s form at home and on their travels.

In this latest Technical Area article for members, we will put this under scrutiny, with particular reference to the merits of keeping faith in Man City’s attacking assets.

Kante had Messi in that back pocket all game, with the exception of the defensive error leading to the goal.

    The memes were queuing up.

Chelsea looked comfortable but you can’t make basic mistakes like Christensen did.

Still fancy Chelsea to qualify. The Nou Camp holds nothing to fear these days

Barca dominated the ball. Conte was happy to have 10 players behind the ball in the home leg. Away at the Nou Camp on that huge pitch there’s only one winner imo. Just my opinion though don’t take it personally

Poor all season in not losing a single game? Granted they are in a tiny bit of a slide not having beaten the last few teams by the typical 4-0 lines, with the Eibar 0-0 draw at home a couple of weeks ago, but I think they have been quite strong. Coutinho and Dembele are going to make them even better down the stretch, too.

Let’s be honest, Barca did not look like scoring at all apart from that mistake by Chelsea where they cashed in.

I honestly don’t think there’s anything to fear about them now. A few years ago they were incredible

I cannot comment on this game, as I am at work, and could not watch. I have watched many of their games this season though, and they are strong defensively, and have been pretty consistent. Suarez has been very hot of late, and Messi has been very steady all season long. Semedo and Alba have been excellent at full back, and Pique and Umtiti have anchored the defense. Vermaelen has even played well in recent weeks. Now they have depth after the long absence of Dembele due to injury and the signing of Coutinho. This team is 7 points ahead of Atletico Madrid, and I do not subscribe to the views that La Liga lacks competition.

Oh, and in midfield, Rakitic is perfect for this team with his vision and long range shooting ability, and Iniesta has been surprisingly durable. Paulinho adds a lot of grit and has scored a good number of goals. I don't think this is the team that had Neymar, Suarez and Messi mauling everyone 7-1, yet they have so far done exceptionally well.

I’ve seen the majority of Barca’s games this season and I’ve not ever really been impressed.

Real have fallen apart this year which has helped them cruise to the advantage they have.

Barring themselves, Real and Atletico, the league has declined and is very weak

Yeah true but I am specifically talking about this Barca team and how unimpressive they’ve been.

They haven’t had to be really good to get to the top of La Liga this season, Real have taken the pressure off by being awful.

Real have dominated recently in the CL, not Barca.

They have massively declined over last few seasons.

Chelsea can beat them at the Nou Camp, no doubt.

It’s not as intimidating these days.

Barca’s more structured approach and their new set-up isn’t something that Chelsea should fear at all

Plenty, I follow La Liga a lot. They haven't been the free scoring side of previous years, but they're very settled in their solid 4-4-2 shape and have gone unbeaten all season thus far for a reason.

People in here clearly don´t know anything about spanish teams... Let´s see tomorrow when number 5 in la liga (Sevilla) plays against number 2 in premier league (United) I think it´s gonna be a pretty close match...
If we look past the top 3 teams in la liga (barca, real, and atletico) where you could argue that those 3 teams clearly would be in top 4 in premier league as well.. But teams like Valencia, Sevilla, Villereal, Bilbao and Sociadad would all be top 10 teams in premier league, and could all also play for a top 6 place

Why does the ticker and FPL site and the BBC say Spurs have a match in GW31, but articles about GW31 say they have a blank.

Better midfield options about, even those that don't play in GW31 than Mane, for me.

VVD arguably the best defender to have over the next month or so.

          £4m price difference too.

A: probably VVD since he belongs to the only defence we could rely on (I know it's still Liverpool's clumsy defence, but still better than the remaining defences available that gameweek). Though if Mane smashes it in the next matches, it may be a reason to get him instead.
B: Both have attacking threat, hard fixtures, but Alonso has free kicks too, which makes Otamendi the one to sell.

If you have Salah and Firmino, get Eriksen.

I think it's better to split the risk, so the best combo seems to be Salah Firmino and Kane Eriksen.

    Re-post to get more views.

I am thinking to use the Free Hit chip in BGW31. Can you guys check my assertions below ?

    1) Full team in BGW31
Currently I have only 3 BGW31 players. With 2FT and 3 future FTs, I can field 8 players. In contrast, FH-ing will give me 11 players (plus subs in case of no shows). A minimum value from doing this is maybe 6 points (assuming the 3 extra players get only the basic 2 points)

    2) Better team in BGW31
FH in GW31 will free up space in the team by removing 'season keepers' like Kane, Sterling, Alonso etc. Due to the flexibility that FH chip gives, you might consider differential players specifically for that one week, such as getting combo of Salah-Firmino-Mane or Siggy-Walcott-Coleman or even Defoe if he is back.

    3) Players with fixtures for GW28-30
Players from ARS (MCI bha WAT), LEI (STK BOU wha) and TOT (cry HUD bou) might potentially score more points compared to the likes of Walcott, Deulofeu, Shaqiri etc. Even from defensive point of view, BUR (SOT EVE whu) will probably outscore cheap defenders from HUD, WAT or STK

While the value of FH-ing in BGW31 is hard to quantify, I wouldnt be surprised if the combination of the 3 things above is worth at least 30 pts incrementally. However, this gain could be offset by having less flexibility or the need to make extra transfers in BGW35.

    Any views ?

I wouldn't free hit gw 31. Feel gradually getting a reasonable no. for that week will be sufficient, and those signings should do solidly with no rotation. The like of Arsenal and bigger clubs could be heavily rotated, which would excaserbate the risk. I may free hit gw38.
